This episode, Erik interviews long-time runner Mike and brand-new runner David about runDisney events. They walk through the origins of these relatively recent events in order to determine why somebody would wake up at 3am to run through a Disney park.
We conclude this episode with some interviews before and immediately after the Hakuna Matata 10-Miler 2024. There's more to come folks! Start out with this episode to learn about runDisney events and return next episode to hear how Mike, David, and Erik did on their respective races.

[00:00:46] Welcome to The Supreme Resort, Land V World,
[00:00:48] a podcast about Disneyland and Walt Disney World,
[00:00:51] and which is The Supreme Resort?
[00:00:56] Each episode we will discuss and explore each resort ride by ride,
[00:01:00] land by land, park by park, racecation by racecation,
[00:01:03] to determine which is better.
[00:01:06] I am your host Eric,
[00:01:07] and thank you for joining me on this quest
[00:01:09] to help the greater good of humanity
[00:01:11] answer this long elusive question.
[00:01:13] Who did it better Disneyland or Walt Disney World?
[00:01:17] That's not normally the way we put that.
[00:01:19] I don't know why I wrote it that way.
[00:01:20] But hey, joining me as always is Dan and Jimmy,
[00:01:27] who are not here.
[00:01:28] Instead I have with me two esteemed guests,
[00:01:31] first up frequent run Disney,
[00:01:33] our main sponsor of this very show,
[00:01:35] the founder of Concey Ears.
[00:01:39] Who knew that was a tongue twister?
[00:01:41] Mike Renfrow.
[00:01:43] Thank you, glad to be here Eric.
[00:01:44] Excellent.
[00:01:45] Thank you so much for being here with us.
[00:01:47] Next up, friend of the show, producer of the show,
[00:01:50] the person who sent us our very first email
[00:01:53] when we were a little baby podcast, David Sallie.
[00:01:56] Hey David.
[00:01:57] You also forgot to mention original Boys and Barry boys.
[00:01:59] Always.
[00:02:00] One of the original Boys and boys, that's right.
[00:02:03] Thank you.
[00:02:04] Thank you for joining us on this quest listeners.
[00:02:07] Before we get going, Mike,
[00:02:09] why don't you tell us a little bit about
[00:02:11] what's going on with Concey Ears these days?
[00:02:13] Yeah, thank you.
[00:02:14] We've got a lot of exciting things happening.
[00:02:16] We're going to be up at the Pacific Northwest mouse meet
[00:02:20] here in, I think that's going to be in July, late July.
[00:02:24] You can definitely check them out.
[00:02:25] They've got some really neat different guests
[00:02:29] and things like that.
[00:02:30] But our team will be up there.
[00:02:31] Our president, Lindsay Wells, will be there.
[00:02:33] So definitely come on down, check that out,
[00:02:34] and stop by and meet some of our teams.
[00:02:37] That's cool.
[00:02:38] I've heard a lot about that.
[00:02:40] I've had conversations with other folks about it.
[00:02:42] I know a friend of the show, Teg,
[00:02:44] has talked about being up there.
[00:02:46] I'm not sure if he's going.
[00:02:47] I should probably check with him.
[00:02:48] But yeah, it sounds like a good time.
[00:02:50] It sounds like kind of a big one too.
[00:02:52] Yeah, I just mentioned who was going to be there.
[00:02:54] Bogger, you said.
[00:02:55] Bogger, yeah, that's right.
[00:02:56] And then you mentioned a couple other names
[00:02:58] that I can't remember because Bogger.
[00:02:59] It was like three minutes ago and my, it's gone now.
[00:03:02] Yes.
[00:03:02] Okay.
[00:03:03] That's all right.
[00:03:04] David, how is puny pod going?
[00:03:08] Thank you.
[00:03:09] Puny pod is our Marvel fandom podcast that Ryan and I do,
[00:03:13] where we go back in excruciating detail,
[00:03:16] review Marvel movies, Marvel news,
[00:03:19] and just general nerd stuff.
[00:03:22] So it's going well.
[00:03:23] We just watched Doctor Strange
[00:03:25] and we will be reviewing Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
[00:03:28] All right.
[00:03:29] Not also Guardians of the Galaxy 2
[00:03:31] because you already did Guardians of the Galaxy 1.
[00:03:33] But we're doing volume two,
[00:03:35] which you said was your favorite.
[00:03:38] I don't know about, there's, there are a lot of themes
[00:03:40] I really, really like in it.
[00:03:43] It's the family theme.
[00:03:44] Well, you'll get into it on your show.
[00:03:46] Sorry to take it a different direction.
[00:03:51] I know you don't like it
[00:03:53] because you've already talked about it on other episodes.
[00:03:55] I'm actually enjoying it better on rewatch.
[00:03:57] Okay, good.
[00:03:58] I like that.
[00:03:59] It is one of my favorites.
[00:04:01] I watch it as much as one.
[00:04:04] Three is hard.
[00:04:06] Hard to watch.
[00:04:07] Three is, you just got to skip parts of it.
[00:04:10] Yeah.
[00:04:10] It's the back half fantastic.
[00:04:13] Oh, there's such great stuff in it.
[00:04:14] Yeah, for sure.
[00:04:15] But yeah, I really like listening to the episodes
[00:04:18] where you do get into,
[00:04:21] our listeners like excruciating detail obviously
[00:04:24] because they're still listening to us.
[00:04:27] If they're not listening to your show,
[00:04:29] they definitely should
[00:04:30] because every time I listen to one of your episodes,
[00:04:32] there's something I learn
[00:04:34] whether it's from your like pre-production stuff,
[00:04:37] all of your facts about how the movie was made.
[00:04:40] I really don't know a lot about that.
[00:04:42] But even Easter eggs throughout,
[00:04:43] like you and Ryan find these weird things
[00:04:45] where I'm like, I got to watch it again.
[00:04:46] So I was watching it after the episode rather than before.
[00:04:50] Interesting.
[00:04:51] That's an interesting approach.
[00:04:52] Yeah, no, it's intended.
[00:04:53] We watched the movies in chronological order.
[00:04:55] We try not to, you know,
[00:04:56] give any big spoilers towards future movies.
[00:04:59] But like, you know,
[00:05:00] there's so much that's interwoven.
[00:05:01] It's kind of fun to kind of like touch upon those
[00:05:03] and then see those payoff in future movies.
[00:05:05] Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:06] And that's kind of fun.
[00:05:07] I do like that you keep it quote,
[00:05:09] spoiler free for people who haven't watched these movies yet.
[00:05:13] But there must be somebody, right?
[00:05:15] It's, yeah, I can understand.
[00:05:17] It's hard to think that like somebody's not watched,
[00:05:20] you know, Iron Man one and it's like,
[00:05:22] you know what, I'm going to pick this up 2024 bet
[00:05:25] and then we'll just kind of run from there.
