[00:00:16] Welcome to the Supreme Resort, Land V World, a podcast about Disneyland and Walt Disney World and which is the Supreme Resort.
[00:00:27] Each episode we will discuss and explore each resort ride by ride, land by land, park by park to determine which is better.
[00:00:34] I'm your host Jimmy and thank you for joining us, or joining me I guess, because I'm your host, on this quest to help the greater good of humanity answer this long elusive question, which is better, Disneyland or Disney World?
[00:00:47] Joining me as always is Dan, hi Dan.
[00:00:51] Hi, my 10 gallon mega hat hasn't arrived yet, but it's coming, so I can express the true me, the real me.
[00:01:00] I have a question I don't know if I've asked before.
[00:01:02] Yes.
[00:01:03] Scraping the Vault, you're on that show?
[00:01:05] Yes.
[00:01:05] Is the character on that show or are you real Dan?
[00:01:09] Uh, I am trying to introduce more of real Dan, but sometimes I feel like I need to represent the character.
[00:01:21] Okay.
[00:01:22] Based on the conversations that we're having.
[00:01:24] I think I did ask you last time, like how did you really feel about Cinderella 3?
[00:01:27] Right.
[00:01:27] How did real Dan feel about it?
[00:01:28] I forgot.
[00:01:28] Loved it.
[00:01:29] Yeah, I thought so.
[00:01:30] We also have Eric.
[00:01:32] Hi, Eric.
[00:01:32] Eric?
[00:01:33] Hey, yeah, as a Supreme Scraping Vault listener, I can tell you.
[00:01:40] I've already read it.
[00:01:41] I know all about it.
[00:01:43] Okay.
[00:01:43] All right.
[00:01:44] Well, not everybody knows about that one, so they don't know my screen name and I'm not telling you that.
[00:01:50] Uh, but, uh, but yeah, it was pretty clear.
[00:01:57] Sorry.
[00:01:58] Gotta bring up my, my years of sync sales experience.
[00:02:03] Okay, fine.
[00:02:04] But in that episode, it was pretty clear that that was Dan's coming out moment.
[00:02:08] He was finally confident enough to, to shed his character.
[00:02:12] Yeah.
[00:02:12] Yeah.
[00:02:12] How did you feel about a Cinderella 3, Eric?
[00:02:15] I haven't watched it.
[00:02:17] Cause why would I?
[00:02:18] Oh, I listened to your show.
[00:02:20] True.
[00:02:20] There you go.
[00:02:21] Uh, okay.
[00:02:22] So listener, we've been on a journey together where we began and we talked about Disney's
[00:02:31] value resorts, both at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, an exhaustive three part series.
[00:02:37] And then we thought, well, while we're at it, who needs rides?
[00:02:41] Uh, some, some people need rides.
[00:02:43] So we opted Eric's idea.
[00:02:47] I'm sure to continue to talk about moderate hotels.
[00:02:51] We started with six hotels at Disneyland resort.
[00:02:54] Eric, don't you just go to Disney parks to like eat breakfast anyway?
[00:02:57] That's really all he goes for.
[00:02:59] Yeah.
[00:02:59] Like he rope drops to eat breakfast.
[00:03:02] Yeah.
[00:03:02] Then I go back to the hotel and I swim.
[00:03:04] Yeah.
[00:03:05] At the moderate or five hour swim.
[00:03:07] You know why he's bored of the subject?
[00:03:09] Is it cause he only stays at Deluxe?
[00:03:10] It's not fancy enough for him.
[00:03:11] That's right.
[00:03:11] I get it.
[00:03:12] Yeah.
[00:03:12] When we get to Deluxe, he's going to want to make a 10 part series.
[00:03:15] Yeah.
[00:03:15] You see, this is clear.
[00:03:17] Like, you know, I maybe throw a ride in here and there to get people revved up and then
[00:03:22] give them the, that's the amuse bouche for my 10 part Deluxe hotels.
[00:03:29] Yeah.
[00:03:29] So listener, you know how they introduced this whole like lightning lane, Supreme, whatever,
[00:03:35] like you could spend $30 a day or you could spend 400.
[00:03:38] That was made for an audience of one.
[00:03:41] That's Eric.
[00:03:41] I, I bought one and I wasn't even going that week.
[00:03:46] That's right.
[00:03:48] So anyway,
[00:03:49] the next week you bought one and just sent it Jolly Holiday.
[00:03:53] That's right.
[00:03:54] So waiting for the next parade to roll through.
[00:03:58] So, um,
[00:04:00] soap, soap snow, please.
[00:04:03] My, my sister, this is something I haven't talked about.
[00:04:05] My sister was at Disneyland a few weeks ago and she was sitting near, uh, it's a small
[00:04:12] world, you know, the Edelweiss snacks with the chimichangas that we all love.
[00:04:16] Yes.
[00:04:16] Oh yeah.
[00:04:17] Yeah.
[00:04:17] Uh, she was sitting there.
[00:04:19] There's a body of water there.
[00:04:20] I think that used to be the little boats.
[00:04:22] A little mini boat.
[00:04:23] Yeah.
[00:04:23] Yeah.
[00:04:25] So that water is not connected to the rest of the resort.
[00:04:29] You know, famously the, you know, the jungle cruise and the rivers of America and all that.
[00:04:34] They're all connected.
[00:04:34] That body of water is not.
[00:04:36] Okay.
[00:04:36] That's independent.
[00:04:37] Oh,
[00:04:38] as she's sitting there waiting for fireworks to watch in front of, it's a small world.
[00:04:43] Her phone, which is also her wallet.
[00:04:46] You know, it's one of those things, a little pouch falls into that body of water.
[00:04:50] Oh no.
[00:04:51] So she had like pinpointed exactly where she was sitting.
[00:04:54] She goes like, Hey Disneyland, uh, this fell in.
[00:04:58] They're like, well, we'll let you know whenever we scrape the bottom.
[00:05:00] We do that occasionally.
[00:05:02] And I even reached out to Horace and said, Hey, can you help out?
[00:05:05] Because you know, we know exactly where it is.
[00:05:08] And, um, they, they've since tread to thing like three times and they found a bunch of phones,
[00:05:13] but not hers.
[00:05:14] Oh no.
[00:05:16] Her, her credit cards, a hundred dollar bill, phone, et cetera.
[00:05:20] Wow.
[00:05:20] Anyway, just a fun little sidebar.
[00:05:22] Just carrying a Benjamin around.
[00:05:23] Okay.
[00:05:24] I did.
[00:05:24] I did start following a duck at Disneyland though on his Instagram and his new Instagram
[00:05:30] account.
[00:05:30] Just nothing but like butt pics.
[00:05:32] And it seems like a really dirty camera that he's using.
[00:05:36] I suspect.
[00:05:36] Is that it?
[00:05:37] Yeah.
[00:05:37] That's probably it.
[00:05:39] Um, anyway, so listener, we are, uh, on part three of my,
[00:05:43] moderate hotels.
[00:05:44] So we started with the first six in order of price at Disneyland.
[00:05:47] Then Eric and I did a delightful history and detail of the four moderate resorts at
[00:05:53] Disney world.
[00:05:54] I was there.
[00:05:56] Oh yeah, that's right.
[00:05:57] I was highly distracted, but I was there.
[00:05:59] It's hard to remember.
[00:06:00] I was there for the first part.
[00:06:01] It's hard to remember which, which Dan was there.
[00:06:04] Yeah.
[00:06:05] Um, anyway, so now we are about to endeavor on the third part, part three in the series
[00:06:11] of Disney's moderate hotels.
[00:06:14] We're going to continue on with the next seven, the final seven, I should say, of the moderate
[00:06:19] hotels.
[00:06:20] You guys ready for that?
[00:06:21] Uh, but, uh, you know, there are so many other things we could talk about first.
[00:06:26] Yeah.
[00:06:27] Now, Eric, you've been trying to distract from this for a while in our chat.
[00:06:31] Eric sends out, Oh, how about we cover Christmas?
[00:06:34] How about we cover something more relevant?
[00:06:36] You even mentioned kids.
[00:06:37] How about Mr. Toad in Disneyland?
[00:06:39] Like every day, every day.
[00:06:41] Every day.
[00:06:42] There's something.
[00:06:42] Oh, and what if we do the Tiki room?
[00:06:44] We're just like, oh yeah, right.
[00:06:46] Like the other day, whatever.
[00:06:47] Yeah.
[00:06:48] Who invited him on this show?
[00:06:50] Um, anyway, so yes, Eric, that is true.
[00:06:52] There are other topics, but the listeners demand that we finish this series on moderate hotels.
[00:07:00] Do, do, do they, or, or does, I mean, what about our sponsor?
[00:07:06] Well, uh, well first before we do that.
[00:07:08] Okay.
[00:07:08] Okay.
[00:07:09] Listener, um, and Dan and Eric, I haven't talked to you about this, this thing, but.
[00:07:14] Oh, concierge.
[00:07:15] I was going to say we haven't gotten our first ad from Asher coin yet, but.
[00:07:19] No, we're not.
[00:07:20] They are now a sponsor.
[00:07:21] Yep.
[00:07:21] But before we get to that, um, two weeks ago, I had gotten home from a trip, um, business
[00:07:27] trip and I went on our local green way, a little, you know, it's a, we have a lovely
[00:07:33] community with miles and miles of green space, you know, walks, whatever.
[00:07:39] Humble brag.
[00:07:39] I parked in an open public parking lot with plenty of people, plenty of activity, wide
[00:07:45] open, middle of the day.
[00:07:48] And whilst my, I was on my 40 minute walk, I intended to run.
[00:07:52] I didn't, I walked for 40 minutes.
[00:07:54] I know it was 40 minutes because I picked up the phone to call my sister, the one that
[00:07:58] had lost her wallet at Disneyland.
[00:08:01] And I got back 40 minutes later.
[00:08:03] And when I did my path, my driver's side door, there was a crack in the window.
[00:08:09] I was like, I don't remember that.
[00:08:10] Oh no.
[00:08:11] And there was a, it was a guy in the parking lot and he said, Hey, did your car get broken
[00:08:14] into?
[00:08:15] And I said, I don't think so.
[00:08:16] And I looked at it and I was like, there's a crack in the window, but that wasn't there
[00:08:19] before.
[00:08:20] And there's all this glass on the ground, but I don't know why.
[00:08:23] And then I realized my, my passenger side window behind the driver's side was gone.
[00:08:29] And there was glass shattered throughout the car.
[00:08:31] I mean, it was shattered.
[00:08:34] And you know, the initial shock of whatever.
[00:08:37] Wait, let me cue up that song.
[00:08:38] I don't know that song.
[00:08:39] The Rolling Stone song, She'll Be Shattered.
[00:08:41] I'll find it.
[00:08:42] Don't worry.
[00:08:43] Please.
[00:08:43] If we have to talk more about hotels, I'll put it in a post.
[00:08:48] Anyway, so, you know, anytime you get broken into Rob, whatever, there's this feeling of
[00:08:54] violation.
[00:08:54] What do I do first?
[00:08:55] Call the police.
[00:08:56] What do I do?
[00:08:57] And so the first thing I did was I went to look for my wallet.
[00:09:01] When I go for a run or whatever, I leave my wallet in my car.
[00:09:04] Now, listen to my wallet.
[00:09:06] My car has a center console between the driver's and passenger seat.
[00:09:11] It's a little door that you open up.
[00:09:13] And inside that door is a little caddy.
[00:09:15] And in that caddy, I have napkins.
[00:09:18] I have coins.
[00:09:19] I have pens, just misleading stuff.
[00:09:21] Good coins are like just random change.
[00:09:24] Yeah.
[00:09:25] Like nothing significant.
[00:09:26] Lift up the caddy and there's a compartment underneath it.
[00:09:30] In that compartment is a box of tissues.
[00:09:33] Underneath the box of tissues is my wallet.
[00:09:35] Okay.
[00:09:36] So this is not like my wallet was sitting on the dashboard.
[00:09:39] Come on, break in.
[00:09:40] There was nothing else in my car.
[00:09:42] My wife had just emptied it.
[00:09:43] I was on a trip.
[00:09:44] She'd emptied the car of everything to get it cleaned.
[00:09:47] So these people were going to break in the car one way or the other.
[00:09:51] So police, they tried to use my card at a place in the next town over.
[00:09:58] And they were unsuccessful.
[00:10:01] Anyway, there's police activity.
[00:10:02] There's stuff going on.
[00:10:04] But meanwhile, hold my credit.
[00:10:07] Hold my, you know, cancel my credit cards.
[00:10:09] My ID, like everything.
[00:10:12] That I have to do all this stuff.
[00:10:14] Police report.
[00:10:15] Now my car's broken.
[00:10:17] I have to file a claim with the insurance company.
[00:10:19] I have to get my car fixed.
[00:10:20] Now I have to update my recurring charges for Patreon for my Disney nerd podcast.
[00:10:25] And I have, I mean, just one thing after another.
[00:10:27] Just like it's weeks and weeks of just nonsense.
[00:10:31] And, and while it's just an inconvenience, everybody's happy.
[00:10:34] Everybody's healthy.
[00:10:35] But somebody has my home address, right?
[00:10:37] Somebody has access to do whatever they want to do.
[00:10:40] And it's just a little scary feeling.
[00:10:42] Is it a rabid fan?
[00:10:44] It could be.
[00:10:45] Because then I'd worry.
[00:10:47] Uh, yeah.
[00:10:48] If they have my address.
[00:10:50] Cease and desist.
[00:10:52] Um, anyhow.
[00:10:53] So it's just been a rough couple of weeks with that.
[00:10:55] And then that, that was the day I went to pick up my parents for Thanksgiving and people
[00:10:59] in town.
[00:10:59] I had to rent a car and it's just all this, just stuff.
[00:11:02] You know, come home the other day and the bathroom sink faucet is broken evidently.
[00:11:08] And it had been leaking and now it's water damage downstairs.
[00:11:11] And it's just like, come on.
[00:11:14] It's just all kinds of stuff.
[00:11:16] So I fixed the, the, the, the plumbing the other day.
[00:11:19] I fixed the sink and everything's all fixed, but there's still water damage.
[00:11:23] And then about an hour later, my wife says, are there's, she has a, um, like a little
[00:11:29] desk in the entryway of our house.
[00:11:32] And inside this desk is a built-in power strip.
[00:11:35] And that's where we plug in our Christmas lights on a timer.
[00:11:38] And those lights have been working all week.
[00:11:40] No problem.
[00:11:41] Friday after the plumbing incident.
[00:11:43] Now she says that the electrical doesn't work.
[00:11:45] Like, uh, power strip doesn't work.
[00:11:47] It's like, I'm going to go to Lowe's to pick up a new faucet for the bathroom.
[00:11:52] I'll pick up a new power strip, but I have handy tools.
[00:11:55] And I went and I said, there's power in this outlet.
[00:11:58] There's not power in the power strip.
[00:12:01] So the power strip is plugged into an outlet that has power.
[00:12:04] I was just going to ask.
[00:12:04] I was just going to ask.
[00:12:05] It was plugged in.
[00:12:05] It is plugged in.
[00:12:06] Okay.
[00:12:06] Very smart.
[00:12:07] But there's no power in the power strip.
[00:12:09] She's like, it's broken.
[00:12:10] It's crap.
[00:12:11] It's, it's just cheap.
[00:12:12] We need to get a new one.
[00:12:13] I said, okay, I will get a new one while I go to get the new faucet.
[00:12:17] But there's a break between these two things.
[00:12:22] There's something that is, that is stopping the power from getting from the wall to the power
[00:12:26] strip.
[00:12:27] Nope.
[00:12:28] No, there's not.
[00:12:28] It's just, it's cheap.
[00:12:30] It's old.
[00:12:30] We got to get a new one.
[00:12:31] I said, okay, but I'm telling you, there is some switch, GFI button.
[00:12:38] Something is stopping the power from getting to the power strip.
[00:12:41] Did you check the switch on the powers, on the powers?
[00:12:43] She says, there's not one.
[00:12:46] Okay.
[00:12:46] Okay.
[00:12:46] Okay.
[00:12:47] All right.
[00:12:47] So anyway, five minutes later, I'm about to go to the store.
[00:12:50] I come out.
[00:12:51] She says, oh, there was a switch.
[00:12:55] And I stopped right there, guys.
[00:12:56] And I said, this is it.
[00:12:58] This was Friday.
[00:12:59] This was two days ago.
[00:13:00] I said, this is it.
[00:13:02] I'm right.
[00:13:03] This is the first time in 20 years.
[00:13:06] I am right about something.
[00:13:08] Everything is sunshine and roses moving on.
[00:13:11] Everything is downhill from here.
[00:13:13] Everything is going to go right from now on.
[00:13:17] And I have to tell you this.
[00:13:19] We just went on.
[00:13:20] We did a little workout with the scouts just now.
[00:13:22] I got home from my workout and I received a package in the mail from an anonymous address
[00:13:28] in the next town over.
