[00:00:00] This is your son. Hi Jim, how are you? So do you always dress like this? Well when I go out yeah I most normally dress like this.

[00:00:30] So if you have the eccentric ones may have but it's basically based on a vision out of literature.

[00:00:36] And so what does this say about you? You think you or you wanted to say it's an expression of who you are. So what is the saying?

[00:00:44] Well it's basically an expression of my emotions and in my inner self. I just say you feel good or like when I see this I'm supposed to feel that you feel confident strong Victorian.

[00:00:59] Well my mom says it's depressing and weird but you think it's depressing and weird. But it obviously isn't to you. No I feel very comfortable dressing like this.

[00:01:13] When did this start? About five years now. First it was punk the shave Ted and it was always black mostly but now he's painting the face and I can't understand that and the lips.

[00:01:27] How old are you? How do I'm 19? Are you in school or out of school? I'm in school presently. And so in school can you go to school dress like this? I'm sure I could although I haven't yet I normally dress like this but I don't normally put on makeup for school or work.

[00:01:42] Okay and so the makeup represents what? It basically how I dress on the outside is an expression of how I feel on the inside.

[00:01:51] So the makeup really doesn't represent anything. I mean it's just I feel like dressing this way. And as a mom you're frustrated because he's what you would like him to look another way obviously.

[00:02:02] Handsome looking guy. But like this? Does it cause problems at home? No I support him. I love him but when we go out it's like the only place I go with him is to the video store.

[00:02:16] From the ashes of the joke I made up several minutes ago it's stripping the vault. Oh yeah. Yeah.

[00:02:31] That's right that was Eric. He's he's he's taken over for me and this he's just shadowing just like student teaching situation. Good job Eric I think we're going to work on some of your TV's there.

[00:02:48] Hey, where are the podcasts that we watch a straight video Disney's sequels normally but hold on there it is.

[00:02:57] And we have been listening to watching sorry. We watched a Christmas movie now we watched Labyrinth and now the show starts and Jimmy wants to say something Jimmy's here.

[00:03:11] Reminds me of when you go to dinner somewhere in the like somebody comes up is like hi I'm Dan this Eric will both be here today.

[00:03:20] Clearly one of them is shadowing me there and that was Audrey. She's there hello. Hello and now Eric started us out. Oh, by the way I'm Dan. Hi dad. Hey, we're all here. Hey, we watched a little something what am I what am I from my year? Oh, that's right you were from Bowie explaining yes several other podcasts but let me tell you about our hit show Bowie explaining.

[00:03:47] It's me and my friend Dan no relation to this Dan. He died several years ago and we recorded like 38 episodes not Dan. Oh, yeah, Bowie Bowie died several years ago.

[00:04:05] And Dan and I recorded 38 episodes and we're slowly releasing them. And what if you stand? What if you learn about David Bowie? What have I learned about David Bowie? This will count as our history segment for the movie that we watched.

[00:04:20] Okay, David Bowie started out as a free Mason and also known as a man to say some guy clocked him in the eye and his eye turned blue.

[00:04:35] During that time he also made out with many women and also men and had a child who was named Bowie. And one of the men was not responsible for the siren of this child.

[00:04:56] And he wrote a song about him and we've had several episodes about the music that David Bowie made not the child Bowie. And just moving Bowie Bowie Bowie?

[00:05:13] It's no, that would be ridiculous. It's Zoe Bowie.

[00:05:16] Zoe Bowie.

[00:05:17] Zoe Bowie.

[00:05:18] It's a Duncan.

[00:05:20] It's Duncan.

[00:05:21] They named him Zoe Duncan Bowie. I think are Jones rather? I don't know why because the name's always been Bowie.

[00:05:32] Zoe Duncan Bowie Jones.

[00:05:34] Zoe Duncan Joey bones bones bones.

[00:05:39] And here he is on this show to be with us today.

[00:05:44] He's very close.

[00:05:47] It's me Zoe Bowie Jonesy bones from the user.

[00:05:53] He's less quiet than we thought. Zoe Joey is also Chan-o-ing.

[00:06:01] I know a thing too about the blues.

[00:06:05] But I don't know much about a movie is what just wow.

[00:06:11] There's an earned earner.

[00:06:15] He's my intern.

[00:06:17] Oh, there's your coffee boss.

[00:06:19] I didn't know if you wanted it with sugar or some milk.

[00:06:26] No, no sugar.

[00:06:28] Did you want some oat milk?

[00:06:30] No, I ran out so I put a little sore.

[00:06:33] No thank you.

[00:06:35] No thank you.

[00:06:38] When are we going to scare if you care for some goat milk?

[00:06:42] Pays.

[00:06:43] When are we going to start recording?

[00:06:45] Friends.

[00:06:46] And my only means it conveyance.

[00:06:49] But I guess that there was a fallout.

[00:06:51] Zoe a regular on your.

[00:06:54] No, Zoe is Bowie's planning.

[00:06:56] No, Zoe is a special guest for this.

[00:07:01] I needed to bring my intern for this appearance where I'm not

[00:07:05] with Dan.

[00:07:06] No relation by the way to Zoe.

[00:07:09] If I knew we could have interns,

[00:07:11] I would have brought mine but I don't have one who I may or may not refer

[00:07:17] to his gooey douche noth.

[00:07:19] Audrey, who is your?

[00:07:22] I don't have one yet.

[00:07:24] I'm actively accepting applications so if you or a friend.

[00:07:27] I think Zoe would accept.

[00:07:29] If you know someone who's looking for a great job,

[00:07:32] good benefits, shoot them my way.

[00:07:37] Hello, Alice.

[00:07:40] It sounds like a nice song.

[00:07:42] No, I'm sorry we already had an interview.

[00:07:46] We sent you an email explaining why you didn't get their position.

[00:07:50] I watched all your.

[00:07:52] Yeah, watching.

[00:07:54] Thank you for that.

[00:07:56] Is this is that salt in the salt or salt in the chair dog?

[00:08:01] I'm the soul team.

[00:08:04] From the moon on Roos.

[00:08:07] 17.

[00:08:09] Name salt team.

[00:08:13] We watched labyrinth.

[00:08:15] Labyrinth.

[00:08:19] Yeah.

[00:08:20] Do you want to take over your show?

[00:08:22] I'll show it to you.

[00:08:23] Listen, it's your show.

[00:08:24] Show myself out.

[00:08:26] It brings Zoe with you.

[00:08:28] No, hang on.

[00:08:30] Anyway, we watched labyrinth.

[00:08:34] We have...

[00:08:35] This is dealer's choice season.

[00:08:38] Last month we watched Alvin and the Chipmunk Christmas special.

[00:08:43] This month watching labyrinth.

[00:08:46] That was Dan's choice.

[00:08:48] Next choice, Audrey's team.

[00:08:50] Yeah, I got to figure that out.

[00:08:53] Yep, now we're back to the straight to video Disney sequels.

[00:08:56] By the way, just to clear things up, I believe this episode is going to be released on the 20th

[00:09:02] because we forgot that we have another show to do.

[00:09:05] Stay tuned.

[00:09:07] This is the screen.

[00:09:08] The screeners are...

[00:09:09] We'll be at a release around the 30th and this is the 20th.

[00:09:12] Yeah.

[00:09:13] Welcome.

[00:09:14] This is the 20th, the Iads of January.

[00:09:17] Someone posted...

[00:09:18] We watched real quick side.

[00:09:20] Someone posted something that's said today is blue Monday.

[00:09:23] It's the saddest day of the year and I didn't know.

[00:09:28] I'm having a pretty good day but it's not over yet.

[00:09:32] Pretty good day.

[00:09:33] Could get sad.

[00:09:34] MLK Day.

[00:09:35] The saddest day of the year?

[00:09:37] I don't get it.

[00:09:39] Do you know what's closed today?

[00:09:42] On Martin Luther King Day, I live in Atlanta.

[00:09:44] Is there a hint?

[00:09:45] Oh no.

[00:09:46] The Coke Factory?

[00:09:47] No.

[00:09:48] Oh good.

[00:09:49] That peach factory?

[00:09:50] The Martin Luther King memorial is closed today.

[00:09:53] Oh, that makes...

[00:09:56] That actually makes a weird sort of sense.

[00:09:58] Right.

[00:09:59] I mean I get to get to get to it's a government thing and government shutdown but have all things

[00:10:02] to shut down on MLK Day that the place he's buried?

[00:10:06] Anyway, we wanted to go instead of recording this God-based podcast.

[00:10:11] Is that buried in the Coke Factory?

[00:10:14] In the vult that has the Coke-Color recipe, there's an okay.

[00:10:21] Oh.

[00:10:22] So respect.

[00:10:25] We saw Labrins.

[00:10:27] We watched it legally.

[00:10:29] I should add.

[00:10:30] We love the law especially.

[00:10:32] I sure did.

[00:10:33] We loved the law.

[00:10:34] Can I tell you what?

[00:10:36] There's a movie theater I'd mentioned in the cold open if you will.

[00:10:41] That we went to see our favorite movie theaters called the Movie Tavern.

[00:10:44] It's owned by Marcus Theaters.

[00:10:46] If anybody familiar with Marcus Theaters, the Marcus who owns it, he's a real douche-notsle.

[00:10:53] Anyway, they bring you food.

[00:10:55] Not gooey douche-notsle.

[00:10:57] No relation.

[00:10:58] To be clear.

[00:10:59] Yes, you called.

[00:11:00] Anyway.

[00:11:01] So I'm googling where to watch Labrins and it says, oh Amazon Prime.

[00:11:09] Go to Amazon Prime.

[00:11:10] Not available.

[00:11:11] Roku, you name it.

[00:11:12] I went everywhere.

[00:11:13] The only place I can watch Labrins is March 6th at the Movie Tavern.

[00:11:18] Okay.

[00:11:19] No, it ain't even though it won't hear.

[00:11:21] And who are you dressing up as?

[00:11:23] A giant Bruce Meffler.

[00:11:26] Yeah.

[00:11:27] I borrowed a DVD from my father in law.

[00:11:32] Thanks.

[00:11:33] And I purchased an item.

[00:11:37] Thank you, Eric's father in law.

[00:11:39] Yeah.

[00:11:40] Internet.

[00:11:41] It wasn't a laser disc, Eric?

[00:11:43] No, it was not a laser disc.

[00:11:45] My laser disc player is down, which is why I had to borrow the DVD.

[00:11:49] I used a time machine and traveled back to 19, and then watched it at theaters.

[00:11:56] 86.

[00:11:57] Yeah.

[00:11:59] 86.

[00:12:00] For those for our listeners who were not alive when this movie came out, a laser disc is like a giant DVD.

[00:12:06] I feel like you almost said record, and then you do.

[00:12:10] It's like a silver record.

[00:12:13] Silver record.

[00:12:15] So Jimmy and Audrey, you did not see this movie until recently.

[00:12:20] No, I didn't.

[00:12:21] Until recently.

[00:12:22] In fact, I finished it mere hours ago.

[00:12:24] I watched it yesterday.

[00:12:25] I'm curious.

[00:12:26] I remember.

[00:12:27] If you don't mind me hijacking the show, Audrey go ahead and tell us what you saw.

[00:12:32] I'm not the, I didn't write anything down.

[00:12:36] I didn't do my homework.

[00:12:38] Sorry, teach.

[00:12:39] But when, I'll tell you a little story.

[00:12:42] When Blockbuster was still a thing, I remember as a kid going there with the family to pick out a movie.

[00:12:47] And instead of helping my family pick a movie, I was standing and staring up at the TV screen,

[00:12:54] which was playing a copy of Labyrinth without sound.

[00:12:59] And I remember just like, you know, like catching flies staring up at this movie screen because I was like, what the hell is this movie?

[00:13:07] And I remember seeing the part where she's running back and forth in the maze.