[00:05:28] They're like, whoa, did you realize that
[00:05:29] after a certain point,
[00:05:30] these weren't produced by Paramount?
[00:05:32] Wait, wait, these are all on Disney Plus.
[00:05:35] I had no idea.
[00:05:38] Yeah, the algorithm algorithm just finally picked one up for him.
[00:05:41] Yeah, that's great.
[00:05:42] Well, that's that's enough of that.
[00:05:45] Thanks again for joining me both of you.
[00:05:48] Thanks to all of our sweet listeners out there
[00:05:50] and listener land this week.
[00:05:52] We're going to delve into one of the things
[00:05:54] that made me the international sensation I am today run Disney.
[00:05:59] There's a lot of history here.
[00:06:01] They're laughing at me listeners.
[00:06:03] I thought it almost sound like said run Disney and I was like,
[00:06:05] wait, we're not talking about the race is Disney?
[00:06:08] Oh, you thought we were talking about run Disney now.
[00:06:10] I am completely unprepared.
[00:06:12] And his last name is Miller, Ron Miller.
[00:06:19] Sorry.
[00:06:20] That's a different episode that we were probably going to do soon.
[00:06:24] Ron Miller versus Saul Steinberg and Greenmail.
[00:06:30] So, but not today.
[00:06:31] No, thank you.
[00:06:32] Thank you for bringing up for teasing that for our listeners.
[00:06:37] Run Disney.
[00:06:39] Thank you.
[00:06:40] There's a lot of history to run Disney.
[00:06:42] It's been going on for a long time.
[00:06:43] So I want to get into that.
[00:06:45] You all know I love boring lists.
[00:06:47] So there's an opportunity for us to list boring things in
[00:06:51] fantastic fashion.
[00:06:53] And there's also an opportunity to get into a subculture that
[00:06:57] a lot of Disney fans, even the most ardent Disney adults don't
[00:07:01] really know about or engage with.
[00:07:03] And then conversely, there are people that are not Disney
[00:07:06] people that are huge run Disney fans.
[00:07:09] So I really want to get into that.
[00:07:12] We're going to get back to our regularly scheduled programming
[00:07:14] in a week or two, but I wanted to take advantage of my friends
[00:07:19] who are supposed to be going to sleep before a running event.
[00:07:22] We're all supposed to be sleeping soon.
[00:07:24] But of course, that means it's a great opportunity to podcast
[00:07:27] and talk about run Disney events before the race.
[00:07:31] But then we're going to talk about it after the race tomorrow.
[00:07:34] Get some opinions there.
[00:07:36] And because of course this is what we do.
[00:07:39] I'll talk about some of the contrasts with these races on
[00:07:45] the East Coast versus the West Coast.
[00:07:48] We don't, neither of you have run a Disneyland race before.
[00:07:52] Is that correct?
[00:07:53] Nope.
[00:07:54] Correct.
[00:07:55] Okay.
[00:07:56] Well, I know Mike has run a bunch of run Disney races here on
[00:07:58] the East Coast because I've run them with him.
[00:08:00] But David, what's your experience here?
[00:08:02] I've watched a lot of videos of people running run Disney
[00:08:05] events, but I've not run one yet.
[00:08:07] Okay.
[00:08:08] Running my first one tomorrow.
[00:08:10] Are you looking forward to it?
[00:08:12] I am looking forward to it actually.
[00:08:14] I was a little bit, not knowing what it was going to be like.
[00:08:17] Never having been to this park before.
[00:08:20] There's just a lot of curiosity, a lot of feeling a little
[00:08:25] just out of the loop.
[00:08:26] Does that sort of make sense?
[00:08:28] The information that they've sent has been pretty good,
[00:08:31] but not having run one.
[00:08:33] I have no idea what to expect.
[00:08:35] Well, I mean we did walk past the bib area today
[00:08:38] and we've done this before.
[00:08:40] It's not always the best information from Disney.
[00:08:42] What's your experience in running races in general, David?
[00:08:45] Good question.
[00:08:46] That's a great question.
[00:08:48] I haven't done a lot of road races.
[00:08:51] So I've done a number of tough mutters.
[00:08:54] During the pandemic we would do a lot of trail runs.
[00:08:58] So I feel pretty comfortable playing rugby.
[00:09:00] So I think it'll have some minimal cardiovascular fitness.
[00:09:04] We'll see.
[00:09:05] Minimal.
[00:09:06] I have what is hopefully an acceptable level of cardio,
[00:09:10] but you two have assured me that it will go well.
[00:09:15] Hey, if we can finish, you can finish.
[00:09:18] Good to know.
[00:09:19] I'm just envisioning like it's like the Olympics
[00:09:22] and that people are just sprinting.
[00:09:25] Dressed as like Mickey Mouse or Stormtroopers
[00:09:29] or whatever, but I'm not sure.
[00:09:31] Dressed is like Mickey Mouse or Stormtroopers or whatever,
[00:09:35] but they're doing like a 4th 30 mile pace.
[00:09:37] That's what I envisioned.
[00:09:39] That was my fear.
[00:09:40] There are some people that are very competitive in the races
[00:09:42] and we can get into that.
[00:09:44] That's one of those aspects that for the serious runners,
[00:09:47] this is a qualifying race for other events.
[00:09:50] So yeah, there's going to be a winner of this race
[00:09:54] and that's a big deal every single race,
[00:09:57] who the winner is and what their story is
[00:09:59] and that kind of that'll get that out there in the running news.
[00:10:03] But for most people, this is a very accessible race
[00:10:07] and that's what a lot of people find so compelling about it.
[00:10:12] It's there's a 16, we'll get into this a little bit later,
[00:10:15] but it's a 16 minute mile pace
[00:10:18] and for a lot of people,
[00:10:20] you can walk briskly and get through this race
[00:10:23] and a lot of people do.
[00:10:24] A lot of people don't run at all.
[00:10:26] It's just part of the event.
[00:10:28] It's part of being able to go through the parks.
[00:10:30] It's casual.
[00:10:32] It doesn't have to be this massive competition,
[00:10:34] but you can get competitive if you want.
[00:10:36] You're staring at me the whole time just like,
[00:10:38] hey, it's okay, David, you're going to get in.
[00:10:42] It's probably going to take you three hours,
[00:10:44] but he'll be fine.
[00:10:46] You'll get lots of photos.
[00:10:47] How are you going to feel when we don't finish?
[00:10:49] And he's like, oh, people don't even show up and...
[00:10:52] Mike's been threatening to take an Uber home halfway through.
[00:10:55] That's right.
[00:10:56] I think you instead should be the person
[00:10:58] who takes the Uber halfway through and wins the marathon
[00:11:00] and like, wow, he wrapped you up the 10 mile,
[00:11:03] like 34 minutes.
[00:11:05] That's pretty fast.
[00:11:07] He's got a fake mustache on.
[00:11:09] That's right.
[00:11:10] I was pretty sure they check your times part ways through
[00:11:13] about every two, three miles.