[00:13:30] And it says, dear James, my son and I were walking and found these on the sidewalk.
[00:13:35] We wanted to make sure no one stole your identity.
[00:13:38] Happy holidays.
[00:13:39] Oh, wow.
[00:13:40] My credit cards, my ID, everything from my wallet was returned to me because I was right.
[00:13:48] Crazy.
[00:13:50] There is still good in the world.
[00:13:51] Guys, I was in tears like, oh, my God.
[00:13:54] I mean, all the damage is done, but nobody has my stuff.
[00:13:58] You know what I mean?
[00:13:58] They didn't keep that.
[00:14:00] It feels so good.
[00:14:03] And those people took the time to put it in.
[00:14:05] And it's a P.O. box with no name.
[00:14:07] Like, this was totally anonymous and they weren't looking for anything.
[00:14:11] They're not asking for anything.
[00:14:12] They're just like, listen, we don't want people to steal your identity.
[00:14:16] Here's your stuff back.
[00:14:17] So the rabid fan already has your address and they said, I don't need this anymore.
[00:14:22] Yeah, that's right.
[00:14:24] Anyway, I wanted to share that because I thought it was a delightful feel good story.
[00:14:29] They're still good in the world.
[00:14:30] And thank you, rabid listener, for returning my stuff.
[00:14:35] It feels really good to know.
[00:14:36] Yeah, it's really nice.
[00:14:38] Anyway, let us get to moderate hotels part three.
[00:14:42] But wait, wait, wait, wait.
[00:14:43] We already said we should shout out to the sponsor and you didn't.
[00:14:49] Oh, okay.
[00:14:50] All right.
[00:14:50] All right.
[00:14:50] So two things, guys.
[00:14:52] Yeah, order of business.
[00:14:53] Yeah, yeah.
[00:14:53] Thing number one, we have a listener.
[00:14:58] Roarback is the last name.
[00:15:00] Only for one?
[00:15:01] We have more than one, but one of our listeners, Roarback, had recommended our services to her
[00:15:07] father-in-law.
[00:15:09] And her father-in-law and his wife booked a trip and I booked everything with them.
[00:15:15] They're lovely people.
[00:15:16] One of those couples who've been together for like, you know, six, seven hundred years.
[00:15:21] And one can't be on the phone without the other.
[00:15:25] Oh, yeah.
[00:15:26] Okay.
[00:15:27] I think, listener, you all know this couple.
[00:15:30] Every time he calls, she's also there.
[00:15:32] They're wonderful.
[00:15:33] Just a delight.
[00:15:35] You know, kind of remind me of my parents kind of thing.
[00:15:37] They're just wonderful people.
[00:15:39] So I booked their trip to their package to Disney World.
[00:15:42] I booked their flights.
[00:15:43] I did the whole bit.
[00:15:45] And they, you know, kept along with them.
[00:15:48] And they told me very clearly, they're very simple people, right?
[00:15:50] They said this to me.
[00:15:52] And meanwhile, I'm like, well, I'm going to book you some restaurants that I think are
[00:15:55] kind of interesting.
[00:15:56] California Grill.
[00:15:58] And I did the diner at Hollywood Studios where you keep your elbows off the table.
[00:16:05] Oh, 50s Primetime?
[00:16:07] Primetime Cafe.
[00:16:08] I booked Primetime Cafe.
[00:16:09] I said, hey, you should check out Satouli Caffeine at Animal Kingdom.
[00:16:15] Try the barbecue place.
[00:16:16] You can find normal stuff, right?
[00:16:18] I mean, maybe Satouli is a little bit unique.
[00:16:21] They put what's actually in there on the menu.
[00:16:24] But, you know, so I kind of, I was like, you know, yeah, I get your simple, you have
[00:16:29] simple palates, but try California Grill.
[00:16:31] You can get a steak there, you know, but what a wonderful view.
[00:16:34] Yeah, or a fish or a chicken.
[00:16:37] Yeah.
[00:16:37] Yeah, it's something like, just let's just kind of dabble, put your, dip your toe into
[00:16:41] this other world.
[00:16:42] Yeah.
[00:16:43] I think I did five reservations for them.
[00:16:45] Like, yeah, you can cancel whatever you want.
[00:16:47] Just here you go.
[00:16:49] Every last one of them was canceled.
[00:16:53] And, but when I had logged into the account to book their stuff for them, I didn't log
[00:16:59] out.
[00:16:59] And this happens a lot when I book for people is like, usually that's the last thing I
[00:17:03] did for that client.
[00:17:04] And I haven't logged in for myself.
[00:17:06] So I'm getting all of the alerts for everything that they're doing.
[00:17:10] It's like your hot dogs and hamburgers are ready to be picked up at Casey's corner.
[00:17:14] Yes.
[00:17:16] All right.
[00:17:16] They're that couple.
[00:17:18] I love it.
[00:17:18] You are not kidding.
[00:17:19] They were really excited about Mama Melrose.
[00:17:21] Okay.
[00:17:22] Yeah.
[00:17:23] Fair.
[00:17:23] Anyway.
[00:17:24] Yeah.
[00:17:24] So again, let me reiterate.
[00:17:26] I love these people.
[00:17:27] I like, if we lived nearby each other, I would go hang out with them just to hear them talk.
[00:17:31] They're great.
[00:17:32] Um, so Friday, this, that same Friday where I was right.
[00:17:37] They called me, um, before I found out about all that other nonsense and said, Hey, uh, you
[00:17:43] booked our trip where we're checking out of our hotel on Saturday and you booked our flight
[00:17:49] for leaving Sunday.
[00:17:51] And I'm like, Oh, for the love of God.
[00:17:53] Okay.
[00:17:54] So this is really not a glowing review of concierge other than what I did was I got onto United
[00:18:01] and I changed their flight zero fees.
[00:18:04] I'd all, I'd all got resolved.
[00:18:05] Right.
[00:18:06] But I felt so bad.
[00:18:07] And in our conversation, um, he had mentioned that he, they went to Epcot and he loved the
[00:18:13] grapefruit Hefeweizen from the Germany pavilion.
[00:18:17] The Scherferhofer.
[00:18:18] Yeah.
[00:18:18] Scherferhofer.
[00:18:19] So I was like, it's called Scherferhofer.
[00:18:22] And he's, I loved it.
[00:18:23] I wish I could find it.
[00:18:24] And while I was talking to them, I found it and I got total wine and spirits to bring
[00:18:29] them a six pack an hour after they landed.
[00:18:32] And so that was my little gift to them.
[00:18:34] Nice.
[00:18:36] That, that beer is actually really good and it's like two and a half percent.
[00:18:41] So that's an easy drinking beer, but now they're the Rohrbacks are a, um, happy recipients
[00:18:47] of a six pack.
[00:18:48] Uh, compliments of oops, my bad.
[00:18:51] Um, all right.
[00:18:53] So yesterday I got this email I want to read to you.
[00:18:56] This is a listener and I'd like to read this whole thing to you.
[00:18:59] Is this more concierge?
[00:19:00] What's the context here?
[00:19:01] Okay.
[00:19:01] Concierge.
[00:19:02] Uh, good morning, Jimmy.
[00:19:04] That's my name.
[00:19:05] My name is Julie.
[00:19:06] I'm Dan.
[00:19:07] That's Eric.
[00:19:07] And I am a Disneyland adult and in parentheses or senior.
[00:19:12] And my two daughters are also Disneyland fans.
[00:19:14] I am a regular listener to the Supreme Resort along with the hub crawl and other Disney adjacent
[00:19:21] podcasts.
[00:19:22] Ooh, I like that one.
[00:19:24] My adjacent, my other podcast, the ride, for example, my interest really grew during the
[00:20:00] pandemic when I spent a lot of time listening to podcasts.
[00:20:01] I'm a journalist to celebrate my birthday in March and my recent recovery from cancer
[00:20:05] surgery.
[00:20:06] Oh, wow.
[00:20:07] Yesterday, the oncologist shared that I will not need chemotherapy.
[00:20:12] So I am ready to make travel plans.
[00:20:14] Wow.
[00:20:15] Oh, so we heal people is what you're saying.
[00:20:18] Our podcast.
[00:20:19] FDA approved.
[00:20:20] Before she listened to the podcast, cancer.
[00:20:23] After listening, no cancer.
[00:20:25] Glowing review.
[00:20:26] Why didn't she leave a five-star review on that?
[00:20:29] She might've been.
[00:20:30] She might've been one of the...
[00:20:31] I haven't checked.
[00:20:32] Anyway, she gives us details about when she wants to go.
[00:20:35] But you really need to give us a five-star review.
[00:20:38] That's right.
[00:20:39] So we appreciate the support, but it means absolutely nothing without a five-star review.
[00:20:47] Oh, no.
[00:20:49] He doesn't mean that, folks.
[00:20:50] He doesn't mean that.
[00:20:51] I don't.
[00:20:52] Anyway, so then she sends another email after this.
[00:20:55] I could go into detail planning stuff because she's talking about going.
[00:21:00] She wants to go.
[00:21:01] Her daughters will stay with her for a couple of nights.
[00:21:03] One daughter for, you know, this day we want single day.
[00:21:06] I want three days.
[00:21:07] They want two days.
[00:21:08] I want one day for this day, one park for this day, two parks for that day.
[00:21:12] And what I had to explain was Disney does not allow for that.
[00:21:16] You can't just...
[00:21:18] If they're staying with you for one night, they're staying with you for the whole time.
[00:21:22] You want a park hopper for one day?
[00:21:24] You're getting a park hopper the whole time.
[00:21:26] Oh, yeah.
[00:21:27] There's no mix and match here without making five different transactions, which is fine.
[00:21:31] But anyway, that was a fun...
[00:21:33] So then she sends this other email or excuse me, the same email as before, but then she sent pictures in another email.
[00:21:41] So this is...
[00:21:42] I sent you guys an email.
[00:21:43] Don't open it yet.
[00:21:45] But then she says, after I responded, she said...
[00:21:51] Oh, sorry, everybody.
[00:21:54] Thanks for the email back, blah, blah, blah.
[00:21:56] Here's a little fun fact.
[00:21:58] She's a teacher from Washington.
[00:22:00] Most of my teaching career has been at a school in Carnation, Washington.
[00:22:06] Carnation Farms is located nearby in the Valley.
[00:22:09] Oh, wow.
[00:22:10] There on display is one of the historical barns in the Disneyland ice cream truck and photos and memorabilia of Walt Disney and Carnation products in Disneyland.
[00:22:20] Wow.
[00:22:21] The ice cream truck makes an appearance in the 4th of July parade.
[00:22:24] Is that a Bob Gurr vehicle?
[00:22:25] It is, in fact, a Bob Gurr vehicle.
[00:22:27] Yeah, it is.
[00:22:28] Julie.
[00:22:29] And there are four pictures that she sent.
[00:22:31] Don't open them yet because we have a little game to play.
[00:22:34] Oh, no.
[00:22:34] I already had to open it.
[00:22:36] You can open them.
[00:22:37] I'll pretend I didn't.
[00:22:37] So it's Carnation, guys.
[00:22:40] You're familiar with Carnation at Disneyland?
[00:22:42] Mm-hmm.
[00:22:43] Wonderful pictures.
[00:22:44] It's just delightful.
[00:22:45] I'm doing my best at figuring out how to add them to the show notes.
[00:22:48] The show image is going to be the picture that I'm going to describe to everybody.
[00:22:53] This is basically a board with a bunch of stuff.
[00:22:56] There's the Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad ticket book.
[00:22:59] There's a picture of Walt on Main Street having an ice cream.
[00:23:04] But Carnation at Disneyland is like opening day kind of stuff, guys, right?
[00:23:08] Wow.
[00:23:09] Wow.
[00:23:10] And there's a menu that I would like to go through with you guys and play a little bit
[00:23:14] of a menu game.
[00:23:15] All right.
[00:23:16] I have not looked at the prices.
[00:23:17] All right.
[00:23:18] I have a really dumb question, though.
[00:23:20] Are they going to go to the Carnation Cafe when they go?
[00:23:25] We're going to insist.
[00:23:26] Yeah, I think so.
[00:23:27] Probably.
[00:23:28] But she's looking to do some dining.
[00:23:30] You know, I said, I want to do a nice, it's her birthday, post-cancer, et cetera.
[00:23:34] I want to do something nice.
[00:23:35] And I said, just like in the list of top 10, Blue Bayou is like nine.
[00:23:40] Okay.
[00:23:41] Cafe Orleans, you know, the one at DCA, you know, the-
[00:23:47] Nightlight.
[00:23:48] No, the other one.
[00:23:49] Carthay?
[00:23:50] Carthay.
[00:23:51] Yeah.
[00:23:51] Carthay, but not the lounge.
[00:23:53] Like do the restaurant, whatever.
[00:23:54] Oh, yeah.
[00:23:54] For sure.
[00:23:55] I heard the restaurant isn't that great actually anymore.
[00:23:57] I just like the atmosphere.
[00:23:58] It's a nice, fancy place.
[00:23:59] It's just, anyway.
[00:24:00] It's a lot of those.
[00:24:01] It was really good.
[00:24:02] Have you thought about Napa Rose?
[00:24:03] I suggest Napa Rose.
[00:24:04] That was number two.
[00:24:05] Yeah.
[00:24:06] I think it was Cafe Orleans, Napa Rose, Carthay,
[00:24:09] not the lounge.
[00:24:10] And then, anyway.
[00:24:11] She's going to do Carthay, I think.
[00:24:12] Okay.
[00:24:14] Carnation to Disneyland.
[00:24:15] Now, there's ice cream.
[00:24:16] Ladies and gentlemen, there's ice cream,
[00:24:18] features from Frontierland,
[00:24:20] treats from Fantasyland,
[00:24:22] surprises from Tomorrowland,
[00:24:24] imports from Adventureland,
[00:24:26] and suggestions from Main Street.
[00:24:27] There are ice cream themes for all five lands.
[00:24:32] That's all I can remember when this was a thing.
[00:24:35] Okay.
[00:24:35] So, I'm not going to go through all of these,
[00:24:37] but just some examples of suggestions from Maiden Street.
[00:24:41] The Gay 90s Sundays.
[00:24:44] You can get caramel, cherry, or pineapple,
[00:24:47] marshmallow, or chocolate, et cetera.
[00:24:49] Old-fashioned Gibson Girl Parfait is another one.
[00:24:54] Cimarron Sunday.
[00:24:57] Lover's Delight.
[00:24:59] Ooh.
[00:24:59] And then in Adventureland, the Hawaiian Sunday.
[00:25:02] What comes on a Hawaiian Sunday, Dan?
[00:25:04] Pineapple.
[00:25:05] And?
[00:25:06] What are the flavors of ice cream?
[00:25:09] Oh, okay.
[00:25:11] Wait.
[00:25:11] Oh.
[00:25:13] I remember they loved.
[00:25:15] I know.
[00:25:15] I remember they loved pistachio ice cream.
[00:25:18] Okay.
[00:25:19] That's not one of them, but.
[00:25:20] Okay.
[00:25:22] Orange sherbet.
[00:25:23] They don't have coconut ice cream.
[00:25:24] Sorbet.
[00:25:25] Was orange sherbet a thing in the 50s?
[00:25:27] I don't know.
[00:25:28] Okay.
[00:25:28] Vanilla and strawberry ice cream.
[00:25:31] Okay.
[00:25:31] I was right at the first.
[00:25:32] With pineapple.
[00:25:33] Yep.
[00:25:33] There it is.
[00:25:34] Strawberries.
[00:25:35] Coconut.
[00:25:36] And finally, sliced bananas.
[00:25:39] Yep.
[00:25:40] Those are all tropical things.
[00:25:42] Nothing says Hawaii like sliced bananas.
[00:25:45] Most of that works, though.
[00:25:46] I like it.
[00:25:48] Yep.
[00:25:48] Then there's an Amazon special, Tahitian Sunday.
[00:25:51] Okay.
[00:25:52] And then Tomorrowland, there's the 2000 AD special.
[00:25:57] This is the year 2000.
[00:25:58] 2000 AD special.
[00:26:02] We ponder that health foods will never replace this tasty treat.
[00:26:10] A delicious hot fudge sundae.
[00:26:13] With a hamburger.
[00:26:15] With a sundae on top of a hamburger.
[00:26:18] With a something I can't read.
[00:26:22] In 2020.
[00:26:24] Interplanet special.
[00:26:25] Two scoops.
[00:26:26] More like 2000 calories.
[00:26:30] Yeah.
[00:26:32] Interplanet special.
[00:26:33] Two scoops.
[00:26:34] Vanilla ice cream topped with fruit salad, whipped cream, and cherry.
[00:26:38] Okay.
[00:26:39] Dump out that can of fruit salad.
[00:26:42] Like the fruit cocktail.
[00:26:43] That's what I'm thinking.
[00:26:44] That's right.
[00:26:45] Oh, yeah.