[00:13:13] And I must have been like, that must have been six.

[00:13:17] The first part where it's just completely straight.

[00:13:21] I don't know.

[00:13:22] It was very young.

[00:13:23] And I was like, that's, that was my introduction to the movie.

[00:13:26] And then I, you know, I kind of seen pictures of this beautiful ball gown from all the cosplayers that I follow on Instagram.

[00:13:34] And it's like, oh, I finally did the Labyrinth ball gown.

[00:13:37] And I was like, wow, this must be a really important part of the movie because it's such a nice dress.

[00:13:44] Or it's two minutes.

[00:13:45] I had seen, I had seen the magic juggling ball and like learned that, you know, the insider scoop that it was actually some guy putting his hands through bowies arms and making it look like David Bowie was doing it, but he wasn't.

[00:14:00] So like, that was my, that's how I know what goes on.

[00:14:06] But if you wanted to play with David Bowie's balls, it's really easy.

[00:14:11] Everywhere.

[00:14:12] I was going to say low hanging fruit, but that in itself is a joke.

[00:14:16] I was thinking of the beaches.

[00:14:20] There's really fun.

[00:14:22] There's a, there are several really fun videos out there of that, the ball juggler thing.

[00:14:29] Who like was so frustrated because they're, they're used to seeing what they're doing.

[00:14:38] And they couldn't see what they were doing.

[00:14:39] So they had like just kept dropping them constantly and they were so frustrated.

[00:14:44] And Bowie's just like laughing the whole time.

[00:14:46] He's just like, uh, it's like, he didn't care.

[00:14:50] He's like, that's funny.

[00:14:52] He wants to be bold.

[00:14:53] That's not self.

[00:14:54] I wouldn't need you.

[00:14:58] If you want to see balls dropping, just look down.

[00:15:01] Um, that was my best David Bowie.

[00:15:03] Here's what I knew about this movie.

[00:15:05] Yeah.

[00:15:06] David Bowie's.

[00:15:07] Yep.

[00:15:08] That is all I knew about this movie.

[00:15:10] If you were to ask me what it was about, I would say it was very dark.

[00:15:12] There would be a lot of lasers in dark lasers, dark caves.

[00:15:18] Okay.

[00:15:19] Disco balls.

[00:15:20] There was a ton of glitter.

[00:15:22] There's glitter every year.

[00:15:24] There's a lot of glitter.

[00:15:26] Did I know that Jim Henson had anything to do with it?

[00:15:29] Nope.

[00:15:30] Wow.

[00:15:31] And I know that George Lucas had anything to do with it.

[00:15:33] Nope.

[00:15:34] Did I know there were muppets?

[00:15:35] Nope.

[00:15:36] I didn't know anything about it.

[00:15:37] Oh, David Bowie's in it.

[00:15:38] So this was quite a surprise for you.

[00:15:39] Wow.

[00:15:40] Surprise.

[00:15:41] That's why my alternate titles.

[00:15:44] I mentioned where James Henson's alternate title was because I wanted to.

[00:15:50] And the other alternate title is the Muppets take Castle.

[00:15:53] Move it.

[00:15:54] That's good.

[00:15:55] That's it.

[00:15:56] That's in like Muppets take Manhattan.

[00:15:58] It's good.

[00:15:59] See the movie to understand.

[00:16:01] Everybody has seen the movie.

[00:16:03] I don't know what's wrong with you two.

[00:16:05] I don't know we watched it all.

[00:16:07] In a school assembly.

[00:16:09] In middle school, where we had like it was one of those days where they're like,

[00:16:15] we don't know what to do with these kids.

[00:16:17] And we all went into the gym.

[00:16:19] This is a big gym, right?

[00:16:21] And we had like four TVs set up Daisy chain together with the VHS version of

[00:16:28] Lebrunth.

[00:16:29] That's the first time I saw Lebrunth was in like 1989.

[00:16:34] God, whoever figured out how to do that was like the AV wizard of your school knowing

[00:16:40] what I know about how school is operating.

[00:16:42] The first thing was like, I don't know get 10 on it.

[00:16:45] You could do anything.

[00:16:48] It's fun.

[00:16:49] I only have to buy one VHS we're good.

[00:16:52] And so Eric and Dan you'd both seen it already.

[00:16:55] So we don't have to find out what you thought it was about.

[00:16:57] I have seen it countless times as a Bowie fan.

[00:17:01] And I have not enjoyed that.

[00:17:03] I've not liked this movie.

[00:17:05] Yeah he has mentioned this before.

[00:17:07] And I have found it depressed in terms of like where he was with this career and all

[00:17:17] of that.

[00:17:18] I did what I usually do with this show and I tried watching it just as a movie.

[00:17:23] And I really enjoyed it.

[00:17:25] Well, that's good.

[00:17:26] Yeah, I mean watching it as a movie.

[00:17:29] I mean, I didn't know who David Bowie was for most of the times I watched this movie.

[00:17:35] And I've always enjoyed it.

[00:17:37] He was Jared.

[00:17:39] Except for a few parts that I don't like so much anymore.

[00:17:42] He was the only non-muppet besides Jennifer Connolly.

[00:17:45] My girlfriend.

[00:17:47] Yes.

[00:17:48] Major crush on Jennifer Connolly.

[00:17:49] Not Jennifer Connolly, not this version.

[00:17:51] Not Jennifer Garner?

[00:17:52] No.

[00:17:53] Never had a crush on Jennifer Garner.

[00:17:55] Jennifer Garner, I'm sorry.

[00:17:57] Sorry, Jen.

[00:17:58] I personally think Jennifer Garner is more attractive than Jennifer Connolly.

[00:18:02] That's what I mean.

[00:18:03] I mean, but she's got the dimples.

[00:18:04] She's a better actress maybe than Jennifer Connolly.

[00:18:07] Audrey are you and team Garner or Connolly?

[00:18:09] Team Connolly.

[00:18:12] Me too.

[00:18:13] Because all I can think of is Jim Garner when I hear Jennifer Garner.

[00:18:25] Jennifer Garner's her features are two.

[00:18:29] Devil Wars product.

[00:18:30] They're a bit too strong for me.

[00:18:32] Jennifer Connolly is a little softer.

[00:18:34] This is purely visual.

[00:18:36] All right.

[00:18:37] So Jennifer Connolly, all right.

[00:18:41] You won the episode.

[00:18:45] Thanks.

[00:18:46] So for you, this is her...

[00:18:48] I'm going to put that one to bed.

[00:18:50] Labyrinth is in 1986 musical fantasy film.

[00:18:55] It was directed by Jim Hanson.

[00:18:57] Oh, yeah.

[00:18:58] Oh, yeah.

[00:18:59] Executive produced by George Lucas.

[00:19:01] And in terms of Bowie history, it is smack dab between two of his worst albums.

[00:19:08] They are so bad that fans will frequently have debates over what his worst.

[00:19:16] So what was it about this movie that David Bowie said?

[00:19:19] Yes.

[00:19:20] What was the...

[00:19:21] Was it like to boost his career?

[00:19:22] Was it to salvage his career?

[00:19:24] Did he owe Jim Hanson a favor?

[00:19:27] He lost a bet to Jim Hanson.

[00:19:29] Well, his career at this time was actually not at its highest but it wasn't declining yet.

[00:19:39] Creatively he was provably out of ideas for music.

[00:19:47] But...

[00:19:48] And this is part of what made...

[00:19:51] So after I enjoyed watching this, I kind of watched some more videos to like catch up to just be like,

[00:19:56] okay, well, what do people who like this movie have to say about it that are intelligent?

[00:20:00] Not like weird golf people who are like not like me.

[00:20:03] No, it's Jared.

[00:20:04] I'm sad.

[00:20:05] But like...

[00:20:07] Jared's is me.

[00:20:10] I think it was...

[00:20:14] Like, it was sort of a breath of creative fresh air when he needed one because it was like,

[00:20:21] hey, here's this thing that you wouldn't think to do.

[00:20:24] We need some...

[00:20:25] We need a pop star specifically David Bowie.

[00:20:28] They wrote the part for him.

[00:20:31] And I think his take on it was like, yeah, let's see what this is.

[00:20:36] Which is kind of fitting with how he worked creatively, just sort of this feeling of like,

[00:20:42] I don't know, sounds like fun.

[00:20:44] Like I could do that for a couple months.

[00:20:46] Let's see what happened there.

[00:20:48] And I think he appreciated the challenge of writing songs for it that were not super obvious.

[00:20:56] They were not obvious songs.

[00:20:58] It's true.

[00:20:59] No, no, they weren't like...

[00:21:00] I think like, magic dance is probably the most obvious plot-based sort of song.

[00:21:06] But you know, songs like Underground Within You, Chili Down, those are kind of...

[00:21:13] He was able to do more things with more creative things with like the plot themes in the lyrics that if you dig into it,

[00:21:21] you can kind of see like, oh, here's what Bowie was thinking about this.

[00:21:25] I like that he wasn't...

[00:21:27] It is kind of a crazy move.

[00:21:30] And it could be image killing, if it were any other person.

[00:21:36] But for him, I guess it has that kind of element of like,

[00:21:40] I'm not going to be too precious about my image as an artist and performer.

[00:21:44] So why the hell not do a movie with Muppets?

[00:21:49] Yeah, that's actually perfectly put to have it just be like, well,

[00:21:53] listen, not do it not to stuff.

[00:21:56] Oh, why?

[00:21:59] Oh.

[00:22:01] He got better after it's fine.

[00:22:05] Yeah, at some point I want to unpack what all of the point was if there is a point.

[00:22:12] And what...

[00:22:14] We can talk about what happened in the movie, but what the hell was Jareth?

[00:22:18] And why was Jareth?

[00:22:20] Good question.

[00:22:21] What does any of it mean?

[00:22:23] Like I was waiting for some kind of lesson or evolution,

[00:22:28] or this is fundamentally what this character learned.

[00:22:32] But there was nothing.

[00:22:34] Like I did not get any arc at all,

[00:22:38] which is where I came up with Jim Henson interviewing Jim Henson.

[00:22:42] So what was your objective of this movie?

[00:22:45] Because I wanted to.

[00:22:48] I mean, ultimately yeah, you're right.

[00:22:51] There's not a lot of growth other than Jennifer Garner.

[00:22:57] Obviously Jennifer Garner is character.

[00:23:01] Like Sarah at the end of the movie,

[00:23:04] she comes back around to a speech that she memorized from a book

[00:23:07] that we don't know anything about.

[00:23:10] And you have no power over me.

[00:23:13] I suppose there's some growth.

[00:23:15] The brother, she never loved the brother.

[00:23:18] He's a burden to her.

[00:23:20] And then she forgets about him for a while.

[00:23:23] And she comes back and I'm like, oh yeah, I have a little brother.

[00:23:26] And then she just doesn't go like go check on him till a little bit later.

[00:23:30] She was a teenage jerk.

[00:23:32] And she's got a little baby brother.

[00:23:35] And she realized, oh wait, there are bigger things than me

[00:23:40] and my walking around the park in a gown reading out of the book.

[00:23:46] So she was a lover, but she's a lover farmer.

[00:23:49] That's what it felt like to me.

[00:23:51] She had like a pitty coat.

[00:23:52] She had a post office all over her bedroom like cats, the musical.

[00:23:55] So she's either in a play in high school or something.

[00:24:00] There's some like escapism element.

[00:24:04] It's very escapism.

[00:24:06] That's the whole movie.

[00:24:07] But I think they got kind of close to something meaningful

[00:24:11] with the whole, the trash heap people who were there to clutter her

[00:24:17] or overload her with stuff.

[00:24:20] And I think it was stuff that doesn't really matter.

[00:24:22] Yeah, they were trying to make a point with that,

[00:24:24] but it doesn't carry the whole movie.

[00:24:27] But there was no point where she thought that belongings

[00:24:32] was the most important thing.

