The Case of the Moderate Resorts: Part 1

Did you know there are hotels around the Disney resorts? I sure hope you listened to the last few episodes.

We moved on to the next level. It's time for Moderate resorts, or as Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels would consider themselves, Deluxe.

Strap in, everybody. We're offering some prime travel tips for the next few weeks. And as the song says, someday we'll talk about rides again. We swear.

[00:00:15] Welcome to The Supreme Resort, Land v. World, a podcast about Disneyland and Walt Disney World and which is the Supreme Resort.

[00:00:26] Each episode we will discuss and explore each resort, ride by ride, land by land, park by park, and for the rest of the show, hotel by hotel to determine which is better.

[00:00:37] I'm your host Jimmy and thank you for joining me on this quest to help the greater good of humanity answer this long elusive question, which is better?

[00:00:45] Disneyland or Walt Disney World? Joining me as always is Dan. Hi Dan.

[00:00:51] Hi, I love this country and I am looking forward to its future.

[00:00:56] Now is this a character?

[00:00:58] No, everything that I've been doing up until this point has been a character.

[00:01:04] Okay, I'm so glad to be free of that woke, woke person that I was playing the part of.

[00:01:12] Well, thank you. Glad to have you. Welcome to the show.

[00:01:16] Thank you.

[00:01:17] Real Dan.

[00:01:18] I've never been to a Disney park, but we'll get through it.

[00:01:20] Oh my gosh. That was a really convincing character you've played for the last four years.

[00:01:25] I know. The Haunted Mansion, all the Haunted Mansion shtick was really hard for me.

[00:01:29] I can imagine. You're digging deep.

[00:01:31] Yeah. I've never even seen Phantasmic.

[00:01:35] And we also have Eric. Hi, Eric.

[00:01:37] Hi.

[00:01:39] Great. That's Eric's new character.

[00:01:44] Yeah.

[00:01:45] Yep.

[00:01:46] Okay. So a couple things. Hi, Eric.

[00:01:48] Eric. So it's official that the Monsters University, Monsters England is taking over the Muppets courtyard and the Muppets are just moving down the street and they're taking over rock and roller coaster.

[00:02:03] Yeah.

[00:02:04] That's official.

[00:02:05] There's what, what is the only thing that's frustrating about this is that there's a Muppets take Manhattan joke just waiting in there, but it's hard. It's a really hard one to make.

[00:02:15] It's been a long time since I've seen it. So I can't get there with you, but I'm.

[00:02:18] I just mean the title, you know.

[00:02:21] Yo, I get you a Muppets take. Yeah.

[00:02:23] Do you think.

[00:02:24] It would take more effort to actually get to the joke then.

[00:02:27] Sure.

[00:02:28] Which we can do.

[00:02:29] Eric.

[00:02:30] Do you think Dr. Tief will say, hey, I love that idea.

[00:02:33] Yeah.

[00:02:34] There will inevitably be some kind of overlay like that or some kind of, you know, imagineering nod, but you know, they've been talking about getting rid of Aerosmith forever.

[00:02:44] And what a perfect idea to shut up the Muppet nerds, you know, like, yeah, calm down. We're just moving them over here.

[00:02:51] Well, there's also.

[00:02:52] And hey, that thing that you don't go to.

[00:02:53] We'll put the movie back over there, maybe.

[00:02:56] And there are some rumors that like whatever, I guess there's a cars thing over there.

[00:03:00] That's kind of.

[00:03:00] Yes.

[00:03:01] And it's going to be a half assed villains thing.

[00:03:03] It's got a good screen.

[00:03:05] They might just put the Muppet vision in there.

[00:03:10] Right.

[00:03:10] Right.

[00:03:10] Which makes sense.

[00:03:11] Which I think was saying.

[00:03:12] Yeah.

[00:03:12] The villains thing is a, is their sort of playground to figure out what's going to work for the land.

[00:03:19] Which is going behind Big Thunder Mountain.

[00:03:22] Mm-hmm.

[00:03:23] Anyway.

[00:03:24] Yeah.

[00:03:25] That's it for the news segment.

[00:03:28] Except Dan, you're.

[00:03:28] That was a great segment.

[00:03:29] You're going to.

[00:03:30] Hello.

[00:03:32] It's all the news that's fit to cover.

[00:03:35] It's.

[00:03:36] Well, I guess.

[00:03:37] Disney news.

[00:03:37] If we're talking about Disneyland stuff, everything.

[00:03:41] Yeah.

[00:03:41] Actually, I've been waiting for this moment and I totally forgot that.

[00:03:45] You're going today.

[00:03:46] Okay.

[00:03:46] I'm going today after we record and I'm going to go check in.

[00:03:51] And I'm going to go check in at the Ayers Orange Hotel, which is a fantastic hotel.

[00:03:56] I'm sure I've mentioned it before as one of my honorable mentions.

[00:03:59] And I'm mentioning it right now as an honorable mention as well.

[00:04:02] And I'm going to be driving.

[00:04:03] I'm going to drive up to five.

[00:04:04] I'm going to get off on the city drive.

[00:04:06] That's right.

[00:04:06] The city where all the things happen.

[00:04:09] The glorious city of Anaheim, where you can go to.

[00:04:12] So anyway, I'm going to.

[00:04:16] So there's this moment that I've been waiting for, which is that since it recently reopened

[00:04:23] after the pandemic, there's been this sort of place where like things haven't entirely

[00:04:29] been open ever.

[00:04:30] Like there was never a parade and a splash mountain ish ride and a phantasmic and like,

[00:04:38] like all of the things open at the same time.

[00:04:41] I think we're there unless they closed something with the exception of a great moments of Mr.

[00:04:48] Lincoln, but it's been like a mansion.

[00:04:50] Right.

[00:04:51] Well, okay.

[00:04:52] Come on.

[00:04:53] Dan doesn't like that.

[00:04:55] Well, meaning that the is the queue officially open.

[00:04:58] No.

[00:04:59] Parts of it are.

[00:05:00] Oh, okay.

[00:05:01] Because fresh baked had a video I didn't watch.

[00:05:05] My wife was there a couple weeks ago.

[00:05:09] And yeah, it was.

[00:05:09] She said the virtual queue was annoying.

[00:05:13] Yeah, but you can still get it.

[00:05:15] It's not one of those things where if you don't get it at 7am, you're screwed.

[00:05:18] Right.

[00:05:18] Well, yeah, it's not like getting into like guardians cosmic rewind.

[00:05:22] Right.

[00:05:23] Or something.

[00:05:24] And so Dan, I want to get back to that, Eric, pin in that cosmic rewind.

[00:05:28] Oh, Thunder Mountain's closed.

[00:05:29] Nevermind.

[00:05:30] Oh, that's right.

[00:05:30] Well, no, Thunder Mountain doesn't close till January, does it?

[00:05:32] No, it's closed for refurbishment.

[00:05:35] Already.

[00:05:35] I'm looking at the map right now.

[00:05:37] Yeah.

[00:05:37] Well, they need to get Tiana's open.

[00:05:39] We're still not there.

[00:05:41] Tiana's is open.

[00:05:42] Yeah.

[00:05:42] Then they can close Big Thunder.

[00:05:44] I'm going to put that red hat on there and ride it with a big frown.

[00:05:50] Okay.

[00:05:50] So, yeah, I mean, Dan, something's going to be closed always.

[00:05:56] Right.

[00:05:57] But I think the point remains that everything just kind of firing on all cylinders short of

[00:06:03] one thing that's closed for refurbishment, which is going to be always.

[00:06:05] Well, not maybe now, but there was a time when like you would have these moments here and there, which is like, okay, literally everything is firing on all cylinders.

[00:06:18] And I don't know, maybe the new model is that like, because they don't have a slow time ever, then yeah, maybe something will always be down.

[00:06:25] But like, I really miss those times where it's just like, everything is open.

[00:06:31] Everything's working.

[00:06:32] Everything's great.

[00:06:34] And it like, I don't know, it was kind of cool.

[00:06:35] Well, I don't think there will also be a time, Dan, where everything's working.

[00:06:39] Maybe everything will be open, but.

[00:06:41] Well, no, that's true.

[00:06:42] Yeah, I get your point.

[00:06:42] That's true.

[00:06:43] So to that end, I don't want to speculate.

[00:06:47] I don't want to spend time speculating, but if you guys have any genuine insight, Thunder Mountain's closing everywhere.

[00:06:54] Disney World's Thunder Mountain's closing.

[00:06:56] Are you implying that it's racist?

[00:06:58] Are you implying that it's racist?

[00:07:00] Disney World's Thunder Mountain closes in January.

[00:07:03] So all three of, well, three of the big Thunder Mountains that I'm aware of are going to be closed at the same time.

[00:07:10] Huh.

[00:07:11] Do we speculate that there's some kind of overarching theme that's going to be added to all three?

[00:07:18] More goats with dynamite?

[00:07:20] Perhaps.

[00:07:21] I don't know.

[00:07:21] I know they are talking about the dynamite at the end of the Disneyland version is going to be added to Disney World.

[00:07:27] Maybe that's it.

[00:07:28] Maybe they're adding them all.

[00:07:30] It should be.

[00:07:30] And I know that, like, that effect doesn't always work as intended at Disneyland, and maybe they're just gussing it up a little bit.

[00:07:39] Yeah, I mean, I get that.

[00:07:41] They're redoing the track at Disney World.

[00:07:43] They're totally redoing the whole track.

[00:07:45] Oh, wow.

[00:07:45] They're gutting that thing.

[00:07:47] I think maybe Disneyland is the one that Tony doesn't like because it kind of loses its steam at the end, right?

[00:07:56] Well, that's the one he designed.

[00:07:58] I know.

[00:07:58] I mean, he designed that one, but he's always been disappointed from what I heard that, like, toward the end, the last third of it, you're just kind of like, hey.

[00:08:07] Well, he made up for it at Disneyland Paris.

[00:08:09] Oh, yeah.

[00:08:10] That is for sure.

[00:08:10] That thing is fantastic.

[00:08:12] That's more to come on that.

[00:08:14] So, to the show, to this episode, listener, just as you've noticed from the title, we're just all in on hotels.

[00:08:21] That's just the way it is.

[00:08:22] We love hotels.

[00:08:23] We love hotels.

[00:08:23] We feel like it's as part of the conversation of which is better overall between the two resorts.

[00:08:28] Hotels are a critical part of the conversation.

[00:08:38] Welcome dear friends to a world full of dreams.

[00:08:41] Where hotel prices hit absurd streams.

[00:08:44] Stay in the magic way Disney's high field risk.

[00:08:48] Harbor, Bo Boulevard, bring your own sheets.

[00:08:51] Hotels are foods really to say.

[00:09:12] Where the beds are themed and the fees come to play.

[00:09:15] The land of each hand that you're paying the toll.

[00:09:19] It's just your whole paycheck.

[00:10:20] Now, again, for the most part, people who go to Disneyland, I would say a fair majority are driving there, not staying there.

[00:10:28] But there are, as we've discussed, are scores of hotels around the resort.

[00:10:33] So, people are clearly staying.

[00:10:35] Like Dan, for example, he's driving in, but it would be a hassle for him to turn around and drive the two hours back.

[00:10:40] So, he's staying there as a quote unquote local.

[00:10:43] And so, where you stay, how we stay, the transportation once we're there, the distance, the price, all of it's relevant.

[00:10:50] And we really enjoyed the value resort conversation.

[00:10:53] So, we're just going to finish it.

[00:10:55] So, bear with us and we will talk about rides again.

[00:10:58] And back to the pin I'd ask you to put in, Eric.

[00:11:01] How do we do, just listener for example, we haven't done Small World.

[00:11:05] We really haven't done Trader Sam's, I don't think.

[00:11:08] No, we've talked about it so many times.

[00:11:10] We'll never do Tiki Room again.