[00:26:45] With syrup and all.
[00:26:47] Yeah.
[00:26:48] Interesting.
[00:26:48] Anyway, none of these are like overly differentiated.
[00:26:51] Or whatever.
[00:26:52] But, you know, western frontier land.
[00:26:53] There's a golden west float invigorating orange freeze.
[00:26:57] Santa Fe express.
[00:26:58] Etc.
[00:26:59] Fantasy land has a castle special.
[00:27:01] Whatever.
[00:27:02] Here's what I think is really fascinating about this menu.
[00:27:05] By the way, everything I just mentioned.
[00:27:06] All of those things range between 35 and 75 cents.
[00:27:10] Okay.
[00:27:11] Yep.
[00:27:11] I wanted to give you guys some context for the game we're about to play.
[00:27:15] Okay.
[00:27:16] There are one, two, three, four, five, five menu items for eating at the carnation.
[00:27:26] So not ice cream.
[00:27:30] So there's technically one, two, three, four, five, six, seven items.
[00:27:35] But a couple of them are derivative.
[00:27:37] So I'm going to just make it simple.
[00:27:39] There are five items on this menu.
[00:27:42] Okay.
[00:27:43] Is this the what shouldn't be on the menu game?
[00:27:45] Or is this?
[00:27:46] No, I want you to pick all five.
[00:27:48] Okay.
[00:27:48] And yes, there's one, Dan, that should not be on this menu.
[00:27:51] Okay.
[00:27:51] Okay.
[00:27:52] Oh.
[00:27:52] So pick all five.
[00:27:56] And the ranges are the cheapest is 30 cents.
[00:28:00] Okay.
[00:28:00] The most expensive is 65 cents.
[00:28:03] All right.
[00:28:04] I'm going to go with an easy one.
[00:28:07] Unless, Eric, do you want to start?
[00:28:09] No, go for it.
[00:28:10] Okay.
[00:28:10] Salad.
[00:28:12] Okay.
[00:28:13] Here's the thing that should not be on the menu.
[00:28:16] Tuna salad.
[00:28:17] Oh.
[00:28:17] No, no.
[00:28:18] That should totally be on the menu.
[00:28:19] For the time period, that totally fits.
[00:28:21] Okay.
[00:28:22] So tuna salad is 40 cents.
[00:28:24] Yeah.
[00:28:24] These are sandwiches, by the way.
[00:28:26] Sorry.
[00:28:26] These are sandwiches.
[00:28:27] Oh, they're sandwiches.
[00:28:27] Okay.
[00:28:28] Oh, because there is a salad menu that I'm not talking about.
[00:28:30] Oh, okay.
[00:28:31] I apologize.
[00:28:32] So we're talking about different sandwiches.
[00:28:34] Okay.
[00:28:34] Different sandwiches.
[00:28:34] No, tuna salad sandwiches, totally.
[00:28:37] That totally fits with the time period.
[00:28:40] Chicken of the Sea pirate ship.
[00:28:41] I mean, come on.
[00:28:47] Cottage cheese, by the way.
[00:28:48] Oh, yes.
[00:28:50] Okay.
[00:28:51] Eric, you go.
[00:28:51] What do you think?
[00:28:52] So we got tuna salad.
[00:28:53] Tuna salad.
[00:28:54] Okay.
[00:28:54] Oh, gosh.
[00:28:55] With cottage cheese.
[00:28:55] Oh, garnished with cheese.
[00:28:56] Not on the sandwich.
[00:28:59] No, garnished with.
[00:29:01] Hamburger.
[00:29:02] Hamburger and cheeseburger.
[00:29:04] Yes.
[00:29:04] Okay.
[00:29:05] And that counts as a sandwich?
[00:29:06] I'm counting both.
[00:29:06] Okay.
[00:29:07] That counts as a sandwich.
[00:29:08] Hamburger 50 cents.
[00:29:09] Cheeseburger 60 cents.
[00:29:11] Okay.
[00:29:13] Bologna.
[00:29:14] No bologna.
[00:29:15] Close.
[00:29:16] Okay.
[00:29:16] Another kind of lunch meat.
[00:29:18] Okay.
[00:29:19] Eric, you can take it.
[00:29:21] Salami?
[00:29:22] No, ham.
[00:29:23] Ham.
[00:29:24] You can do ham grilled or plain.
[00:29:26] Oh.
[00:29:26] Or ham and cheese grilled or plain.
[00:29:28] Okay.
[00:29:29] Okay.
[00:29:30] Okay.
[00:29:30] Two more.
[00:29:31] There's two more items.
[00:29:32] Now think typical American.
[00:29:35] Hot dog.
[00:29:36] Main street.
[00:29:36] You had a hot dog.
[00:29:37] Oh, yeah.
[00:29:38] With tasty pickle relish.
[00:29:39] And finally.
[00:29:40] Hot dog.
[00:29:41] Not a sandwich, by the way.
[00:29:42] It's a taco.
[00:29:43] I mean.
[00:29:45] The fifth item on the menu is.
[00:29:49] Chili.
[00:29:51] American cheese.
[00:29:52] Oh, God.
[00:29:53] A cheese sandwich.
[00:29:55] A cheese sandwich.
[00:29:56] Oh, I never would have got there.
[00:29:57] Grilled or plain.
[00:29:58] Plain.
[00:29:59] Oh.
[00:30:00] Plain.
[00:30:02] Okay.
[00:30:03] So.
[00:30:03] Salads cut as cheese.
[00:30:04] Cottage cheese with.
[00:30:05] Cottage cheese with choice.
[00:30:05] Don't you dare put lettuce on that.
[00:30:07] Nope.
[00:30:09] But you get cottage cheese on the side.
[00:30:11] Okay.
[00:30:11] So here are the salads.
[00:30:12] Cottage cheese with choice of pineapple, pears, or peaches.
[00:30:15] A fruit bowl with sherbet, banana, and whipped cream.
[00:30:18] So far, we have not talked about lettuce at all in these salads.
[00:30:22] Third item is chef salad with ham and cheese.
[00:30:25] Fourth is a crisp green salad.
[00:30:26] Soup of the day is a specialty.
[00:30:28] Chili and beans.
[00:30:29] A cheeseburger size.
[00:30:31] That's an open-faced chili burger.
[00:30:32] 75 cents.
[00:30:33] There's pies and cakes.
[00:30:34] Tanks.
[00:30:34] Juices.
[00:30:35] Now, here is the beverage list.
[00:30:38] This is 1955, everybody.
[00:30:40] Milk.
[00:30:41] Milk.
[00:30:42] Milk is number one.
[00:30:43] Yeah.
[00:30:44] On the beverage list.
[00:30:45] You can get a third quart of milk.
[00:30:47] A third quart?
[00:30:49] Third quart of milk for 15 cents.
[00:30:51] Item number two related to milk.
[00:30:53] Nice refreshing milk.
[00:30:55] Chocolate milk.
[00:30:56] No, no, no, Dan.
[00:30:57] Milk shake.
[00:30:58] Chocolate drink.
[00:30:58] Oh, God.
[00:30:59] Oh, that was an actual reaction.
[00:31:03] Oh, my God.
[00:31:04] But before we get to chocolate drink, which is the third item.
[00:31:08] Related to milk.
[00:31:08] It's like a Yoo-Hoo.
[00:31:09] Related to milk that you can drink.
[00:31:11] Also a third quart.
[00:31:13] Also 15 cents.
[00:31:14] Has milk in the title.
[00:31:16] Unpasteurized.
[00:31:18] Butter milk.
[00:31:19] Oh, no.
[00:31:20] Oh.
[00:31:20] Butter milk.
[00:31:21] Butter milk.
[00:31:23] On Main Street.
[00:31:25] Milk.
[00:31:26] Third quart, 15 cents.
[00:31:27] Butter milk.
[00:31:28] Third quart, 15 cents.
[00:31:29] Chocolate drink.
[00:31:30] Third quart, 15 cents.
[00:31:32] Coffee or tea.
[00:31:33] Iced tea.
[00:31:34] Middle of August.
[00:31:35] And then you can get Coca-Cola.
[00:31:36] Yeah.
[00:31:37] And Pepsi-Cola.
[00:31:39] Oh, my God.
[00:31:40] So much freedom.
[00:31:41] And then sarsaparilla.
[00:31:43] Uh-huh.
[00:31:44] And then phosphate.
[00:31:45] Phosphate.
[00:31:46] You can get a phosphate?
[00:31:49] Phosphate.
[00:31:50] For 10 cents, you can get cherry or lemon.
[00:31:52] Now, I mentioned sarsaparilla.
[00:31:53] You're like, oh, that must be root beer.
[00:31:54] No, no, no.
[00:31:55] No, it's not.
[00:31:56] Root beer is also on the menu.
[00:31:57] No, sarsaparilla is not root beer.
[00:31:59] Yeah.
[00:32:00] Oh, my God.
[00:32:01] I loved this menu.
[00:32:02] I know that's not why she sent it to me, but I spent so much time with this menu.
[00:32:07] And then milk news.
[00:32:09] Published in America's fastest growing west.
[00:32:11] 1842.
[00:32:12] That's how many milk distributors.
[00:32:14] 380.
[00:32:15] Ice cream wholesalers.
[00:32:16] We do need more.
[00:32:17] 309 cheese factories.
[00:32:18] We need a designated segment to milk news on this show.
[00:32:21] I know.
[00:32:22] I totally did research.
[00:32:24] This was July 29th, 1955.
[00:32:27] Yearly milk production, 13 billion pounds.
[00:32:32] Oh, my God.
[00:32:33] Wow.
[00:32:33] So many.
[00:32:34] Oh, my God.
[00:32:34] I loved this picture.
[00:32:36] It's so wonderful.
[00:32:37] I asked her if I could share.
[00:32:38] She said yes.
[00:32:39] Anyway, that is concierge.
[00:32:41] That is our...
[00:32:42] Do you guys have any...
[00:32:43] Now you can open up the email I sent you with all the pictures.
[00:32:46] In milk news, my...
[00:32:48] This is old news, but my family loves this story where my grandfather went to...
[00:32:54] Oh, was it Panera or the Corner Bakery?
[00:32:57] I think it was Corner Bakery.
[00:32:59] And my sisters were with and he wanted...
[00:33:02] Tomato, tomato.
[00:33:03] Yeah, pretty much.
[00:33:04] Yeah.
[00:33:04] And they were getting lunch or something and he asked for a glass of milk and they said,
[00:33:08] Wait, what?
[00:33:09] And he ended up convincing them to give him a pint of milk.
[00:33:14] A pint glass full of milk.
[00:33:16] Yeah.
[00:33:17] And he drank the whole thing down.
[00:33:19] I mean, that was the thing you did.
[00:33:19] Yeah.
[00:33:20] That's where most Americans get their calcium.
[00:33:22] I even drank milk through college.
[00:33:24] I would get good milk and drink that through college and then eventually didn't.
[00:33:31] I don't know why I stopped drinking milk.
[00:33:33] Paging Dr. Freud.
[00:33:34] How else are we going to...
[00:33:36] Oh, my.
[00:33:37] How else are we going to subsidize our dairy?
[00:33:39] Sorry.
[00:33:40] I mean...
[00:33:41] Whoa.
[00:33:41] Anyway, thank you for indulging me on that.
[00:33:45] Almost slipped back into character there.
[00:33:48] I hate it.
[00:33:49] I wanted to stop you.
[00:33:50] Okay.
[00:33:50] Thank you.
[00:33:51] Okay.
[00:33:51] So let us get to moderate hotels.
[00:33:54] Hey, A.
[00:33:55] Jimmy, do you have any other diversions for us today that aren't hotels?
[00:33:59] As a matter of fact, there's a podcast, ladies and gentlemen.
[00:34:04] Yeah.
[00:34:04] It's called Podcast The Ride.
[00:34:07] Oh.
[00:34:07] It was an inspiration for this podcast, this very podcast.
[00:34:11] There was an episode where they talked about Sunny Eclipse, which is a robot in a restaurant
[00:34:16] in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom.
[00:34:18] They spoke about that thing for over two hours.
[00:34:21] I was entertained the entire time.
[00:34:22] And I thought, you know what?
[00:34:24] There's an audience for this nonsense.
[00:34:26] One of the inspirations...
[00:34:27] We've talked about their show quite a bit on this show.
[00:34:29] Oh, yeah.
[00:34:29] Yeah.
[00:34:30] And we've talked about Sunny Eclipse a fair amount on this show.
[00:34:32] Sure.
[00:34:33] So in the podcast world, there are times where one podcast will borrow or be inspired by the
[00:34:42] other, et cetera, et cetera.
[00:34:43] I mentioned where I was inspired by them to start this show.
[00:34:47] And then sometimes in the zeitgeist, there's just podcasts seem to talk about the same subject
[00:34:51] from time to time.
[00:34:53] And it's coincidence a lot of times.
[00:34:54] Sometimes it's in the news and so everybody talks about it.
[00:34:57] Other times it's coincidence.
[00:34:59] There was a couple of incidents that I want to have Eric and Dan talk about that seem a
[00:35:04] little bit more than coincidence.
[00:35:07] Right.
[00:35:08] Yeah.
[00:35:08] No one's in trouble, but we might need to spank our audience in the future if these things
[00:35:15] continue.
[00:35:16] Don't spank the audience.
[00:35:18] They're great.
[00:35:20] Like a fun one.
[00:35:22] Yeah.
[00:35:22] Everybody gets pleasure.
[00:35:23] And by spankings, I just mean maybe more Asher.
[00:35:27] Oh, no.
[00:35:28] He's bad.
[00:35:28] That is a spanking.
[00:35:30] Christmas break.
[00:35:30] It's an audible spanking.
[00:35:32] Years later, he's 11 now.
[00:35:34] Right.
[00:35:35] So I think, Eric, you have noticed that there have been some suggestions on the Patreon that
[00:35:44] from the audience that can sort of suspiciously line up with things that we've done on this
[00:35:49] show.
[00:35:51] Yeah.
[00:35:51] I mean, I've been I ever since Jimmy introduced me to the show, I've been listening to the
[00:35:57] show and I enjoy podcast the ride.
[00:35:58] I'm a patron subscriber.
[00:36:01] And it's every once in a while.
[00:36:02] There are things that line up that are a little interesting and it's not necessarily the confluence
[00:36:08] of random Disney events like, hey, everybody, let's all talk about this this week.
[00:36:15] Let's all talk about it.
[00:36:16] Well, right now, everybody's talking about Muppets.
[00:36:18] Of course.
[00:36:19] There have been some times where in Club 3, they're fan driven.
[00:36:23] Yeah.
[00:36:23] It's one of their Patreon tiers where the fans choose what the next episode is going to be.
[00:36:28] And I've seen some things come up multiple times.
[00:36:32] Very coincidentally, but maybe right after we do an episode.
[00:36:37] So right after we did our toad episode last Halloween, not this Halloween, totens came up
[00:36:43] on their show.
[00:36:43] And I'm like, oh, that's that's interesting.
[00:36:45] It stands to reason that there is some overlap in the listenership.
[00:36:49] Right.
[00:36:49] And that's not a problem.
[00:36:50] We encourage that.
[00:36:51] We've even told you to listen to their show on this show.
[00:36:54] This isn't.
[00:36:55] Of course.
[00:36:55] Yes.
[00:36:55] And I also can understand the energy if this is what's happening.
[00:37:00] I can understand.
[00:37:01] Maybe we're paranoid, but we're not.
[00:37:05] Maybe I can understand the idea that, you know, hey, I heard these podcast friends talk
[00:37:12] about this thing.
[00:37:14] And I'd really like to now hear these podcast friends talk about the same thing.
[00:37:18] And surely they know each other.
[00:37:21] Surely all the podcasts are on the same level.
[00:37:26] You know, all of that.
[00:37:27] I remember a time when Jimmy thought that the Ears Up crew were all celebrities and that
[00:37:32] they had millions of listeners.
[00:37:34] Right.
[00:37:34] Which, of course, they are.
[00:37:35] Yes.
[00:37:37] So they sponsor the show.
[00:37:38] Or so there's that.
[00:37:40] And it also, there might be a feeling of like, hey, let me help out this perceivably smaller
[00:37:46] podcast by giving, by suggesting that they, you know, share this idea with this bigger podcast,
[00:37:53] which is fine if that's what's happening.
[00:37:55] But give us some credit.
[00:37:58] That's it.
[00:37:59] So recently we did a whole three-part series on value hotels and it was suggested in their
[00:38:04] Reddit or whatever that they do value hotels.
[00:38:07] And that became the next episode.
[00:38:08] Right.
[00:38:09] So to Dan's point.
[00:38:10] We are smaller than them is what I'm trying to communicate.
[00:38:13] Yeah.
[00:38:13] And, you know, we have a great following.
[00:38:16] And, you know, in the, I don't know, like tens of thousands of downloads a year, it's good.
[00:38:22] People listen.