[00:24:33] And I get that she got friends along the way.

[00:24:36] I don't know, but like, was it actually a dream?

[00:24:39] Can I set the size what had a had an arc?

[00:24:42] Yeah.

[00:24:43] Can I set the size what a lot of YouTube commentators have said?

[00:24:46] Hoggle.

[00:24:47] Hog word.

[00:24:48] They called them hog word by the way.

[00:24:50] Yes.

[00:24:51] Yes.

[00:24:52] According to several YouTube's that seemed intelligent that I watched.

[00:24:57] First off, it's a hero's journey story with the female protagonist.

[00:25:02] Who are you really, who are you?

[00:25:04] And the hero's life.

[00:25:05] Aren't you the head of a city and the head of that city.

[00:25:06] That is the taste of the story.

[00:25:07] That makes me sick.

[00:25:08] And I think it's kind of the softest.

[00:25:09] Which in it.

[00:25:10] You lost me.

[00:25:12] Which, which feels like that's kind of the main point is like George Luke

[00:25:15] because it was like, well, what if we just did it like this and then

[00:25:17] Jude and Hitson was like, yeah, that's how to trim it?

[00:25:19] I know.

[00:25:20] I'm just holding.

[00:25:21] And then that turned into this weird thing where they're like,

[00:25:27] Okay, what if we take all of these stories and fantasy elements like the MCS or stuff

[00:25:34] and like things that a kid at that age at that time would have been into, you know,

[00:25:38] Wisder Vah's, Alice in Wonderland. And if you notice as they, as the camera scans her room,

[00:25:44] it shows all of these, these influences. And then it kind of lingers on this spot that you

[00:25:50] wouldn't know to look for if YouTube didn't tell you to look for it. But apparently her mom is an

[00:25:55] actress. And she like a real mom, not her stereotypical lady stepmom. Right, right.

[00:26:04] Who by the way, the stepmom is actually, she's like, no, I want you to have a life. You should be

[00:26:11] dating. Like what is wrong with it? And she's and Sarah is in this sort of like

[00:26:18] she's not really wanting to grow up. And you know, she has her, I guess her mama band in the family

[00:26:24] with this actor who in the pictures is played by David Bowie. Yeah, okay. Yeah, okay. Now we're

[00:26:32] getting some kind of substance. So Sarah's in this. This is a wizard of Oz, isn't it? Yeah, it's

[00:26:38] very Wizard of Oz and never go to that part. Yeah. And so Sarah, and this is again, I'm just

[00:26:45] filtering through a lot of YouTube stuff and I'm not saying that I agree or disagree. They say I'm

[00:26:50] fine. It's sort of this idea of Sarah is trying, is not wanting to let go of being a self-estrialled

[00:27:03] who doesn't want to watch, you know, the McGuff and known as Toby. And battling with, she doesn't

[00:27:13] want to grow up but she knows that she, some part of her knows that she has to enter Jareth,

[00:27:19] who by the way knows, I think knows that he is cast in her imagination as a villain, especially

[00:27:28] because at the end he's just like, I was minister. You know, he's saying like, I've done all these things

[00:27:34] for you. I've done, you know, I've played this part for you. I don't know what else I can do to stay

[00:27:39] in your life. Basically, you have defeated me but it's a very, it's whether it was a dream or not.

[00:27:48] I don't think matters because fairy tale logic. But that's kind of,

[00:27:57] it's kind of what YouTube has said. But there's more of course but... Sure and yeah, I just,

[00:28:03] I first of all, I have reserved judgment. I have not, I don't have an opinion of this movie.

[00:28:10] I have not allowed myself to have an opinion of this movie. I have comments through the commentary.

[00:28:15] One time. I watched it one time, started last night and finished this morning. I have notes

[00:28:22] and I would like to understand what the movie is about. I think Dan, you kind of got me closer

[00:28:29] to it actually having a point. Still don't understand what Sarah's arc is. Like at some point,

[00:28:35] is it her lesson is that things are hard and she has to like be responsible for stuff.

[00:28:41] Maybe that's the lesson? The lesson that I've heard people say or some of the

[00:28:45] lessons that I've heard is just the basic letting go of childish things. Like Wendy and Peter Pan.

[00:28:53] Yeah, it's like when this is Wendy... This is basically one of their so many archetypes

[00:28:57] that this is working with. One is the Hades and whatever her face is. Persephone.

[00:29:03] Story. There's that one. Wizard of Oz. There's Somalas and Wonderland in there. They have

[00:29:10] mentioned that this is Peter Pan where Wendy basically rejects Peter Pan. What's the opposite

[00:29:18] of the edipus complex? Where the woman is... Sopady. Suppady. Suppady. Yes.

[00:29:33] Oh, oh, oh. You're gonna see. Does it have elements of that? I don't know. I'm just saying we're

[00:29:38] just saying words. Yeah, that's fine. You're here you're here to see David Bowie's.

[00:29:48] Which by the way that was not a mistake in fact hold on I have a clip where is it? Where is it?

[00:29:54] It's like the devil. You know he's completely alluring completely a character that draws people

[00:30:02] in and are people infatuated with. Oh, that's me. It's better to play the part that

[00:30:06] in a rock star because that's what they are. But at the same time David Bowie is very, very smart

[00:30:10] and very talented. In the way I built the Jarath character I gave him other qualities. He's also

[00:30:17] a romantic hero. He's also contemporary with the lever jacket. It has armor on it. This refers to

[00:30:23] 15th century knights. I gave him a swagger stick. It has a crystal ball but if you look at it

[00:30:29] it's a microphone. There's a lot of subtleties. But why that wig? You're supposed to be a young

[00:30:36] girl's dream of a pop star. We got in a lot of trouble about maybe how tight his pants were but

[00:30:43] that was that was deliberate. It's very eclectic we bring together I think.

[00:30:49] They were very tight pants. David Bowie's back at you. Apparently the

[00:30:54] Serb discipline credit. The opposite of the edipus complex is the electric complex which is where

[00:31:01] the electric. Also played by Jennifer Garner by the way electric. Oh yes. Conful circle.

[00:31:10] Because maybe Jarath is something of her mother's, her mom's boothang. Now she wants to

[00:31:24] stop the boothang or the boothang is somehow intertwined with her which is a weird age gap. It seemed

[00:31:32] a little too much of an age gap. Right. It was very romantic with the ball gown and the seduction

[00:31:39] and she's like this is a succession with the baby. No. It's my Geffen but Audrey going back to what

[00:31:48] you're saying. That is something that some of the commenters have said where it's like maybe Sarah

[00:31:54] is torn between this life where she's kind of tempted to follow in her mom's path

[00:32:02] to also abandon the family because she's more interested in dressing up and

[00:32:10] larping essentially and getting lost in fantasy as kids kind of younger than that are prone to do

[00:32:19] because she's 16 I think. There's not a lot of hard answers of this means this and this is

[00:32:28] that. It's just sort of like it's a Rorschach test of what do you bring to it? I noticed

[00:32:35] that so the time has a lot of that's a lot to do with this. I did notice going around her room,

[00:32:44] a lot of the themes in the room like the MC Escher stairway drawing a lot of things kind of

[00:32:50] were realized there's a couple of nods to the haunted mansion in this movie really not saying

[00:32:55] you're wrong it doesn't I don't think it was necessarily intentional but the clock has a 13th hour

[00:33:01] right right true and if you if you go back and listen to some of the gloomy like doom and gloom

[00:33:09] scary things are about to happen. Do you want to see the reaction commentary people actually caught

[00:33:18] that and I just now remembered that as well yeah okay so let's let's break down what happened

[00:33:25] okay and we can kind of stop and talk about some of the themes as they come now first thing that

[00:33:30] struck me is is this owl in opening credits is this primitive CGI yes or incredibly good

[00:33:37] in public CGI yeah this is I think one of the first usages of CGI like there's you know how like

[00:33:46] as a technology is developing there's all of these this is the first this is the first like

[00:33:51] little tiny micro first this is one of those I could see that now I appreciated it and throughout

[00:33:57] the movie kind of forgetting it was 1986 so often I had to stop myself and think think oh this CGI

[00:34:07] is really only this none of this is CGI it's all very practical yeah outside of the owl that kind

[00:34:14] of got me into the CGI mindset none of this is CG it's all practical effects which is just

[00:34:19] amazing magical and so many parts of this movie it's so henson yeah and so many different uses of

[00:34:28] of muppet like technology yeah or what it is and we'll get to realistic CGI animal

[00:34:37] okay now is the owl always supposed to be David Bowie I think so all right so it opens a white

[00:34:45] barn owl stands in a park where 16 year old Sarah Williams Jennifer Garner is acting out of play

[00:34:53] accompanied by her English sheep dog Merlin Merlin is also the Nate no Lance a lot is the name of

[00:35:00] this stuff the animal that she gives to Toby at the end again no explanation whatsoever other than

[00:35:06] she's like a larper like he said yeah the town clock tower strike seven o'clock we've all just

[00:35:13] acted out things in a park at night right so here's the first thing I had basically she's the

[00:35:19] avatar for all of us theater curtain kid nerd like basically welcome you're listening to the podcast

[00:35:25] all of us yes so what struck me when I see this opening scene is I just assume based on the

[00:35:32] costume in the setting I assume this is Victorian kind of old school this is a flashback that's

[00:35:39] where I go and I'm like they nailed the casting for young Jim for Connolly they nailed it

[00:35:47] then I remember this was 1986 and Jennifer Connolly was in fact I swear to God I'm like they could

[00:35:53] have done a little better but they nailed Jennifer Connolly as a young girl it's not a joke um

[00:36:01] anyways so Sarah remembers just to go home and babysit her little baby brother Toby

[00:36:06] Toby McAfin, Jeremy McAfin, who by the way actor really Toby by the way that actor currently working

[00:36:15] for Jim Henson company nice and his name is Toby yep still wow to this day haven't changed it

[00:36:24] upon returning home Sarah is admonished by hers stereotypical 1980s poofy shoulders stepmother

[00:36:32] who you would not know was the stepmother except the fact that they say stepmother but how would

[00:36:38] you know yeah it's up lots work sometimes all right her name is Irene by the way and she's

[00:36:43] admonished for being late Irene the mean stepmother machine Irene stepmother Williams and then

[00:36:53] stereotype stepmother and then like like therson howl the third's dad like hello love him time to go

[00:37:07] to so 80s anyway they're going out for the evening you're to your point Dan the stepmom's like hey

[00:37:14] listen you're around which is why your babysitting you wouldn't be if you get out you know

[00:37:18] prude nerd you should be dating your 16 and Sarah is not a likable character at this point especially

[00:37:29] at this point so Sarah complains that her parents have started to assume that she'll babysit without

[00:37:36] asking her to which Irene responds that Sarah ought to be have dates at her age this provoked

[00:37:41] Sarah into a rage yeah and by the way makes her more upset how dare you yeah and she storms up stairs

[00:37:47] into a room her parents ensure that to be safe for very very short period of time and they leave

[00:37:54] Sarah who's still sulking in a room upon discovering that her toy bear lance a lot is missing from

[00:38:00] her room miss that part Sarah storms into her brother's room and finds the bear with him

[00:38:07] Sarah flies into a rage and wishes that someone would take her away from this awful place

[00:38:12] the baby lifting a distressed Toby out of his good vape basically telling him a story that mirrors

[00:38:19] her own situation she calms down but as she leaves the room Toby continues to cry and she says I

[00:38:25] wish the goblins would come and take you away right now now this is where there's little flashes

[00:38:31] the goblins do you love I love the little room of goblins where they're like that's not the spell

[00:38:37] before before we get into this I just want to point out we are I was talking about Bowie kind of

[00:38:42] like using his songs to have like his own reflection of the plot um so right before the scene with