[00:11:12] No, wait, wait, wait, wait.

[00:11:13] We might.

[00:11:15] Come on.

[00:11:15] But like, how do we cover Cosmic Rewind?

[00:11:18] How do we cover Tron?

[00:11:19] How do we cover whatever?

[00:11:21] And, you know, this show can never truly be over officially.

[00:11:26] As long as there's imagination left in the room.

[00:11:28] Indeed.

[00:11:29] And the Haunted Mansion queue is about to reopen.

[00:11:32] We have to re-litigate that because part of the reason Haunted Mansion Florida won was because of the interactive queue.

[00:11:40] So, now that we have more of an extended queue and a Memento Mori type store, we have to re-litigate in some way.

[00:11:47] We have to redo Tiana's.

[00:11:48] I'm hearing that as a threat.

[00:11:51] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:11:51] I don't know about have to.

[00:11:53] Yeah.

[00:11:53] Well, I think we have to.

[00:11:55] Personally, I think we have to.

[00:11:56] And then we have to cover Tiana's.

[00:11:57] Personally, I think you should just have Jeremy back and I'll edit the show.

[00:12:04] We, you know, Tiana's.

[00:12:06] But the point is it's kind of there's always going to be something.

[00:12:09] Now, the advantage to those episodes is we don't have to go back and explore the history because the history is the history of the history.

[00:12:15] Yeah.

[00:12:16] So, we just have to kind of brush up on why everything won and then how is it different now and does that change the verdict?

[00:12:26] Famously, the Supreme Court can overturn decisions and so can we.

[00:12:31] Really?

[00:12:32] Wait.

[00:12:32] When has such a thing happened?

[00:12:34] I haven't heard about this.

[00:12:35] Mm-hmm.

[00:12:35] We've been talking about re-litigating episodes ever since I've been here.

[00:12:40] Yeah.

[00:12:40] And now we're going to do it.

[00:12:42] Oh, sure.

[00:12:43] Yeah.

[00:12:43] Okay.

[00:12:44] We're going to have a plan.

[00:12:45] We're going to have a schedule.

[00:12:46] We're going to have guests back on.

[00:12:48] Wow.

[00:12:54] So, is and I think we've said this before but just as a reminder, it's like opening up the whole like Disneyland resort area a little bit as we need to like talk about the.

[00:13:07] Yeah.

[00:13:07] Benihana.

[00:13:07] Yeah.

[00:13:08] Benihana versus the other place.

[00:13:10] You know, that kind of stuff.

[00:13:10] Versus Teppanito and et cetera, et cetera.

[00:13:13] So, yeah.

[00:13:13] As we open up.

[00:13:14] Which is ridiculous in its own way but that is also a feature of Disneyland resort is that.

[00:13:20] That's right.

[00:13:21] You're across the street from stuff.

[00:13:22] That's right.

[00:13:23] It's the reality of the resort with which we're being presented.

[00:13:26] Right.

[00:13:26] For example.

[00:13:27] You go see a murder mystery.

[00:13:28] Oh my God.

[00:13:30] For example, I think we, you know, where Disney World property, I think is where we're going to stop with Disney World.

[00:13:36] Yeah.

[00:13:37] Okay.

[00:13:37] If you're off property, that's a different conversation.

[00:13:40] What is Disneyland resort property?

[00:13:42] And I think if art doesn't go there, that's not Disney World.

[00:13:46] That makes sense.

[00:13:46] Like within the bounds of art.

[00:13:47] Yeah.

[00:13:47] Yeah.

[00:13:47] Yeah.

[00:13:47] I think that's a reasonable.

[00:13:49] Do we do pirates versus the pirate dinner show versus medieval times?

[00:13:54] Versus medieval times.

[00:13:57] Man.

[00:13:58] Cause I haven't seen the pirates one.

[00:13:59] Oh, you know what?

[00:14:00] We should.

[00:14:00] No, no, no.

[00:14:01] It's the hoopty do review.

[00:14:03] Oh, yes.

[00:14:05] Yes.

[00:14:05] There we go.

[00:14:06] That's it exactly.

[00:14:06] Hoopty do review versus medieval times.

[00:14:10] Anyway.

[00:14:11] But yeah, the point is that there's a broader conversation that the show's not going anywhere.

[00:14:17] But the for right now, we're going to talk about hotels.

[00:14:20] So we did the value resorts at Disney World.

[00:14:23] They're called value at Disneyland.

[00:14:25] They're called moderate.

[00:14:28] We've covered that.

[00:14:29] Now the next category, the Disney World category is moderate.

[00:14:33] The Disneyland called category is deluxe.

[00:14:37] So if you're looking at this on the Disneyland website, you're looking at deluxe hotels, that is considered a moderate property.

[00:14:43] Uh, it with, you know, basically what that means is amenities quality, that sort of thing.

[00:14:48] That's what makes it a moderate resort at Disneyland Disney World and us at Disneyland.

[00:14:53] So there are 13 moderate resorts at the Disneyland resort.

[00:14:57] There are four moderate resorts at Disney World.

[00:15:00] So for this episode, we're going to cover the first half of half ish of the Disneyland resort.

[00:15:07] Good neighbor hotels in the moderate category, AKA deluxe.

[00:15:14] We're going to do this in order of price to be very clear.

[00:15:19] Um, so what we're going to do is we're going to order price.

[00:15:21] What I did this time, like I did last time is I just picked a random two nights in August with two day park hopper passes.

[00:15:29] I did that for both Disneyland and Disney World.

[00:15:32] So we can get a price range.

[00:15:34] And unless you guys have anything else you want to add, I think we get started.

[00:15:39] Uh, I just want to add again, I'm very hopeful for what is going to be happening in this country.

[00:15:45] Okay, great.

[00:15:46] Thank you.

[00:15:47] I'm glad real Dan is here.

[00:15:48] Happy to be here.

[00:15:49] Okay.

[00:15:50] So the first resort in the moderate slash deluxe category at Disneyland and the Disneyland resort is the Sonesta Anaheim resort area,

[00:16:02] which is more than one mile.

[00:16:04] And there is transportation to Disneyland resort that is available for a fee.

[00:16:10] I'm assuming that's art.

[00:16:12] That's a fair assumption.

[00:16:13] Let me see.

[00:16:14] Let me pull up that resource.

[00:16:15] While he's looking at that, the Sonesta Anaheim, uh, the Sonesta.

[00:16:21] Yes, sweets, Anaheim.

[00:16:23] Is that what it's called?

[00:16:25] Everything sweets is what that stands for.

[00:16:26] Everything sweet.

[00:16:27] So that's, this is not that.

[00:16:29] Sinesta Anaheim resort area is not because sweets is a different category in the Disneyland website.

[00:16:34] So that's next door.

[00:16:35] I believe this one.

[00:16:37] I'm telling you, I'm looking at it now.

[00:16:39] The Sinesta everything sweets is next to the Sinesta Anaheim resort area.

[00:16:43] I see what you're saying.

[00:16:43] Both of them are on I-5.

[00:16:45] Uh, this one is just north of Gene Autry way.

[00:16:49] Yes.

[00:16:50] Gene Autry way being.

[00:16:53] Where Gene Autry lives.

[00:16:56] That's right.

[00:16:57] Clearly.

[00:16:57] Uh, so it's southeast of the Disneyland resort, due east of the parking lot where the Disney cast members park that will soon be some kind of other thing, be at a third gate or whatever we've speculated on.

[00:17:12] What is that parking lot called?

[00:17:13] Anybody?

[00:17:15] Or.

[00:17:15] Toy Story.

[00:17:15] Uh, wait.

[00:17:17] Which parking lot?

[00:17:18] Toy Story.

[00:17:19] Oh, Toy Story.

[00:17:20] Yeah.

[00:17:20] So this is due east of the Toy Story parking lot on Gene Autry way.

[00:17:24] Mm hmm.

[00:17:24] Huh.

[00:17:25] Okay.

[00:17:25] So, okay.

[00:17:27] Uh, so it's, uh, it originally was a holiday in and so any reviews that you see online,

[00:17:37] um, P4 2020, which I have seen them, then they're very negative.

[00:17:43] Oh.

[00:17:44] Might be not about this place.

[00:17:45] So this is good that it's not a holiday in any.

[00:17:48] Yeah.

[00:17:48] I guess holiday and didn't run it very well.

[00:17:50] Um, so they got an outdoor pool, hot tub.

[00:17:54] They have a restaurant and bar saying that, uh, I believe the restaurant and bar is called

[00:17:59] the burger place.

[00:18:00] So don't get too excited.

[00:18:01] Um, I'm in, they got a fitness center.

[00:18:05] I don't have confirmation on whether or not the TVs are color, but we can assume that they

[00:18:09] are not.

[00:18:10] Um, it's a callback baby.

[00:18:14] Uh, they, there is no free parking.

[00:18:17] Um, there is an art shuttle by the way, there is an art shuttle.

[00:18:20] It's the Manchester line, which is the one of the longest.

[00:18:24] So, uh, you might actually want to consider taking an Uber if you don't want to sit in

[00:18:32] a bus for potentially as long as 40 minutes.

[00:18:34] Um, yikes for, for that short a distance.

[00:18:39] Well, yeah.

[00:18:39] Cause it has to stop places.

[00:18:42] Yeah.

[00:18:42] Um, hold on.

[00:18:43] Let me take a look at the line.

[00:18:44] The rest of the while he's looking at that.

[00:18:46] The Sinesta hotel has a restaurant.

[00:18:49] He mentioned the burger place.

[00:18:50] It is open for breakfast and dinner.

[00:18:52] It does not appear to have a lunch menu.

[00:18:55] There's a grab and go breakfast daily from six to 10 and then a dinner from five to 10.

[00:19:00] They are closed on Mondays.

[00:19:02] The restaurant, not the hotel.

[00:19:04] The restaurant.

[00:19:04] The dinner menu includes a build your own burger.

[00:19:06] Slipping all your stuff on the sidewalk.

[00:19:08] That's right.

[00:19:09] There's a build your own burger.

[00:19:11] There's craft, draft beer, bottles and cans.

[00:19:14] There's red wine sparkling.

[00:19:16] Uh, not so much burgers, tacos, et cetera, et cetera.

[00:19:20] I don't have confirmation on the length of the Manchester line.

[00:19:22] I have looked at it before though, because, uh, the airs is on the Manchester line.

[00:19:28] And every time I've looked at it, I'm just like, you know what?

[00:19:30] I'll just drive.

[00:19:31] Um, but if you're not driving Uber, I would just look at your options.

[00:19:35] Uber getting.

[00:19:37] Yeah.

[00:19:37] Don't walk.

[00:19:38] Oh God.

[00:19:39] Do not walk.

[00:19:39] Uh, I mean, you could, but I, it's not one of those.

[00:19:43] It's not that far, but yeah.

[00:19:44] It's not walkable, but you could, I guess is what I'm trying to say.

[00:19:48] Um, it's more than a mile.

[00:19:50] Yeah.

[00:19:50] Yeah.

[00:19:51] Um, be, keep in mind though, that Uber getting out of Disneyland can be very sketchy.

[00:19:59] It's like, it's basically like something out of Mad Max.

[00:20:02] Like they'll just call you and be like, Hey, can you meet me at the McDonald's?

[00:20:04] It's like, it's a mess.

[00:20:06] Um, so you might want to trick.

[00:20:08] If you do end up getting Ubers off of the property, I would recommend doing it from one of the

[00:20:14] hotels.

[00:20:15] Um, cause it's probably going to be less of that, but, um, head over to Tony Romo's or something.

[00:20:21] I think, I think get away from Harbor to be honest, because that's where I'll go to walk

[00:20:27] into one of those neighborhoods.