[00:38:24] Right.
[00:38:24] But theirs is, you know, significantly higher.
[00:38:26] We like them.
[00:38:27] We'd love to collaborate with them.
[00:38:29] And so if you do enjoy a topic that we cover and you want to hear them and you suggest it
[00:38:33] to them, please mention where you got the idea.
[00:38:37] That's it.
[00:38:37] I think that's the ask.
[00:38:38] Yeah.
[00:38:39] If that's what's going on.
[00:38:40] Keep sharing the information.
[00:38:40] Keep sharing the ideas.
[00:38:42] We're not asking you not to.
[00:38:43] We're just saying, if you're trying to help, this is how you can help.
[00:38:46] And if you're not trying to help, please stop.
[00:38:51] And if you do, then a five-star review, the end.
[00:38:54] Yeah.
[00:38:56] Your attention, please.
[00:38:59] Okay.
[00:39:00] And maybe we are paranoid.
[00:39:02] Maybe.
[00:39:03] Let us talk about moderate hotels.
[00:39:05] Hey, Jimmy.
[00:39:06] At the risk of tapping the well, do you have any other topics we can distract with?
[00:39:10] Because, you know, I love moderate hotels, but, you know.
[00:39:13] I do, too.
[00:39:14] I was actually looking through my Google Docs and I found an old game that I made.
[00:39:21] Mind you, I was in character when I made this.
[00:39:24] Of course.
[00:39:25] New listeners, this is the real Dan you're listening to, but for four years.
[00:39:30] Yes.
[00:39:30] Since the election, I have decided that it's now safe for me to reveal my true identity,
[00:39:36] which is a freedom-loving patriot.
[00:39:39] And unlike the previous self, who was an annoying, you know, libbed up, leftist, woke.
[00:39:47] Yeah.
[00:39:47] I can't.
[00:39:48] And I'm a little ashamed of some of this, but I've also punched it up with my new freedom.
[00:39:55] So we can play the game.
[00:39:57] It's called Anaheim Hotbed of Crime or Normal Neoliberal Dystopian Hellscape.
[00:40:09] So here's the game.
[00:40:11] Is Anaheim a treasure map of crime and poverty or just the perfect place to park your churrosa
[00:40:17] cravings?
[00:40:17] Let's find out.
[00:40:19] So these are true or false questions, and I'm going to provide some context after the
[00:40:22] fact.
[00:40:23] And this relates to what we've been talking about relating to the walkability of certain
[00:40:27] areas.
[00:40:28] Anaheim can have the reputation of being a little bit scary, and we're going to uncover whether
[00:40:33] or not it actually should be.
[00:40:34] Question number one, I'm going to give this one to Jimmy.
[00:40:36] Uh, Anaheim's violent crime rate is higher than the national average.
[00:40:40] True or false?
[00:40:42] False.
[00:40:43] That is correct.
[00:40:44] Yes.
[00:40:46] Uh, to Anaheim, uh, is, uh, the crime is 3.8 per 1,000 residents.
[00:40:52] National average is four per 1,000 residents.
[00:40:54] Turns out Anaheim isn't a real life tower of terror.
[00:40:57] You're safer here than in most places.
[00:40:59] And let's be honest, the scariest thing you'll encounter is a stroller derby at park closing
[00:41:04] time.
[00:41:05] Question two is for Eric.
[00:41:07] Anaheim's property crime rate is higher than the national average.
[00:41:10] Uh, I'm going to, I'm going to say false.
[00:41:13] That's the answer's true.
[00:41:16] Anaheim 25 per 1,000 residents.
[00:41:18] National average 19 per 1,000 residents.
[00:41:21] Property crime isn't the pirates of the Caribbean of Anaheim.
[00:41:24] There's a little danger, a lot of chaos, and everyone's trying to walk off with your loot.
[00:41:29] Just think of it as an immersive experience in Disney adjacent living.
[00:41:34] Okay.
[00:41:35] Question number three.
[00:41:36] This is for Jimmy.
[00:41:37] Uh, most violent crimes in Anaheim happen in residential areas, not tourist zones.
[00:41:41] True or false?
[00:41:42] False.
[00:41:43] That's true.
[00:41:43] Resort, resort district violent crime rate is low.
[00:41:47] Most violent crime occurs in lower income residential neighborhoods.
[00:41:50] See the magic bubble around the resort district is working.
[00:41:53] It's like Sleeping Beauty's castle, except instead of the dragon, locals get systemic neglect.
[00:41:58] Eric.
[00:41:59] Number four is true or false.
[00:42:01] Anaheim's police department spends significantly more per capita than their national average.
[00:42:05] True.
[00:42:06] That's true.
[00:42:07] Anaheim police spending per resident is $5,500 per year.
[00:42:12] Rather, national average is $360 per year.
[00:42:14] Anaheim is kingdom come prepared.
[00:42:17] With spending this high, you'd think every officer gets their own dumbo to ride around town.
[00:42:23] Jimmy, question five to our false.
[00:42:25] Anaheim's homelessness rate is higher than Los Angeles per capita.
[00:42:30] True.
[00:42:31] False.
[00:42:31] Anaheim's unsheltered population is 1,100 residents in 2023, where Los Angeles had 70,000 plus unhoused individuals.
[00:42:42] Anaheim's homelessness crisis is more of a mater's junkyard jamboree.
[00:42:46] Smaller, but still spitting out of control.
[00:42:49] Oh my God.
[00:42:50] Wait, real quick.
[00:42:51] Let's take a little intermission here.
[00:42:54] Yeah.
[00:42:54] So homelessness is lower than average or lower than LA.
[00:42:59] Yes.
[00:43:00] Violent crime is less likely in Anaheim resort area than it would be in the neighborhoods.
[00:43:07] Yes.
[00:43:08] And the crime level is lower.
[00:43:10] Crime level is lower than the national average.
[00:43:12] So Anaheim is, so far, pretty safe.
[00:43:17] I'd say so.
[00:43:18] Yeah.
[00:43:18] Yeah.
[00:43:18] Or it's also, it's at least as safe as the rest of the, and I'm just channeling the character who wrote this dystopian neoliberal hellscape that we all live in.
[00:43:30] That's right.
[00:43:30] Okay.
[00:43:31] Okay.
[00:43:31] So question number six, who went last again?
[00:43:34] Was it Eric?
[00:43:35] I think I went last.
[00:43:36] Go ahead.
[00:43:37] So Eric, question number six, tourists experience crime less often than locals in Anaheim.
[00:43:41] True or false?
[00:43:44] True.
[00:43:45] That's correct.
[00:43:46] It's true.
[00:43:47] Locals are disproportionately affected by poverty and violent crimes.
[00:43:51] Anaheim, where tourists get the happiest place on earth and locals get, well, let's just say it's more of a Mr. Toad's wild ride.
[00:43:59] Jimmy, question seven.
[00:44:01] True or false?
[00:44:01] Anaheim has a higher Gini Index score, that's income inequality, than the national average.
[00:44:08] Gini Index?
[00:44:09] This isn't related to the app.
[00:44:11] It's income inequality, that's the index.
[00:44:13] Income inequality.
[00:44:15] Repeat the question, please.
[00:44:16] Anaheim has a higher Gini Index score than the national average.
[00:44:22] False.
[00:44:23] That's true.
[00:44:24] Anaheim's income inequality surpasses the national average.
[00:44:27] Anaheim's wealth is so big, it's basically the expedition Everest of inequality.
[00:44:33] Eric, Anaheim's per capita police force is below the Southern California average.
[00:44:38] True or false?
[00:44:40] False.
[00:44:40] That's correct, it's false.
[00:44:41] Anaheim has 2.3 officers per 1,000 residents, and SoCal averages two officers per 1,000 residents.
[00:44:50] Anaheim isn't just the Incredibles, it's also the pre-policeables.
[00:44:54] The Incredibles, with forces this big, you'd think they'd have their own Pixar Pier.
[00:45:02] Question number nine, this is for Jimmy.
[00:45:03] Anaheim spins more on Disneyland adjacent infrastructure than on public transit.
[00:45:06] True or false?
[00:45:08] True.
[00:45:08] That's correct, it's true.
[00:45:10] Disney's infrastructure investments are $200 million as of 2019, whereas their transit system budget was $40 million annually.
[00:45:20] Why fund a boring old bus stop when you can fund Radiator Springs Racers?
[00:45:24] Disney roads are paved with gold, or at least your tax dollars.
[00:45:27] But don't worry, Pelic Transit is just a wish upon a star away.
[00:45:31] Can I take another pause here?
[00:45:33] Yes.
[00:45:33] So in general, Anaheim is safer than we think.
[00:45:37] Yes, that's correct.
[00:45:39] They don't have a lot of, what was the thing that I got wrong?
[00:45:44] There was one thing that was negative to Anaheim.
[00:45:46] Oh, the income inequality is poor.
[00:45:50] Yeah, it's higher.
[00:45:51] Meaning that there's more rich people, whatever.
[00:45:53] Right.
[00:45:55] But in general, Anaheim is safer than we think.
[00:45:57] And I think the catalyst for this was we've been talking a lot about art and walking and should you art, should you not.
[00:46:04] Art is public transit, right?
[00:46:08] That's correct.
[00:46:09] So Disneyland's investments or the money that Anaheim spends on Disneyland is higher than it spends on art, for example.
[00:46:16] True.
[00:46:17] But if you decide to walk, you're safer to walk from your hotel to Disneyland than you would be from your hotel to, let's say, Staples Center or LA Live.
[00:46:26] Probably.
[00:46:26] And I think the point is that you're safer to walk from your hotel to Disneyland than you would be to walk from, like, if you live in a major city, your home to the local Target.
[00:46:37] Yeah, that's what I'm, yeah, that's what I was getting at with the LA Live thing.
[00:46:40] Okay, continue.
[00:46:41] Okay.
[00:46:43] Last couple questions.
[00:46:44] This is for, was it, it was Eric, right?
[00:46:47] Sure.
[00:46:48] It was Eric, I think.
[00:46:48] Okay.
[00:46:50] Anaheim's income inequality is worse than the national average, but not by much.
[00:46:53] True or false?
[00:46:56] True.
[00:46:57] Trick question.
[00:46:58] Anaheim has a significantly higher geniandex store than the U.S. average.
[00:47:03] Okay.
[00:47:04] Question number 11.
[00:47:05] This is for Jimmy.
[00:47:07] Excuse me.
[00:47:07] Anaheim is a crime-ridden hotbed of poverty and homelessness.
[00:47:11] True or false?
[00:47:11] I mean, clearly it's false.
[00:47:13] It's false.
[00:47:13] Anaheim crime rate stats and homelessness rates are consistent with broader urban areas in the U.S.
[00:47:18] Anaheim isn't a crime bearer.
[00:47:20] It's just a regular old Tomorrowland of systemic failings.
[00:47:24] Eric, the biggest danger in Anaheim is systemic inequality, not crime.
[00:47:28] I guess true.
[00:47:30] That's true.
[00:47:31] Turns out Anaheim's danger isn't Jafar level.
[00:47:33] It's more like the Prince John of Robin Hood.
[00:47:36] Right?
[00:47:37] So Anaheim isn't a hotbed of crime.
[00:47:39] It's just a regular neoliberal dystopia with trolls and fireworks to distract you from everything.
[00:47:45] Next up, our bonus round.
[00:47:46] What is social murder?
[00:47:47] Spoiler alert.
[00:47:48] It's not a Disney movie, but it's a lot scarier.
[00:47:51] Here we go.
[00:47:52] This is for Jimmy.
[00:47:53] We're going to talk about it.
[00:47:55] So I'm going to give you scenarios.
[00:47:56] This will be either it is random crime or it is the system causing people to perish.
[00:48:03] Random crime or system?
[00:48:05] Yes.
[00:48:07] Question one.
[00:48:07] A teenager brings a firearm to a high school and injures multiple classmates.
[00:48:11] System.
[00:48:13] Random crime.
[00:48:14] Oh, no.
[00:48:14] Somebody thought Toy Story Mania was real life.
[00:48:16] Sure, this isn't scary, but thankfully it's not an everyday thing.
[00:48:19] Question two for Eric.
[00:48:20] This is random crime or systemic.
[00:48:23] A gun manufacturer lobbies against gun control measures despite knowing its weapons are used in mass shootings.
[00:48:30] Ooh, ooh, system.
[00:48:32] That's correct.
[00:48:33] Gun manufacturers like Remington actively marketed semi-automatic rifles to young men despite their use in shootings.
[00:48:39] Wow, talk about a big splash mountain drop except there.
[00:48:41] The splash is, well, we'll spare the details.
[00:48:44] Question three.
[00:48:44] Jimmy.
[00:48:45] Tiana's by your adventure drop.
[00:48:47] A man robs a grocery store at gunpoint for baby formula.
[00:48:52] Systemic.
[00:48:52] Random crime.
[00:48:54] Talk about Desperate Dad, the ride.
[00:48:55] Sure, it's not great to steal, but hey, baby formula shortages are the real villain here.
[00:49:01] Eric, baby dies because a formula company cut safety measures leading to contaminated products.
[00:49:07] Ooh, system.
[00:49:08] That's correct.
[00:49:09] Abbott Nutrition's Michigan plant was linked to formula contamination resulting in a national shortage of at least two infant deaths in 2022.
[00:49:20] Let's move on to our final bonus round.
[00:49:24] The Nirenberg defense, question mark.
[00:49:26] Here's the premise.
[00:49:27] Consistency.
[00:49:28] You must decide whether systemic harm caused by corporate or government decisions can be morally excused under the guise of just doing their job or if they are just following the money.
[00:49:37] Jimmy.
[00:49:37] Doing the job or following the money?
[00:49:39] Yes.
[00:49:40] Okay.
[00:49:41] Doing well, doing their job or making a good business decision, I suspect, because it's both in these cases.
[00:49:48] Okay.
[00:49:49] Jimmy, a CEO lays off 11,000 employees while the company reports record profits.
[00:49:54] Is that Nirenberg defense or corporate genius?
[00:49:57] Nirenberg.
[00:49:58] Corporate genius.
[00:49:59] In 2022, Meta laid off 11,000 employees while reporting over $23 billion in quarterly revenue.
[00:50:09] Talk about getting the genie back in the bottle.
[00:50:12] Eric, a pharmaceutical company falsifies test data to push a dangerous drug to market leading to thousands of deaths.
[00:50:18] Nirenberg defense or bold innovation?
[00:50:21] Oh, bold.
[00:50:24] Correct.
[00:50:25] But in this case, it's Nirenberg defense.
[00:50:27] And to the 2000s, Merck's painkiller, Vioxx, was linked to over 60,000 deaths due to heart attacks and strokes, despite evidence the company knew the risks.
[00:50:37] Jimmy, local government clears a homeless encampment without providing alternative housing, citing aesthetic improvements as the reason.
[00:50:43] Nirenberg defense or creative problem solving?
[00:50:46] Creative problem solving.
[00:50:47] Nirenberg defense.
[00:50:48] In 2021, cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco spent millions on encampment suites, leaving un-
[00:50:53] leaving unhoused individuals with no alternatives and increasing mortality rates.
[00:50:58] Let's not continue because it's depressing.
[00:51:00] However, I do have a fun song.
[00:51:02] People like fun songs.
[00:51:03] This is a new song from our AI, Asher's Good Time Jamboree.
[00:51:11] This is the name of the band now.
[00:51:14] Relating to the now walkability of Anaheim Streets.
[00:51:21] And I'm sorry, everybody, for sharing those leftist ideas.
[00:51:26] I promise I'm real me now.
[00:51:29] You will get no more of that.
[00:51:30] He's recovering.
[00:51:32] Okay.
[00:51:32] Here we go.
[00:54:18] Did I hear?
[00:54:20] By the way, lovely.
[00:54:22] I don't remember no doubt recording that.
[00:54:26] Did I hear smells better than manholes and coke?
[00:54:31] I believe, I don't remember.
[00:54:33] I think it's coal.
[00:54:34] Manholes and coal.
[00:54:35] Okay.
[00:54:36] That's good.
[00:54:37] So Eric has said, Eric stepped away from the microphone.
[00:54:40] So we're just going to go ahead and start the hotels, I think.
[00:54:44] Yeah.
[00:54:44] Because he's not here to distract us.
[00:54:45] Oh, no.
[00:54:46] Oh, sorry.
[00:54:47] I mean, the song said we have to.
[00:54:50] That's true.
[00:54:50] I suppose.
[00:54:51] Sorry.
[00:54:51] The song has spoken.
[00:54:53] Okay.
[00:54:53] We're going to continue our list with the Courtyard Marriott Anaheim Resort Convention Center.
[00:55:00] Sorry.
[00:55:01] I just really find it funny.
[00:55:03] We're just going right into this.
[00:55:05] Well, Eric wasn't here to stop us.
[00:55:06] Yeah, no.
[00:55:08] Oh, no.
[00:55:10] It's all my fault.