[00:11:15] Well, then you kind of have to make a lot of stops
[00:11:17] on that Uber.
[00:11:18] He's running out of the woods,
[00:11:19] running around a corner and then leaving again
[00:11:21] back into the woods.
[00:11:24] It's Florida.
[00:11:25] There's a lot of dense undergrowth here.
[00:11:27] People do run off into the woods during these races,
[00:11:30] but you know...
[00:11:32] Let's not talk about the sordid aspects here.
[00:11:38] Anyway, let's get rolling.
[00:11:41] The history of the Run Disney races,
[00:11:45] these have not been going on for a very long time
[00:11:48] overall.
[00:11:50] The very first race that Disney technically put on
[00:11:53] was the Walt Disney World Marathon,
[00:11:55] which was in January of 1994,
[00:11:58] which was just over 30 years ago.
[00:12:04] In that inaugural race,
[00:12:06] 5,500 runners took part.
[00:12:09] It has grown somewhat since then
[00:12:11] to tens of thousands every year.
[00:12:15] That was it.
[00:12:16] Just that first year, one race.
[00:12:18] They kind of did a throwback theming to it this year
[00:12:21] because this would have been the 30 year in January.
[00:12:24] I guess last year was the 30th race.
[00:12:26] This year is the 31st,
[00:12:28] but they did a lot of throwback last year.
[00:12:30] It was a very big deal.
[00:12:32] And I might as well skip ahead
[00:12:34] because it's a really interesting thing
[00:12:36] that I found while looking through this.
[00:12:39] Last year,
[00:12:42] there was a news story that pointed out that...
[00:12:46] Of course, I'm not looking through my notes properly.
[00:12:49] So let me jot down 12, 37.
[00:12:51] While you're doing that...
[00:12:53] Go ahead.
[00:12:54] Did they run it during...
[00:12:56] Has it been run 30 years nonstop
[00:12:58] or 31 years nonstop?
[00:13:00] Did they take a break during the pandemic?
[00:13:02] Technically, it has been 30 years nonstop
[00:13:05] because during the pandemic,
[00:13:07] the last race that they did was in February.
[00:13:10] Yeah, we were at that race.
[00:13:12] We did that race.
[00:13:13] And then everything shut down like weeks later.
[00:13:16] Oh, wow.
[00:13:17] Right.
[00:13:18] Actually, no, now that I think...
[00:13:20] Well, now I'm questioning myself
[00:13:22] because they came back on in 2021.
[00:13:25] Now I'm looking at different parts of my notes.
[00:13:27] Let's see.
[00:13:28] November 2021,
[00:13:29] why Nadein returns to in-person racing?
[00:13:31] You're right.
[00:13:32] This year was the 30th.
[00:13:33] Okay.
[00:13:34] I was looking...
[00:13:35] I've got the date cell wrong in my head.
[00:13:37] You look at me when you say you're right.
[00:13:39] You were looking at David.
[00:13:41] Yeah, yeah, whatever.
[00:13:43] Anyway...
[00:13:44] I'm doing the research next time.
[00:13:45] Here's a note.
[00:13:46] This is just shoddy.
[00:13:51] 80-year-old man,
[00:13:52] an 80-year-old named Rudy Smith
[00:13:55] completed his 30th marathon in a row.
[00:13:58] He is one of 59 people
[00:14:01] that have run every single race
[00:14:03] since the inaugural race.
[00:14:05] There were 12,690 finishers of the marathon.
[00:14:08] This is something that's very real
[00:14:10] about a lot of races.
[00:14:12] There's a streak.
[00:14:13] They're legacy runners
[00:14:14] that really like to add up.
[00:14:16] That's why it was kind of a big deal
[00:14:18] when the Star Wars races got canceled
[00:14:20] because some people were really gunning for,
[00:14:22] I'm going to get five years.
[00:14:24] I'm going to get my legacy,
[00:14:25] and they stopped doing them.
[00:14:27] They never came back.
[00:14:28] That 12,000 number you just said
[00:14:30] that was finished this past year?
[00:14:32] Was that this past year's number?
[00:14:33] Correct.
[00:14:34] Yeah, finished the marathon this past year.
[00:14:36] Well, yeah.
[00:14:37] So that was the first year, 1994, 1995.
[00:14:41] They added the Disneyland 5K
[00:14:45] and a Disneyland half marathon.
[00:14:49] No, sorry, Disneyland marathon.
[00:14:51] That was a 5K through Disneyland,
[00:14:54] and the marathon looped around Angel Stadium,
[00:14:56] kind of like the races do these days.
[00:14:59] This kind of continued for a few years.
[00:15:02] In 1998,
[00:15:03] the Walt Disney World half marathon was added in.
[00:15:06] So now we've got a marathon
[00:15:07] and a half marathon in the same weekend.
[00:15:09] That was named the Donald Half.
[00:15:11] And then in 1999, they added a 10K.
[00:15:15] So that's kind of this,
[00:15:16] the way these weekends have developed.
[00:15:18] That's what we have a lot of right now
[00:15:20] is multiple races in the same weekend.
[00:15:23] And that adds up to big time medals for everybody
[00:15:26] when you do the challenges.
[00:15:27] You get a bunch of races together,
[00:15:29] it kind of compounds,
[00:15:30] and a lot of people like to do multiple races
[00:15:32] in the same weekend.
[00:15:33] Why?
[00:15:34] I don't know.
[00:15:35] I've done it many times.
[00:15:36] Metal junkies.
[00:15:37] Right.
[00:15:38] Metal junkies, T-shirt junkies.
[00:15:41] David, you got...
[00:15:42] Do they...
[00:15:43] Are the...
[00:15:44] And forgive what will be one of many dumb questions,
[00:15:47] but are they...
[00:15:49] Are the races usually at the same period of time?
[00:15:53] Do they follow a certain time,
[00:15:55] the calendar or is it just sort of like...
[00:15:57] It's usually around the same time per year.
[00:16:00] The way Disney has set it up is...
[00:16:03] Is to have them during down times.
[00:16:06] That's part of the reason why you see more in Walt Disney World.
[00:16:08] There's more capacity, there's more space,
[00:16:10] there are more hotel rooms,
[00:16:12] but there's also more lulls during the year.
[00:16:17] So that's why you see races in January, February, April, September.
[00:16:23] These are times where they can really kind of
[00:16:26] boost attendance and it brings in a lot of money
[00:16:28] for the resort and for the area.
[00:16:31] The Disneyland races are usually in January,
[00:16:36] like late January.
[00:16:38] There's one in September.
[00:16:41] And let's see when is the...
[00:16:42] When was the Star Wars one?
[00:16:43] Was that also around April, May?
[00:16:46] I never ran that one at Disneyland.
[00:16:48] So I'm not sure.
[00:16:50] I've got notes on that later on,
[00:16:52] but I think it was around that area too.