[00:20:28] And yeah, I, I, I would, I'm considering doing this for when I go to the airs, I would just

[00:20:34] take, if I'm about to leave, I would take the monorail to the hotel or hotel ish, and then just get an Uber

[00:20:39] from the hotel.

[00:20:40] I was going to say a hotel or downtown Disney, maybe even that.

[00:20:43] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:20:44] Cause there's a, there's a full like turnabout there that, that are taxing get into.

[00:20:49] Yeah. Harbor when it comes to ride sharing is a, it is a absolute nightmare right now.

[00:20:55] Um, can I, can I just bring up another thing about ride share that, um, is, I found interesting.

[00:21:02] The last, was it the last time I was there?

[00:21:05] Maybe a couple of times ago.

[00:21:06] Uh, really a lot of the ride share folks want to do these short trips.

[00:21:13] Like they want to be, want to be involved because they are getting like a minimum sort

[00:21:19] sort of fair for these close quick trips.

[00:21:24] Mm-hmm.

[00:21:25] So they get more from doing your quick trip from your hotel to Disneyland and vice versa.

[00:21:31] Then they are getting to bring you to the airport.

[00:21:36] So that makes sense.

[00:21:37] Yeah.

[00:21:37] More bang, like the more bang for your buck kind of thing.

[00:21:40] Like they can, they're getting more per minute.

[00:21:43] Right.

[00:21:44] So in the morning when you need to take your, your lift to the airport, they don't want to

[00:21:50] pick that fare up because they're going to make more by doing five trips to Disneyland

[00:21:55] from local hotels.

[00:21:57] So, uh, book your, book your ride share early and get somebody to commit to it.

[00:22:04] Because the last time I was there, I almost didn't make my flight because I finally had

[00:22:11] to pay a dude extra.

[00:22:13] I, Oh, are you saying he's like, I'm not, I'm not making enough to bring you to the airport.

[00:22:19] And I said, how about we just cancel this trip and I pay you directly.

[00:22:24] And I gave him 50 bucks to bring me to the airport, which is ridiculous to go the several

[00:22:30] miles down the street to long beach.

[00:22:32] So are you, are you suggesting that maybe a way around that Harbor Boulevard problem is

[00:22:37] to schedule it like earlier in the day and yes, pay more, but at least have that ride out

[00:22:44] secured.

[00:22:45] Uh, yeah, pretty much.

[00:22:46] Cause if you do, if you schedule something on Lyft or Uber, like just know when you're

[00:22:52] going to be leaving and, and schedule it because if you're doing it at the time, you're probably

[00:22:57] going to pay extra because it's a popular time to go to the airport or whatever.

[00:23:02] So you're going to get certain.

[00:23:03] He's talking about the airport.

[00:23:05] Oh, okay.

[00:23:06] Okay.

[00:23:06] And like, if you're trying to do a regular Uber, you're better off trying to get an Uber

[00:23:10] to your hotel.

[00:23:11] It's a mile away because they're going to make more money.

[00:23:13] Cause they're going to go from your hotel back to Disneyland, back to the hotel, back

[00:23:16] to Disneyland.

[00:23:16] Right.

[00:23:16] These little one mile trips are nothing.

[00:23:19] I just know.

[00:23:20] I just know I've had consistently bad experiences and heard from people around me about consistently

[00:23:25] bad experiences, trying to leave.

[00:23:27] If you're trying to leave from Harbor Boulevard, cause it is, it is just, it is absolute chaos.

[00:23:32] Yeah.

[00:23:33] And Disney won't help because it's not their place to write.

[00:23:36] Right.

[00:23:36] I like your idea of taking the monorail out and going from less chaotic, the far lot.

[00:23:42] Cause anybody going that way is probably going to their hotel Disneyland or whatever.

[00:23:45] Or, or the grand Californian.

[00:23:48] Of course.

[00:23:48] I think that, I mean, I think the chances of them being outright chaotic is probably way,

[00:23:54] way less at grand Californian.

[00:23:56] I don't know.

[00:23:56] I might try it out.

[00:23:57] No, I think you're right.

[00:23:58] You should try it while you're there.

[00:23:59] Yeah, for sure.

[00:24:00] Uh, some other things to note about Sinesta, the in room amenities, uh, they have connecting

[00:24:05] rooms, there's dining tables and chairs, et cetera.

[00:24:08] There's an art shuttle.

[00:24:09] They do have family suites with bunk beds.

[00:24:13] Uh, there's a fitness center, which looks pretty spacious.

[00:24:16] There's probably four treadmills.

[00:24:18] There's some free weights, et cetera.

[00:24:20] Uh, they do have a swimming spool and a spa, swimming spool.

[00:24:23] Um, they do have parking.

[00:24:26] Uh, it is.

[00:24:28] Reviews are saying it was a little noisy at times.

[00:24:30] It's on the freeway.

[00:24:31] I can totally see that.

[00:24:32] It's pet friendly.

[00:24:33] Also, I mean, not to be classist here, but I am because I'm, I'm no longer in character.

[00:24:39] Um, because it is the least expensive.

[00:24:42] You're going to get more of that motel six adjacent crowd.

[00:24:46] Sure.

[00:24:47] Um, the, uh, other things you can do, of course, they, they do have a meeting space

[00:24:53] over 2000 square feet of event space.

[00:24:55] And I think finally, and most significantly their Pacifica ballroom offers 1408 square feet

[00:25:02] of elegant, configurable space and can accommodate up to 120 guests for your prime wedding in Anaheim.

[00:25:10] Yeah.

[00:25:12] Or your live podcast event.

[00:25:16] Ooh.

[00:25:18] Uh, I did watch some videos on each of these and the vibe check that I got from this place is, it, it feels a little bit like, uh, it's like a charter school where it's like, I think they're doing something good here.

[00:25:37] But I just, there's sort of that lingering feeling that like maybe some part of the wall will be made of paper, you know?

[00:25:46] Mm-hmm.

[00:25:46] It was a holiday in to begin with, but they do have a wedding venue.

[00:25:51] So there you go.

[00:25:52] Okay.

[00:25:53] Uh, okay.

[00:25:54] We're going to move on to the Hyatt place at Anaheim resort convention center.

[00:25:59] Now this is between a half mile and one mile.

[00:26:01] Transportation is available for a fee.

[00:26:04] This is of course at the convention center.

[00:26:08] Um, it is just across the street on the Southwestern side of Harbor Boulevard, uh, from Toy Story parking lot.

[00:26:19] Mm-hmm.

[00:26:20] It's next to the Clarion hotel we talked about in the last episode.

[00:26:23] Clarion is technically a bit closer to Toy Story.

[00:26:27] Yeah.

[00:26:27] And directly adjacent to Cortana Inn and Suites.

[00:26:31] Yep.

[00:26:32] And.

[00:26:33] Your art stop here is going to be, let me look, the Grand Plaza line at the convention center ish, or no, that's it.

[00:26:44] I mean, unless you want to walk, which why would you?

[00:26:48] Um, amen.

[00:26:50] Yeah.

[00:26:51] And get the one, get the one closest to the Marriott.

[00:26:57] Now the Hyatt place, I believe was a sister property to the Hyatt house managed by the same people.

[00:27:04] Mm-hmm.

[00:27:05] We just didn't get the tour.

[00:27:06] Now, if you are a Marriott fan, it's going to look a little bit like a town place suites or a Spring Hill suites.

[00:27:14] You'll have two beds in the main living area and then you'll have a fold-out couch with a little, uh, ottoman of sorts and a TV that you share.

[00:27:24] Between those two spaces.

[00:27:26] Okay.

[00:27:28] Nice.

[00:27:29] Uh, let's see.

[00:27:30] It opened in the mid 2010s.

[00:27:33] It was designed to cater both to convention attendees and Disneyland visitors.

[00:27:37] Uh, flexible room configurations.

[00:27:39] They have, uh, complimentary hot back breakfast buffet.

[00:27:42] It's not just, you know, uh, uh, granola bar.

[00:27:46] Um, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, eggs, hash browns, waffles, and more runny, runny, warm eggs.

[00:27:52] Uh, doesn't say whether or not the TV are powdery.

[00:27:56] No, they're spongy eggs.

[00:27:58] They're runny.

[00:27:58] Yes.

[00:27:59] They'd be other kind.

[00:27:59] Okay.

[00:28:00] Yes.

[00:28:01] I believe I'm going to assume that the TVs are not in color because it doesn't say, uh, on site parking.

[00:28:07] They will charge you for that.

[00:28:09] Uh, let's see.

[00:28:11] Uh, they praise the complimentary breakfast, cleanliness.

[00:28:15] The guests do.

[00:28:16] Is it walkable?

[00:28:17] No, I wouldn't say it is.

[00:28:19] It's less than a mile.

[00:28:20] Less than a mile.

[00:28:21] But you've got to walk around the entire damn resort.

[00:28:25] Well, it's, I mean, it's just down Harbor.

[00:28:27] So.

[00:28:28] It is.

[00:28:29] It's, it's one of those weird things.

[00:28:32] I've done that walk before, but I've done that walk from, from Pixar Pier hotel where I can look at the Incredicoaster from my room.

[00:28:43] And if I want to go to the Incredicoaster, it will take me about 45 minutes.

[00:28:48] Yeah.

[00:28:48] It's still a half mile.

[00:28:50] Here we go.

[00:28:50] Uh, from our Supreme robot that I have programmed the pros of walking the distances about it's a point seven miles design entrance straight up Harbor Boulevard.

[00:29:01] So it's easy.

[00:29:01] You're on your own schedule.

[00:29:03] Uh, pros for taking the art energy energy conservation.

[00:29:08] It's arguing with itself.

[00:29:10] Uh, recommendation.

[00:29:11] Here we go.

[00:29:12] Uh, this is what the doctor robot says.

[00:29:15] Uh, morning.

[00:29:16] You should walk and evening.

[00:29:18] You should art.

[00:29:19] Hmm.

[00:29:20] There you go.

[00:29:21] Uh, also I'd like to highlight the, one of the restaurants within the Hyatt place is the placery.

[00:29:29] The placery is the name of the restaurant.

[00:29:32] So thoughtfully, uh, thoughtfully sourced, cleverly, cleverly curated menu of Parmesan French fries, chicken Caesar, turkey pesto sandwich, chicken bacon sandwich, a burger restaurant.

[00:29:43] Yeah.

[00:29:44] Chicken wings.

[00:29:45] Yeah.

[00:29:46] And then of course they have the breakfast bar we've mentioned and they have a market.

[00:29:50] Oh, I was hoping your menu would end at fries.

[00:29:53] It's just, I was expecting fries.

[00:29:56] Um, yeah.

[00:29:58] And in terms of, I would say the walk or drive thing, I would walk toy story parking.

[00:30:03] Don't walk all the way.

[00:30:04] That's silly.

[00:30:04] Um, toy story parking and then take the shuttle and then take the shuttle from there.

[00:30:09] Um, yeah, I mean, neighborhood wise, you're kind of in the middle of that.

[00:30:17] You're just like, this is just nothing but like just corporate crap.

[00:30:25] Like convention center and near Disneyland.

[00:30:28] So you're just going to get Ruth's Chris and all of these other places to eat food.

[00:30:33] It's all catered to the, like the shiny polo shirt crowd.

[00:30:37] I think.

[00:30:37] Yeah.

[00:30:38] Um, I wonder with hotels with, we're talking about like this, when the toy story parking

[00:30:44] lot becomes a third gate or becomes what happens to the value of this property?

[00:30:49] Cause it's across the street.

[00:30:52] I, that's an excellent question, but I, I think knock it down.

[00:30:57] Yeah.

[00:30:57] I think what happens is Disney offers them a lot of money.

[00:31:02] Whoops.

[00:31:03] We're working on our new third gate and we accidentally knocked your hotel over.

[00:31:06] Oops.

[00:31:07] All third gate.

[00:31:08] Um, uh, yeah.