[00:55:11] I'm sorry, listeners.
[00:55:13] Okay.
[00:55:14] So if you wanted a standard package rate, we talked about $1,267 for two nights, two day
[00:55:22] park opera courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Resort Convention Center.
[00:55:27] This is located adjacent to the convention center.
[00:55:31] Oh, yeah.
[00:55:32] We stayed there.
[00:55:33] What's that?
[00:55:33] No, we didn't stay there.
[00:55:35] No, we did not.
[00:55:37] We stayed at the residence inn.
[00:55:38] Right.
[00:55:39] That's where I had COVID.
[00:55:41] Okay.
[00:55:42] That was on Catella.
[00:55:43] So this is a couple blocks down.
[00:55:44] It's kind of behind the Anaheim Marriott, which will be a future episode.
[00:55:49] The Courtyard.
[00:55:51] Dan, tell us about the Courtyard.
[00:55:54] The Courtyard by Marriott is, let's see, it's got, it was established in the early 2000s.
[00:56:00] It caters to both business travelers and those attending, going to Disneyland.
[00:56:07] There's got an outdoor pool, an oracle, on-site restaurant serving breakfast dinner.
[00:56:11] They got a fitness center, business center, got free Wi-Fi.
[00:56:13] Obviously, I have black and white TVs because it doesn't say otherwise.
[00:56:16] You got to pay for parking.
[00:56:19] We got standard rooms, rooms with suites or separate living areas.
[00:56:26] According to the reviews, visitors like the hotel's proximity to the convention center in Disneyland.
[00:56:32] It's clean, according to them.
[00:56:34] It's located, it's kind of on the outer realm of walkability, I think, just by my own estimation.
[00:56:44] However, it is also one of those that you might be better off just walking to the toy store parking because that's closer.
[00:56:52] It's like across the street-ish.
[00:56:54] Yeah.
[00:56:55] Your art stop is going to be, if you decide to take it, it's going to be the harbor line in front of the Doubletree.
[00:57:02] You are right behind Ruth's Chris, so if you like the smell of steak invading your life always.
[00:57:09] Always.
[00:57:10] Then this is the place for you.
[00:57:12] It's also in that kind of, it's not fully in the depressing corporate area, but it's kind of there.
[00:57:21] Yeah, it's close enough.
[00:57:23] I've been over there, okay.
[00:57:25] There's a neighborhood right next to it.
[00:57:29] Right.
[00:57:30] Not for long.
[00:57:32] But anyway.
[00:57:39] Oh, happy hearts preschool and daycare is not far away.
[00:57:45] It looks like a home-based business.
[00:57:49] Five stars from one user on Google, so make of that what you will.
[00:57:55] Yeah, I mean, it's a standard courtyard.
[00:57:57] There's the bistro.
[00:57:58] They've got, you know, buy breakfast and dinner and there's a bar and whatnot.
[00:58:03] They do have wake-up calls.
[00:58:06] Oh, I feel like in this area of pricing, it's almost like you may as well go up or down in terms of price.
[00:58:17] You know, like you may as well pay less to have, to pay less, right?
[00:58:24] Yeah.
[00:58:25] Or, and be in an area that's kind of comparable or just bite the bullet, pay a little bit more, and get a more interesting place to stay at.
[00:58:33] Yeah, kind of the previous six hotels we just talked about.
[00:58:37] May as well just stay there because it's roughly as convenient.
[00:58:40] Right.
[00:58:40] Just pick one of those.
[00:58:41] Yeah.
[00:58:42] I mean, unless you're going for a convention and you're going to tolerate your family going to Disneyland and you're going to wear one of those shirts about how it's the most expensive day ever.
[00:58:50] That's right.
[00:58:50] In that case, I mean, this place could be free.
[00:58:53] It's beautiful, by the way.
[00:58:53] Yeah.
[00:58:54] Or, you know, you're like me and you're just a loyalist and you get your points.
[00:58:57] By the way, I was at Disneyland.
[00:58:59] This is going to sound like I'm like testing out bits for my tight five, but this is true.
[00:59:05] I was at Disneyland a couple weekends ago and I saw these two dudes with those most expensive day ever shirts wearing them.
[00:59:14] And I thought like, you know how you can make it less expensive?
[00:59:19] Just don't go.
[00:59:21] Just stay home.
[00:59:21] Don't buy those shirts because you spent extra money.
[00:59:23] Yeah.
[00:59:24] But like, I mean, if you're going to wear a shirt that's like visually bitching about the money you spent for like your family to be here, just go.
[00:59:33] Just send them.
[00:59:34] Don't.
[00:59:35] You don't have to go.
[00:59:36] That's a good point.
[00:59:37] And be that person who's like, guess I'll go in the damn tiki room.
[00:59:41] It's not even on a ride.
[00:59:43] That's a good point.
[00:59:43] My family.
[00:59:43] And what you're doing with the people you're with is you're basically just permanently, perpetually complaining about something they're clearly excited about.
[00:59:51] Right.
[00:59:52] And it's, it is the, it's the most.
[00:59:54] It's like an I'm with stupid t-shirt.
[00:59:55] Yeah.
[00:59:55] It's the, it's the most constant passive aggressive move that you can make.
[00:59:59] Yeah.
[00:59:59] Yeah.
[01:00:00] That's not a passive anymore.
[01:00:01] Yeah.
[01:00:02] We've upgraded.
[01:00:04] So we're going to move on to the Hotel Lulu, which is a best Western premier collection hotel, effectively in the Toy Story parking lot.
[01:00:14] Yeah.
[01:00:15] May as well be.
[01:00:16] Yeah.
[01:00:16] Well, that's fair.
[01:00:17] And it's the best kind of Western, right?
[01:00:19] That's right.
[01:00:19] And it's right near the Walgreens, just behind the Hyatt house.
[01:00:25] It's, it's also by the dinner, the murder theater, right?
[01:00:31] Isn't it in there?
[01:00:32] It's right next to IHOP.
[01:00:34] Yeah.
[01:00:35] That's not the murder theater.
[01:00:36] The murder theater's in there somewhere nearby.
[01:00:39] I think it was.
[01:00:40] Yeah.
[01:00:41] I think you're right.
[01:00:41] Anyway.
[01:00:42] So are we doing the murder theater someday or are we going to be in there?
[01:00:45] Without a doubt.
[01:00:45] Yes.
[01:00:46] We have to do it first, but they're moving.
[01:00:50] Okay.
[01:00:50] So yeah, it's on Harbor Boulevard, just less than a block away from Catella.
[01:00:55] And it's a very convenient location for sure.
[01:00:59] It is.
[01:01:00] Let's see.
[01:01:01] What do we have?
[01:01:02] We have, even though I am personally, the IHOP is dead to me and it always has been because
[01:01:11] it replaced Haunts the House and I'll never forgive it.
[01:01:13] You are allowed as a listener to go there.
[01:01:17] Also, there's an art stop.
[01:01:19] Do you know what they have at IHOP?
[01:01:21] Are you going to review the menu?
[01:01:23] No.
[01:01:23] No.
[01:01:23] Okay.
[01:01:24] They have Cinnabon pancakes.
[01:01:25] Do they have buttermilk?
[01:01:26] Oh, they have Cinnabon pancakes.
[01:01:28] They have Cinnabon pancakes.
[01:01:28] I really shouldn't be doing this.
[01:01:30] Do you like Cinnabon?
[01:01:31] IHOP has Cinnabon pancakes, Dan.
[01:01:34] Yeah.
[01:01:35] Sometimes.
[01:01:36] Anyway, go ahead.
[01:01:36] So right outside of the Hotel Lulu, there is a art bus stop.
[01:01:43] It's the Grand Plaza line.
[01:01:44] It's one of the last stops, if not the last stop on that route.
[01:01:50] So good news is it won't be long.
[01:01:55] Bad news is you might not get a seat.
[01:01:59] Also, it is – I mean, even I, and I'm profoundly lazy when I'm on vacation, I would do that walk.
[01:02:06] So it's not – I wouldn't – this is one of those walk there, maybe take the art back.
[01:02:12] But the art – actually, the art back, I would recommend if you're looking for recommendations, taking the – oh, it doesn't stop there anymore.
[01:02:22] There is a line that stops – I would take the line that – I would take the Grand Plaza line, but I would get off at the CVS or, yes, the CVS on Harbor and Catella and then just like cross the street and go.
[01:02:41] Because otherwise, you're going to have to go on the whole route.
[01:02:45] But honestly, you just walk to the Toy Story parking lot.
[01:02:48] It's right there.
[01:02:50] Unfortunately, you can't hop the fence.
[01:02:51] It's – I'm sure that they have snipers on the roof that will keep you from doing that.
[01:02:55] It's just that makes the most sense now that I've been able to be free now.
[01:03:02] Let's see.
[01:03:03] Let's look at what they're saying about the Hotel Lulu.
[01:03:05] It says right at their doorstep.
[01:03:08] From Hotel Lulu's website, step into the fun and excitement of California, adjacent to Disneyland, and the exciting convention center, perfect for combining family fun with special events.
[01:03:19] Getting around is a breeze with a convenient Anaheim Rapid Transit art trolley right at our doorstop – doorstep.
[01:03:26] Yeah, yeah.
[01:03:27] Explore nearby family-friendly spots like Anaheim Garden Walk for shopping, dining, and entertainment or catch a game at Angel Stadium.
[01:03:34] With countless restaurants nearby and a location close to Southern California's top attractions, Hotel Lulu is the perfect place for families to keep the fun going all vacation long.
[01:03:44] Yeah, and it used to be a Red Lion Hotel, which means that it's got some of that old, luxurious hotel feel that is kind of just baked into these old places.
[01:03:54] It seems like the angle they're going for is it's like the fun party people, almost like – it seems like Anaheim Hotel-ish adjacent sort of that market is what they're trying to tap into.
[01:04:16] And, I mean, it looks fine as far as I can tell.
[01:04:20] When I was there last year, there was a really loud protest happening from the workers.
[01:04:29] So, you know, me now, that's a positive.
[01:04:34] I think that – let's see.
[01:04:37] They got outdoor pool.
[01:04:40] Looks like possibly an outdoor pool bar, on-site restaurant and bar.
[01:04:45] I don't know how reliable it is.
[01:04:47] It could be one of those.
[01:04:48] You have to pay for parking.
[01:04:49] You have to pay for food.
[01:04:50] Yeah, yeah.
[01:04:51] There's a cocktail lounge.
[01:04:52] Their exercise facility has weightlifting equipment, stationary bike, treadmill, and an elevator.
[01:04:58] Mmm!
[01:05:00] Maybe unrelated, but indoor corridors.
[01:05:02] Of course.
[01:05:03] Yeah.
[01:05:04] I thought that was an interesting amenity.
[01:05:06] Wait, the corridors are inside and the corridors aren't outside corridors, which would be –
[01:05:10] That's correct.
[01:05:10] They're interior.
[01:05:11] I guess you could have a multilingual staff, Eric.
[01:05:14] Mmm!
[01:05:14] Wait, how many linguals do they have?
[01:05:16] Two.
[01:05:16] Two linguals.
[01:05:17] Oh, okay.
[01:05:18] At least two.
[01:05:19] Just like –
[01:05:19] They have cable or satellite television or DirecTV.
[01:05:23] But it doesn't say whether it's in color or not, right?
[01:05:25] No, we're not sure.
[01:05:26] Okay.
[01:05:26] They have free wireless internet.
[01:05:28] They have banquet facilities, conference facilities, catering, a ballroom.
[01:05:33] My read on this place based on just like videos that I've seen and other things is it's –
[01:05:40] This one is probably the one that if you're going to bump up –
[01:05:45] Like we were talking about, like if you're going to be staying in one of these boring places, you may as well bump up or down.
[01:05:50] I think this is the one that you bump up to from that middle area.
[01:05:54] Yeah.
[01:05:54] Yeah.
[01:05:55] Yeah.
[01:05:55] It's convenient.
[01:05:56] It's got –
[01:05:56] They offer sunbathing.
[01:05:58] Ooh!
[01:05:59] How nice of them.
[01:06:00] That's one of the amenities.
[01:06:00] Up on the roof.
[01:06:00] Do they like sponge –
[01:06:01] Do they sponge the sun onto you?
[01:06:04] That's right.
[01:06:07] So, hey, what hotels nearby have a higher room where I can see the roof?
[01:06:14] All right.
[01:06:14] I'm sorry.
[01:06:15] I'm moving on.
[01:06:15] And it feels close, which is – I don't know that that is important, but like the next one we're going to talk about I think doesn't feel as close, but it is as close.
[01:06:25] Yes.
[01:06:26] I agree with you, Dan.
[01:06:27] I love the next one that we're going to talk about.
[01:06:28] Dude, it's the Suncoast Hotel.
[01:06:32] Suncoast Park Hotel Anaheim Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
[01:06:36] Love this place.
[01:06:36] Oh, yeah.
[01:06:37] But I do want to mention that that does make a difference to some people.
[01:06:41] If you're planning this vacation or whatever, also keep in mind if you have just a buzzkill of a person that you're traveling with who is like, but it's not – it doesn't feel close.
[01:06:56] Like that is a thing, right?
[01:06:57] Yeah, sure.
[01:06:58] Sure.
[01:06:59] Psychologically, yeah.
[01:07:00] Yeah, and this one will feel close.
[01:07:03] However, it's as close as the Suncoast, and I adore the Suncoast.
[01:07:09] Let's get into it.
[01:07:10] It's 0.8 miles.
[01:07:12] Suncoast is 0.8 miles from the Esplanade.
[01:07:17] Yeah.
[01:07:17] Not a bad walk.
[01:07:19] It's not a bad walk, and you can take the art if you want to.
[01:07:23] It's the Clementine line.
[01:07:25] It turns into the 7-8 combo.
[01:07:56] So, highly walkable.
[01:07:57] I understand if someone saw it from a distance and was like, I don't want to stay there.
[01:08:01] It's boxy AF.
[01:08:04] Yeah.
[01:08:05] It's right by the freeway.
[01:08:07] So, you do get some of the freeway noise.
[01:08:09] It's just kind of inevitable in the area.
[01:08:11] There's weird, like, apocalyptic empty areas around it.
[01:08:19] Visible wiring.
[01:08:21] Not in the hotel, but, like, outside of it.
[01:08:24] There's power lines.
[01:08:25] It's not sticking out of the walls.
[01:08:27] No, no, no.
[01:08:27] That's what you're saying.
[01:08:28] Inside, it's glorious.
[01:08:29] So, just being perfectly honest, it is kind of far from, like, food.
[01:08:39] Like, if you're one of those people who's like, I'm good to go.
[01:08:42] All I need is my Uber eats or, like, I come with the food I'm going to eat or I just never
[01:08:50] eat in the room.
[01:08:51] It's just a bed.
[01:08:51] Um, it's the amenities themselves are, are great.
[01:08:57] Very comfortable beds, a little bit on the soft side, which is not a problem for me.
[01:09:00] I love that.
[01:09:01] Um, it opened in 2019 part of Hilton's hotel, Hilton's boutique style tapestry collection.
[01:09:09] Uh, you got to pay for parking, uh, onsite dining, including a bar and cafe.
[01:09:15] This is one of those places where it depends on the time of day.
[01:09:19] Like they have a guy named Bruce.
[01:09:22] I don't know if that's really his name, but I'm just, I'm painting a picture here.
[01:09:25] Like Bruce works there like six to 10, you know, uh, Monday through Saturday.
[01:09:32] Right.
[01:09:33] And Bruce has like a, uh, pizza, Mike, uh, a pizza oven in the back room.
[01:09:39] And that's kind of, and he also tends bar.
[01:09:42] That's kind of what that is, which is the beach comer.
[01:09:45] Yeah.
[01:09:46] It's, it's not good or bad.
[01:09:47] It's just, if, if you go in expecting, Hey, I can just go down and hang out and get wasted
[01:09:53] with a bunch of travelers while eating, you know, chicken wings or whatever at any time
[01:09:58] of day.
[01:09:59] It's not that.
[01:10:00] Yeah.
[01:10:00] Not quite.
[01:10:01] Sorry.
[01:10:02] But, uh, Eric, you've stayed, you've both stayed there or.
[01:10:08] I stayed there for something and they were going to recorded there.
[01:10:11] Yeah.
[01:10:12] We recorded there.
[01:10:12] And Eric, you did stay there.
[01:10:13] The most awkward record.
[01:10:15] I was in the lobby.
[01:10:16] Yeah.
[01:10:16] In the lobby.
[01:10:17] The business center.
[01:10:18] We were in the business center.
[01:10:19] That's right.
[01:10:20] Um, staying there.
[01:10:21] It was very pleasant.
[01:10:24] I was very impressed.
[01:10:25] That's a good word for it.
[01:10:26] Super clean.
[01:10:28] Um, like modern.
[01:10:31] Yeah.
[01:10:32] It's, it's, it's a hotel.