[00:38:51] the stepmother we are we hear his song underground lyrics are no one can blame you for walking away

[00:38:59] with too much rejection uh-huh no love injection nothing life can be easy it's not always swell don't

[00:39:06] he doesn't say it's not always fair by the way it don't tell me truth hurts a little girl because

[00:39:10] her hurts like hell and then that's when the stepmother says you should be dating

[00:39:19] so then so she she finally gets this spell right she leaves the room and immediately Toby stops crying

[00:39:26] she goes back and Toby's gone the next thing I observed is what is it what do they call it when

[00:39:35] you record dialogue after the fact ADR this movie was like 90% ADR

[00:39:43] I don't know that I disagree I just never caught that considering it's like Muppets of course

[00:39:48] I think the Muppets were real time I think I think most of Jennifer Connelly's dialogue was ADR

[00:39:57] that would make sense because there was probably a lot of technical stuff happening in the mid mid 80s

[00:40:02] that tracks like it also be to be fair that my very legitimate um fully sanctioned by the MPAA copy

[00:40:11] of this movie could could it just been old I don't know I don't know maybe watch the first go back

[00:40:18] I watched the first 10 minutes and tell me if I'm wrong yeah right now yeah I think you're right thank

[00:40:23] you and while you do that we're gonna take a little break uh listening to the commercials uh that's

[00:40:31] you know how this works uh goodbye hey it's Kaylee Cuoco for price line ready to go to your happy

[00:41:11] and I just seen also introduces some horror elements which is kind of fun if you're

[00:41:16] if you should be dating we get it Dan

[00:41:23] no when she uh tobey even tobey mcguffin has gone and there's like a little creatures

[00:41:29] running around through the room oh yeah yeah it's dark and oh you said horror horror

[00:41:37] oh my it's my knees so tobey disappears I was pretty excited when I saw the goblins for the first time

[00:41:42] because they were also lifelike i don't know practical effects are my favorite 10 out of 10

[00:41:51] well yeah it was a room full of cool and their eyes flat and they're all different looking

[00:41:56] the different places and they were also cool when i such cool designs movie I love to how there's

[00:42:04] like the one that won't shut up and then the one that any time he talked to like shhh yeah

[00:42:11] there's a there was a lot of fun elements to this a lot of fun characters it was very um not

[00:42:16] coincidentally very multi-final yeah cool carry down just carry yep now he's in it or he's

[00:42:21] director maybe really he wrote it he wrote it yeah so like the scene that we're skipping ahead but

[00:42:28] the scene with the two doors and there's the the shield yeah the puppet the puppet heads up on top

[00:42:34] and on the bottom that was very like multi-pithe on yeah anyway so tobey disappears and the barn owl

[00:42:41] we see the barn owl come back to our room um then transforms into jerryth they move goblin king

[00:42:49] he's shown up to the tree the scenery i mean that a good way he looks so awful it's just it's not a good

[00:42:58] look really i hate it the wig oh the wig is terrible i think the eye makeup is kind of cool but the fact

[00:43:06] that he's like the lip color is all wrong it washes him out and then i guess i don't

[00:43:14] the purple top and the light colored bottoms could have been worse i guess but i don't know he looks

[00:43:24] he has a lot of costume changes so ridiculous by the way i i just want to say if you if you have come

[00:43:30] to this episode because you are a boi fan and and you happen to love this movie very much

[00:43:36] i need to apologize for Audrey she doesn't understand that jerryth loves you and that he is your

[00:43:43] secret boyfriend i'm sorry no i get it i get it that jerryth was like a lot of girls like

[00:43:50] you know sexual awakening where they're just like and boys and boys and boys if you're not a girl

[00:43:56] in your listening i hope you understand so like doesn't know that jerryth is your secret boy.

[00:44:02] all those people now whenever they see hair that reminds them of jerryth maybe they get that

[00:44:09] feeling or like if they see someone wearing tight pants like that crotch tingle okay he's just

[00:44:18] so i'm not gonna look like a real person is what i'm trying to say he's not the goblin

[00:44:26] yeah i agree yeah as a as a kid watching this movie yeah he was an unreal

[00:44:32] like specter like what what who is this person what is this person he can move through people

[00:44:39] so like he's and walls he could have been uglier and it would have been more interesting to me

[00:44:45] because all of the goblins are so gobliny and he's like i'm a he doesn't look

[00:44:52] right it doesn't look like the king of the god i mean i would have liked to if he looked a little

[00:44:58] i'm a king of rovers or something i don't know instead of like sparkle pony from burning man

[00:45:04] like he's too clean yeah he's yeah it's okay but he's david bowie but he's not even beautiful he looks

[00:45:13] david bowie okay all right i'll let it go we can move on and he's beautiful i think he's much more

[00:45:18] attractive in this movie like i was a little let down i'll be honest i was like oh i'm supposed to be

[00:45:24] like i want to be attracted to david bowie as garrith but i can't because he just looks so bizarre

[00:45:31] okay so jerryth tells Sarah that um he's taken the baby right and she can have a crystal

[00:45:40] that will reveal all of her dreams which are what well the his crystals can turn into basically

[00:45:47] anything yes i'm sure to be a part of princess and a fairy tale basically yeah okay so but

[00:45:55] he's gonna have all the dreams if she forgets about her brother because for some reason david bowie

[00:46:01] has taken this baby to be a new goblin is that it yeah after all the goblins previously babies they're

[00:46:09] like lost boys yeah i guess i mean the deep yeah the impression is that at yet he steals babies and after

[00:46:16] a certain porn time maybe come goblins well certain porn time i heard that too um i think what's

[00:46:26] missing in that is that he is all of this is only happening because she wants the baby to be taken

[00:46:33] away by the goblins okay because she he's annoying she wants her own life doesn't have to be able to

[00:46:39] so this fictional this this whatever thing that she's either read or made up or whatever

[00:46:44] she's again she's doing that thing that a kid probably it would it would be age appropriate if she was

[00:46:51] like i don't know ten or ten to four fourteen not sixteen you know but this is she's kind of

[00:46:58] stunted and that's part of the point um so this is where we get into that fairy tale logic of like

[00:47:05] i am going what if i actually she and she's talking to to obama kuffin about how like she has

[00:47:13] i just the goblin king granted me these magical powers and i'll say the words don't you

[00:47:19] worry i'll say you better worry i'll say the words and then that's when we introduce this

[00:47:25] other fantasy element of like the goblins who may or may not exist there it's probably just

[00:47:32] her imagination kind of playing along where they're like oh no that's not those are the words

[00:47:40] so it's like what this this purely imaginary thing but the imaginary world has its own set of

[00:47:47] rules and consequences and by the way it knows it's an imaginary world which is where jareth comes in

[00:47:54] and again at the end he basically says like i've been a good villain right i've been i've done everything

[00:47:59] that you wanted a villain to do you know so what then what that's that's what i'm missing

[00:48:06] i've done all this thing so now what now do you continue living in the fantasy world or do you reject

[00:48:15] the fantasy world and embrace the reality that you live in yeah do you grow up or do you become

[00:48:24] tom hanks in the dungeons and dragons movie that he did in the 80s and he went insane i have a

[00:48:30] vhs copy why aren't we watching that one that's next year okay so cesser declines and

[00:48:39] charat says that if you don't come get your brother in 13 hours charat is a charat

[00:48:47] but he is a charat charat charat cute story that's a deep dive for you rest of the elephant fans

[00:48:55] and the show not the band okay so he will become part of he'll be one of us forever if she fails to

[00:49:02] reach him in 13 hours so cesser sets off on her quest and she quickly encounters hoggle how do we

[00:49:11] feel about hoggle yeah he's a by the way he's a dwarf who's the gardener or one of the gardeners

[00:49:20] and jayrus labyrinth uh hoggle was it we see a figure of hoggle in sarah's bedroom before she goes

[00:49:28] into her fugue state and um he's an asshole yeah hottles uh yeah yeah most of the movie a whole time

[00:49:35] I mean he redeems himself over and over again but then he he's an asshole again

[00:49:40] he's he's he's a coward yeah he's he's not

[00:49:45] yeah he's he's he's as a puppet he's extremely impressive

[00:49:51] I'm quite as a puppet yes we love it but he's not a puppet it's a it's a it's a what's the politically

[00:49:58] correct way of saying small person he's a small person with a you know a whatever a

[00:50:04] mechanical massive mechanical face and you can tell that the actor is struggling to walk around

[00:50:10] with that big heavy thing as a head very large head yeah um so here one of the things I'm skipping

[00:50:20] ahead again so hoggle throughout the movie is her friend and her foe kind of constantly getting

[00:50:27] in her way and then saving her out of guilt constantly betraying her but yeah he's got an affection

[00:50:32] for her right because he's somebody called her my friend he's never been a friend before he's a

[00:50:36] coward etc David Bowie says at one point she is going to kiss you and if she kisses you I will turn

[00:50:43] you into a prince so she kisses him and the prince of the land to stench prince of the land of stench

[00:50:51] can can we be happy that he didn't get turned into a prince like he's just threatening the throw

[00:50:57] him into the ball yeah that's that's all that is it's a joke it's a joke it's a land to stench okay I

[00:51:02] just I you lost me in prince anyway yeah I just thought for for that point I'm like are they

[00:51:07] gonna turn him into a prince and she's 16 and then is it really about like love and boys and

[00:51:12] whatever it was not it was a joke my bad according to several YouTubes hoggle is there for her to learn how

[00:51:19] to how to give and give forgiveness because he could raise her over and over again yeah she finally

[00:51:32] has to understand through understanding his point of view and that he is a coward and that he

[00:51:38] is helping her despite being a coward but that is actually a good trait and she forgives him for

[00:51:45] his trash passes as they say in that one yeah that's that's fair because he gives us this day our daily

[00:51:52] bed okay so since Sarah is running through this she goes into the lab and she's running through this

[00:51:57] endless corridor and she finally gives up and she sits down and there's a worm another

[00:52:02] very cool puppet who's like yeah she's like how do I get through he's like oh you just go straight

[00:52:07] through that not everything's as it seems this is a really cool visual effect where it looks like

[00:52:13] a wall and she walks through and it's just it's just the way the camera is set the way the set

[00:52:22] is created it looks like she's walking through it's force perspective right yeah force perspective

[00:52:29] you can't really tell until she walks past the wall then he's okay that's how it's broken out but

[00:52:33] it's a really nice visual effect by the way on these shows force perspective

[00:52:39] yeah

[00:52:41] yeah I'm ready for this

[00:52:41] of course perspective is a monster on this show well on on between the supreme resort supreme

[00:52:47] resort and scary to have a hot it's force perspective if it's something we love very much

[00:52:53] so first she's skeptical and then she finally approached the funds on opening great so Sarah

[00:52:57] enters a new maze like area now the worm says don't go that way never go that way right right

[00:53:04] is that way leads to the center of the castle directly to the castle yeah which is where she's

[00:53:09] trying to go she missed that part yeah so she's in a new labyrinth area and then she finds

[00:53:17] small creatures that that are overturning the stones that she's marking so she's like running

[00:53:22] through this what it looks like a castle courtyard she has a chalk and she's like drawing an arrow

[00:53:28] yep is it lipstick yeah okay so so then she feels like an arrow which direction she's going

[00:53:34] and then immediately these little trolls come up from underneath and flip the stones to change

[00:53:39] the direction in which she was coming so many delightful accents they're very angry

[00:53:46] and all is so by the way according to some of the some of the some of the YouTubes have said that

[00:53:51] uh when one of the things that shows growth for Sarah is whenever she has to use

[00:54:01] whenever she has to like see things for what they may not be it said several times you can't

[00:54:09] think they take things for granted you can't they take things for granted there a lot of repetition

[00:54:14] there's a lot of repetition of that and anytime in the story when she realizes oh I

[00:54:21] shouldn't be taking this for granted and has to like think it through a little bit then it rewards her