[00:31:10] I think another thing to note here is I think like a lot of these is that it's a part of the

[00:31:17] Hyatt family of brands.

[00:31:20] So if you are a loyalist of that particular thing and you're staying at the Hyatt versus

[00:31:25] staying at the Disneyland hotel where there is no rewards program, you might get an upgrade

[00:31:29] to a family suite or you might get some kind of other amenity or benefit that I've, I've

[00:31:35] found in my own limited experience with Hyatt, especially in this area that if they can upgrade

[00:31:40] and I, I, this is, I wasn't even a member.

[00:31:42] I was just asking, not even asking nicely.

[00:31:44] I was asking unrelated questions nicely.

[00:31:47] The guy at the front desk was like, uh, I could upgrade your upgrade your room.

[00:31:52] There's like no one staying in the nicer one.

[00:31:55] I'm like, uh, okay.

[00:31:56] Nice.

[00:31:58] You mean you were treating a, a, a fellow human being as a human being?

[00:32:02] I was still in character at that time.

[00:32:04] Oh, I see.

[00:32:06] Yeah.

[00:32:07] Uh, anyway, anything else about the Hyatt place at Anaheim?

[00:32:11] Uh, let's see what the robot says about some fun facts.

[00:32:14] Let's see.

[00:32:14] I've been in the lobby.

[00:32:15] It's nice.

[00:32:16] Our 4.5, uh, marked the return of the Hyatt brand to Anaheim after 20 year absence.

[00:32:24] Take that.

[00:32:25] Um, yeah, it's not cheap, but you're getting, you're, you're not paying for nothing.

[00:32:30] I think, I think that the Hyatt is, I get, it's, it's like it possibly, I know Hilt with Hilton and Marriott, like you could generally say, you know what you're getting, but sometimes, you know, it's like Trader Joe's where like, when it goes South, it's really dark.

[00:32:50] Like, you know, like, like most things at Trader Joe's you can count on being good, but then when it's bad, it's like a really dark existential experience where it's just like, this is like a failure of such an epic proportion.

[00:33:04] So like when Hilton or Marriott doesn't go well, it's like awful.

[00:33:11] But from what I have, what I understand about Hyatt, it's generally very consistently kind of C plus B minus kind of stuff, you know?

[00:33:20] Yeah.

[00:33:20] Okay.

[00:33:22] Uh, yeah.

[00:33:23] And, uh, I think that the free breakfast adds a lot for sure.

[00:33:27] Parking costs money, but, um, there you go.

[00:33:30] Like, I think you said you nailed it down.

[00:33:32] I think this is catering to the convention center people.

[00:33:35] And oh, by the way, Disneyland's there.

[00:33:36] Right.

[00:33:37] Uh, okay.

[00:33:38] We're going to go back.

[00:33:39] We're going to venture back to just across the street from the Sinesta.

[00:33:45] Your attention, please.

[00:33:48] Hey everybody.

[00:33:49] This is Eric from con C ears and the Supreme resort.

[00:33:56] Um, let's try that again.

[00:33:58] Hey everybody.

[00:34:00] From con C ears and the Supreme resort.

[00:34:03] I am here to tell you today that there is an opportunity for you to help people around the nation.

[00:34:11] Uh, I'm talking about bike.

[00:34:14] M S Colorado, 20, 25.

[00:34:17] The deal is that multiple sclerosis is a horrible disease and it affects people that we know.

[00:34:24] Uh, for instance, friend of the show, Christie, you remember her from earlier episodes of this show.

[00:34:35] Uh, her family and friends have started a fundraiser through bike.

[00:34:41] M S Colorado.

[00:34:42] We're trying to strike out multiple sclerosis with funds.

[00:34:46] Uh, so if you have some extra cash this holiday season, please head over to bike.

[00:34:54] M S Colorado and look out for Christie's cycle paths.

[00:34:58] Uh, Christie is spelled C H R I S T I E.

[00:35:03] And her cycle paths, uh, are like the psychopaths that you would think on bicycles.

[00:35:08] Um, just saying.

[00:35:12] And we're, we're going to have a, uh, a link in the show notes.

[00:35:15] So that's probably the easier way to access all of this.

[00:35:18] Please head over, consider spending some, some of your, your, your money this season on, on a, a cure for this disease.

[00:35:29] There, there are so many things that can help us mitigate the disease of M S right now, but it's not a cure.

[00:35:36] It does not bring people back to full health.

[00:35:39] Please help us find something better.

[00:35:42] Please help us bring our friends with M S back to full health.

[00:35:46] Uh, head over to bike.com.

[00:35:48] MS Colorado and look at our link in the show notes to directly help Christie and her family.

[00:35:55] Uh, yeah, here you go.

[00:35:56] Uh, it's in the thing.

[00:35:58] And if you want to listen to more ads, uh, they're coming up right now.

[00:36:08] More or less.

[00:36:10] More or less.

[00:36:11] Yeah.

[00:36:11] And we're going to go to the Hampton Inn and Suites Anaheim Resort Convention Center.

[00:36:16] Now this is on the eastern most point of the toy story parking lot on Catella Avenue.

[00:36:21] It's at the corner of, uh, Catella and Haster.

[00:36:26] Not Harbor.

[00:36:28] Fairly close to I five, but not as close as the Sonesta or Cambria.

[00:36:33] Uh, art wise.

[00:36:35] You could take the seven, eight combo across the street at the seven 11 where the clerks are always.

[00:36:43] Oh, so charming and friendly.

[00:36:45] Um, it's kind of across the street ish to the garden walk.

[00:36:54] If you consider that you also have to cross several other streets laterally.

[00:36:59] Um, I mean, it's not, not close, I guess is what I'm trying to say.

[00:37:03] Yeah, that's fair.

[00:37:03] It's it's I would call it catty corner.

[00:37:06] Yeah.

[00:37:07] I mean, it's Clementine.

[00:37:08] Right.

[00:37:09] And then.

[00:37:09] Yeah, it's, it's two blocks, but they're two like Anaheim resort size blocks.

[00:37:15] So, um, so if you want to go to garden walk, you can do it.

[00:37:19] I don't mean the parks.

[00:37:20] I mean like just the, it's they're big blocks, but, uh, you could, if you wanted to, I guess

[00:37:26] you could shuffle on down into the toy story lot, but looking at it now, I think the walk

[00:37:36] to get to the pickup area is almost the same as almost the same as the walk.

[00:37:44] Now it's a little bit shorter than the walk to the park.

[00:37:47] Um, and if you consider that toy story parking, you get your security needs taken care of.

[00:37:55] At that point, I it's a coin toss, honestly, between walking.

[00:38:01] You go through security at the toy story a lot.

[00:38:03] Yeah.

[00:38:04] It's one of the benefits of it.

[00:38:05] Oh, I've never, I've never known that.

[00:38:07] I've never actually done that bus from the toy story lot.

[00:38:11] What?

[00:38:12] I mean, toy story lot.

[00:38:14] You can take a shuttle.

[00:38:15] Yeah.

[00:38:15] Like a tram.

[00:38:17] Yeah. Oh, we haven't gone over this toy story lot.

[00:38:19] It's a, it's, it's an outdoor lot.

[00:38:21] You usually not always, but you know, early in the day when they're expecting a lot of people,

[00:38:27] they do security at, at the, the parking lot itself before you get on the bus, the bus,

[00:38:34] the bus is run by art, but they're very, very large buses that then will take you to the main entrance and you bypass security once you get there.

[00:38:42] So I did,

[00:38:43] where do you get off the bus that you don't go through security?

[00:38:46] Uh, this is very close to California adventure side.

[00:38:50] Okay.

[00:38:52] Huh?

[00:38:52] If you imagine, if you imagine that corridor that you walk in through Harbor and then over on this side is Disneyland.

[00:39:01] Yeah.

[00:39:02] Yeah.

[00:39:02] And then there's the other, that's, that's, those are the mystery buses that you're like, what is that?

[00:39:07] Um, that's what that is.

[00:39:08] I thought it was just a cast member parking.

[00:39:10] No, no, no, no, no.

[00:39:11] Um, but it's, it's not always assured that, that, uh, security will be at toy.

[00:39:18] It will, if you're going like the usual time someone would go security will most likely be there.

[00:39:27] It's just not a guarantee.

[00:39:28] Um, and sometimes it can get, when that, when that security gets congested, it is congested so much more than the main gate.

[00:39:40] So, you know, just kind of be aware that if you do, or if you are counting on the toy story parking being a really quick run around, around security, you got to get there very early in order for that to be true.

[00:39:53] Interesting.

[00:39:54] Um, go ahead, Eric.

[00:39:55] I was, so listener, speaking of, of security, um, the Harbor Boulevard side, uh, I have heard the, uh, security folks are, um, less forgiving than other entrances.

[00:40:14] Yeah.

[00:40:15] And I can say.

[00:40:16] Well, you experienced it yourself.

[00:40:16] Well, yes, exactly.

[00:40:18] And bringing, bringing in audio equipment, you've seen how many videos and, and, and, and such from people who are going to Disneyland to record themselves eating a churro.

[00:40:33] And, uh, apparently there are more people doing that than not at this point.

[00:40:38] Pretty much.

[00:40:38] Yeah.

[00:40:39] But, uh, sometimes the security folks on that side will go, what is this?

[00:40:46] It's a microphone.

[00:40:47] What kind of bond?

[00:40:48] I don't think you should have this.

[00:40:49] Do we allow microphones?

[00:40:51] Hang on.

[00:40:51] Let me get my manager.

[00:40:52] Yeah.

[00:40:55] Yeah.

[00:40:55] That is a good tip.

[00:40:56] Uh, regardless of where you're staying.

[00:40:59] Um, it, it is security is less forgiving, uh, on the Harbor side.

[00:41:05] Yeah.

[00:41:06] We're forgiving.

[00:41:06] They overlook more things when you're coming from the hotel side, presumably because you're coming from the hotel.

[00:41:11] So you're not just possibly.

[00:41:13] Yeah.

[00:41:13] So I think you also have more, they probably deal with more just complete random garbage on the Harbor side.

[00:41:20] Cause they, you don't have to have a ticket to go through security.

[00:41:24] So that probably presents them with a lot of very interesting interactions.

[00:41:29] Uh, I think also, so back to the hotel, the Hampton Inn, um, it's a Hampton Inn.

[00:41:36] Okay.

[00:41:37] It looks and feels the same way.

[00:41:38] The free breakfast, like all Hampton Inns have.

[00:41:40] I think it's interesting on their website.

[00:41:43] It's probably all their websites for all their hotels have the same fields.

[00:41:48] Cause for example, for your stay, check in is at three, check out is 11.

[00:41:52] Parking self parking is $30 a day.

[00:41:54] It's important to note.

[00:41:56] Uh, Valley is not available.

[00:41:57] EV charging on site.

[00:41:59] There's no, there's secured parking available, but not covered.

[00:42:02] In and out privilege is also available.

[00:42:04] And then they have a list of airport shuttles.

[00:42:07] Now the airports listed are John Wayne, Long Beach in Los Angeles.

[00:42:10] Oh, and what's interesting is they've listed these three airport shuttles and none of them are available.

[00:42:17] So it's John Wayne airport, not available.

[00:42:19] So why would you have the airport shuttle listed if you don't have an airport shuttle?

[00:42:25] Um, other amenities around the area wise.

[00:42:28] Of course, there's that delightful 7-Eleven that I've been to so many times.

[00:42:34] Always a joy.

[00:42:35] Um, Oh, that the one on Haster.

[00:42:37] Yeah.

[00:42:38] Haster and Catella.

[00:42:38] Yeah.

[00:42:39] Yeah.

[00:42:40] Um, I, they love answering questions anyway.

[00:42:46] Um, what questions are you asking them?

[00:42:48] Oh, you know, like, is there a packet of mayonnaise available for the sandwich that you are selling?