[01:10:33] Yes.
[01:10:34] It feels modern.
[01:10:35] That's the thing.
[01:10:35] It feels like it's like, um, it's, it, it, it's like you're just enough outside of the
[01:10:43] bubble that it just feels like you're staying at a reasonably good hotel.
[01:10:47] Yeah.
[01:10:47] It, it doesn't feel any different than anything like that, but it's a good hotel.
[01:10:51] Right.
[01:10:52] It's comfortable.
[01:10:53] I like that.
[01:10:53] It's small.
[01:10:55] Um, I really, I, I, we never got a chance to try out the bar there like that, that
[01:11:00] whole setup with the, oh, uh, so-and-so called in today.
[01:11:03] There's no bar today.
[01:11:05] Like that kind of small feeling is so boutique.
[01:11:08] Um, it's a boutique hotel.
[01:11:10] It, it just feels, it felt nice.
[01:11:14] I was able to talk to the building, like the, the hotel manager.
[01:11:17] I just said, Hey, where's the hotel manager?
[01:11:19] And she showed up and I'm like, Hey, I work for this travel company.
[01:11:22] Like we had a good conversation.
[01:11:24] Um, and we asked for, Hey, can we record in your business center?
[01:11:28] Yeah, sure.
[01:11:28] No problem.
[01:11:29] They gave us like, they, they set everything up for us.
[01:11:32] It was very easy.
[01:11:34] They're very accommodating.
[01:11:35] Not everybody needs to record a podcast in their lobby, but, um, we had a, we had a really
[01:11:41] good time there.
[01:11:42] It was, it was an enjoyable walk that wasn't, it wasn't the same walk that you get when you're
[01:11:50] leaving some of the other hotels where you're just part of the throng heading right.
[01:11:54] Yeah.
[01:11:54] From Disney.
[01:11:55] It's kind of isolated ish, like Dan said, right off the five, but it's on Disney way.
[01:12:00] And it's just, I mean, it's a straight shot to your point, Dan.
[01:12:03] Yeah.
[01:12:04] You pass a parking lot and then you're all of a sudden you're at that best Western across
[01:12:07] the street.
[01:12:08] Yeah.
[01:12:08] And that's also a clear shot to see the fireworks at night through certain windows.
[01:12:12] Or I think, I think from the pool area, you can see them.
[01:12:15] Yeah, probably.
[01:12:16] Uh, you know, it's, it's just, it, you know, there are some hotels that you like you, you
[01:12:22] stay at.
[01:12:23] And then when you go back, you're, you're, it's that feeling of like, oh, I'm really glad
[01:12:28] I stayed here.
[01:12:29] Like as you're walking on the property.
[01:12:31] Yeah.
[01:12:31] I feel like Dan, for me, my memory of this hotel and you is this was sort of an awakening.
[01:12:36] Like I, I think I booked this hotel for you with concierge.
[01:12:39] Yeah.
[01:12:40] Yeah.
[01:12:40] And it was kind of like at a departure, a little bit more expensive than you may have
[01:12:43] usually spent, but it, it was an awakening for you.
[01:12:46] A little bit.
[01:12:46] Yeah.
[01:12:47] Yeah.
[01:12:47] Uh, it was more of the awakening of like, oh, there's different types of hotels exist,
[01:12:54] which I, I knew, but it wasn't so much like, it was like, oh, you could have this flavor
[01:13:00] of hotel and it's not better or worse.
[01:13:02] Like for example, weirdly enough, I, when I go to Disneyland in during the holiday season,
[01:13:08] I prefer to stay at the Heirs Orange because it just feels like holidays to me.
[01:13:12] This is like a good springtime place for me.
[01:13:16] To be fair, I, this was an awakening for me too.
[01:13:19] This was one of the first, this was not the first, but it was maybe the second hotel I had
[01:13:23] stayed at off property where I went, I'm comfortable here.
[01:13:28] Right.
[01:13:28] Yeah.
[01:13:28] I could do this.
[01:13:29] I see why people do this because it was, it was off the main throng.
[01:13:34] I wasn't fighting for an, an Uber or a Lyft.
[01:13:37] I wasn't fighting through the crowds to get to wherever.
[01:13:41] It was just, it was a good block of, okay, I'm going with everybody.
[01:13:46] Oh, ah, it's that last part of the walk.
[01:13:50] Most of the walk is alone.
[01:13:52] Yeah.
[01:13:53] Yeah.
[01:13:53] And that's, and that's nice and safe and safe.
[01:13:57] Clearly as we've learned.
[01:13:58] And it feels like when I'm driving home from work where I'm leaving Denver and it's this
[01:14:05] massive cluster of people.
[01:14:07] But then when I get out to a certain point, the traffic lightens up and then I get to
[01:14:11] my mountain community and it's just a few of us cars driving up a mountain and it's,
[01:14:18] that's when you relax.
[01:14:19] You get out of the traffic.
[01:14:20] Yes.
[01:14:21] Thank you.
[01:14:22] But you get out of the traffic and you're just driving.
[01:14:26] And by the time you get home, oh, how was the traffic?
[01:14:30] I don't know.
[01:14:31] I don't remember.
[01:14:32] Apparently it took two hours today.
[01:14:34] Do you, is there a, is there a defining line like on the highway, you know, those highway
[01:14:37] signs now leaving, whatever.
[01:14:39] Is there one that says now leaving homeowner insurance?
[01:14:43] I have homeowner's insurance.
[01:14:45] Okay.
[01:14:45] Okay.
[01:14:46] Sorry.
[01:14:46] Okay.
[01:14:47] Quick.
[01:14:47] Do you want a quick update?
[01:14:48] Yeah.
[01:14:49] Quick update.
[01:14:49] Let's, let's divert from, cause I, you know, I, I love talking about hotels, but, uh,
[01:14:55] I have homeowner's insurance now and, um, it's, it's worse homeowner's insurance and
[01:15:03] it's more expensive.
[01:15:04] A thousand dollars more per year.
[01:15:06] In fact.
[01:15:07] Bummer.
[01:15:08] Well, at least you've got it.
[01:15:09] At least I've got it.
[01:15:10] And at least I have the means to pay an extra thousand dollars a year for something.
[01:15:15] That's good.
[01:15:16] But, but, but, but update, uh, but update, um, tomorrow.
[01:15:24] Yes.
[01:15:25] Mm.
[01:15:25] Uh, tomorrow I am, uh, going to be, well, I'm being interviewed by a reporter from CBS news
[01:15:32] to talk about our mountain community and how it's so difficult to get insurance up here.
[01:15:40] And she has experienced the same thing in her area.
[01:15:43] She was, her home was part of the Marshall fire, which was a few years ago, which is one
[01:15:47] of the reasons why our rates have gone up through the roof in Colorado.
[01:15:52] Uh, and she understands, and she's been looking into some of these other alternative, uh, insurance
[01:15:58] options.
[01:15:59] And she has a contact at the division of insurance in Colorado, but, um, I am going to talk to
[01:16:05] her tomorrow morning about our particular plight.
[01:16:10] And I'm going to be on CBS news.
[01:16:11] Well, that's exciting.
[01:16:13] So listener, this episode will come out after he's been interviewed long after it, just Google
[01:16:18] Adam, the woo CBS news insurance.
[01:16:23] Shall you Colorado?
[01:16:26] So, uh, speaking of having the means.
[01:16:29] Well, just real quick to sum up the sun coast.
[01:16:32] Uh, I forgot what I was going to say.
[01:16:34] Hopefully I will remember.
[01:16:35] Oh, it's, um, it's worth looking at because it's one of those hotels that like sometimes
[01:16:42] has this dip in rate in the rate that's like insane, but also be aware of that.
[01:16:48] They're aware of like the refund policies and the parking, the parking it's Hilton.
[01:16:52] So they pay, they charge too much for parking.
[01:16:55] Um, basically anything that I could say that potentially negative about this place is entirely
[01:17:01] not this place's fault.
[01:17:02] It's just sort of the circumstances.
[01:17:05] So, but I, what I was going to say related to the sun coast was speaking of having the
[01:17:11] means, we just talked about hotel Lulu.
[01:17:13] If you're going to bump up, right?
[01:17:15] Right.
[01:17:16] Oh yeah.
[01:17:16] What's the difference?
[01:17:17] The package price.
[01:17:18] That's two nights, two people park hop or whatever.
[01:17:20] The total package price difference is $29.
[01:17:23] Oh, wow.
[01:17:24] For all of that time too.
[01:17:26] For all of that total.
[01:17:27] So, oh yeah.
[01:17:28] So if I would, yeah, I would say if, if you're looking for a bump up hotel from that middle
[01:17:33] place, if you're with somebody or if you need to feel close to the, to the resort Lulu, if
[01:17:41] you don't care, or if feeling like you're further out of the bubble while still being geographically
[01:17:48] close, it's sun coast.
[01:17:50] And that's possibly part of why I like it so much.
[01:17:54] It's like you can even, it's like you're looking into the bubble from a distance.
[01:17:57] You're like, I'm going to go over there tomorrow, but right now I'm here.
[01:18:02] And that feels really nice.
[01:18:04] That's fair.
[01:18:04] That's a really good assessment.
[01:18:06] Good assessment.
[01:18:07] Yeah.
[01:18:07] Okay.
[01:18:08] So back to the bubble, Dan and Eric, the next hotel, the next more expensive hotel is the
[01:18:15] Desert Palms Hotel and Suites.
[01:18:19] Now, if you play your cards right, you could be looking at the back of Radiator Springs.
[01:18:26] And what a treat that would be.
[01:18:28] Yes.
[01:18:28] It is right next to the 7-Eleven at Harbor and Catella.
[01:18:33] I think that to sum up the place and the vibe, look, I'm sure it's fine.
[01:18:40] I'm sure there are people that stay there and have a good experience.
[01:18:44] In my, from my point of view and from what I've seen in a lot of videos, I think you just
[01:18:50] described it right there.
[01:18:51] It's right next door to the 7-Eleven.
[01:18:54] Yeah.
[01:18:55] I mean, considering close by properties, this kind of feels like candy cane in some ways,
[01:19:01] Dan, like, what do you?
[01:19:03] Now that you're drinking water, I'm going to ask you a question.
[01:19:05] Like, it just has that kind of same vibe where you're like, close, but not that close.
[01:19:11] But what's the big difference?
[01:19:13] It has the same vibe, but with more of a, like, I'm drawing references that are specific
[01:19:23] to my own life and that's not helping.
[01:19:25] It's like, it just doesn't seem like a place anyone wants to go to.
[01:19:32] It seems like the kind of place that it's like, you know, Toby's basketball team was playing
[01:19:40] in Anaheim and all the other team, all the other families decided to stay here because
[01:19:45] some of them have bunk beds and, and it's close to Disneyland.
[01:19:49] Okay.
[01:19:51] Cause I, I'd like to, I want to eventually stay at candy cane in.
[01:19:55] Yeah.
[01:19:55] Candy cane in seems different.
[01:19:57] It seems like there's a lot of try there.
[01:19:58] Like they, they're actually trying to create a sense of like resort and the free parking
[01:20:05] and the trolley.
[01:20:06] And yeah, desert palms.
[01:20:08] And I could be completely wrong.
[01:20:09] I've never stayed there.
[01:20:10] I've been inside of the place once.
[01:20:13] And it was in that context of, you know, my nephew's basketball team, you know, all that.
[01:20:19] And I went up to visit and like, I just remember it feeling.
[01:20:25] It's like, just like, like that, like, just kind of like, no one wants to be there.
[01:20:32] It's all utilitarian.
[01:20:34] It's not bad, but it's not, it's, there's no like positive affirmation that there's consent,
[01:20:44] but there's not enthusiastic consent.
[01:20:46] To be there.
[01:20:48] Enthusiastic consent.
[01:20:50] Wow.
[01:20:51] That's a phrase.
[01:20:52] That's the t-shirt.
[01:20:56] There's, uh, there's like a little food hall.
[01:20:59] There's like a market.
[01:21:00] The hotel looks relatively updated.
[01:21:02] There are suites available.
[01:21:04] Uh, there are, you know, kid suites and living areas in some rooms.
[01:21:09] Um, they have a kid's, uh, movie area, outdoor pool and hot tub.
[01:21:15] Maybe that's the thing.
[01:21:16] It's just, I am so not its target market.
[01:21:20] Yeah.
[01:21:20] And I can, yeah, but I can totally say.
[01:21:23] On their website, it doesn't even talk about art.
[01:21:24] I mean, there's no reason for you to not walk.
[01:21:26] Right.
[01:21:27] And, and, and I think that's, I think really that's what it comes down to is if you have
[01:21:30] kids and if you want a pool and if you want like 50 bunk beds and 12 pull out couches
[01:21:38] and you know, all of that, this is the, this is that place.
[01:21:43] Okay.
[01:21:43] Yeah.
[01:21:44] I'm not saying that that's necessarily a bad thing, but there's just something about those
[01:21:49] kinds of places that like, there's a vibe that like soaks into the walls.
[01:21:55] And as soon as I walk in there as me, I just, I can feel it permeate.
[01:22:01] Oh.
[01:22:01] Ooh.
[01:22:04] Get me out.
[01:22:06] Does that place, like how long has that place been there?
[01:22:08] I mean, I would assume anything close has been there for a long time.
[01:22:13] You know what?
[01:22:14] I don't know.
[01:22:15] We can find out, but based on how it looks, what are we going to guess?
[01:22:20] 70s.
[01:22:21] What's the question?
[01:22:23] When, how old is it?
[01:22:24] When was it built?
[01:22:25] I might have that information.
[01:22:26] Let me see.
[01:22:27] That's a great question.
[01:22:28] I do have that information.
[01:22:30] Yeah.
[01:22:30] Oh, damn it.
[01:22:31] There goes our game.
[01:22:31] Sorry, Dan.
[01:22:32] So it's pretty new, although it may be refurbished.
[01:22:35] I don't know.
[01:22:37] Family owned and operated since 2004.
[01:22:39] I don't know.
[01:22:40] I mean, their website has like a virtual reality view of the breakfast room.
[01:22:46] Great.
[01:22:47] It looks like one of those free breakfast rooms, but it doesn't say on their website whether
[01:22:51] it's free.
[01:22:52] I just want to know how, how irked Walt was by this particular hotel.
[01:22:56] Well, yeah, that needs to be the new recommendation.
[01:23:00] How, how annoyed was Walt by seeing this?
[01:23:03] Well, it was 2004.
[01:23:05] So he would, I, his head might've been there.
[01:23:08] Yeah.
[01:23:08] I don't know if that, but yeah.
[01:23:09] What was there before 2000?
[01:23:11] Yeah.
[01:23:11] I don't know.
[01:23:11] It had to be something.
[01:23:13] Yeah.
[01:23:13] There's definitely a rental car place next door.
[01:23:15] Cause I tried to rent a car there once.
[01:23:18] Anyway, it's like that's free, like free hot breakfast, heated pool.
[01:23:21] Oh, it does that for you?
[01:23:23] Black and white TVs, obviously.
[01:23:24] Um, it, I don't know.
[01:23:27] Look, our read could be way off, but I mean, you guys, if you're going to spend that extra
[01:23:32] money, you guys work in, you guys work in the industry.
[01:23:36] You know what these things look, you can get a good vibe check.
[01:23:39] Like I'm just looking at one of the pictures here.
[01:23:41] And again, I don't know for sure, but I just know, I know that that carpet and that on the
[01:23:48] step is just dirty.
[01:23:51] I just know it.
[01:23:52] And I know that like the railing is kind of weird and grody.
[01:23:56] Don't touch it for long.
[01:23:58] I'm sure.
[01:23:59] And I'm sure it's fine.
[01:24:00] I'm sure the people that work there are fine.
[01:24:02] I just feel like it's, I, I, I think it has, it, it's probably been through a lot and that
[01:24:12] could look, you could get a good deal out of it.
[01:24:14] They have, I mean, in this, in this picture I'm looking at, let me get back to it.
[01:24:18] I have, I'm seeing one, two queen beds and then you step down into a little living area.
[01:24:25] I know that couch is going to fold out into another bed.
[01:24:30] So like, if you're looking like, again, like you want, you want to get all of, you know,
[01:24:36] Tadger's basketball team in one room for like 50 bucks.
[01:24:40] That's, that's probably going to be the place you want to stay.
[01:24:42] But, and if your kid's named Tadger, then you, you need to stop living in my head and coming
[01:24:47] up.
[01:24:48] Sorry.
[01:24:48] Things like that.
[01:24:50] Um, all right.
[01:24:52] So let's move on to the, uh, let's get a little further away from the Anaheim resort as we
[01:24:57] get more expensive.
[01:24:59] Let's go to the Cambria hotel and suites Anaheim resort.
[01:25:03] They got some slides there.
[01:25:05] They do have some slides there.
[01:25:06] That's that it is something they really want you to know about.