[00:54:27] and same thing with her saying it's not fair it's not fair it's not fair over and over again

[00:54:32] and then at some point she has like you keep saying that I wonder what your point of

[00:54:36] comparison is and I think that maybe some of the growth is that like I said before is that

[00:54:41] she's a victim all the time and now she has to like take ownership of her problems and figure it out

[00:54:47] right um so meanwhile are you seeing that there is some growth in Sarah I don't see

[00:54:54] so meanwhile Jareth is seen with Toby in his castle he's celebrating Toby's arrival and that is

[00:55:01] when Jareth sings the best song in the movie magic dance and he gleefully plays with Toby in

[00:55:08] the midst of this golden Audrey does not like this song it's it's it's it's earworming like I was

[00:55:15] I woke up this morning and I was like but what about the babe the babe you do who do

[00:55:21] do do do do do I don't know how the song goes but it's still it's in there and I'm not I'm annoyed

[00:55:30] the back and forth with like there's a dog in this movie that one of the dog puppets who's like

[00:55:36] the guard of the bridge in the bog his steed is a dog yeah right it's a dog and the dog going

[00:55:44] back and forth from actual dog to puppet is I don't want to say seamless but they do a good job

[00:55:50] in this scene throwing the baby around you're right they should have thrown the actual baby it's

[00:55:57] disturbing it's disturbing I mean you can tell when it's a baby and when it's not but it's

[00:56:05] it's disturbing how high it was that baby regardless of it it wasn't weighted correctly they should

[00:56:11] have added more weight to the puppet so then he would he could have something thrown it more

[00:56:16] believably well like they throw him up to hide the fact that it was not an actual baby the baby's

[00:56:22] face was facing away from the camera and the baby lands still facing away from the camera you cut

[00:56:28] two and it had turned around and it's an actual baby this I don't know anyway this and those

[00:56:32] dance steps were not I mean come on not dance a baby would not dance in such a fashion naturally

[00:56:40] I you know this scene has had I've had issues with the scene throughout the years especially because

[00:56:48] of like you know my criticism before was it's the guy who did the Berlin trilogy singing with

[00:56:54] muppets and I just I can't I can't deal with that Dan are you a bully fan similar to my co-host Dan

[00:57:01] yes I believe he sounds like a very cool bowie shirt um

[00:57:11] I thought it was assured about the knife

[00:57:14] wow it's about to bowie Maryland actually I uh there there's there's a part of it where it's just

[00:57:21] like oh he's fallen so far but then again as this being a point of light in between these two

[00:57:28] terrible albums and then also when you imagine oh it's David Bowie on the muppet show

[00:57:35] this is David Bowie on the muppet show and it's just fun and like there's even moments where he sings

[00:57:40] directly into the camera yeah that's it that's that is what this movie is is a giant muppet show

[00:57:47] he's singing to the camera he's singing to muppets yeah and he says the word he does look like he's having fun

[00:57:53] he does yeah yeah and I love in the behind-the-scenes stuff he is just like manhandling those muppets

[00:58:02] because I like yeah they gave them basically they just gave him to cart launch there's like yeah

[00:58:07] we throw these things around the room all the time you could just do whatever you wanted

[00:58:11] and then he thought that baby was also a muppet yep um okay so eventually Sarah encounters the

[00:58:18] four guards which leads to my personal favorite scene um the challenge says she's challenged

[00:58:25] to a logic puzzle one of them always lies one of them always tells the truth I still don't understand

[00:58:29] how she got to the logic but she figured it out goes through the right door uh it's not paying

[00:58:33] attention she falls and the hands the helping hands the hands are just so cool they're so cool

[00:58:42] and these are all practical hands that these whatever puppeteers or whatever make into faces

[00:58:49] complete with pupils nostrils mouths it's remote stitches oh yeah it's clear personalities like you see

[00:58:56] one you see a few other than me like oh I know who that is yeah it's really well done that was my

[00:59:01] favorite part of the movie it's uh a favorite effect I should say when it comes to music it's really

[00:59:06] well done and yeah it's I mean it's a it's Dave Gels and Frank Oz doing like some of the best

[00:59:16] voice work that they do Gonzo and yeah that yeah there's a lot of voice actors in this

[00:59:26] accordingly nervous and then I am reading this fresh how to solve the labyrinth two door riddle

[00:59:32] solve the puzzle you must ask one guard doesn't matter which one which door the other guard would say

[00:59:38] leads out both guards will indicate the same door which would be the door that doesn't lead out

[00:59:44] for purposes of this explainer we'll call the doors a the safe door and b the other door let's discuss

[00:59:52] scenario one the guard you ask is the one who lies if the guard you ask is the one who lies

[00:59:58] then he will lead you astray by telling you falsely that the other guard the truthful guard will

[01:00:03] point you towards door b this makes door a the safe bet the guard if you ask the guard who tells the

[01:00:10] truth he will tell you honestly that the other guard the line guard will point you towards door b

[01:00:17] this makes door a the safe bet does that make sense yep it does okay and she did it we missed the

[01:00:25] missed half of that equation in the movie all right so the hands after Sarah wants to go up or down

[01:00:31] she says down she ends up in the uble yet which is a word I never heard before it which is a dungeon

[01:00:38] that can only be accessed through a hatch in the ceiling there's what an uble yet is so then hoggle

[01:00:45] is sent by Jareth to because then we flash back to Jareth who sees her in the uble yet and she's like

[01:00:50] he's like how did she get there and he's like I'm gonna send one of my goblins to go send her back

[01:00:55] to the beginning she's gonna give up right so um hoggle sent by Jareth to release Sarah from the

[01:01:03] uble yet and by bribing hoggle with a plastic bracelet she has with her Sarah is able to persuade him

[01:01:11] to take her back into the labyrinth this is his first non-betrayal right and there's that door

[01:01:18] effect yes pretty cool the door effect is really cool so he there's there's a wall and then he picks

[01:01:24] up a door from the ground and he opens it to the left by the way no cutting in this no obvious

[01:01:29] cutting in the scene right he opens the door to the left and it's like a closet with a bunch of

[01:01:33] clutter and pots and pans and he's like no wrong door and then he closes the door and then opens

[01:01:38] it to the right and it is now lighted passage and I'm sure there's a cut but oh my god I've watched

[01:01:44] so many times and tried to catch the cut you can't see it it's it's fantastic muppetry

[01:01:50] yep this is one of the moments I'm like the CGI for anything really good

[01:01:55] I can't do now okay so then um so hoggle leads Sarah past a series of huge souls as they journey

[01:02:02] towards the exit yeah this is this is peak money by the way yes it is yeah but they're soon stopped

[01:02:09] by Jareth who demands to know why hoggles helping Sarah nothing talked to me about the false alarms

[01:02:18] right oh it's just a joke but I think it also reinforces the idea that you can't take anything for

[01:02:25] granted anytime you are basically you have to think for yourself and you have to think things through

[01:02:33] and that's sort of like what she's learning okay uh so then hoggles like or excuse me and Jareth is

[01:02:40] like why are you helping Sarah uh Sarah irritates Jareth by describing his labyrinth as a piece of cake

[01:02:47] which provokes him to take some some of her time away rude no longer has 13 hours yeah

[01:02:53] and hoggles response to that is it's wonderful it's like uh

[01:03:00] you idiot so at this point then Jareth sends her to the cleaners or sends the cleaners after

[01:03:09] her and hoggle yes oh yeah this was a cool bit of technology made me think of

[01:03:16] star wars a little bit like the guys are the back and the ones that ticker heads off

[01:03:21] no yeah the the the firies this is the the giant machine that goes down with a little spiky

[01:03:28] spinny thing like the thing that dug the channel yeah which looks like a monster and then it looks

[01:03:34] and then it's like oh it's a machine and then this is actually one of has always been one of my

[01:03:39] favorite parts in the movie because when they finally narrowly escape you see that it's operated

[01:03:47] by just a bunch of goblins no gobble it's like and it looks like it's kind of a it's kind of a

[01:03:54] like piece of crap piece of machine yeah if you knew what was behind it you would be like oh this

[01:04:01] is all just the actual like I could probably hold my hand up against it and be tied

[01:04:07] 100 percent so there's a couple of moments sorry to angle it yeah no but that that's that's sort of

[01:04:13] it's a theme with this movie that I really love and it shows something about I think it goes

[01:04:19] back to Jareth knowing that he is like a man he is pretending to be a threat he's a manufactured

[01:04:26] threat and everything is kind of like held together by duct tape into nails and

[01:04:34] so there would that was one moment then there's a couple other moments that reminded me a lot of

[01:04:39] and probably done by Henson Studios but in men and black the movie there is a character

[01:04:45] as a big tall bald man who's an alien but is powered by this little bitty little space alien thing

[01:04:52] the powers this big giant things as no ma maybe the men and black is an homage to that

[01:04:57] there's a lot of that in this movie there's probably that's probably several amazes because I can

[01:05:01] think of teenage beaten-in-jut turtles character that's the same idea okay yeah it's just you know

[01:05:07] it's a funny thing it's here's the giant threat also here's the tiny thing that runs it that runs

[01:05:13] behind yeah so at this point after Dan like you said they pushed down a wall to avoid the cleaner

[01:05:20] Sarah and Huggle climb of a ladder an emerge in a courtyard which is home to the wise man played by

[01:05:25] one none only Frank Oz who offers Sarah a few words of rambling advice in exchange for her ring

[01:05:32] and he has a hat so let's not forget the hat his hat is also an ostrich it's a it's a labyrinth bird

[01:05:40] it's whatever there's a lot of weird living things yes just like a really cool design I like that

[01:05:49] character all of the character design is phenomenal and Huggle was not happy that she gave him a good ring

[01:05:58] right she got plastic bracelet yeah at some point he she takes Huggle's magic lamp

[01:06:06] no she takes his collection of jewelry because he likes collecting them to which he replies that's not

[01:06:13] fair and she kind of realizes like no it's not but that's just how it is that's another moment

[01:06:20] of course where she's kind of realizing that like oh I I guess life isn't always fair it can be

[01:06:27] just but it's not always fair yeah and then in fact it's this point where Huggle attempts to leave

[01:06:32] that Sarah takes his collection of plastic jewelry that he has attached to his belt and refuses

[01:06:37] to return it to him unless he agrees to lead her through the labyrinth reluctantly Huggle

[01:06:43] agrees to accompany Sarah they both continue through a hedge garden and as they're walking Sarah

[01:06:48] tells Huggle he is the only friend she has in the labyrinth Huggle seems startled by this and

[01:06:54] tells Sarah that he's never had a friend before just after they've changed they are stopped by a

[01:06:59] pained roar and makes Huggle flee in fear despite Sarah's attempts to stop him so they're in this maze

[01:07:06] and it totally takes off he just takes a seat yeah and so Sarah goes to investigate and she finds

[01:07:14] Ludo who is a giant monster hanging from his feet and these little um these little whatever shaggy

[01:07:23] haired monster things like fleshy bitey things on the biting monsters on sticks they're like

[01:07:31] piranhas on sticks and they're also saying things like they I don't know if you heard this but

[01:07:39] they're like so shiteriaki it's a little weird yeah again so many delightful accents that would

[01:07:46] totally fly today gosh so then she wishes for something to throw at them and this is the first

[01:07:52] kind of homage we have to Ludo being able to summon rocks is that he's screaming she wants something

[01:07:59] to throw rocks kind of find their way to her again very well done no cuts rocks rolling

[01:08:07] being pulled directly to her so that she can throw rocks to distract these guards with the

[01:08:12] piranhas sticks I couldn't tell if it was her magic power making that happen or Ludo's like

[01:08:19] when she wishes for it yeah yeah I don't know it's established later on that Ludo does in fact have

[01:08:26] rock summoning powers right rocks are his friends wondering if maybe she's wishing it but his