[00:42:56] And they pointed me to the jar of mayonnaise.

[00:43:00] So that kind of stuff.

[00:43:02] 7-Eleven mayonnaise doesn't sound like a good life choice.

[00:43:05] All mayonnaise is a good life choice.

[00:43:07] That's fair, but not barbecue sauce.

[00:43:11] Um, so in terms of like what, what the hotel is, so, you know, Hyatt house, it's kind of

[00:43:19] like they took Hyatt house and said, let's make one of these, but make it vaguely more

[00:43:24] like a Howard Johnson.

[00:43:25] And Oh, that's called Hampton Inn.

[00:43:27] Um, I don't mean that in a bad sense.

[00:43:29] That's just kind of what Hampton it is.

[00:43:31] I think it's, uh, you're close to the 7-Eleven, uh, catty corner.

[00:43:35] You have actual catty corner.

[00:43:37] You have the habit burger, which I've never understood what people like about it, but I

[00:43:41] get people that people do Jersey Mike's, um, fish grill.

[00:43:45] Uh, yes.

[00:43:47] California fish grill underrated place.

[00:43:49] Luna grill, uh, Oh, no Hawaiian.

[00:43:53] And is there a Starbucks?

[00:43:55] Yes, there is.

[00:43:56] There's also a taco place across the streets to the east.

[00:44:02] It's got 4.1 stars.

[00:44:03] You mean tacos E poopoo sus.

[00:44:06] Yes.

[00:44:07] I've never been to tacos E poopoo sus, but I get a good feeling that it might be delicious

[00:44:13] because it's also next to a laundromat and a Bitcoin, uh, ATM.

[00:44:20] There you go.

[00:44:20] Usually that means good food will be in that shopping center.

[00:44:24] That's, that's a good tip.

[00:44:26] Um, can, can I address something here?

[00:44:29] Here.

[00:44:30] So you both say catty corner, huh?

[00:44:32] Mm-hmm.

[00:44:33] As opposed to kitty corner as opposed to kitty corner.

[00:44:36] Yes.

[00:44:37] I don't know what it means.

[00:44:39] I don't know what the difference is.

[00:44:40] Uh, presumably where you're from corner is shorter distance than cat.

[00:44:46] True.

[00:44:46] Cause it's younger.

[00:44:47] It's a kitty.

[00:44:48] It's younger and smaller.

[00:44:49] Yep.

[00:44:51] Uh, there's one meeting room with 612 square feet of event space and 178 guest rooms.

[00:44:58] Perfect for your next live podcast.

[00:45:00] That's right.

[00:45:01] Yes.

[00:45:02] Um, yeah, it's kind of unremarkable, but not necessarily in a bad way.

[00:45:07] Uh, so far, if we're looking at what I, so tier list wise of the three, we've talked about, I say Hampton in for me because there's more stuff around it.

[00:45:21] Okay.

[00:45:21] And it is the third most expensive or third.

[00:45:25] It's also that expensive third, least expensive of the moderate hotels.

[00:45:29] Uh, speaking of uneventful holiday in and sweets, Anaheim, the holiday in and sweets, Anaheim.

[00:45:38] That is such an accurate segue.

[00:45:42] Uh, yeah.

[00:45:44] So, okay.

[00:45:45] Holiday in and sweets, Anaheim is where it is behind Mickey and.

[00:45:52] Oh, that's right.

[00:45:53] Oh, gosh.

[00:45:54] Oh, it's that one.

[00:45:55] Okay.

[00:45:55] Yes.

[00:45:56] It's another way to put it.

[00:45:58] It is that one.

[00:45:59] Yes.

[00:45:59] Um, amenities around there.

[00:46:02] There's a food Mart connected to the gas station way around the corner.

[00:46:07] Look, okay.

[00:46:08] I'm going to try to put, I'm going to try to polish this turd a little bit.

[00:46:11] Um, if you want a quiet area, this would be it.

[00:46:15] There you go.

[00:46:15] Um, I'm just looking around the neighborhood in terms of taking the art.

[00:46:21] It is again, part of that ball road line that has you going.

[00:46:26] I mean, you're halfway around the property, but you're going to go all the way.

[00:46:30] Um, yeah, no, it's bad.

[00:46:32] Um, cause you still have to like, so listener, just so you have an understanding, if you're

[00:46:37] familiar with the area, you know how like ball road is like an actual road in an actual

[00:46:43] city and then you go and you drive on it.

[00:46:46] And then usually there's no, no balls, unless you have truck nuts, which are whimsically

[00:46:50] delightful.

[00:46:52] You turn left.

[00:46:53] You're out of character.

[00:46:55] Sorry.

[00:46:56] I love real Dan.

[00:46:59] And then you turn left on Disneyland drive and you go down into a Mickey and friend structure,

[00:47:04] right?

[00:47:04] That's, that's kind of like what you're used to.

[00:47:06] Imagine going further on ball past Mickey and friend structure, turn left.

[00:47:12] And then you say, I'm going to go behind Mickey and friend structure.

[00:47:16] Now, one of the nice things about this, you would think is, oh, I could just walk over

[00:47:20] to Mickey and friend structure because it's not going to be a problem.

[00:47:24] I'm sure there's like a gate that Disney was like, okay, sure.

[00:47:27] Holiday Inn and Suites.

[00:47:28] We're happy to help you out.

[00:47:30] Nope.

[00:47:30] You have to go all the way down Walnut street and then you turn on magic way.

[00:47:35] And then it's like, oh, well, I guess I can get on a shuttle to go from Mickey and

[00:47:40] Fred.

[00:47:40] Nope.

[00:47:41] You can't.

[00:47:41] You have to go all the way down to the downtown Disney.

[00:47:45] And it's, I'm not saying it's, it's a pleasant walk.

[00:47:50] There's lots of trees.

[00:47:51] It's shaded.

[00:47:52] Okay.

[00:47:52] It's like a suburban area.

[00:47:54] Um, like if you're into that, like path, less traveled kind of thing.

[00:48:02] And you don't mind the 15 or so minute walk.

[00:48:06] It's probably a great place to stay.

[00:48:08] It looks reasonably priced holiday in, you kind of know what you're getting.

[00:48:12] It's very much like best Western in that way that it's just like the holiday.

[00:48:17] And I know exactly what I'm going to expect.

[00:48:19] Um, color TVs.

[00:48:21] Not sure.

[00:48:22] Probably not.

[00:48:22] Um, they say that the rooms are spacious.

[00:48:27] They have, uh, let's see, you got to pay for parking.

[00:48:31] Wi-Fi is complimentary though.

[00:48:34] It opened in the late nineties and it kind of has that feel based on the videos I've

[00:48:39] seen.

[00:48:40] Again, not in a bad way.

[00:48:41] None of these are bad places to stay.

[00:48:43] There's a nice little splash pad.

[00:48:45] Hmm.

[00:48:46] There's a splash pad for kids.

[00:48:48] There's a pool fitness center.

[00:48:50] Oh, I'm okay.

[00:48:50] I'm seeing it.

[00:48:51] Yeah.

[00:48:51] Um, and then, uh, some interesting contradiction.

[00:48:55] According to the Disney travel agent website, it is more than a mile away from Disneyland.

[00:49:00] According to the holiday inn and suites website, it is one block.

[00:49:05] Right?

[00:49:06] Well, Disneyland doesn't want you to stay at holiday inn.

[00:49:10] Um, yeah, I think to Dan's point, these blocks are very large.

[00:49:14] There are very large, uh, taking the art.

[00:49:17] I'm going to look at the ball road line.

[00:49:19] And while you guys talk about other things just to see.

[00:49:21] Okay.

[00:49:21] Other amenities.

[00:49:22] The way you would be.

[00:49:24] Other amenities are, um, sorry, we talked about, they have housekeeping, which is good.

[00:49:30] Kids.

[00:49:30] That's a plus.

[00:49:31] Yeah.

[00:49:32] There is an onsite restaurant.

[00:49:36] Uh, let's see.

[00:49:37] It's an, it's a part of the IHG family of brands.

[00:49:42] Uh, I'm trying to figure out about the restaurant.

[00:49:44] It does.

[00:49:45] Is it a free breakfast?

[00:49:47] Kids eat free, but it says kids eat free.

[00:49:50] So probably people.

[00:49:51] Yeah.

[00:49:51] Probably not then.

[00:49:52] Uh, dining.

[00:49:53] Here we go.

[00:49:53] The holiday inn and suites Anaheim one block from Disneyland website.

[00:49:58] When it's time to take a break and refuel for more adventures on site eatery, onyx restaurant

[00:50:03] and lounge always has something delicious cooking.

[00:50:06] So you'll have plenty of great breakfast and dinner plus dessert.

[00:50:10] Onyx is a cool name.

[00:50:11] Yeah.

[00:50:13] It's in the front entry lobby.

[00:50:14] It's open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

[00:50:19] Don't know why they didn't put seven days from six 30 to 10.

[00:50:22] Well, they wanted to be clear about five to nine.

[00:50:26] Um, okay.

[00:50:29] I can kind of saying that as far as the art goes, I kind of misspoke because it's actually,

[00:50:37] so that line is a long line, but I think the holiday inn and suites is right in the middle

[00:50:45] of it.

[00:50:47] So it's, it really is just, do you want to walk or do you not in terms of art or not?

[00:50:53] I would think it's another situation where you possibly walk there and art back.

[00:50:58] Okay.

[00:50:59] Yeah.

[00:50:59] Yeah.

[00:51:00] Possibly walk.

[00:51:01] All right.

[00:51:01] Fun new game.

[00:51:03] Ooh, the onyx restaurant in the holiday.

[00:51:08] Okay.

[00:51:09] I want each of you to name.

[00:51:11] I just want you to have some context here.

[00:51:14] Jimmy is the one with the hard out.

[00:51:17] Don't let that stop.

[00:51:18] We still have 40.

[00:51:19] No, I know.

[00:51:20] I know.

[00:51:20] I just, I, I know this will lead to something fun.

[00:51:23] That's why I'm here.

[00:51:24] So I want each of you, this is, this is the onyx in the holiday inn.

[00:51:29] Each of you need to name one menu item that is for sure on the list.

[00:51:36] Chicken tenders.

[00:51:37] Chicken strips, Dan, served with house-made pub chips.

[00:51:41] That must mean french fries because they're fancy.

[00:51:44] Your choice of honey mustard or barbecue.

[00:51:46] Eric, what is one thing that is guaranteed to be on this menu?

[00:51:51] Cheeseburger.

[00:51:54] Classic burger, eight ounce charbroiled Angus beef burger.

[00:51:58] Seasoned and topped with your choice of cheese.

[00:52:00] Good job.

[00:52:01] Okay, Dan, name one thing.

[00:52:03] Chicken sandwich.

[00:52:04] Wait.

[00:52:05] Well, first of all, no.

[00:52:08] Damn it.

[00:52:09] But that wasn't my question.

[00:52:11] Name one thing that is on this menu that maybe shouldn't be on this menu.

[00:52:17] That shouldn't be?

[00:52:18] Sam.

[00:52:18] I'm surprised this is on the menu.

[00:52:21] Prime rib.

[00:52:23] Close.

[00:52:24] A premium steak sandwich.

[00:52:26] Shaved tenderloin, grilled with pepper, onions, mushrooms, and melted cheese.

[00:52:30] Eric, this is your last chance.

[00:52:33] One item on this menu that probably shouldn't be on this menu.

[00:52:36] I already said salmon, so I'm going to stick with that.

[00:52:38] Grilled salmon.

[00:52:40] Grilled salmon, Eric.

[00:52:41] You nailed it.

[00:52:42] A fillet of salmon finished with a citrus white wine butter sauce.

[00:52:48] Anyway, I wouldn't eat there.

[00:52:52] That's a fun game.