[01:25:09] Cause that is the main picture on the Disney travel agent website.
[01:25:13] Yes, it is.
[01:25:13] The hotel Cambria is right on I five.
[01:25:17] It's down the road from, uh, it's on, you know, Disney way in Anaheim Boulevard, just
[01:25:22] down the road from sun coast, but probably a third of a mile.
[01:25:25] Maybe we're a little over a mile away from Disneyland at this point.
[01:25:28] And by the way, we're looking at a difference of like $80.
[01:25:35] Hold on.
[01:25:36] Yeah.
[01:25:37] $14.25 for the Cambria.
[01:25:40] Uh-huh.
[01:25:41] And the.
[01:25:43] $40.
[01:25:44] Yeah.
[01:25:44] $40.
[01:25:45] Around $40.
[01:25:47] Well, hold on a second.
[01:25:48] For the whole package.
[01:25:49] The sun coast was $13.37.
[01:25:52] The Cambria is $14.25.
[01:25:57] $15.
[01:25:57] Hmm.
[01:25:59] So the desert palms, $10 more than sun coast for the whole package.
[01:26:04] Yeah.
[01:26:05] Um, but it looks gross.
[01:26:07] I could be wrong.
[01:26:09] Um,
[01:26:10] Hey, if you work for the desert palms and you'd like to talk to about it, talk to us about
[01:26:13] it, uh, let us know and we'll put you on the next show.
[01:26:17] Yeah.
[01:26:17] I mean, it just, it just, just general vibe check.
[01:26:19] It looks gross.
[01:26:20] Um, yeah.
[01:26:22] All right.
[01:26:22] Hotel Cambria, however, looks very sleek and modern.
[01:26:26] Looks like they have some suites available.
[01:26:28] Bunk beds in some of the rooms.
[01:26:30] It's a, it's like a mid rise hotel right on the freeway.
[01:26:33] Outdoor pool and these water slides.
[01:26:36] Let's talk about these water slides.
[01:26:37] They look awesome.
[01:26:38] And just for, just for comparison's sake, the whole package, just according to this pricing
[01:26:42] is a hundred dollars more than sun coast.
[01:26:46] Okay.
[01:26:47] Yeah.
[01:26:47] And it looks like an outdoor bar at the Cambria.
[01:26:51] Free wifi, a hundred percent smoke free surveillance security, outdoor whirlpool, hot tub, grab
[01:26:56] and go market.
[01:26:57] They have elevators.
[01:26:59] Thank God.
[01:27:00] Do they have color TVs?
[01:27:01] Lounge and bar.
[01:27:02] Yes.
[01:27:03] Cocktail hour.
[01:27:04] There's a movie theater, beach amenities.
[01:27:09] Yeah.
[01:27:09] My TVs.
[01:27:10] That's a shame.
[01:27:11] Yeah.
[01:27:12] Yeah.
[01:27:12] Yeah.
[01:27:13] It's also located in, it's also located in a shopping center that has, hold on.
[01:27:20] It has California fish grill, the habit, Jersey Mike's.
[01:27:25] Oh no.
[01:27:26] This is one we talked about that was across the street from garden walk.
[01:27:30] Yeah.
[01:27:31] From the Hampton Inn.
[01:27:32] It was adjacent to the Hampton Inn.
[01:27:33] Yeah.
[01:27:33] Yeah.
[01:27:34] So if you, I think this is, who is this for?
[01:27:38] I think this hotel is probably for somebody who either you have a big group and not everybody's
[01:27:43] going to be going to the, to the parks every day.
[01:27:46] You liked, or you just really like hotel time.
[01:27:49] Cause it looks like, it looks like a really super decent place to stay.
[01:27:53] Yeah.
[01:27:54] Um, getting to the parks is.
[01:27:57] Eh, just a hair more of an effort than I think you might want it to be.
[01:28:01] Uh, art stop there is going to be Disney way and the six 12 combo.
[01:28:07] Um, Dan, there's a cheesecake factory point zero miles away.
[01:28:12] What?
[01:28:14] That's so few miles.
[01:28:16] Yeah.
[01:28:17] Yeah.
[01:28:18] On their website, cheesecake factory, zero miles away.
[01:28:21] The fifth.
[01:28:21] They like to plead it zero miles away.
[01:28:24] Roy's Hawaiian fusion.
[01:28:26] Point four.
[01:28:26] PF Chang's point four.
[01:28:27] Johnny rockets.
[01:28:28] Point four.
[01:28:29] I mean, so pros for this place.
[01:28:32] I think the water, the water park looks really cool.
[01:28:37] I would, I mean, if I was a kid and I would, I would love to stay there.
[01:28:42] Um, slides.
[01:28:43] Yeah.
[01:28:44] There's a, it looks like it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's my, the vibe I'm getting
[01:28:50] from it is it's like sun coast, but for families.
[01:28:52] Yeah.
[01:28:53] I don't, I don't know who this is for.
[01:28:55] It's not really convenient to anything.
[01:28:57] It is kind of just a cluster, but it, but not, not a bad cluster.
[01:29:02] It's just like.
[01:29:05] It's on Manchester, which turns into Disney way and Anaheim Boulevard.
[01:29:09] This are thoroughfares right off the interstate.
[01:29:12] A little shopping center with plenty of restaurant.
[01:29:14] It reminds me of the Anaheim Marriott suites where you have a bunch of restaurants in the parking
[01:29:18] lot.
[01:29:19] Okay.
[01:29:19] And it's a little over a mile away.
[01:29:22] Um, but yeah, I don't know.
[01:29:24] I don't know.
[01:29:26] I, I'm going to have to look on that, look at that art stop a little bit more just to
[01:29:30] see like what it's about.
[01:29:31] Cause I don't maybe going that way.
[01:29:36] And then give me, I'm going to look into this.
[01:29:38] Hold on.
[01:29:39] Keep, keep talking.
[01:29:40] I'm looking, there's bus parking, putting green.
[01:29:42] It doesn't say anything on their website about art.
[01:29:46] And access.
[01:29:47] I'm looking at the, the, I'm looking at the, like, uh, the maps.
[01:29:52] Yeah.
[01:29:52] I'm pulling up the art app.
[01:29:54] Keep, keep talking.
[01:29:55] Um, cause if this, if this is art convenient to where like, if it's one of those rare lines
[01:30:01] where you could just like very easily hop on or off the art, then that would make a
[01:30:05] very reasonable case for this place.
[01:30:07] Yeah.
[01:30:08] That's a different situation.
[01:30:09] Yeah.
[01:30:09] So this is what they say on their website.
[01:30:12] Our good neighbor hotel is less than a mile from Disneyland.
[01:30:15] Despite later in their website, it says 1.1 miles away from Disneyland, but whatever.
[01:30:20] Purchase your tickets here at the new Cambria hotel and suites Anaheim resort area.
[01:30:24] Our 30,000 square foot water park is open for guests to enjoy.
[01:30:28] Stay with us to experience resort style amenities and an abundance of onsite dining and entertainment
[01:30:33] options, including the water park attractions, an outdoor hot tub, a putting green, and an
[01:30:39] outdoor movie wall located in the Anaheim resort district.
[01:30:42] Our upscale hotel offers easy access to the attractions that make this city a magical vacation
[01:30:48] spot and less dangerous than you thought.
[01:30:52] Wow.
[01:30:53] They put that in there, huh?
[01:30:55] Things you'll love.
[01:30:56] That's great.
[01:30:56] Less than a mile from Disneyland.
[01:30:58] Adjacent to art theme park shuttle.
[01:31:00] 30,000 square foot water park.
[01:31:02] Breakfast included.
[01:31:03] Premium family suites with kid-friendly bunk beds.
[01:31:05] That's six fast casual restaurants plus an indoor-outdoor bar.
[01:31:11] Art's not looking good for this one.
[01:31:12] I'm liking this place all the time.
[01:31:14] Art is not looking good for this.
[01:31:16] It's basically like...
[01:31:17] It says art adjacent.
[01:31:19] So walk several blocks to get an art.
[01:31:22] No, it looks like it's right there, but the route is really convoluted.
[01:31:28] No, so you might not get there anytime soon.
[01:31:31] Yeah, I mean, time-wise, you may as well walk, but it's like, to me, it's right outside comfortable
[01:31:37] walking distance.
[01:31:39] But if grandma needs to sit down on the way to the parks...
[01:31:43] Right.
[01:31:43] I'm not saying that as a fat person.
[01:31:45] I'm saying that as just like...
[01:31:47] I mean, I remember a time when I did like physical activity, and even then I would be
[01:31:54] like, no, it's too far.
[01:31:57] Um...
[01:31:58] Look, I'm not saying don't stay there by any means.
[01:32:01] I...
[01:32:01] If you're...
[01:32:04] Okay, here's the case I would make for it.
[01:32:06] If you are looking for a place that is like, we're going to hit Universal, we're going to
[01:32:12] hit Disney, and you call it Disney, and we're going to hit the knots...
[01:32:18] Nailed it.
[01:32:19] Nailed it, Dan.
[01:32:20] You know what I mean?
[01:32:20] This one's for you.
[01:32:22] And I'm not saying that as a negative.
[01:32:25] It's just like, we're going to go out to California.
[01:32:28] We're going to hit the beaches one day.
[01:32:29] We're going to hit Disneyland the other.
[01:32:31] We're going to get this, this, and this.
[01:32:33] This is probably the perfect place for you because you got your juicing mics.
[01:32:37] You have your habit.
[01:32:38] You have your California fish grill, and you have your water slide.
[01:32:43] Like, all the fixings are there for this type of traveler.
[01:32:48] Okay.
[01:32:49] And it says Cheesecake Factory, although I can't find it unless it's in the hotel.
[01:32:53] No, it's at the Garden Walk.
[01:32:55] Yeah, it's at Garden Walk, right?
[01:32:56] It lied to me.
[01:32:57] It's close enough.
[01:32:59] And if you're that kind of traveler, yeah, you can go to Cheesecake Factory.
[01:33:03] You can go to Garden Walk one day.
[01:33:05] I'm not trying to disparage this type of traveler, just that this person does exist, right?
[01:33:10] Yeah, I think you nailed it.
[01:33:11] We're at Disney one day, Universal.
[01:33:12] It's right on the freeway.
[01:33:14] Right.
[01:33:14] You rent a car.
[01:33:16] Yeah.
[01:33:16] Yeah.
[01:33:17] Yep.
[01:33:17] Yep.
[01:33:18] Nailed it.
[01:33:18] Wow.
[01:33:18] Okay, we have two hotels left before we're done with the moderates.
[01:33:22] We're going to – the second to last is the Hilton Garden Inn Anaheim Resort, which
[01:33:27] is less than a half a mile away from Disneyland.
[01:33:29] Look at that weird roof.
[01:33:34] It is – where?
[01:33:37] Oh, up there?
[01:33:38] It's right there.
[01:33:39] Oh, yeah.
[01:33:40] This one is definitely walkable.
[01:33:42] It is by – okay, so those of you who are familiar with the area, you know how there's
[01:33:47] that like McDonald's that sometimes people go to across from Disneyland and the Mimi's.
[01:33:52] Right there in the Fairfield Inn.
[01:33:53] Yeah.
[01:33:54] It's behind the Fairfield Inn.
[01:33:55] It's behind that.
[01:33:56] Yeah.
[01:33:56] Oh.
[01:33:58] Your art stop is going to be the Disney Way, Manchester Duo, 6-7 Combo.
[01:34:06] You got Clementine.
[01:34:07] But let's be honest, you're walking, right?
[01:34:08] I mean, it's right there.
[01:34:09] Yeah, you are.
[01:34:10] But I mean, it's also nice to have options.
[01:34:13] Speaking – okay, so options-wise for art, it's a walk to get to the Clementine line by
[01:34:22] Howard Johnson.
[01:34:24] Oh, that's not good.
[01:34:25] And then there's – yeah.
[01:34:28] It's the last stop.
[01:34:30] You have to put a Howard Johnson to get on the art?
[01:34:32] Yeah.
[01:34:32] And it's the last stop, so they might forget you.
[01:34:35] I've been on that line many times.
[01:34:39] I mean, look, I'm not going to – you're going to be doing a lot of walking.
[01:34:42] So I don't want to make fun of anyone for taking the art, but like taking it back?
[01:34:48] Absolutely.
[01:34:49] You're going to be the first stop on the Disney Way line.
[01:34:51] Totally makes sense.
[01:34:53] If you can get onto the bus, at least you can like get off the bus.
[01:34:57] Right.
[01:34:58] Right.
[01:35:01] Let's see.
[01:35:02] It's open in 2021.
[01:35:03] This is a new hotel.
[01:35:04] Just off 5 – this is rest and relax steps from Disneyland.
[01:35:08] Just off 5-5 were steps from Disneyland Park, California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney.
[01:35:13] The Anaheim Convention Center and Downtown Anaheim are within two miles.
[01:35:17] Knott's Berry Farm is 10 minutes away.
[01:35:19] We offer family suites, stylish rooms, guest-focused amenities.
[01:35:23] Enjoy full-service bar, restaurant, and coffee shop.
[01:35:26] Looks like you also have a noise buffer for the freeway just because of how the building is actually shaped.
[01:35:34] Nice fitness center.
[01:35:35] I mean, maybe there's some rooms in the part that's like right by the freeway,
[01:35:40] but I feel like if you were to make an effort and ask to be in the inner sanctum of the hotel,
[01:35:49] you would be able to avoid.
[01:35:50] Or south-facing.
[01:35:53] That's the trick.
[01:35:54] Okay.
[01:35:54] If you stay here, ask for a south-facing room.
[01:35:57] Okay.
[01:35:58] Because that's going to be – I mean, you're going to be looking right into a parking lot,
[01:36:02] but the freeway noise is going to be minimal.
[01:36:08] Yeah, parking is $35.
[01:36:11] It's probably of note.
[01:36:12] The Desert Palms we talked about a few minutes ago behind Radiator Springs Racers,
[01:36:16] parking is $29, so it's less expensive to park there.
[01:36:20] Breakfast here at the Hilton Garden Inn Anaheim Resort is a buffet for a fee.
[01:36:27] There's an outdoor pool.
[01:36:29] Is it a good breakfast and what is the fee?
[01:36:33] Well, I bet it's – let's see.
[01:36:36] Let's look at the right.
[01:36:37] I'm going to explore that.
[01:36:38] Do they have rye toast?
[01:36:41] They have a little market.
[01:36:42] Why would they?
[01:36:43] There's – oh, my gosh.
[01:36:45] Listen to this, Dan.
[01:36:46] Luke and Laura, American Fusion Restaurant.
[01:36:49] Ooh.
[01:36:50] Is this a throwback to the ABC soap opera bistro?
[01:36:56] That sounds fancy.
[01:36:57] Luke and Laura Fusion.
[01:36:58] Colin Grounds Cafe, Manchester Bar.
[01:37:02] It's a bar and lounge located off the hotel lobby.
[01:37:04] I could see them having legitimately like actual restaurant.
[01:37:10] A decent chef doing a thing.
[01:37:13] Yeah.
[01:37:14] It's a Hilton.
[01:37:15] It's a Hilton.
[01:37:17] Yeah.
[01:37:17] It looks nice.
[01:37:19] I'm in kind of like making fun of it mode on some of these.
[01:37:22] It looks perfectly nice.
[01:37:25] That Diet Dr. Pepper in the market?
[01:37:28] There you go.
[01:37:29] Sold.
[01:37:30] Sold.
[01:37:30] I guess my feeling is why stay – let's see, $14.53.
[01:37:38] The next one up is – oh, it's like $200 more.
[01:37:41] I can see why.
[01:37:42] Okay.
[01:37:45] It seems – I don't know who would – it looks nice, but I don't –
[01:37:53] It's new.
[01:37:53] Who goes there?
[01:37:54] It's convenient.
[01:37:55] It's a Hilton.
[01:37:55] Yeah, I guess.
[01:37:56] So if I'm a Hilton Honors member, I want to stay by Disneyland.
[01:37:59] I'm going to use my points.
[01:38:00] Yes, points.
[01:38:01] Yes.
[01:38:02] Yes.
[01:38:02] I'm going to get points.
[01:38:04] Yes.
[01:38:04] It's close.
[01:38:05] Hey, kids, we're staying at Disneyland.
[01:38:07] It's right there.
[01:38:08] Yeah.
[01:38:09] Yeah.
[01:38:09] Yeah.
[01:38:09] No, I get it.
[01:38:10] Okay.
[01:38:10] That's who stays there.
[01:38:12] Yeah.
[01:38:12] You know, so their website says it's just steps away from Disneyland.
[01:38:17] You know what's just slightly closer, and this is steps away from?
[01:38:21] The Courtyard by Marriott, Anaheim Theme Park Entrance.
[01:38:26] This is the most expensive moderate hotel in the good neighbor category,
[01:38:31] and there's a reason why.
[01:38:34] Not only do they have a water park, and this is a water park.