[01:08:31] screams kind of summon them well I see him she he hears her say that and he's like I could

[01:08:40] get your rock okay so anyway she saves Ludo she you know throws rocks these guys run in fear with

[01:08:48] their piranhas sticks that bite each other now instead of biting Ludo turns out he's a gentle giant

[01:08:53] right again things are not what they seem that's right so they work together and they find doors

[01:09:00] with knockers attached to them the door knockers were wonderful yeah this yes yes this is one

[01:09:06] ever seen one door knocker you listen or picture a door knocker it's a ring that is either you know

[01:09:15] historically in a mouth of some kind of gargoyle or in the case in this case the other one is

[01:09:20] the ring is through the ears are one of the monster gargoyle door knockers so he can't hear anything

[01:09:26] so much you can't hear anything because there's a door knocker in his ears and the other one

[01:09:31] can't talk because there's a door knocker in his mouth and the facial expression on the one who

[01:09:36] can't hear is so great like if it had arms you could picture the arms being like cross neck

[01:09:47] it is the sniff and you see the entire face react to the sniff it's like the puppetry is I

[01:09:52] mean it's Jim Manson so of course that's great so like he she takes the ring out of the one on

[01:09:58] the right's mouth and so he can talk and then you know they're like how do we get through the doors

[01:10:03] and like well you have to knock and so she forces the ring back into the mouth of the dock

[01:10:09] the door knocker thing by plugging his nose right take a breath and she can jam it back in

[01:10:16] sorry that's a truck driving back I was gonna say somebody flushing

[01:10:24] Audrey's in the bathroom I was gonna say a little preview for the bog of whatever smells

[01:10:29] into her noises it's freshly cleaned in fact okay so Sarah and Ludo pass through one of the doors

[01:10:39] into a dimly lit forest soon after they enter Ludo vanishes falls down a pit or something

[01:10:45] and Sarah's left to go through the forest alone and R.A.V.S. is a truckers guy

[01:10:52] yeah there's a little princess brightest stuff in this isn't that's fair yeah yeah meanwhile a lot

[01:10:58] of that stuff was happening in movies at this time so yeah I made everybody liked pits of despair

[01:11:05] meanwhile hoggle runs into Jareth and which is where I wrote Bowie moose knuckle we've talked

[01:11:10] about that who orders him to give a peach to Sarah and this is this is peak Bowie crotch scene by

[01:11:17] the way yes that's why I wrote that no yeah it's it's about as I think boggle was at his crotch at

[01:11:23] one point yeah well that was in the previous scene that's where we have our our image for the show

[01:11:29] from okay so this is the wicked queen Poison apple right also for the perceptive thing it's

[01:11:40] the pomegranate so when hoggle asks if the peach will harm Sarah Jareth taunts him with and

[01:11:47] ridicules the idea that Sarah could consider a repulsive little scab such as him a friend and in

[01:11:53] parting he tells hoggle that he will make him prince if Sarah should ever kiss him derisively

[01:11:59] adding that hoggle would be made nothing less than prince of the land of stench which is what you

[01:12:05] guys had said just prior to leaving the land of stench he is so tickled by himself

[01:12:14] which brings us to my least favorite scene yeah movie which is the firies I hated this scene

[01:12:24] when I mentioned all the great puppet design and CGI this was the worst green screen

[01:12:29] awful you can see a black outline around Sarah it is so bad not a good song all of those characters are

[01:12:39] extremely irritating what are they doing there yeah they're just to love the scene but yeah like

[01:12:45] the song is a mess it's just a mess I think it they could have cut the whole thing I agree I don't

[01:12:54] love the scene but just for funzys youtube commentary has sort of centered around the idea that they are

[01:13:04] they're sort of like a they present like a psychoanalysis of like well if you just reject all

[01:13:12] responsibility and just have fun and just have this party then you like yeah you're having constant

[01:13:21] fun but you are literally falling apart um whatever I'm not saying I agree there's a pro

[01:13:28] just her head doesn't come off and that she can do the things yeah so then I think I I approached this

[01:13:34] scene with the same sort of like grace that I offer to jar jar binks not as a character because

[01:13:42] the character's terrible but like the idea that like okay I think I understand why jar jar binks

[01:13:50] exists and it's because they could and they were excited about what they could do with it

[01:13:57] and that's it okay yeah so the the weird creatures that can take off their heads after a while she

[01:14:03] gets frustrated and throws all their heads and then runs away yeah and they're following after her how

[01:14:10] can we can't take off your head and then boggle hoggle excuse me drops a rope she comes out to

[01:14:15] safety hoggle hog where hog what hog what how bar t in her gratitude so she climbs up the rope

[01:14:22] that hug gave her in her gratitude she kisses him hmmm which is when I missed the joke I thought

[01:14:27] she he was gonna turn into a prince and I was gonna walk away um i did you have more to say about

[01:14:36] the things. The firies? The firies? I hated them. No, that's it. That's all I wanted to say.

[01:14:43] That was a bad scene and I was angry and I... That was my least favorite scene. And to be fair,

[01:14:49] it's not green screen. No, well, it's an entirely black set which maybe should have been green screen.

[01:14:57] That was the style of the time. Anyway, so immediately after she kisses them, they fall down a

[01:15:03] trapdoor and they are then at the edge of the bog of eternal stench. This was a pretty great set.

[01:15:10] Which features anuses. This is where you're going to need to pull out your YouTube

[01:15:18] meaning because it was a pond of farting buttholes. Yes, that's exactly what it was. That's it.

[01:15:25] That's it. And then Ludo calls some stones so she can walk across safely every time they step

[01:15:31] on a stone. Yeah, I believe... I feel like the bog of eternal stench is sort of a reminder that we

[01:15:41] are watching them up at the thing where it's just like, it's this silly. Just that being the main threat

[01:15:50] in itself is ridiculous but it's also the kind of threat that like a stunted teenage mind would come

[01:15:58] up. Sure, right? Yeah, but if your foot touches it you'll smell forever. Right. Even a little part of

[01:16:04] you so they find their way. They see a bridge and they're stopped from the bridge by Sir Didymus.

[01:16:11] Audrey, were you going to say something? No. Okay. Just that the firies look stupid.

[01:16:20] They were still on the firies. Okay. Are we on a delay? She's not a four minute delay. I think it's just that

[01:16:26] they looked that stupid. Yeah, so Sir Didymus who's a small fox terrier. Okay. He's a knight and his

[01:16:36] duty is to defend the bridge. One of my favorite things is that nobody can cross with a less permission.

[01:16:42] Permission is granted. So they have this whole like fight and yada yada and then finally she's like

[01:16:48] can we have permission? He's like, sure. So the bridge breaks of course and he says,

[01:16:57] oh it's thousands of years old. It holds up just fine. It's absent. And it collapsed.

[01:17:04] Which is when Ludo uses his rock summoning powers which reminded me of Frozen.

[01:17:10] The Frozen trolls. I thought they were going to become trolls. Anyway,

[01:17:13] yeah. And I was confused. Like there's still a small amount of stink water on those rocks.

[01:17:20] Thank you. Yep. I thought the same thing is like, it just came out of the water. A foot's going

[01:17:26] to touch that. There's some bog water on there. But it's okay because your shoes are smell proof

[01:17:32] as long as it's on the bottom of the shoe. One point. Maybe he can tick off his feet.

[01:17:38] The virus can take off their heads. I don't know. Check me. You can watch this.

[01:17:44] This is where Ludo throughout this entire scene is just smell.

[01:17:53] He was cute. I like Ludo. I like Ludo too. I wish they climbed on his back and he jumped around.

[01:17:59] You know? Yeah, a lot faster. Yeah, I wanted her to ride him like a beast of burden.

[01:18:06] Sure. Yeah. Like like an opa but not opa.

[01:18:13] From the last airbender. The TV show, not the movie. Anyway,

[01:18:21] if you haven't seen it, you should watch it. Not too bad. Yeah. But there's also a really delightful clip

[01:18:27] of Prince Charles and Lady Dye before the accident. Meeting Ludo too soon.

[01:18:37] Like the actual figure of Ludo and it's fully animated. They both have this look of like,

[01:18:45] what the hell is this? Rightly so. Was there a person inside that costume or was it a puppet?

[01:18:54] Probably it was a person. Yeah, there were I think so do you know the the Muppet Sweetems?

[01:19:02] Yeah. Yeah. It's like a giant sweet. I'm got it. That's what I thought and you know because

[01:19:06] sweetems is in the in the Muppet Vision 3D. Talk about you soon. Unless you're at Hollywood studios

[01:19:14] and I'm still there. Sometimes not there. Sometimes just off screen. Yeah. Well anyway,

[01:19:20] they call it out. That's right. This is what brings me to my second or tied for least favorite

[01:19:27] section of the film. Jareth and Sarah dancing at the ball. Very awkward. It's very weird.

[01:19:38] Yeah. She's 16. Yeah. So leading up to this, let me get there. So together Sarah,

[01:19:46] Hoggle, Ludo and Sir Didamus on his sheep dog mount, Ambrosius moved forward, entering an

[01:19:52] enchanted forest. Worn out by exhaustion and hunger, Sarah is delighted when Hoggle offers her a peach.

[01:20:00] Jareth ordered him to give her. Remember that. Sarah takes a bite but the peach is poison and she

[01:20:05] falls unconscious while Hoggle racked by guilt in betrayal. He runs away. Dran toward one of Jareth's

[01:20:12] dream crystals. Sarah enters a dream world where she dances with Jareth at a magnificent ball.

[01:20:18] As they dance, Sarah notices a clock in the corner of the room that indicates the 13th hour is

[01:20:22] drawing near. Remembering her brother blah blah blah blah. He's supposed to forget because

[01:20:28] the peach supposed to make her forget. Talk to me about this ballroom scene YouTube.

[01:20:34] Okay. I think the overarching thing is it doesn't stand up well to 2024 eyes in a lot of ways.

[01:20:47] And I agree with that but I'm going to tread very lightly into some areas here.

[01:20:54] First thing, and again this isn't me arguing. This is me presenting arguments.

[01:21:03] It's not the entire scene isn't just, hey now I'm dancing with Jareth at this ball.

[01:21:10] It's, I go to this ball and it's super confusing. Everyone's in costumes.

[01:21:17] Everyone's made up. People are laughing. I don't know what to do. Where's my place?

[01:21:22] It's overwhelming. It's dizzying. And Jareth is kind of in the background for a lot of it.

[01:21:29] Just kind of going like, hey what's going on over here? What's going on?

[01:21:33] And he's like talking to other people but he's kind of like keeping an eye on her.

[01:21:38] For whatever reason you could read a lot of different things until it goes in that.

[01:21:41] This is an early sexual. Yeah. No, it's implied because we are adults watching the thing.

[01:21:48] You know, and at the end of the day I think the most fair thing to say about it is that

[01:21:56] whether the scene should exist or not, right? And this is again a part where

[01:22:01] this is very much a Rorschach test of what it is that you're bringing to it.

[01:22:06] And that's not an accusation but it's sort of like

[01:22:11] he is a figment of her imagination and this is a dream within that figment of imagination.

[01:22:17] He is whatever he represents and it could be a lot of different things and he's like this

[01:22:24] archetype of whatever he needs to be for the viewer. There is definitely like a seduction

[01:22:33] element but that word can mean a lot of different things, right? And the lyrics, hold on.

[01:22:40] The song is very much about recognizing that there's absolutely no hope for whatever this

[01:22:50] relationship is to continue but there is still a feeling of the key line being I'll be there for

[01:23:00] you when the world falls down. But there's also there's a give me a second. I'll grab it.

[01:23:06] It's a very gross sort of song. It's a great song. I mean, I enjoy this one much more than well,

[01:23:12] I mean dance magic is great but I think this is the other song in the movie that I really enjoy.