[00:16:54] But yeah, huge revenue boosts
[00:16:56] at times when things are down.
[00:16:59] We all kind of know that Disneyland doesn't have
[00:17:01] down times really anymore.
[00:17:03] Very true.
[00:17:04] Yeah.
[00:17:05] Well, we can get on with that.
[00:17:07] I've got some notes on that later
[00:17:08] and on the financial impact to the area.
[00:17:13] Let's see.
[00:17:14] So we've got 1999.
[00:17:16] For a while these weekends kind of continued.
[00:17:19] Then in 2010,
[00:17:20] the first wine and dine half marathon
[00:17:22] was added in Walt Disney World as part of the Food & Wine Festival,
[00:17:26] which happens to be a very popular time of year.
[00:17:30] But hey, let's add a race to it as well,
[00:17:32] which is now a very popular race.
[00:17:34] Right.
[00:17:35] Absolutely.
[00:17:36] What year did you say that was again?
[00:17:37] 2010.
[00:17:38] 2010.
[00:17:39] Wow.
[00:17:40] You think it's the most popular run
[00:17:42] besides the marathon weekend?
[00:17:44] Probably.
[00:17:45] I mean, the marathon...
[00:17:46] I mean, at least with the marathon weekend,
[00:17:48] not as many people go for the marathon.
[00:17:50] Right.
[00:17:51] But I mean, wine and dine fills up instantly.
[00:17:54] I was going to say,
[00:17:55] judging by how hard it is to register.
[00:17:57] Yeah.
[00:17:58] And the Disneyland races are kind of having that popularity right now as well
[00:18:01] because they're back for the first time in a while.
[00:18:04] Let's see.
[00:18:06] 2014, the Walt Disney World Marathon added the 10K and Dopey Challenge
[00:18:14] for 5K and Dopey Challenge for running all four races,
[00:18:19] 510, half and full marathon.
[00:18:23] That's just insane.
[00:18:24] Four days in a row running.
[00:18:26] It starts with the easy one.
[00:18:28] You show up at 3 a.m.
[00:18:29] You run three miles and you're done.
[00:18:31] Ending with a marathon.
[00:18:33] That's why they call it the Dopey Challenge, folks.
[00:18:36] And you see those people like walking around
[00:18:39] with that medal with such pride in the parks afterwards?
[00:18:41] Oh, gosh, they earned it.
[00:18:43] Yeah.
[00:18:44] It's great because they usually wear all of their medals.
[00:18:46] So they've got four medals, one for each race,
[00:18:48] and then the Dopey on top.
[00:18:50] And their poor necks are breaking as they walk around the park dragging
[00:18:53] them behind them in a wagon.
[00:18:56] Let's see.
[00:18:57] Disneyland Paris, half marathon, had its first year in 2016.
[00:19:03] And then in 2018, Disneyland kind of changed the way things were going.
[00:19:09] They claim this is where there's a little bit of controversy.
[00:19:12] We've mentioned that the races stopped for a while.
[00:19:14] It was actually before, this was well before COVID times,
[00:19:18] which obviously stopped things for quite some time.
[00:19:21] But in 2018 Disneyland abruptly ended its races due to,
[00:19:27] they stated due to construction for Galaxy's Edge.
[00:19:30] Right.
[00:19:31] That's what I thought.
[00:19:32] Yeah.
[00:19:33] And that was what they put out there.
[00:19:35] The OC Register talked to George Savas,
[00:19:38] a spokesperson from Disney on October 18th, 2017,
[00:19:42] who said he was sad to cancel the event,
[00:19:44] but renovations at the park are important.
[00:19:46] We're improving the park for future guests.
[00:19:48] There are plenty of other races around the world at this point.
[00:19:53] And it didn't quite sit well with people.
[00:19:58] It was canceled at a time where people had signed up
[00:20:02] for the light side Star Wars race.
[00:20:04] At this point, the Star Wars races were dark side on the
[00:20:07] east coast that might be telling for some people,
[00:20:09] and light side in Anaheim.
[00:20:12] As a result, they kind of condensed everything down to the dark,
[00:20:16] the dark side race became the rival run in Walt Disney World.
[00:20:20] So they kind of pitted light side against dark side.
[00:20:23] And that was around when I started talking about this,
[00:20:26] all this stuff with you, Mike.
[00:20:27] Yeah.
[00:20:28] That's, I remember that because the big thing in the Star Wars
[00:20:33] weekend is the, the, what's the medal at the coast
[00:20:36] to coast medal is called the, the Kessel Run.
[00:20:39] Right.
[00:20:40] Yeah.
[00:20:41] It was a Kessel Run medal.
[00:20:42] Yeah.
[00:20:43] And so the first time I really got to the point where I was
[00:20:45] going to try to do this, they had just canceled the light
[00:20:47] side run.
[00:20:48] They substituted a virtual run that year.
[00:20:51] So we were able to complete the Kessel Run,
[00:20:54] but it was really unfortunate.
[00:20:56] Yeah.
[00:20:57] It kind of broke that for the people who were working
[00:20:59] on a coast to coast.
[00:21:00] So that's something that was a very specific coast to
[00:21:02] coast at the time.
[00:21:03] They also offered coast to coast medals if you did two,
[00:21:06] one half marathon on either coast east or west in the same
[00:21:10] calendar year.
[00:21:11] Right.
[00:21:12] So I had gotten one of those.
[00:21:13] That was a big deal.
[00:21:14] That was when I first went to Disneyland was to get one
[00:21:16] of those medals.
[00:21:17] And the first time going to Disneyland was the first
[00:21:21] time I talked to Mike at Concey years.
[00:21:23] There you go.
[00:21:24] But, but yeah, it still didn't sit right for people
[00:21:27] because it was, it was canceled so abruptly
[00:21:29] and they, they refunded people.
[00:21:30] They allowed people to do a virtual if they wanted.
[00:21:32] They allowed people to sign up for a different run.
[00:21:35] So there was a lot of controversy.
[00:21:37] There was a lot of discussion and what kind of came
[00:21:40] out?
[00:21:41] Do either of you remember that?
[00:21:45] I was going to say, you seem like you're building up
[00:21:47] to, they said here.
[00:21:48] Okay.
[00:21:49] I'm here for the big reveal here.
[00:21:51] Do either of you remember the Eastern Gateway
[00:21:54] project at in Anaheim?
[00:21:57] Yeah.
[00:21:58] I don't remember details about it, but I know the
[00:22:01] point was that they Disney Disneyland had proposed
[00:22:06] putting in a new parking lot on the East side of
[00:22:09] the property.
[00:22:10] It was going to go over.
[00:22:11] That's Harbor, right?
[00:22:12] I'm looking at David because he knows I'm suddenly
[00:22:15] blanking which I'm thinking is that Harbor or
[00:22:18] Catella.
[00:22:19] I don't know.
[00:22:20] Catella is East West.