[01:38:40] Oh, yeah, it is.
[01:38:42] I mean, not like full on water park, water park, but it's got multiple slides.
[01:38:47] More of a water park in the Cambria.
[01:38:49] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:38:50] Splash pad, et cetera.
[01:38:52] This hotel, every room in this hotel has two, count them, two bathrooms.
[01:38:59] What?
[01:39:00] Every room sleeps up to six people.
[01:39:05] Oh, my goodness.
[01:39:07] I know this because I went there on a tour.
[01:39:11] It's across the street from Disneyland.
[01:39:15] Every room has two bathrooms.
[01:39:17] So, the market here is definitely like family.
[01:39:23] Family.
[01:39:23] Family.
[01:39:24] Maybe even multiple family in one room.
[01:39:27] This is not an all-suite hotel, but every room sleeps six people.
[01:39:31] Oh.
[01:39:32] They have bunk beds, water park, two bathrooms.
[01:39:35] So, while the price is higher, you're getting a lot for it, basically.
[01:39:41] That's right.
[01:39:43] It is very expensive, and that is the reason why.
[01:39:47] Now, I toured the place, and they said every room.
[01:39:52] So, forgive me if I'm wrong, but that is what they said over and over again.
[01:39:58] And now I'm looking at it.
[01:40:00] Yeah, I'm looking at it right now.
[01:40:02] Guest room.
[01:40:02] Standard guest room.
[01:40:03] Two queen beds.
[01:40:04] Two bunk beds.
[01:40:06] Wow.
[01:40:07] That's sleep six.
[01:40:08] Yeah, it's pretty impressive.
[01:40:12] So, it looks like the market is like the same people.
[01:40:19] Basically, it's like the nicer version of the Desert Palms kind of approach.
[01:40:25] Yeah, this room has a view of the Matterhorn.
[01:40:27] This room has a view of the Matterhorn and the water park.
[01:40:32] They do, of course, have suites.
[01:40:35] They got outdoor heated pool, family owned and operated.
[01:40:39] I don't know.
[01:40:39] I don't know.
[01:40:40] It's just a pump.
[01:40:41] Wasn't it under a little bit of construction last time we were there?
[01:40:44] But they're like, that's good.
[01:40:47] Open in 2015.
[01:40:48] They were updating like the pool area.
[01:40:49] Catered families visiting Disneyland.
[01:40:52] Surfside water park with bowls.
[01:40:54] On-site dining options.
[01:40:56] Bistro and market.
[01:40:57] Fist and center.
[01:40:57] Arcade room.
[01:40:58] Free Wi-Fi.
[01:40:59] Probably black and white TVs because it doesn't say.
[01:41:03] So, yeah.
[01:41:04] Wow.
[01:41:04] Okay.
[01:41:05] Guest reviews.
[01:41:07] Guests like that the rooms are spacious.
[01:41:09] Family friendly water park.
[01:41:11] Hotels close proximity.
[01:41:13] I mean, it's not like across the street, across the street.
[01:41:15] But it's across.
[01:41:17] Let me rephrase this because you guys can be like obnoxious nerds sometimes.
[01:41:23] Wait, how obnoxious.
[01:41:25] It's across the street from Disneyland, yes.
[01:41:28] But it's not directly across the street from the place that you're going to walk through to enter Disneyland.
[01:41:35] That's not a complaint.
[01:41:36] I'm just saying for accuracy.
[01:41:38] Yeah.
[01:41:40] Yeah.
[01:41:40] And let me be clear on the bathroom thing.
[01:41:43] There are two showers.
[01:41:45] Yeah.
[01:41:45] So, there's two different showers in two different rooms.
[01:41:48] One of the showers has a toilet.
[01:41:50] One of the showers has two sinks.
[01:41:51] So, it's kind of like think of Disney Cruise Line.
[01:41:54] It's like that.
[01:41:54] Like there's a powder room bathroom and then there's a shower bathroom.
[01:41:57] But this one has two showers.
[01:42:01] It's basically the same walk as the Fairfield plus a few feet.
[01:42:06] Let's see.
[01:42:07] Let's look at directions.
[01:42:10] How long will it take to walk?
[01:42:14] Disneyland Main Transportation Center.
[01:42:16] Walking.
[01:42:17] Nine minutes.
[01:42:21] Swing by McDonald's on the way.
[01:42:24] Pretty close.
[01:42:25] Yep.
[01:42:25] You could if you wanted to.
[01:42:26] Get that, you know, McDonald's breakfast on the way over, which is, I love it.
[01:42:32] Ba-da-ba-ba-ba.
[01:42:33] I mean, I have that every day at home.
[01:42:35] But, you know, why not?
[01:42:36] Yeah.
[01:42:36] Why me, Eric?
[01:42:38] No, I don't.
[01:42:40] What's every other week?
[01:42:42] Okay, listeners.
[01:42:43] I like the steak, egg, and cheese bagel.
[01:42:44] That's all I'm saying.
[01:42:46] I'm a big fan.
[01:42:46] Oh, I don't go for the bagel.
[01:42:47] Sausage McMuffin.
[01:42:49] Love it.
[01:42:49] McMuffin.
[01:42:50] Yeah.
[01:42:51] Yeah.
[01:42:52] So, nine minute walk.
[01:42:54] It doesn't feel long.
[01:42:55] It's half a mile.
[01:42:57] Did I say mile?
[01:42:58] Nine minute.
[01:43:01] Nine minute walk.
[01:43:02] Meme's.
[01:43:02] You have to walk by Meme's to get there.
[01:43:04] You get to walk by Meme's.
[01:43:06] Get to walk by Meme's.
[01:43:08] There's a Liberty X Bitcoin ATM somewhere close, according to Google Maps.
[01:43:14] Panera.
[01:43:15] Oh, Panera.
[01:43:18] Panera.
[01:43:18] And then, oh, you could do, oh, here we go.
[01:43:21] This is the Supreme Resort special.
[01:43:23] You go to Panera on your way over, and then you go to Space Panera while you're in there.
[01:43:29] Oh.
[01:43:30] In the park.
[01:43:30] Yeah.
[01:43:32] That's the combat.
[01:43:33] Do they serve beer yet at Space Panera?
[01:43:36] They do if you're seeing the, oh, wow, look at the Rebellion in the Sky fireworks.
[01:43:44] Oh, I'm sorry.
[01:43:45] I was thinking of Orlando.
[01:43:46] Yeah, I was thinking of Orlando, where they do serve beer, but I don't know about Disneyland.
[01:43:49] Now I just feel like you're bullying me.
[01:43:52] Space beer.
[01:43:53] Space beer.
[01:43:54] Space beer.
[01:43:55] Bully.
[01:43:56] And say, soon.
[01:43:57] Bully.
[01:43:58] Soon, we're all going to have blue milk when it's all unpasteurized.
[01:44:03] Thank God.
[01:44:05] Let's see.
[01:44:06] What else?
[01:44:08] I think that's.
[01:44:09] Courtyard.
[01:44:10] Yeah.
[01:44:11] I think.
[01:44:11] Okay.
[01:44:12] So let's look at it.
[01:44:13] Let's pick our personal winners.
[01:44:15] I think Courtyard.
[01:44:18] If you've got the money.
[01:44:18] 49.
[01:44:19] Courtyard.
[01:44:21] But okay.
[01:44:23] Okay.
[01:44:23] So that's, you're speaking as representative of the families here, right?
[01:44:27] Yes.
[01:44:27] Okay.
[01:44:28] If it's just you, still Courtyard?
[01:44:31] Forgetting that you get points?
[01:44:32] Of the seven we just talked about?
[01:44:34] Yeah.
[01:44:35] Still Courtyard because of the proximity.
[01:44:37] Okay.
[01:44:39] And I'm a Marriott loyalist.
[01:44:41] Right.
[01:44:43] It's the closest of the hotels we've spoken about.
[01:44:46] Of all?
[01:44:47] So are we going to open it up to all of them or just the ones that we just covered?
[01:44:52] The ones we just covered.
[01:44:53] Okay.
[01:44:53] But I think that the statement is still true.
[01:44:56] Okay.
[01:44:56] The closest one.
[01:44:57] I think.
[01:44:57] Okay.
[01:44:58] Okay.
[01:45:00] Eric, what do you think?
[01:45:01] Of the ones.
[01:45:02] Suncoast.
[01:45:02] I had such a great time there.
[01:45:05] I really liked it.
[01:45:06] I like the Howard Johnson vibe.
[01:45:10] If we're going back to other stuff, but.
[01:45:14] Yeah.
[01:45:15] I think for me, if it's between Courtyard and Howard Johnson, I would do Howard Johnson.
[01:45:22] Okay.
[01:45:23] Oh, interesting.
[01:45:23] Yeah.
[01:45:23] Just because the vibe.
[01:45:24] And I don't.
[01:45:25] Did we talk about Howard Johnson already?
[01:45:27] Yeah.
[01:45:27] I was just thinking like, wait, did we talk about it?
[01:45:30] Is it a deluxe?
[01:45:31] I think it might be a deluxe.
[01:45:33] Are we doing an unintentional cliffhanger?
[01:45:36] I think we're doing it.
[01:45:37] I think we're doing it.
[01:45:38] I mean, Howard Johnson was pretty great, but.
[01:45:40] I feel like I would have had a lot to say.
[01:45:41] I am curious about Courtyard.
[01:45:45] And I would like to stay just to sort of get a feel for it because I'm just a hoarder like that.
[01:45:52] I bet it's a nice place.
[01:45:54] I feel like after the first day, I'd be like, it's really hard to walk through the halls here with all the children.
[01:46:00] I feel like I'm at Chuck E. Cheese.
[01:46:02] Yeah, probably.
[01:46:03] But then at that point, it's my fault for staying there.
[01:46:05] I think Suncoast is still my landing spot.
[01:46:09] I am curious about the Lulu.
[01:46:11] I feel like it could be.
[01:46:13] My hunch is that I will enjoy some aspects of it, but it will feel like I would just miss.
[01:46:23] I would just be like, I'd rather be at the Anaheim Motel when I'm there.
[01:46:28] That's just my hunch.
[01:46:30] All right.
[01:46:32] Excuse me.
[01:46:34] All right.
[01:46:34] Well, there you go, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
[01:46:36] That is the moderate hotels of Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
[01:46:40] Do you want to hear more depressing facts about Nuremberg defense and social murder?
[01:46:48] It was an action-packed episode where we talked about the good of humanity, the dregs of humanity.
[01:46:55] And I made this episode so much longer by trying to avoid hotels, which we obviously had so much to say about.
[01:47:01] We would have been done so much faster.
[01:47:03] Well, tune in next time where, I don't know, Tiki Room?
[01:47:10] Next question.
[01:47:11] A corporate board greenlights deep water oil drilling despite warnings of catastrophic environmental risks.
[01:47:17] Nuremberg defense?
[01:47:20] Well, this would be the only answer is Nuremberg defense.
[01:47:23] You know what Nuremberg defense is, right?
[01:47:27] I was just doing my job.
[01:47:28] Doing my job.
[01:47:29] Yeah.
[01:47:30] Yeah.
[01:47:30] Yeah.
[01:47:30] I got you.
[01:47:32] Okay.
[01:47:32] Great.
[01:47:32] Well, on that note.
[01:47:34] I'm comparing them to Nazis, just so we're clear.
[01:47:36] Gotcha.
[01:47:37] Oh, okay.
[01:47:38] Sorry.
[01:47:38] My character previously was.
[01:47:40] I would never do such a thing.
[01:47:42] They are all capitalist heroes.
[01:47:45] Well, listener, thank you for listening again.
[01:47:47] I think this was a fun episode.
[01:47:49] Thank you.
[01:47:49] There's good in the world.
[01:47:50] Most of it was.
[01:47:52] Returning my credit cards.
[01:47:54] Thank you to the Rohrbach family for booking.
[01:47:56] Thank you, Julie and Advance, for booking with concierge.
[01:47:59] Thank you for letting us share your images and the carnation story.
[01:48:03] Bob Gurr vehicle, et cetera.
[01:48:05] Thank you, Eric.
[01:48:06] Thank you, Dan.
[01:48:07] I want to say a preemptive thank you to the management of Desert Parms Hotel for their
[01:48:14] calmly worded letter to me.
[01:48:17] Thanks for connecting with us.
[01:48:19] Dan at earsup-podcast.com.
[01:48:22] I don't check my email.
[01:48:24] All right.
[01:48:24] Jimmy at earsup-podcast.com.
[01:48:27] Send it to Jason.
[01:48:28] Send it to Jason.
[01:48:30] Jason at earsup-podcast.com.
[01:48:32] There you go.
[01:48:32] So, ears up.
[01:48:33] Ears up in depth.
[01:48:35] Banth the Milk.
[01:48:36] Star Wars.
[01:48:37] There's a new Star Wars show out.
[01:48:39] I'm sure they're talking about it.
[01:48:42] Is Captain EO in this?
[01:48:45] Yes.
[01:48:46] Captain EO is in there.
[01:48:48] Like, for realsies?
[01:48:49] Not just a meme thing?
[01:48:51] Like, they're actually doing it?
[01:48:52] Oh, no.
[01:48:52] Oh, I thought you were asking, like, facetiously.
[01:48:54] No.
[01:48:55] In the new Star Wars show?
[01:48:57] I heard that.
[01:48:59] No joke.
[01:49:00] I'm seeing things about, like, there are characters that are, like, that line up with Captain EO.
[01:49:06] Like Hooter?
[01:49:07] Fuzzball?
[01:49:08] Yeah, like Hooter and Fuzzball.
[01:49:09] And apparently, there's a young, potentially Captain EO in there.
[01:49:13] That'd be so cool.
[01:49:16] Oh, man.
[01:49:17] In episode two, way, way out past the barrier, the skeleton crew cannibalized Fuzzball, Michael Jackson's sidekick from Disney Park 3D show Captain EO.
[01:49:27] Oh, man.
[01:49:27] Listen to Bantha Milk podcast to find out more about that.
[01:49:32] Yeah.
[01:49:33] I'm sure Rob has something to say.
[01:49:34] Pirate port KB, played by Kiriana Cratter, stops to get a grisly orange winged cat-like creature in a cage.
[01:49:41] Oh, no.
[01:49:42] That's Fuzzball from Captain EO.
[01:49:45] Skeleton crew, listen to Bantha Milk, listen to the Puny Pod about the Marvel Rewatch podcast.
[01:49:51] We've got four episodes about Endgame.
[01:49:54] Wow.
[01:49:55] That's a good movie.
[01:49:56] I gotta listen to that.
[01:49:57] I recorded with them for six hours.
[01:50:00] Oh, Lord.
[01:50:00] Wow.
[01:50:01] You beat my record.
[01:50:02] Wow.
[01:50:03] All right.
[01:50:04] Well, maybe you don't listen to that show.
[01:50:06] But anyway, either way, Scraping the Vault, we're Listener's Choice.
[01:50:10] We're going to watch Koyaanis Gatsi next.
[01:50:13] I don't know.
[01:50:13] That's definitely not Listener's Choice.
[01:50:15] Oh.
[01:50:17] Sorry.
[01:50:17] Dealer's.
[01:50:18] Host Choice.
[01:50:19] Dealer's Choice.
[01:50:20] But anyway, thank you for supporting us.
[01:50:22] Five-star reviews.
[01:50:23] Oh, hey, speaking of five-star reviews, guys.
[01:50:25] Oh, oh, oh.
[01:50:26] While we were talking, let's finish on a positive note.
[01:50:29] I thought you were going to grab this.
[01:50:31] I thought you were going to grab the Santa in the house thing.
[01:50:34] Oh, thank you for that, too.
[01:50:36] All right.
[01:50:37] But first, before that, now I want to go to Paris.
[01:50:40] This is a five-star review by Toy Soldier Mike.
[01:50:42] Hi, Mike.
[01:50:44] I was hoping this episode would be the restrooms of Disney, or perhaps Eric's favorite topic,
[01:50:50] IP in the park.
[01:50:52] Sending our kids to Walt Disney World in January.
[01:50:54] Eric does love being in the park.
[01:50:55] Very helpful.
[01:50:59] There you go.
[01:51:00] Five stars.
[01:51:01] Thank you, Toy Soldier Mike.
[01:51:02] Eric's long series of confessionals.
[01:51:04] IP in the park.
[01:51:07] Thank you, Mike.
[01:51:08] That was great.
[01:51:09] Code one.
[01:51:11] Happy holidays, everybody.
[01:51:15] If someone doesn't get me a fresh roll soon, I'm going to use my good list.
[01:51:58] Santa in the outhouse.
[01:51:59] Santa in an outhouse.
[01:52:01] He's implying that he's going to wipe his butt with the good list.
[01:52:06] Making it no longer the good list, I would imagine.
[01:52:08] People are going to be so confused if they listen to this not in the holiday season.
[01:52:13] That's what we aim for.
[01:52:19] Oh, wait.