[01:23:17] I would be very curious. This just came to me then is in the book,

[01:23:23] the story behind every track. Is any of this in that book? No it is. Okay. Okay so here's

[01:23:30] here here, Licks. There's such a sad love deep in your eyes. I'm doing kind of some of this off

[01:23:36] the dome by the way. I kind of pale jewel open and closed within your eyes. I'll place the sky

[01:23:41] within your eyes. So there's that like very heightened romantic imagery. There's such a full

[01:23:47] heart beating so fast and search of new dreams, a love that will last within your heart. I'll

[01:23:52] place the moon within your heart again, heightened romantic, promising language. As the pain sweeps

[01:23:58] through makes no sense for you every thrill his every thrill is gone wasn't too much fun at all but

[01:24:04] I'll be there for you as the world falls down. I like the new. This is David Bowie. To me,

[01:24:13] this is David Bowie writing a Brian Ferry song by the way but anyway.

[01:24:21] I don't fault anyone it is it is it is a squirmy scene to watch. I'm not gonna lie

[01:24:27] but I firmly believe that the intent behind it was innocent.

[01:24:32] Descripping the vault listeners Brian Ferry is the lead of the the the glam rock band Roxy Music

[01:24:41] who did many albums that Dan and choice. Not this Dan.

[01:24:53] So she gets tired of this remembers her brother and breaks through the dream world by smashing

[01:25:00] the edge of it with a chair. She falls landing into a vast junkyard mound of possessions piled

[01:25:08] in her back there's an old lady the junk lady these are really taken characters to. Yeah quite love

[01:25:15] this character. Yes very cool character she brings Sarah to an exact replica of her bedroom and

[01:25:20] the sort of like desolate environment around all the characters it's it's cool it's really cool yeah

[01:25:28] it reminds me of hell from hell razor two in a sense. Didn't see it yeah don't watch it. So

[01:25:35] while Sarah's initially convinced oh is all the dream I'm back home she's there she eventually

[01:25:41] remembers that she has to save Toby and escapes the room as it collapses around her.

[01:25:45] Well as she rejects so and I think that this scene also kind of confirms by negation that

[01:25:53] this story is not a dream because if it was a dream she wouldn't have said they wouldn't

[01:25:57] they wouldn't have had that moment where it's like oh it's all the dream. And the the junk lady

[01:26:05] this is I think the most pointed telling of like what the point of this movie or the story is

[01:26:13] because the junk lady is just like oh no you can just stay here with all your toys and look at this

[01:26:18] and look at this yeah she starts piling junk on top of her just like all the other junk people

[01:26:24] all of her all of her toys oh you love mr. yeah so perhaps the most poignant part of the arc

[01:26:35] this is all junk none of it matters but remember this you know forget about this other thing remember

[01:26:39] all these things that are really important to you but I didn't understand why well she's trying

[01:26:46] to this is I think it's just another obstacle on accepting adulthood yeah yeah it's like look look at

[01:26:55] all these things that can just that can literally weigh you down and like Lancelot the bear who

[01:27:00] she ends up giving to Toby in the end it's her way of moving on yeah it doesn't need all the stuff

[01:27:05] right and I mean really what's important are there relations and stuff yep that 100 percent

[01:27:11] and I also think that in fairness to the previous scene the the item that she is handed that make

[01:27:19] that that she initially that she destroys first is the music box that has the when the world falls

[01:27:27] down music playing and like she's usually rejecting that that it's like it's almost like that first

[01:27:34] scene which again cringey creepy hyam rick and i'm chris handsome all that stuff but like um

[01:27:43] there is that and it goes right up to the edge of that and it's almost like this is the this is the

[01:27:49] like the the absolute rejection of where that could have gone the straw that breaks the camel's back

[01:27:58] yeah yeah in a way yeah so at this point everything all that the sort of official dream of her dream

[01:28:09] collapsed all around her room's gone and then Sarah finds Ludo and Sir Dittamus together they

[01:28:14] approached the goblin city where they're blocked by entering the city by the giant robot name humongous

[01:28:22] yes but hoggle leaps on to humongous like i mentioned before it stops it because it's actually run by a

[01:28:32] little goblin like that men and black reference before yeah and it's all just like just like all

[01:28:38] of the other threats in this world it's kind of hokey barely held together watch out here comes

[01:28:47] the axe and it moves the more you know yeah doesn't cut anything either and then the spikes the

[01:28:56] spikes that come up behind them are clearly like they they wobble or they're not really made out of

[01:29:00] anything yeah i don't know if that's intentional but i think it is i don't think so i think it's fixed

[01:29:08] i think it fits with the the theme of like everything being kind of just dumb and not really a threat

[01:29:16] and like it's all it's all just dream stady yeah it's a it's a it's a kid playing with her toys you know

[01:29:24] yeah that's so hoggle hoggle jumps down stops the troll that's inside the brain of humongous

[01:29:30] and Sarah again forgives hoggle for the peach incident another forgiveness once again for the trail

[01:29:38] oh that's right okay yeah i'll forgive you your friend so now she's got all her

[01:29:45] thoughts he did prove himself by without any motive other than just caring for her and them

[01:29:53] he did taken upon himself to to take on humongous and defeat it yeah and he immediately regretted

[01:30:01] giving her the the peach that's true also he didn't want to give it to her right she gave him an

[01:30:06] opening by saying she was hungry so in a way he was helping her i don't know anyway so with all

[01:30:12] the friends alongside her Sarah enters the goblin city they're quickly attacked by the goblin army

[01:30:18] but Sarah and her friends manage to dodge all attempts to stop them and reach jarrith's castle

[01:30:22] together i love the god of the game those little guys on the on the little dinosaur things where

[01:30:28] it's so delightful so delightful and the like war hammer like blast always bazooka guy with the guns

[01:30:37] in the like hard yeah yeah looks like a little boy and everything's alive the canna balls are alive

[01:30:43] that's right right and when they that ludo shoves a stone in one of the canons and it blows up

[01:30:50] and the canables like i think i hit something always funny yeah the fact that the canna balls were

[01:30:57] alive that was so full of full of creative energy yeah because i can says jim when they reach the

[01:31:07] throne room to the castle Sarah realizes that jarrith must have hidden toby somewhere somewhere else

[01:31:13] oh but you forgot they defeat they defeat the army with rock powers that's right oh yeah

[01:31:20] that's right because ludo summons all the wrong they're all earthbenders which you would understand

[01:31:25] if you watch avatars the last airbender the animated tv show not the movies not the movie

[01:31:30] better what does exist don't be the m night shamelon one yep uh why are you here

[01:31:43] my wife bought it and said and she said i i thought well i know you like him night shamelon and

[01:31:48] i know you wanted to watch this show let's watch this movie and i went i don't think that was the

[01:31:53] spirit of the show let me kill both of those things for you now it wasn't as awful as i thought

[01:32:02] it would be but it was still like i don't think this is as fun as the show was yeah we were talking

[01:32:08] about it missed it avatar the last airbender the tv show is is top 10 the movie by m night shamelon

[01:32:16] is bottom of the it's bad it's robin do you think that would be the most meta if james camman's

[01:32:24] third iteration of avatar is avatar the last airbender that would be quite a bit sweet what color

[01:32:31] would those met de kaya be or whatever they're called isn't it isn't it like the seed bearer

[01:32:37] what's the third one oh yeah that makes sense i don't know when they're going to bring the shaman

[01:32:41] a song in but they're missing out i didn't see the second one should i watch it

[01:32:47] both of the comments listeners leave us a review tell me if i should watch it please leave a review

[01:32:54] and see if she if Audrey should watch the the movie that made two billion dollars somehow yes

[01:33:00] my god somehow some words if she could call if she should call eight five six r-ears in book of

[01:33:06] vacation to Walt Disney World she could fly on the mighty acron through the world of avatar the

[01:33:14] last airbender or like we'd like to go to downtown disney and anaheim go to the pandora store walk

[01:33:19] in and ask where the right is they love it it's their favorite god i have a disney day kids the jewelry store

[01:33:28] all right so just point there was years ago yeah what's that you going to downtown disney and

[01:33:37] asking about pandora can i can i read the mighty acron my ass movie and that's right dan me and

[01:33:48] jason telling you to do stuff in downtown oh my god that was the opening day of downtown disney

[01:33:54] during peak covid which wasn't actually peak covid at the time and you wouldn't tell people it was

[01:33:59] your birthday like i wanted you to know but you would ask innocent retail workers stupid questions

[01:34:08] god damn you what we don't do when we have covid um okay so Sarah at this point realizes that

[01:34:16] charat jareth must have hidden to be somewhere else and she's like her friends like hey guys i got

[01:34:22] to do this alone yes and her reasoning is that's just how it's done it's just how it is yeah that's

[01:34:29] nine for me to take initiative and then she finds herself in the mc esher room which is

[01:34:36] before we practically i'm sorry yeah before we get it in there i want to point out that i really think

[01:34:41] that and again i what i also want to mention i hated this movie up until like three days ago

[01:34:46] oh wow i know that you i know that you hated it i'm just allowing that you'd like it now yeah yeah

[01:34:54] no it totally won't win one me over if i i just needed to look at it the right way you know from a certain

[01:34:59] point of view uh or not take it for granted or whatever all the trips um this is sort of just like when

[01:35:07] charat the end says in all sorts of ways look i've been your villain i what else do you want for me i've

[01:35:13] i've i was menacing i've done all these things because you want me to um where that show it sort of

[01:35:20] points to him being self-aware as a character in a story i think she shows that she's self-aware as

[01:35:30] the protagonist in that story by saying like i guess i have to do this alone because i think

[01:35:36] that's just how it's done right you know so this room and i'm with you 100 percent um this

[01:35:45] this room is amazing it is i don't know how they did it all practically it's just amazing

[01:35:52] it's like the painting you've seen with the staircase of mc escher it's that or if you're

[01:35:56] a great bunch of a Disney nerd it's also at the haunted mansion also a lot of mansion in only

[01:36:01] Walt Disney World which is why it's right and the steps that the on Eric to your point and on

[01:36:06] a mansion steps those are in fact charat are they oh charat yes there but they've seen where

[01:36:17] the escher estate in the in the credits of the movie it's called the escher that that yeah painting

[01:36:23] cool yeah it's really cool and like he's charat is walking off the side and then he ends up upside

[01:36:29] down i mean that's how they wrote it's cameras because it's really cool there's some white

[01:36:34] work and stuff and i don't think anyone will be surprised by this probably my tie for my favorite

[01:36:43] song in the movie it's a good song which was within you hold on i'll pop some lyrics keep talking

[01:36:53] charat is in the room with her and Toby but Sarah mostly ignores him and focuses entirely

[01:36:58] on finding her brother who just randomly goes to different ledges and stuff. Sarah finally reaches

[01:37:03] a high ledge and finds that Toby is sitting above a pit a long way below her so closing her eyes she

[01:37:10] bleeps from the edge to reach him so this again going to the commentary of David Bowie doing like a

[01:37:19] meta commentary in the lyrics of the song because that's what yeah he's he's good like that how you turn

[01:37:27] my world you precious thing you starve and near exhaust me everything i've done have done for you

[01:37:32] i move the stars for no one you've run so long you've run so far your eyes can be so cruel just

[01:37:38] as i can be so cruel oh i do believe in you yes i do live without your sunlight love without your

[01:37:45] heartbeat i can't live within you wow so all of that kind of playing towards his speech about

[01:37:56] he was everything to her and well he can't exist without her needing him to exist okay

[01:38:05] oh yeah i mean yeah if we're going with the dream version of this or just imagine that just

[01:38:11] imagination in general um this feels a little tragic now yeah kind of yeah okay we're getting

[01:38:21] towards the end so Sarah descends slowly she takes the leap of faith she's descends slowly