[00:22:21] I don't know the roads as well as Harbors on
[00:22:23] the East side of that's Harbor.
[00:22:24] Okay.
[00:22:25] Yeah.
[00:22:26] I have Harbor in my notes.
[00:22:27] I'm suddenly doubting myself.
[00:22:28] But yeah, so there was supposed to be a bridge
[00:22:30] to Harbor to a parking structure.
[00:22:33] So they were going to add a new parking structure on
[00:22:35] the other side of property from where the current
[00:22:37] parking structures are, the Mickey and Friends
[00:22:39] and Pixar Pals.
[00:22:40] And they were going to build a fourth hotel where
[00:22:43] the AMC was at the time, Earl of Sandwich, AMC,
[00:22:47] the second Starbucks, all of that was going to
[00:22:49] get torn down to build a new prestige.
[00:22:52] Right.
[00:22:53] Four Diamond Hotel.
[00:22:54] Yeah.
[00:22:55] That's right.
[00:22:56] And the city of Anaheim wasn't having it
[00:22:59] because the business owners on Harbor said,
[00:23:02] well, if you build a bridge over our street,
[00:23:04] nobody's going to come to us anymore.
[00:23:06] I remember this now.
[00:23:07] So there was a lot of anti-Disney sentiment on
[00:23:09] the board.
[00:23:10] There was a lot of anti-Disney sentiment in
[00:23:12] the area from business owners.
[00:23:14] So the kind of conspiracies that were being
[00:23:19] discussed, Theme Park Insider kind of kicked
[00:23:22] this off and then there was a lot of
[00:23:24] discussion on other sites, other boards,
[00:23:26] and the idea was that Disney was going to start
[00:23:28] putting pressure on the city of Anaheim by
[00:23:33] saying, I mean, we don't have to do these
[00:23:36] runs anymore.
[00:23:37] We've got an excuse.
[00:23:38] Here's the excuse.
[00:23:39] Now, the way that Theme Park Insider looked
[00:23:42] at it was saying that the root around
[00:23:47] Disneyland during those races rarely went
[00:23:50] to that area where we have Galaxy's Edge
[00:23:53] now or the construction was happening.
[00:23:55] It didn't generally go along that part of the route.
[00:23:59] So it's not really disrupting anything.
[00:24:03] It should still be able to happen.
[00:24:06] They've been doing this for years.
[00:24:08] They had all of these permits ready to go.
[00:24:11] Anaheim knew that they were building
[00:24:13] Galaxy's Edge.
[00:24:14] They had all of the permits for doing the race.
[00:24:17] They had all this set up.
[00:24:18] All these things happen well in advance.
[00:24:20] To the point where you wouldn't just
[00:24:22] suddenly cancel the event if you,
[00:24:24] for years, planned this.
[00:24:25] Exactly.
[00:24:26] Exactly.
[00:24:27] But the city council is saying,
[00:24:29] well, we kind of don't want you to do this major project.
[00:24:32] Now, tied in with this to make it more complex
[00:24:35] is that what was on the table,
[00:24:38] what Disney wanted from Anaheim was a tax break
[00:24:41] to say, we're going to build a new parking structure.
[00:24:43] We're going to expand our parks.
[00:24:45] We're going to expand another hotel, big time hotel,
[00:24:48] big time bucks coming to the city gives a tax break.
[00:24:50] So what Anaheim came back with was
[00:24:53] increase the wages for your workers.
[00:24:56] Here's the rate at which you will increase their wages
[00:24:58] each year for the next, I think it was five years.
[00:25:02] And you do that and we'll give you your tax break.
[00:25:05] And Disney said, no thanks.
[00:25:07] And walked from the deal.
[00:25:09] They had started no construction.
[00:25:11] They had already closed the AMC.
[00:25:13] They had already closed the ESPN zone,
[00:25:15] the Rainforest Cafe, Earl of Sandwich.
[00:25:18] So big tax centers, big money spending areas closed.
[00:25:23] They closed down the races.
[00:25:25] And here's where the money comes in.
[00:25:27] Races in Anaheim would bring in between 10 to 20 million
[00:25:32] dollars not to Disney to the Anaheim area.
[00:25:36] Every time there was a race in Disneyland.
[00:25:38] That's how much these race weekends meant
[00:25:41] to the city of Anaheim.
[00:25:43] So that's kind of what we're looking at here.
[00:25:46] That's where these rumors started up.
[00:25:48] And it really is one of those things that it's credible.
[00:25:53] I don't know if that really happened.
[00:25:55] I don't know for sure.
[00:25:57] Politically, it seems to be valid.
[00:26:01] It fits.
[00:26:02] I know that's how a lot of conspiracies go as it fits.
[00:26:06] David, any thoughts on this?
[00:26:08] Being a Disneylander?
[00:26:10] They're going to say being a conspiracy theorist.
[00:26:12] Either way.
[00:26:14] Either way.
[00:26:16] The part about the increased mandate,
[00:26:20] the mandate increase wages, that doesn't seem like that.
[00:26:26] If I were the city council,
[00:26:28] that would be what I'd most be concerned about.
[00:26:30] But yeah, it doesn't surprise me at all
[00:26:33] that the economic reality of cancelling the weekend
[00:26:38] puts pressure on the council to finally
[00:26:42] acquiesce to what is their largest source of revenue,
[00:26:46] which is the park.
[00:26:47] And it makes sense that businesses around
[00:26:50] would probably during these otherwise very slow times
[00:26:54] really appreciate thousands of people coming in
[00:26:57] and staying at their hotels and eating at their restaurants.
[00:27:00] Well, yeah, because you can't fill up
[00:27:02] the amount of people that do these races,
[00:27:04] even in Anaheim where they're somewhat smaller,
[00:27:07] Disney doesn't have the space for them
[00:27:10] in Disneyland in Grand Californian
[00:27:12] and Paradise Pier at the time.
[00:27:14] They really rely on all of the other hotels
[00:27:16] in the area to do this.
[00:27:18] So, yeah, I don't know.
[00:27:20] It's an interesting thing.
[00:27:22] Obviously things have been patched up at this point
[00:27:25] because, well, Galaxy's Edge was finished.
[00:27:29] Races didn't come back.
[00:27:31] But shortly after Galaxy's Edge was finished,
[00:27:35] we had one of those pandemic things.
[00:27:38] So, guys, remember that one?
[00:27:40] Any details on this little sound scheme?
[00:27:43] A little fog and a million.
[00:27:45] Kind of.
[00:27:47] Oh, I skipped over something before that.
[00:27:50] The last race in the Anaheim area
[00:27:54] was the November 9th through 12th Avengers
[00:27:57] superhero half marathon weekend.
[00:28:00] That was also the weekend of the Ears Up podcast,
[00:28:03] 100th episode live event at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen,
[00:28:07] which is part of the reason this show exists.
[00:28:10] So, thank you, Avengers weekend.