[00:52:53] We need to do that from now on.

[00:52:55] We forgot our theme song.

[00:52:56] You guys nailed it.

[00:52:56] For the hotels.

[00:52:58] Yeah, I have to put it in post, right?

[00:53:00] Yeah, but yeah.

[00:53:00] That's fine.

[00:53:01] All right.

[00:53:02] So that is the Holiday Inn and Suites Anaheim.

[00:53:07] If you've stayed at a Holiday Inn, that's what it's like.

[00:53:10] Yep.

[00:53:10] Next on our list in order of price is the Hilton Garden Inn, Anaheim Garden Grove, which is more than one mile away from Disneyland.

[00:53:24] Now, this hotel is located just south of the Hampton Inn Garden Grove.

[00:53:34] Hold on.

[00:53:34] Sorry, guys.

[00:53:35] I apologize.

[00:53:36] Chapman Avenue.

[00:53:37] That is far.

[00:53:40] Wait, not?

[00:53:40] That's the Anaheim Marriott Suites, Dan.

[00:53:42] It's just north of that.

[00:53:45] Chapman.

[00:53:45] Oh, I see what you're saying.

[00:53:47] Oh, yeah.

[00:53:47] That's by the hotel that we swore off forever.

[00:53:50] Yes.

[00:53:50] The Anaheim Marriott Suites, which is dead to me.

[00:53:53] We will talk about it in the Suites episode, but.

[00:53:57] I'm really looking forward to that.

[00:53:58] I forgot that that was part of it.

[00:54:01] That's right.

[00:54:01] You're next to Pucca de Peppo.

[00:54:03] We might need a whole song for that place.

[00:54:06] I think you're right.

[00:54:08] Okay.

[00:54:09] So, we have.

[00:54:10] Yes, we have a Pucca de Peppo.

[00:54:12] So, you can have the Pope stare at you while you eat.

[00:54:15] Is it Ding Tea across the street?

[00:54:18] Ding Tea is across the street, but.

[00:54:21] Bank of America.

[00:54:23] When we say across the street, we're talking like.

[00:54:26] It's again, it's Anaheim streets.

[00:54:28] There's also a big five, so you can get.

[00:54:30] That's right.

[00:54:31] A gun if you want.

[00:54:33] Oh, and of course the Grand Theater, Dan.

[00:54:35] What's that?

[00:54:36] The Grand Theater.

[00:54:37] The Grand Theater.

[00:54:38] It's also close to California Dental Group of South Anaheim.

[00:54:41] So, you can get some work done on your grill.

[00:54:45] There's the employee advisory council of Orange County.

[00:54:49] That was tense.

[00:54:51] I don't know what to tell you about this place.

[00:54:53] I've stayed here.

[00:54:54] Okay.

[00:54:55] I did not like it.

[00:54:57] Oh.

[00:54:58] But they were also undergoing renovation and it was depressing.

[00:55:05] And I don't know how much that is because.

[00:55:08] Please explain.

[00:55:09] I don't know how much of that is because it was under renovation, but like.

[00:55:14] I mean, we've all been in an elevator that you check the permit to make sure that it is from this decade.

[00:55:23] Hmm.

[00:55:24] You know where it's like it's shaky and it's like I'm.

[00:55:28] Makes noises.

[00:55:29] I'm not worried.

[00:55:30] This is fun, but.

[00:55:32] Is everything okay here?

[00:55:34] It's kind of that place.

[00:55:35] It has that sort of like.

[00:55:38] It felt sort of like a circus circus like but not the fun parts to me.

[00:55:47] I don't know.

[00:55:48] But having said that it was undergoing renovation, so it could be fine now.

[00:55:52] It was not then.

[00:55:55] Let's see.

[00:55:55] It opened in early 2000s.

[00:55:58] It's undergone.

[00:56:00] It's undergoned.

[00:56:00] It seems to maintain its modern appeal.

[00:56:02] They got free Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, not sure if they're color, microwave, mini fridges.

[00:56:09] You could have meals at the on-site restaurant, the Garden Grill and bar, which according to the video.

[00:56:16] Okay.

[00:56:17] Watch this really fun video where they said that the cafe was closed and they didn't know what to do because they were really tired and they needed coffee.

[00:56:25] And then the next thing they showed us was that the room had a coffee maker.

[00:56:30] I don't think most Americans understand what coffee really is.

[00:56:34] They think it's just.

[00:56:35] And the restaurant does not, on their website, does not list a menu.

[00:56:39] Right.

[00:56:39] So it's probably just there.

[00:56:42] Um, it's, I didn't, I had a, it was, look, it was fine.

[00:56:49] The bed was comfortable.

[00:56:51] It was a room, nothing, no crime happened that I'm aware of.

[00:56:56] Um, it's not in the best.

[00:56:59] Aesthetically not in the best part of town.

[00:57:01] It's kind of ugly.

[00:57:02] Like the part of town it's in is.

[00:57:05] It's not like ugly in that like dingy crime ridden nightmare kind of way.

[00:57:10] It's just like.

[00:57:12] It's yours.

[00:57:13] You're very much in the corporate hellscape part of.

[00:57:18] Orange County.

[00:57:19] Um, there's not a lot of character there.

[00:57:22] Yeah.

[00:57:22] It has the word garden in the title and that's delightful.

[00:57:26] There are trees, you know, giving it points for having a word in the name of it.

[00:57:31] Yeah.

[00:57:32] You're at it.

[00:57:33] You'd be taking the Harbor line if you take the art, which I definitely recommend you take the art.

[00:57:38] Um, instead of walking, I think it's the turnaround point for that line.

[00:57:42] Let me see.

[00:57:44] Which means it's also kind of halfway on that route.

[00:57:47] So you're not like waiting a long time.

[00:57:51] Um, and while, while you're verifying, you can bring your pet.

[00:57:55] There's a non-refundable fee of $75.

[00:57:57] If your pet is under 20 pounds.

[00:58:01] Mm.

[00:58:02] If your pet is over 25 pounds.

[00:58:04] So it's $125 a night.

[00:58:06] Oh, okay.

[00:58:07] It's a big cat.

[00:58:08] Um, but only up to 40 pounds.

[00:58:11] So yeah, it's on the Harbor line or the three, four combo, depending on what time of day you take it.

[00:58:15] Uh, I might need to do a whole episode on the art.

[00:58:19] Um, yeah, I think you're right.

[00:58:23] So yeah, it's too far.

[00:58:25] I would say it's too far to walk to the park possibly.

[00:58:30] I mean, it's going to be a walk, but it's not an unreasonable walk to do to walk to the toy store parking lot.

[00:58:37] I think you're probably looking at drive or art or Uber.

[00:58:43] Um, yeah, it's, it's like, it's not the best.

[00:58:46] It's it's.

[00:58:48] Now there is a, uh, a pizza hut.

[00:58:52] Yeah.

[00:58:53] Make it a great.

[00:58:54] Um, a solid craft.

[00:58:55] But the other thing is it's, it's less than a block away from the Anaheim, um, the Anaheim area at sweets, which I like because of the, uh, Outback Steakhouse, the Red Robin, the Joe's Crab Shack and the Ogie's pizza.

[00:59:11] And that's not very far.

[00:59:13] No, it's not.

[00:59:14] I mean, it's, I would say if you're, if you're, if your water pump company is paying for it, it's fine.

[00:59:28] Theoretically.

[00:59:29] If you in theory work for a water pump company.

[00:59:33] I don't have it in years.

[00:59:37] I know.

[00:59:39] So yes, but you're right.

[00:59:42] I mean, it's, it's my experience with it was not great, but it wasn't, it wasn't depressing a little bit like the color scheme and the darkness of it.

[00:59:52] Yes.

[00:59:53] Do I like that in a hotel?

[00:59:54] Yes.

[00:59:54] Do I like the shaky elevator?

[00:59:55] Yes.

[00:59:56] But it like registered to me that it would, this was not a nice place.

[01:00:03] You know what I mean?

[01:00:05] Like it's, I, it, I wouldn't, I wouldn't in good faith recommend that people stay here, but I wouldn't in good faith recommend that people stay away.

[01:00:12] It, I would just, if someone said, Oh, I stayed at the Hilton garden and an Anaheim garden grove.

[01:00:18] I would be like, how was it?

[01:00:21] Yeah.

[01:00:24] You're all right.

[01:00:25] Yeah.

[01:00:25] You okay.

[01:00:26] Okay.

[01:00:27] Can you please confirm that my experience was a one-off because that was weird.

[01:00:33] Yeah.

[01:00:34] For just, we haven't talked about pricing, but the Hilton garden in standard package price based on the two nights, two adults, two day park upper is $1,250 for the package.

[01:00:49] That's the other thing.

[01:00:50] I think looking at price wise, the, so we've done five so far, I think of these five, I'm curious about the holiday end.

[01:01:02] I wouldn't recommend that someone, it wouldn't be like, Oh, you got to stay there.

[01:01:06] I'm just curious off of ball road.

[01:01:09] The one.

[01:01:09] Yeah.

[01:01:10] The one that's like in the butt crack of making it's quiet.

[01:01:13] Like you said.

[01:01:14] Yeah.

[01:01:14] And I'm sure that that's a nice aspect of it.

[01:01:17] Uh, and I would imagine that as long as it's not too hot, the walk to the park could be extremely pleasant.

[01:01:24] Um, just seems like a lot of money to be that far away.

[01:01:30] The, the, the holiday end.

[01:01:34] Any of these.

[01:01:35] Yeah, no, I agree.

[01:01:36] Which is why I think holiday in holiday.

[01:01:40] And I could see someone, if someone were to tell me that like, Oh yeah, my family has always stayed there and we just, it's so quaint.

[01:01:46] And we really like it.

[01:01:47] Be like, I totally get that.

[01:01:49] I, that, that is a thing.

[01:01:51] Totally.

[01:01:52] That makes sense to me.

[01:01:53] But as of right now, I think, uh, Hampton is.

[01:01:59] No, no, no.

[01:02:01] The first Hampton we talked about.

[01:02:02] As of right now, the first Hampton is the front runner for me.

[01:02:06] All right.

[01:02:07] So now back to the Hilton family of brands.

[01:02:11] We go from the, uh, one we just talked about the Hilton garden in to just a little further north to the Hampton Inn and Suites Anaheim garden.

[01:02:25] The second Hampton on our, on our list.

[01:02:28] It is more expensive than the first Hampton and we talked about, which is at the convention center.

[01:02:35] So for some reason, this one that's in Garden Grove, not in Anaheim, very close to the Hilton Garden Inn we were just speaking to, just a little further north, is more expensive.

[01:02:49] It looks exactly the same.

[01:02:51] It's at Hampton Inn.

[01:02:52] It does.

[01:02:53] There's no restaurant.

[01:02:53] There's a free hot breakfast, but there's no dining to speak of other than that.

[01:02:59] So as far as your art pickup there, it's going to be the same one as the Hilton Garden Inn.

[01:03:08] In terms of walking to Toy Story, I wouldn't, but one could, I guess.

[01:03:15] Definitely not within walking to the park unless you were trying to prove something, which I get that.

[01:03:21] That's a thing.

[01:03:23] I watched a couple videos about this place, and it's got an interesting pool situation.

[01:03:30] You have a regular pool, a kiddie pool that goes from one foot to two feet deep, which is where you put your kitty cats in.

[01:03:40] And we got a spa.

[01:03:43] It looks like a nice little garden area, like a shaded little garden hangout area.

[01:03:50] First choice in general, no, I don't think.

[01:03:54] But it looks fine.

[01:03:56] Stuff that it's around that might be interesting.

[01:03:59] You're within walking distance of Joe's Italian Ice.

[01:04:05] Now, I've never been there, but.

[01:04:07] Yeah, we walked by that.

[01:04:08] There was a line around the building.

[01:04:09] Yeah.