[00:28:13] I remember Jason saying,
[00:28:14] I wish I knew that there was a race this weekend
[00:28:16] because it was really...
[00:28:18] And what day was that? What was the date?
[00:28:20] 9th through 12th of November.
[00:28:25] I can't remember which date the podcast was on
[00:28:28] because I did all of the races.
[00:28:30] I did the 10,
[00:28:31] I did all three for the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge.
[00:28:34] I did the 10, the 5...
[00:28:37] 10, yeah, 5, 10, half.
[00:28:39] No, it was just 10 and half.
[00:28:40] Yeah, a lot of the challenges are just 10 and half.
[00:28:42] Yeah, they leave out the five,
[00:28:43] which is very popular anyway.
[00:28:45] Yeah, I did the two.
[00:28:47] I think it was on Sunday.
[00:28:49] I think it was after the half that we did it.
[00:28:51] But maybe it was Saturday.
[00:28:53] I can't quite remember now.
[00:28:54] I should have this kind of very important detail.
[00:28:57] But this is where I met Jimmy and Dan.
[00:29:00] Jimmy and Dan knew each other, of course, previously.
[00:29:04] Dan wanted to start a podcast.
[00:29:06] It's the whole thing, we've talked about it before.
[00:29:08] But it's just an interesting little thing.
[00:29:09] That was the last race that they held there.
[00:29:12] And speaking of last races,
[00:29:14] the last race that was run before COVID,
[00:29:16] we mentioned before was the 2020
[00:29:19] Walt Disney World Princess Half Marathon weekend.
[00:29:22] That was in February of 2020.
[00:29:24] Right.
[00:29:25] Mike and I did that one.
[00:29:27] That is where I learned what happens when you get swept from a race.
[00:29:31] That's the only race I've ever been swept from.
[00:29:33] Mike made it so far through the race.
[00:29:35] You were at like mile 10.
[00:29:37] I was, yeah.
[00:29:38] You were closing in on Epcot.
[00:29:39] And you said you were like looking around.
[00:29:41] You're admiring Epcot as you're coming up.
[00:29:43] Lost track of time.
[00:29:45] Yes, yes.
[00:29:47] That was...
[00:29:49] I still claim for that race,
[00:29:51] you had to walk two miles to the start line.
[00:29:53] And I want my two miles there
[00:29:55] because I feel like that kind of would have pushed me over the edge.
[00:29:58] That was a pain.
[00:29:59] That particular route,
[00:30:01] I know it's a popular race because it actually goes to...
[00:30:06] It's the only one other than the marathon.
[00:30:08] That runs through the castle?
[00:30:09] That runs through the castle.
[00:30:10] That runs through the Magic Kingdom.
[00:30:12] But the run from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom is a full five miles.
[00:30:16] So most of the race route is you running north.
[00:30:19] And then you run through the park and you run south.
[00:30:23] And then you're done.
[00:30:25] That's most of that marathon.
[00:30:27] When you get through the castle, you're like, well...
[00:30:29] Alright, back on the highway.
[00:30:32] And you're just looking at all the people running the opposite direction.
[00:30:35] You're like, see you soon.
[00:30:37] Yeah, it's not the most interesting route.
[00:30:39] I really like the other halves where you go through the other three parks.
[00:30:42] Yeah, absolutely.
[00:30:44] That's just a personal preference.
[00:30:46] It's kind of nice to run through the castle.
[00:30:48] You're going to get some hate mail on this one, I bet.
[00:30:50] Oh, I would love to get an email.
[00:30:52] Please email us at mrenfrow at concierge.com
[00:30:56] or call 856HOURYEARS to deliver some feedback.
[00:31:01] Absolutely.
[00:31:02] Mike doesn't realize that we say this every episode
[00:31:05] whenever we say something controversial.
[00:31:07] Dan tells us to call 856HOURYEARS.
[00:31:10] And my name is Lindsay Wells.
[00:31:14] Let's see.
[00:31:16] So, yeah, that was the last race for a little while.
[00:31:19] The pandemic hit a few...
[00:31:21] It went into big effect a few weeks later.
[00:31:24] Let's see, I also have in my notes that I bought into DVC that weekend,
[00:31:28] which I also couldn't use for quite some time.
[00:31:31] I remember three weeks later thinking I am so glad I didn't buy into DVC at that point.
[00:31:37] They let us banker points for a while.
[00:31:40] I have tons of points still.
[00:31:42] Let's see.
[00:31:43] So they canceled the Star Wars rival run, the Wine and Dine,
[00:31:46] and some more of the early 2021 races moved to virtual.
[00:31:52] That's right.
[00:31:53] And then the first race back was...
[00:31:56] Because of course, the pandemic was completely over in the state of Florida
[00:31:59] in November of 2021 when the Wine and Dine returned to in-person racing
[00:32:04] with modifications.
[00:32:05] There was a lot of spacing.
[00:32:07] They had a much smaller group of people running.
[00:32:10] And yeah, let's see.
[00:32:13] We've got our 2023 or 2024 Walt Disney World Marathon
[00:32:18] with our 80-year-old man.
[00:32:20] We've already got that part done.
[00:32:23] Yeah, so the biggest news lately has been that as of 2024,
[00:32:28] we've got the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend back.
[00:32:31] That was wildly popular.
[00:32:33] Everybody was very excited to have that announced and get back into running in Anaheim.
[00:32:41] Yeah, and those have continued.
[00:32:43] We've got some more races coming up this year.
[00:32:45] We can talk about the current schedule, next year's schedule later on.
[00:32:48] We'll save that for the next half of this.
[00:32:51] Yeah, I was going to ask you, do you have any thoughts on why tomorrow's run
[00:32:56] is a 10-miler and not a half marathon?
[00:32:58] You know what? That's interesting.
[00:32:59] I think it's because of me.
[00:33:01] Oh, that makes a lot of sense.
[00:33:03] I generally think things revolve around you, Eric.
[00:33:05] Well, thank you.
[00:33:06] I'm glad you recognized that.
[00:33:07] David looked surprised.
[00:33:09] But he doesn't know me as well as you do.
[00:33:11] That's true.
[00:33:12] That's true.
[00:33:13] I'm not sure.
[00:33:14] The 10-milers, they didn't have a lot of 10-milers.
[00:33:19] The 10-milers that they used to have was...
[00:33:21] So the Tower of Terror one you mentioned?
[00:33:23] The Tower of Terror 10-milers.
[00:33:24] That was my first race and that was literally 10 years ago.
[00:33:26] Well, I guess not literally because it was in October, I think.
[00:33:32] But yeah, 10 years ago was my first race and that was the Tower of Terror.
[00:33:36] They also had the Expedition Everest 10-mile race.
[00:33:39] Maybe talking about that one, yeah.
[00:33:41] And that one, both of those disappeared.
[00:33:44] Both night races, as I recall, they don't do night races at all anymore.
[00:33:48] Yeah, it's interesting.
[00:33:49] On the Expedition Everest, do you run forwards and then run backwards for a long stretch of it?
[00:33:54] Yeah, you get to a certain point and stop.
[00:33:58] All right, everybody run backwards.
[00:34:00] Sweet.
[00:34:01] No, that's the Princess Marathon.
[00:34:02] You get to the castle and then you just run backwards.
[00:34:04] David got to experience Expedition Everest for the first time today.
[00:34:07] Yes.
[00:34:08] So he was great.
[00:34:09] He was great getting his and his kids' reactions because I remember my first time going on it.
[00:34:15] And yeah, if you haven't, folks, head out there to that animal kingdom and give it a shot.
[00:34:21] Just go yeti and all.
[00:34:23] But yeah, there used to be night races.
[00:34:26] There were a lot of cancellations for a while.
[00:34:28] Mike's gone through some of those.
[00:34:30] I know I've gone through a few where cancellations or shortings of the races due to evening thunderstorms,
[00:34:36] which are popular around here in Florida.
[00:34:38] They love their evening thunderstorms.
[00:34:41] But it kind of disrupted a lot.
[00:34:43] I like the night ones because I don't like waking up at 3 a.m. to stand in the cold.
[00:34:49] I like going through the day and taking a little nap and then showing up and running at 10 p.m.
[00:34:56] Could you imagine a night race that ran through Pandora?
[00:34:59] That'd be cool.
[00:35:00] It would be cool, although if you're out there early enough, some of the haves will get you over.
[00:35:06] If you're in some of the earlier corrals have run through before the sun comes up,
[00:35:09] you get that effect of the nighttime.
[00:35:11] So it is pretty cool.
[00:35:13] We'll talk about the kind of structure of races a little bit more in the next part.
[00:35:19] I want to make sure that we give my co-host some time to get some sleep here.
[00:35:24] But let's end with an unfun fact to round things out for this part of the episode.
[00:35:34] As far as I can tell, as far as I've been able to find, there have been only two deaths reported during a run Disney race.
[00:35:42] Interesting.
[00:35:43] During a race.
[00:35:45] On November 5th, 2017, during the Wine and Dine half, a person collapsed near the finish line and later died.
[00:35:55] During the November 1st, 2019 fall feast, 5K, also during the Wine and Dine, a runner collapsed and died along the course.
[00:36:06] It's always unfortunate to hear that these things do happen.
[00:36:12] As far as I can...
[00:36:14] It's Disney, they're not going to release a lot of details, but they said it was always of natural causes.
[00:36:20] I think considering the amount of people that have run these races and the amount of years that these have gone on,
[00:36:25] I'm actually kind of impressed that there haven't been more issues.
[00:36:28] I'm sure that there have been myriad emergencies that happen along the course that have been taken care of.
[00:36:33] And of course, like everything Disney, they do an excellent job with their medical personnel and safety and all that.
[00:36:40] They're all throughout the course.
[00:36:43] Yeah, absolutely.
[00:36:45] Well, we're going to take a little time here.
[00:36:50] We're going to go to bed and prepare for the race tomorrow.
[00:36:54] We're going to get back together.
[00:36:56] We're going to talk about this and I'm going to get David's reaction for his first 10 mile run.
[00:37:02] Have you actually done a practice 10 mile run in your practicing so far?
[00:37:06] Will this be your longest run ever?
[00:37:09] Yep.
[00:37:10] That's awesome.
[00:37:12] I did a 15k tough mudder.
[00:37:15] Okay, so not too much longer.
[00:37:18] But that's, I think it's kind of easier because you're just climbing over stuff, getting breaks.
[00:37:23] You run for a bit, climb over something.
[00:37:25] That one was okay.
[00:37:28] Although I'm questioning for not having read the waiver a little closer given the, I don't see risk of death, but...
[00:37:36] Yeah, we'll see how it goes.
[00:37:38] We're just going to scare David a little bit more because I gave him the hard eye contact earlier and said it'll be fine.
[00:37:43] It can't be any worse than podcasting or more dangerous.
[00:37:46] Yes, more podcasters die.
[00:37:48] That's true.
[00:37:50] Oh, that's not the right sound.
[00:37:55] More podcasters die every year due to PTD.
[00:38:02] It's a new acronym.
[00:38:03] There's also a new drug for it.
[00:38:05] You can trust me, I'm a scientist.
[00:38:09] Okay, back to the show here.
[00:38:12] We're going to take a quick ad break and when we get back from that ad break, you're going to hear tired people, different, a different type of tired people, but the same people, they'll just be a different type of tired.
[00:38:24] Here's our ad break sound.
[00:38:28] Your attention please.

[00:39:01] All right, for our ad this week here in the sponsor lounge, we've got Mike from Concey Ears.
[00:39:08] Mike, Jimmy usually talks about some of the fun trips he's been putting together for listeners.
[00:39:13] He leaves out names, of course.
[00:39:14] He usually leaves out their addresses as well.
[00:39:18] You talked a little bit about the Pacific Northwest mouse meat.
[00:39:21] Is there anything else you'd like to kind of plug as part of your appearance on this episode tonight?
[00:39:26] Yeah, I mean just in general it's fun being here with you Eric and just being able to think back that you and I started as you were a client.
[00:39:34] Back when the company was basically I think myself and was it just me at that time?
[00:39:39] It might have been. I think that was before James.
[00:39:41] That's right.
[00:39:42] James and Lindsay.
[00:39:43] You traveled so much that you were able to fund the company to the level that we are now with.
[00:39:48] I think we have about 15 planners all across the country.
[00:39:52] And so it really is.
[00:39:54] This is what we're doing right now is what the company was built on.
[00:39:57] It's developing relationships, growing families through enjoying Walt's dream.
[00:40:02] And so just excited to keep doing that and would love to help your families.
[00:40:07] Thank you, Mike.
[00:40:09] And thank you for making me a very famous and very poor man.
[00:40:14] You too can have international fame if you reach the platinum level with Concey years.
[00:40:21] That's 19 trips per year.
[00:40:24] There you go.
[00:40:25] Or as a platinum sponsor for you.
[00:40:28] Or a platinum sponsor for this podcast I guarantee.
[00:40:32] If you ask us what the platinum level is we will find a pricing option that's right for you.
[00:40:37] Thanks, Mike.
[00:40:38] That's a great idea.
[00:40:39] Let me write that down.
[00:40:41] Platinum.
[00:40:42] I misspelled platinum.
[00:40:44] We'll just keep...
[00:40:45] Yeah.
[00:40:46] I don't have to tell the listeners that.
[00:40:47] I spelled it properly.
[00:40:48] It's...
[00:40:49] Platium is just the same.
[00:40:50] Yeah.
[00:40:51] Thanks for joining us.
[00:40:53] We'll talk to you all real soon.
[00:41:12] All right.