[01:04:09] And from what I understand, it's totally a thing.

[01:04:13] Like any time an out of town, anybody comes to Anaheim, they have to go to Joe's Italian Ice.

[01:04:20] Like if it's a team thing or whatever.

[01:04:22] Apparently, it's a really, really big deal and it's awesome.

[01:04:25] So one nice thing about it is you could just look out the window, check out the line, be like, hey, let's go get Italian Ice now.

[01:04:33] It's also really close to a pho place.

[01:04:37] Mr. Pho.

[01:04:38] I've eaten there once.

[01:04:39] It was very good.

[01:04:42] I mean, is this a reason to stay there?

[01:04:45] No, but I mean, these are things to think about.

[01:04:48] It's in the, it shares us parking lot with that very same Bucca de Beppo.

[01:04:53] Um, I think in terms of this area at this price point, this is where I would probably land mainly because it's just a good balance.

[01:05:05] I mean, it's, it's far, but yeah.

[01:05:09] Um, and I don't know why it's so expensive being this far away, but it looks like a good balance of all the stuff.

[01:05:16] I would still probably go with the closer Hampton over the two because it's closer and it's also if it just, there's tenant.

[01:05:28] It, it, it's secluded in a way that isn't depressing.

[01:05:32] Like it's kind of pulled off from the street.

[01:05:35] There's, there's enough trees around it.

[01:05:37] I could see someone in the parking lot.

[01:05:39] Bucca de Beppo is in the parking lot.

[01:05:42] Um, I could see someone enjoying this place if they understood the distance and new ways around it.

[01:05:50] I would totally not think that they were crazy if they were like, yeah, I always stay there.

[01:05:54] And it's a pretty good place to stay.

[01:05:57] Yeah.

[01:05:58] Uh, Joe's has two locations, one in Anaheim and one in Tempe, Arizona.

[01:06:04] Huh?

[01:06:05] It's got 4.8.

[01:06:06] Let's look, let's look at, let's look at.

[01:06:08] Um, the, the Days Inn is across the street and that is not a good neighbor hotel.

[01:06:14] Why not?

[01:06:16] Oh, let's see.

[01:06:17] Joe's, Joe's ice.com.

[01:06:20] It's part of Wyndham.

[01:06:22] Is that right?

[01:06:22] Days Inn is a Wyndham resort.

[01:06:24] Oh yeah, it is.

[01:06:25] No.

[01:06:27] Wyndham has a lot of sketchy.

[01:06:28] Wyndham rewards.

[01:06:29] Huh?

[01:06:29] Yep.

[01:06:31] Yeah.

[01:06:31] Days Inn.

[01:06:32] Travelodge is part of Wyndham.

[01:06:34] But it's not a good neighbor hotel.

[01:06:36] Okay.

[01:06:36] Let's see.

[01:06:37] Menu.

[01:06:38] I wonder why.

[01:06:39] Anyway, they're not paying that, uh, Disney cash.

[01:06:43] We could taste our Italian ice cream and Italian treats through the internet.

[01:06:46] According to them.

[01:06:48] Uh, they got a Bada Bing cherry, blue Hawaii, blue raspberry, cactus cooler, fuzzy wuzzy,

[01:06:54] a dream sickle, cotton candy, caramel apple, green apple, Java Joe, lemon, mango tango,

[01:07:00] peanut butter cup, peachy kiwi, peach monster mash, poison apple, raspberry tart, razzmatazz,

[01:07:05] red raspberry, poison apple.

[01:07:06] Yep.

[01:07:07] Poison apple.

[01:07:08] You could die.

[01:07:09] They, you could actually like say, I, I, wicked queen is so close from, you have to

[01:07:14] present them with proof that you have a, a terminal disease that will cause you pain

[01:07:18] and then they'll give it to you.

[01:07:23] It's like a Kevorkian flavor.

[01:07:25] Yeah.

[01:07:26] Well, it's Joe Kevorkian.

[01:07:28] It's his brother.

[01:07:30] Jack brother.

[01:07:31] Yeah.

[01:07:32] It is called poison apple.

[01:07:33] Look at that.

[01:07:34] Yeah.

[01:07:34] Um, yeah.

[01:07:36] So if you've ever had, uh, have you had Italian ice, Dan?

[01:07:41] Um, I have not.

[01:07:44] Now, Italian ice is a very popular thing in my neck of the woods.

[01:07:47] There are multiple, multiple, multiple Italian ice places around here.

[01:07:52] Uh, two most famous ones are Rita's and Jeremiah's.

[01:07:55] Mm-hmm.

[01:07:56] Very similar thing.

[01:07:57] If you ever go to Joe's, try a Joe Lottie.

[01:08:02] Hmm.

[01:08:03] And what it is, is Italian custard layered with Italian ice layered with more custard.

[01:08:11] Hmm.

[01:08:12] It's, it's a very delightful layered treat.

[01:08:14] And I would recommend that you try that.

[01:08:16] I think I might've figured it out.

[01:08:18] Apparently they have authentic soft serve ice cream shipped from Pennsylvania.

[01:08:23] I think it's probably not the liquid sludge that a lot of soft serve is.

[01:08:31] Like a soft serve.

[01:08:32] No, it's probably like actual ice cream.

[01:08:34] That's right.

[01:08:35] Or like a custard, like you said.

[01:08:37] And I'm seeing also, and I'm not a sweet, I'm not, I'm not into sweets.

[01:08:41] Um, I'm seeing one of the pictures is what looks like a, one of the many varieties of red

[01:08:49] Italian ice with a big old dollop of vanilla soft serve ice cream on it.

[01:08:56] That's the Lottie thing.

[01:08:57] Yeah.

[01:08:57] Okay.

[01:08:58] And I was, it immediately occurred to me that like, if an abundance of sugar didn't make my

[01:09:05] brain stop working, I would absolutely want that.

[01:09:09] According to Google right now is less busy than usual.

[01:09:13] Oh, good.

[01:09:14] So listener, go right now.

[01:09:16] Head on over.

[01:09:18] Head over.

[01:09:20] Uh, pause, pause the episode.

[01:09:22] Um, think about when we recorded this.

[01:09:28] The most popular time at Joe's on a Sunday is 7 PM.

[01:09:33] Yeah.

[01:09:33] Oh, I have to release this tomorrow.

[01:09:35] You don't have to.

[01:09:38] Anyway.

[01:09:38] I got a lot of editing to do, but at least I have my new dial.

[01:09:44] Today is the 25th.

[01:09:45] Of destiny.

[01:09:47] Um, all right.

[01:09:48] Well, so there you go.

[01:09:48] So that's the, uh, Hilton or Hampton Inn and Suites.

[01:09:52] We've gone through six properties in order of price, starting with the lowest.

[01:09:58] Uh, now we've gone to the highest.

[01:09:59] Now, Dan, at this point, you said the Hampton Inn and Suites, the one that is at the convention

[01:10:04] center would be your number one choice here.

[01:10:06] Um, let me think about it.

[01:10:09] Um, I think the one on Haster and it's a toss up.

[01:10:16] Okay.

[01:10:16] So here, just here's how I'm thinking about it.

[01:10:19] Hampton Inn on Han Haster and Catella.

[01:10:24] It's walking distance ish.

[01:10:27] So there is that option and it would be not a far taking the art back or to the park.

[01:10:36] Wouldn't be that long.

[01:10:37] Um, but it's like, it's one of those places where it's like, you might as well be on the

[01:10:45] freeway in terms of like ambience.

[01:10:48] Um, which it's not necessarily a bad thing.

[01:10:52] One of my favorite places to stay at Suncoast that we're going to get into kind of has that

[01:10:57] same thing, but at least it has like a character to it where Hampton Inn and Suites on that corner

[01:11:03] is just sort of like, it's just a random, fairly good hotel.

[01:11:10] Um, yeah, it's fairly new.

[01:11:12] Like you said, there's a little shopping center, kitty or catty corner with some restaurants.

[01:11:16] Then you've got the garden walk, which isn't really that far away.

[01:11:20] Yeah.

[01:11:20] I mean, it's, it's, it's sort of, I think it's just what kind of vibe do you want?

[01:11:24] If I'm looking at a, whatever, I just want to go to the parks and, and this is just a

[01:11:30] bed kind of situation.

[01:11:31] I would probably go with Hampton Inn and Suites Anaheim Resort Convention Center.

[01:11:36] Uh, and I definitely go to Jersey Mike's cause hell yeah, I love that place.

[01:11:41] Even though I'm sure Jersey Mike's a monster just like Papa John.

[01:11:44] By the way, they were just bought by Blackstone Dan.

[01:11:47] Ooh, that sounds scary.

[01:11:49] Yeah.

[01:11:50] Um, but I think I kind of like the idea of the other Hampton Inn, the, the, the further

[01:11:59] one, it just looks like a place that would be more pleasant to stay at.

[01:12:04] So despite it being a mile and a half away, you'd rather.

[01:12:07] Well, I mean, taking out that part of it, but also understanding that, you know, I will

[01:12:12] need to take the art and it will be kind of a whole thing because in during the middle

[01:12:17] of the day, the art becomes a mess and it, but if you, if you know how to navigate it,

[01:12:21] it's fine.

[01:12:22] Um, I think of these, okay.

[01:12:27] Today, today, Dan would stay at the further one, but maybe last month, Dan, and maybe next

[01:12:34] month, Dan would stay at the other one.

[01:12:35] Um, just, that's just sort of, it's, but definitely of, of this list, I think the Hamptons are the

[01:12:42] strongest or are they consistent?

[01:12:46] Yeah.

[01:12:46] Yeah.

[01:12:47] I think the Hamptons are the, the, the strongest runners on these.

[01:12:52] Uh, Blackstone said it reached an agreement with the majority ownership position in Jersey

[01:12:57] Mike's.

[01:12:57] Now, Blackstone is a private equity firm.

[01:13:01] Um, those are good as my new character.

[01:13:04] I mean, as myself, um, yeah, let's look at Blackstone.

[01:13:09] Let's see what I'm just going to say.

[01:13:11] Don't do it, Dan.

[01:13:12] No, let's see.

[01:13:15] Uh, consulting, right.

[01:13:18] Is that what it was?

[01:13:19] It's a private equity firm.

[01:13:23] Private Blackstone equity.

[01:13:26] I mean, as long as they are contributing to our economy and making sure that we are, you

[01:13:32] know, obviously that's what we need.

[01:13:35] Yeah.

[01:13:37] Um, I think it's the Blackstone group.

[01:13:41] Peter Peterson was the former chairman of Lehman and CEO of Lehman brothers.

[01:13:45] So they're connected with Lehman brothers.

[01:13:47] All these people look entirely on the up and up.

[01:13:50] I think this is great.

[01:13:53] And I think I just talked myself and I'm not lying.

[01:13:55] I think I just talked myself into ordering, uh, um, the pizza guy, the Papa John's.

[01:14:02] I think I talked myself into ordering a Papa John's pizza.

[01:14:04] Oh my God.

[01:14:05] Private equity, real estate, credit.

[01:14:07] Is he a monster?

[01:14:08] Yes, he is.

[01:14:09] Does he make good pizza?

[01:14:10] Yes.

[01:14:10] Is it mainly because of the dipping sauce that comes with pizza?

[01:14:13] Yes.

[01:14:14] Can I make my own dipping sauce with margarine and garlic butter or salt or powder?

[01:14:20] Or to dip into a more ethically reasonable pizza?

[01:14:24] Yes, I can.

[01:14:25] But you know what?

[01:14:26] I'm free of the old version of me.

[01:14:29] I am now a fan of Papa John.

[01:14:33] I want him to build five more driveways in one of his many luxurious homes.

[01:14:38] And I, I hope that in his next big game hunting session, he takes down the last of an endangered species because that means that he's a strong, virile man.

[01:14:53] And that's America.

[01:14:58] I love you.

[01:14:59] I love real Dan.

[01:15:01] Thank you.

[01:15:02] What a great guy.

[01:15:04] It's so good to be free.

[01:15:05] So this is the company that bought Jersey Mike's.

[01:15:08] Their businesses are private equity, real estate, credited insurance, Blackstone multi-asset investing, strategic partners, tactical opportunities, infrastructure, life sciences.

[01:15:19] I think this show is, I think I'm just speculating.

[01:15:23] I think this show is going to get better.

[01:15:25] I think so.

[01:15:27] So many more listeners.

[01:15:28] Now the real Dan is here.

[01:15:31] Family offices in Dallas.

[01:15:33] I don't, I don't know.

[01:15:34] Blackstone bought Jersey Mike's anyway.

[01:15:36] Okay.

[01:15:37] So that's the top six price wise on the bottom end.

[01:15:43] We have, let's see.

[01:15:44] If I hadn't used all my tokens already for the month, I would be right now having a song about Blackstone buying Jersey Mike's.

[01:15:56] Well, to be continued because that's all the time we have for today.

[01:16:00] We have seven more moderate resorts at Disneyland Resort.

[01:16:05] We get closer and closer to the property as we get more expensive.

[01:16:09] And then, but the next episode, we're going to cover the moderate resorts at the Disney World Resort.

[01:16:16] They are, of course, the Coronado Springs, the Port Orleans Riverside, sorry, French Quarter, the Caribbean Beach Resort, and the Port Orleans Riverside.

[01:16:25] Those four moderate resorts.

[01:16:26] The most famously to Riverside, California.

[01:16:28] That's right.

[01:16:30] We're going to talk about the history of those properties.

[01:16:32] We're going to talk about the history of Dixie Landing.

[01:16:35] Oh, good.

[01:16:36] Which is what the Port Orleans Riverside used to be called.

[01:16:41] You're going to, you're in for a real treat, listener.

[01:16:43] I'm glad I'm out of the, shouldn't it be?

[01:16:46] I'm free of my chains now.

[01:16:48] What?

[01:16:48] Old Key West is a suite, man.

[01:16:50] It's a vacation club.

[01:16:51] Oh, okay, okay.

[01:16:53] Yeah.

[01:16:54] Only four moderate resorts at Disney World now.

[01:16:56] Sorry.

[01:16:56] I'm just imagining it actually themed to Riverside, California.

[01:17:02] It's really delightful.

[01:17:03] Well, Dixie Landing is close enough.

[01:17:07] I was in New Orleans last week, Dan, and I bought beignets thinking of you.

[01:17:10] Oh.

[01:17:11] Did you go to Café du Monde?

[01:17:13] I didn't this time, but I did buy Café du Monde beignets.

[01:17:16] I almost bought you some chicory coffee, Dan.

[01:17:18] I do love chicory coffee.

[01:17:18] And then I'm like, he can just buy that online.

[01:17:20] I can.

[01:17:20] And I, even though I love coffee, I only drink it like once every six months or so.

[01:17:25] Yeah.

[01:17:26] Anyway, just know that I thought of you.

[01:17:27] Thank you.

[01:17:29] He thought about buying you something.

[01:17:31] I didn't.

[01:17:32] But then I was like, everything I can buy in New Orleans, you can buy yourself on the internet.

[01:17:35] It's true.

[01:17:37] Well, I mean, not everything.

[01:17:41] Speaking of which, I went to Amsterdam also.

[01:17:44] I didn't go to the red light district, nor did I smoke weed.

[01:17:48] Oh.

[01:17:49] Could have.

[01:17:49] We'll cut that part out.

[01:17:51] You didn't because this is a family show, and that's very nice of you.

[01:17:54] That's right.

[01:17:54] My character did.

[01:17:56] You were thinking of the audience.

[01:17:58] That's right.

[01:18:00] Okay.

[01:18:01] So that's it for this episode.

[01:18:03] We're going to continue on with Disney World Moderate Resorts before we come back to finish up the Disneyland Resorts Moderate Resorts.

[01:18:12] Will Dan?

[01:18:13] Riverside, the hotel themed to Riverside, California.

[01:18:17] They pump smog in.

[01:18:22] I don't know if you know this.

[01:18:23] Riverside, California is one of the smogiest places in the world.

[01:18:27] I don't know that.

[01:18:28] Every room is under a freeway overpass.

[01:18:31] Yes.

[01:18:32] And there's an indoor swap meet.

[01:18:36] That's their restaurant and their shopping, their gift shop.

[01:18:42] And so I went on a tour of UC Riverside back when I was looking at schools to go to.

[01:18:48] When I was at the normal age that someone would do that, by the way, not in my 30s.

[01:18:55] That would be weird.

[01:18:57] And I.

[01:18:58] Dan Gates over here.

[01:19:01] And no, no, no, no, not like that.

[01:19:04] Oh.

[01:19:08] The joke there is that I was in community college for a very long time and then transferred to a real school at an age that people don't usually do.

[01:19:15] But anyway, and they were, everything was going well.

[01:19:19] We were on a tour and one of the parents asked, what's the air quality like here?

[01:19:24] And the, the, the poor student giving the tour had no, they were just, they had no idea.

[01:19:29] They were just being very polite and like, oh, it's, you know, it's Southern California.

[01:19:33] So you do have some amount, but it's, you know, it's very nice and very pleasant.

[01:19:36] We have a lot of runners.

[01:19:37] You know, they're just giving the answer that they think they should give.

[01:19:40] They don't actually know the answer.

[01:19:42] And I'm like, um, actually, I, I hate to do this, but the way the geography is set up.

[01:19:55] Is kind of guarantees that all of the smog in Southern California will end up in Riverside.

[01:20:03] Yeah.

[01:20:03] Don't take a full breath is what you're saying.

[01:20:06] And I just, I looked at the, it's like, I'm really sorry.

[01:20:10] I'm not trying to be this person.

[01:20:13] I just happen to know this.

[01:20:18] There you go.

[01:20:19] Yeah.

[01:20:19] So that's the Port Orleans Riverside.

[01:20:26] Anyway, more history like that to come on the next episode of the Supreme Resort.

[01:20:31] Can't wait.

[01:20:31] Be sure to listen to other shows on the network.

[01:20:34] Ears up, of course, ears up in depth.

[01:20:36] Please still listen.

[01:20:39] The puny pod about Marvel, the Star Wars podcast.

[01:20:43] What's going on with Star Wars?

[01:20:45] I heard all kinds of announcements.

[01:20:46] Daisy Ridley.

[01:20:48] Can I just, can I just say?

[01:20:49] Too woke.

[01:20:50] Dude, what isn't Dan?

[01:20:52] I know.

[01:20:53] This podcast is too woke.

[01:20:54] Anyway.

[01:20:56] You know what?

[01:20:57] I was the one that made that cover.

[01:20:59] Was that right?

[01:21:00] Was you?

[01:21:01] Real me.

[01:21:02] Wow.

[01:21:03] Every once in a while.

[01:21:04] Yeah.

[01:21:04] Real Dan.

[01:21:05] It's a treasure trove of discovery.

[01:21:07] This real Dan comes out.

[01:21:09] Tell us what you want.

[01:21:10] A couple of nickelobes.

[01:21:10] But still five stars.

[01:21:14] Yeah, exactly.

[01:21:15] Say whatever you want.

[01:21:16] Call us whatever you want.

[01:21:17] Just make sure there's five stars.

[01:21:19] And then there's Scraping the Vault.

[01:21:22] Eric has recently gone back and re-listened to Scraping the Vault and he's really enjoyed it.

[01:21:27] You know what?

[01:21:28] The Cats episode, still one of my favorites.

[01:21:31] It was a great episode.

[01:21:33] That's where we discovered I was a furry.

[01:21:34] I'm listening to Mall High Drive right now too.

[01:21:37] And the next episode on Scraping the Vault to be released is...

[01:21:42] We haven't released it, right?

[01:21:43] Mickey's Christmas Carol.

[01:21:43] No, I have a Christmas one.

[01:21:44] Mickey's Christmas Carol.

[01:21:45] Oh.

[01:21:46] Can I get on a secret?

[01:21:47] I haven't edited it yet either.

[01:21:48] Okay.

[01:21:49] It'll happen.

[01:21:49] So that'll be the next one.

[01:21:51] That's our Christmas release.

[01:21:52] And then Koyaanis Katzi is to come.

[01:21:55] Yep.

[01:21:56] Very similar vibes.

[01:21:59] It's, you know, it's just the usual stuff that we do.

[01:22:02] But that's your character, Dan.

[01:22:04] Well, yes.

[01:22:05] I thought to myself, what would my woke character want to watch?

[01:22:10] What leftist, lived up garbage would...

[01:22:16] You've developed such an interesting backstory for Fake Dan.

[01:22:21] Yeah.

[01:22:22] He's been working on it a long time.

[01:22:24] I really have.

[01:22:25] And you know what?

[01:22:26] I just got to say, once again, it's really freeing to just let go of it.

[01:22:30] To just be you.

[01:22:30] To just actually be who I've always been deep inside.

[01:22:34] It's about time.

[01:22:35] Yeah.

[01:22:36] I think this is going to get a lot more fun.

[01:22:37] As real Dan gets explored.

[01:22:42] Okay.

[01:22:43] Anyway.

[01:22:44] So until next time.

[01:22:46] Oh, yeah.

[01:22:47] Concierge.

[01:22:48] Concierge.

[01:22:48] Call them.

[01:22:49] 8, 5, 6 hour ears.

[01:22:51] We're coming up on our next group tour to Disney World.

[01:22:56] First time concierge AEP meeting in Orlando in February.

[01:22:59] Eric, you going to be there?

[01:23:00] I sure am.

[01:23:01] I'm going to be educating people about the Riviera Hotel.

[01:23:05] Yeah.

[01:23:06] I'm excited.

[01:23:06] You're an owner.

[01:23:07] I, uh, Lindsay was supposed to call me.

[01:23:10] I missed that.

[01:23:10] I was in Amsterdam during that meeting.

[01:23:11] Anyway.

[01:23:12] I'm sorry.

[01:23:12] Before we continue.

[01:23:13] We haven't done the Pledge of Allegiance yet.

[01:23:15] Should we do that after we record or during the record?

[01:23:20] We'll do it at the end as always.

[01:23:21] Okay.

[01:23:22] Every episode.

[01:23:23] Every episode.

[01:23:25] Okay.

[01:23:25] Uh, listen to after hours where you can hear us do the Pledge of Allegiance.

[01:23:29] That's all it is.

[01:23:30] That's it.

[01:23:31] And we swear a lot during.

[01:23:33] Yeah.

[01:23:35] Anyway.

[01:23:35] All right.

[01:23:36] Well, thank you for listening listeners.

[01:23:38] Uh, we'll be back next time with the moderate resorts at Walt Disney World Resort.

[01:23:42] Until next time.

[01:23:43] God bless America.

[01:23:44] Be good to each other.

[01:23:45] Be real like Dan.

[01:23:48] And rewind.

[01:23:49] Be good to each other.

[01:23:51] And until then, Court is adjourned.

[01:23:56] Oh, I also, I want to apologize to Tom Corliss for everything.

[01:24:31] Oh yeah.

[01:24:32] You and Tom are best buddies.

[01:24:33] We're, we're pin pals.

[01:24:37] Real Dan loves Tom.

[01:24:39] Yep.

[01:24:40] A fresh baked guy.

[01:24:41] Don't, not a fan.

[01:24:45] Fresh baked.

[01:24:48] Well, that's good timing because my family just opened the garage door.

[01:24:52] There you go.

[01:24:53] To pick me up to go pick out our Christmas tree.

[01:24:55] Zwing.

[01:24:58] You can stop or tell.

[01:25:01] Tell.