[00:41:13] So we're heading up to the front here.
[00:41:15] We just got out of our car.
[00:41:18] Running...
[00:41:19] Not running.
[00:41:20] No, we're not running for a while.
[00:41:21] Walking straight for Spaceship Earth here.
[00:41:24] We've got a little ways to go around, get through the gates, security and everything.
[00:41:27] So this is going to be pretty fun.
[00:41:29] How are we feeling this morning?
[00:41:30] Although they're running us for security.
[00:41:32] Excellent, excellent.
[00:41:33] Super excited.
[00:41:35] David.
[00:41:36] I've been more awake in the past but I'm okay.
[00:41:39] Olivia?
[00:41:40] I am crazy awake right now.
[00:41:43] That lavender ice latte has me hype.
[00:41:47] Lavender?
[00:41:48] Nice.
[00:41:49] The key to your success.
[00:41:52] Excellent.
[00:41:53] Okay, well we'll check in in a minute here.
[00:41:57] Okay, the van Morrison is playing.
[00:42:00] Speakers are hot.
[00:42:01] We're running in.
[00:42:04] I don't know what time I've cut up.
[00:42:05] Instead I might come.
[00:42:06] Sorry.
[00:42:07] I forgot to look.
[00:42:08] We were going to look.
[00:42:09] Eight or nine.
[00:42:12] Just heading through.
[00:42:13] Everybody's got that jittery shuffle as we head toward the start line.
[00:42:19] That's a good idea from Mike here.
[00:42:21] Mike, what's your proposal?
[00:42:22] All right, we're going to see and keep track of like what the most outrageous costume that we came across today.
[00:42:29] Looking forward to it.
[00:42:31] We could probably have some supplemental categories.
[00:42:34] Most elaborate costume, maybe best theme and maybe the most ridiculous looking thing to run in,
[00:42:40] was one of my favorites to both do and see.
[00:42:44] I just saw Mr. and Mrs. Incredible.
[00:42:46] They looked great.
[00:42:48] That's cool.
[00:42:49] David and Olivia have some incredible steaming here.
[00:42:52] They've got their domino masks, but yeah, we'll see what we find out.
[00:42:59] As Mike points out, there's a guy who's walking around pretending he's a podcaster speaking into a microphone.
[00:43:06] Okay, last check here.
[00:43:08] Mike's going to head into his B area.
[00:43:11] I'm going to hang out with you lower corral individuals for a little bit here.
[00:43:15] I like just walking around in the other corrals feeling slightly superior.
[00:43:21] Yeah, slumming it with us.
[00:43:23] Olivia, are you ready?
[00:43:25] Woo!
[00:43:26] Yeah.
[00:43:27] Testing the sound check there.
[00:43:30] All right.
[00:43:31] I'm ready-ish.
[00:43:33] This is going to happen.
[00:43:36] What's your impression so far?
[00:43:39] Is this as many people as you thought it would be?
[00:43:42] It's pretty well organized.
[00:43:44] It's pretty well laid out.
[00:43:45] As a total noob, I have no idea what to expect.
[00:43:50] It looks like they're ready for a lot of people,
[00:43:53] until they've done this before.
[00:43:55] Yep, we've got corrals heading all the way out to E.
[00:43:59] So you guys, you're not in the last corral.
[00:44:01] There's further E.
[00:44:03] There's way more people that'll be behind you,
[00:44:06] so I think we're in good shape here.
[00:44:08] All right, well let's go with the flow.
[00:44:10] I'm going to sign off here and talk to you all after the race.
[00:44:14] All right, we successfully made it through all 10 miles complete.
[00:44:22] I got laughed by the Sallys, but that's fine.
[00:44:25] I ran into them immediately after crossing the finish line.
[00:44:28] That was a treat.
[00:44:29] Didn't know that they had passed me.
[00:44:33] Pretty good run.
[00:44:36] I did what I had hoped, which is stay alive.
[00:44:39] And there's nothing wrong with that.
[00:44:42] Hey David, what do you think?
[00:44:45] Pretty tired right now.
[00:44:47] That was a lot of fun.
[00:44:48] It was well organized.
[00:44:51] I'd not seen one of those parks before,
[00:44:53] so it was a nice little distraction, kind of in and out.
[00:44:56] Like the courses laid out well, they had water everywhere.
[00:44:59] It was great.
[00:45:00] I would do it again.
[00:45:01] It was fun.
[00:45:02] All right.
[00:45:03] Livia, do you have any words?
[00:45:04] That was the best run of my life.
[00:45:07] It was so fun.
[00:45:09] You know, my dad and I inspired one another.
[00:45:13] Sometimes he would run up ahead of me on a hill
[00:45:16] and then I would have to sprint up after him and vice versa.
[00:45:20] So, you know, I'm happy with the performance.
[00:45:23] I'm happy to inspire many.
[00:45:26] That sounded pretty sincere.
[00:45:28] I don't know.
[00:45:29] I thought it was Corny at first, but then she really went for it.
[00:45:31] So I texted you when I registered,
[00:45:35] I registered the two of us and I was like,
[00:45:37] Hey man, these are sunup pretty quick.
[00:45:39] They don't have the 10K anymore.
[00:45:41] And Livia and I were both like, oh, okay.
[00:45:46] I guess 10 miles.
[00:45:48] And she started training quite a bit.
[00:45:50] She crashed it.
[00:45:51] She was great today.
[00:45:52] She helped me get through it.
[00:45:53] There were quite a few times when I just wanted to like
[00:45:57] lay down the grass to snap, but it was good.
[00:45:59] I mean, it was great to see all sorts of athletes out there.
[00:46:02] Some running, some walking, supporting each other going to his group.
[00:46:05] It was great.
[00:46:07] That's the idea.
[00:46:09] Oh, wait.
[00:46:10] There were some run, walk running as in the method.
[00:46:15] The Galway method, yeah.
[00:46:16] Exactly.
[00:46:17] Yeah, that's really big here for obvious reasons.
[00:46:21] But yeah, we'll do a full debrief.
[00:46:23] We'll get Mike's opinion when he comes across.
[00:46:25] He's only a couple of miles behind, I'd say.
[00:46:27] So we'll be seeing him soon.
[00:46:29] We'll do a better take once we get back to the hotel.
[00:46:35] But for now, I'm going to sit down and stretch out and enjoy this sweet, unripe banana.
[00:46:41] Did I win?
[00:46:45] Is that you?
[00:46:47] Whatever you want to say.
[00:46:50] We made it.
[00:46:51] This honestly was probably the best run weather that I've ever had.
[00:46:55] It slightly overcasts.
[00:46:58] It was beautiful.
[00:47:00] Good what's the temp out right now?
[00:47:03] Probably 70.
[00:47:05] Yeah, that's wonderful.
[00:47:07] Good race.
[00:47:09] Thanks for joining us.
[00:47:11] We'll talk to you all real soon.