[01:38:25] lands on a platform that is suspended on midair with pieces of rubble floating around her as a

[01:38:31] rough set okay Jared there's at the song no that's uh that's there there's a tie-in to okay the world

[01:38:40] falling down Jared approaches her from a shadowed alcove and desperately attempts to distract her

[01:38:47] telling her that he did everything she asked that Dan talked about before she did he did everything

[01:38:52] she asked of him saying he will give her everything she wants in exchange for her love fear and obedience

[01:39:01] anything hmm it's an addiction i mean i'm not saying that he is an analogy for addiction

[01:39:08] necessarily or that she is an addict but that's that's basically i mean if you think about someone who

[01:39:13] is stuck in a place or if you've ever been stuck in a place you know um there's that feeling

[01:39:21] of it in order to have that comfort at some level it also needs to consume you okay so this is

[01:39:33] something i didn't quite catch the book that she was reciting from the beginning that's called

[01:39:37] the labyrinth right so Sarah ignores him and recites the speech from the labyrinth which

[01:39:44] she could not quite remember the beginning if you remember and by the way he's noticeably kind

[01:39:49] of kind of upset well he's not upset but also like the there's there's just the slight change in

[01:39:55] the makeup and the costuming like he's fading okay yeah uh Jared holds out a crystal for her to take

[01:40:05] but Sarah disregards it and tells Jared that you have no power over me and then she troubles

[01:40:11] every time we watch this my wife and i go how can she forget that line right it's deliberate

[01:40:19] like there's something about this that is it's more like it's got to be it i mean yeah we'd like

[01:40:26] to make fun of it but there's a portion of her that doesn't want to give up that doesn't want

[01:40:37] to take that power to herself right she's fine giving that power to her addiction like you're saying

[01:40:42] Dan like the like how do you forget you have no power over me like that's the easiest line

[01:40:50] so one of the lines that'll come back that she goes out on her own because that's just how it's

[01:40:55] supposed to go her friends repeat the line should you ever should you ever need this yeah should

[01:41:02] you ever need us right um so uh after she says you have no power over me jerith crumbles before

[01:41:09] Sarah's eyes which by the way i have found uh there exists an alternate version i think it's the

[01:41:15] original version of this scene and i wish there are a better youtube what you can barely make it out

[01:41:23] in in the audio but basically the way it ends is it's all the same until it gets to the point where

[01:41:29] she starts to say the words and she's and and they cut away to the goblins again in the other room

[01:41:37] or the the dark room where they're like oh she's gonna say it she's gonna say it say the line right

[01:41:42] and then so that's kind of fun that's a tie-in but then and this is i think i understand why

[01:41:49] i wish they would have kept this ending but i think i understand why they didn't um when she

[01:41:55] finally says you have no power over me his whole demeanor changes and he just goes no i don't

[01:42:04] that's not in the movie it's not in the movie and he has and there's this this expression that

[01:42:10] he has of like i'm like it's almost like pride but also like you you've bested me you know um huh

[01:42:21] and then he kind of lingers for a little bit and then throws the thing up in the air

[01:42:26] yeah so that the crystal they had turns into a bubble right and it pops and he turns into a barnel

[01:42:32] right so in this one he's he in that version he acknowledges yeah i never have had power over you

[01:42:39] basically and he seems happy for her but he still lingers and he throws the crystal ball up in the

[01:42:45] air and then that and then everything else is the same it's a lovely scene i wish they would have

[01:42:49] kept it like that but i guess you can't be that vague right so so so he turns into an owl she finds

[01:42:58] herself transported back into her entrance hall of the house and the owl is just flies out from

[01:43:07] the window so Sarah runs back upstairs to check on Toby and he finds him to sound asleep

[01:43:14] uh she goes back to her room starts to pack away some of her childless possessions

[01:43:19] when her friends speak to her from the mirror of her vanity they tell her that she can call upon them

[01:43:27] if she ever needs them and Sarah tells them that she will always need them with that her friends

[01:43:35] suddenly appear in her room along with other creatures from the lab rent and they all celebrate Sarah's

[01:43:40] victory yep right right i don't understand it

[01:43:48] so it's all of this like you don't get a big muppet party at the end of the movie

[01:43:52] well it's like it's like it's the it's either a lesson she learns and none of its real or all of

[01:43:57] its real why are they there why are like the rest of it's just ignored they're just having a muppet

[01:44:06] party mom and dad come home like peace out kids fine we're having a i don't get it i mean the

[01:44:11] cause are called for a noise complaint by the neighbors right what's going on i think it smells bad

[01:44:22] hey cop who's been in our master bedroom

[01:44:27] i also struggled with this a little bit until i stopped resisting that this movie is actually delightful

[01:44:40] i think it's that the whole should you ever need us thing is okay yeah you grow up and you learn to

[01:44:49] not be controlled by your childhood stuff and not to be weighed down by it but you still

[01:45:00] sometimes need a little bit of that you know okay it's not so it's not no i can't ever play or

[01:45:07] ever have imagination or ever have like whatever this world represents it's but it's that

[01:45:14] i have taken control over it it has no power over me i have power over it and i can choose to engage

[01:45:21] with it when i want to okay so to finish off uh jareth the owl at the window flies away and in a very

[01:45:30] sort of what i saw is proto batman flies into the moon and then the end

[01:45:37] blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

[01:45:42] legally did did did did did did did did um this movie cost 25 million dollars

[01:45:48] mm-hmm dang and i want i'd like to read this on box office okay

[01:46:56] the mama mia episode which i don't remember recording and he said you should rename the show fan

[01:47:13] dozen times yeah says he likes a second one better oh well if you like mama mia you'll love

[01:47:21] pitch perfect and if you've enjoyed odrie cleaning a microphone you will love

[01:47:28] the episode you might have already listened to goodbye

[01:47:35] okay that was it i know it's kind of a mess i'm sorry just wait till the easter egg uh here's what

[01:47:41] right okay my labyrinth fans go ahead just do not get all in attack on labyrinth fans no they deserve

[01:47:47] to be attacked they're gone now they are they're the they're the bottom of the barrel with both of

[01:47:54] you but i just want you to i just want you to listen to this list of films that this movie unfairly

[01:47:59] opened against okay it opens at number eight the us box office for three point five million dollars

[01:48:06] okay at 1141 theaters which placed it behind wait for it the karate kid part two

[01:48:14] oh back to school legal eagles ruthless people running the scared top gun and ferris

[01:48:22] bjuer's day off okay the last two are actually something i guess ruthless people was was big

[01:48:27] but future two how dare you back to the future two i mean come on sorry

[01:48:32] cry to get back to school you're writing it credit kid two like no that schools are ready to

[01:48:37] you're ready to enter field right it ain't right and uh the screaming guy um so the next weekend

[01:48:44] sam caneson next week in box office film dropped to number thirteen and only earning 1.8 million by

[01:48:49] the end of its run in the u.s it had grossed 12.7 million or half it's budget overall it was big

[01:48:58] it was fairly big overseas the total worldwide gross was 34 million dollars so it made money and

[01:49:04] if you don't take in hollywood math but not there was a possible sequel oh god in january

[01:49:13] 2016 the cult pearlman announced that she had been hired to write the script for the sequel by april

[01:49:19] 2017 uh fiddy feed alvarez signed on as director as well as co writer jay basu henson's daughter

[01:49:26] lisa henson also named his producer back to over 2018 alvarez confirmed that script was complete

[01:49:33] in april 2020 what else could have happened alvarez announced that he had stepped down as director

[01:49:39] in may of 2020 Scott Derrickson known for directing dr strange was announced as director

[01:49:46] man 11 joined him in writing the script for the movie johenson company brian henson

[01:49:52] sorry the jim hums in his company companies brian henson was set as the executive producer and

[01:49:57] confirmed lisa henson has producer what were the 2021 when they start talking about it in 2016

[01:50:04] what day would bow he died in twigs oh so he was not attached

[01:50:14] it was january 2016 to be fair it was before he died no he died in january 2016

[01:50:20] oh sad january ten two days after it's worked oh man oh no

[01:50:26] in february 2021 jennifer connelly revealed that she had conversations about being involved

[01:50:32] in the labyrinth sequel but was unsure about what much evergarner wait what happened to

[01:50:36] shiver god i recast we cast to connelly in october 2023

[01:50:43] derrickson stated he was unsure whether the sequel is going to be made we never got a script

[01:50:48] the way to a place where the studio wanted to make it and it's hard it's a hard hard project to turn

[01:50:53] into something commercially viable because it's so imaginative and surreal that there's no way

[01:50:58] it can be done cheaply and it is a tough movie for a studio to feel competent

[01:51:03] that it had enough commercial value to earn a profit yeah that's fair okay don't think it's

[01:51:10] going to happen but oh but i found all the beers don't think we'll watch in the movie

[01:51:15] uh but the remake uh who's jarris if they do a remake

[01:51:26] Josh gay little feral Josh gay uh all right and i see we're going with this

[01:51:33] what about the guy the singer uh he sings i'm coming back for you babe

[01:51:41] ba ba ba you know that one guy the popular singer guy

[01:51:47] you're going um dan i have your answer i think his name is will

[01:51:52] you're not taking the bait on seeing what

[01:51:57] and jimmy what's what's the answer tom york oh my god wow that's good wow

[01:52:06] tom york that is not actually has he been in his thing much too old i don't think he's a very good actor

[01:52:18] unlike david bowie david bowies a little better come on yeah we don't know we haven't seen

[01:52:25] the old tom in action um he voiced to care he voiced himself on a south park episode a long time ago

[01:52:34] tom york yeah it's an episode where radio head shows up oh i haven't seen that one

[01:52:43] yeah they that's a chili con carne festival it's like really old like this is a 20 20 year old

[01:52:50] episode 15 year old episodes in the animal i think the that's a good answer i was going to go

[01:52:57] with lady gaga could just because that's like oh no it's that's probably more appropriate

[01:53:01] that's cool yeah yeah that's that's better for this day and age i think you right

[01:53:05] shella may sounds like a like ominous sort of thing but you see wonko by the way

[01:53:11] i have not yet no okay um or do we watch this movie still i still don't know how i feel about

[01:53:19] this movie you you love it um but maybe if i enjoy this delightful beverage i have three beers all

[01:53:28] three beers from labyrinth brewing company nice odry were you about to say thoughts about the movie

[01:53:34] that how you feel i'd watch it again i would watch it again it has it has a it does have appeal for

[01:53:41] a lot of reasons like the the the pupp the puppetry is so so impressive um i think when i'm not

[01:53:49] watching it with a critical i have to talk about it i think i'd probably enjoy it a lot more

[01:53:54] yeah i think so yeah if i'm watching a movie like odry you said you were just watching the movie

[01:53:58] didn't take notes yeah it just felt like zoning out yeah i think i might feel a little more

[01:54:04] ironic about it but but just just to be able to absorb the mastery in the puppetry and the practical

[01:54:10] effects it's it's pretty remarkable for 1986 it's remarkable for 2024 uh i agree so there are three

[01:54:18] beers i'd like to try there two runner-ups um all three from labyrinth brewing company the first

[01:54:24] one is turbo love juice inspired by one of our favorite metal gods turbo turbo love juice is

[01:54:32] hopped with citra cascade laurel and econot hops this pineapple orange tropical blast has

[01:54:40] a restrained bitterness and a creamy mouth feel hmm okay second runner-up baby love juice

[01:54:48] perhaps more appropriate okay it's a crushable version of our flagship turbo love juice

[01:54:53] hopped with citra cascade laurel and econot baby love juice that just some sums up the movie

[01:55:01] no other beer sums up the movie than labyrinth brewing companies i'm dead inside

[01:55:11] juicy af hazy double ipa for the times when you're feeling like you have given last

[01:55:17] you have kin give dry hop with cryopop emorillo el dorado and citra to give an explosion of citrus

[01:55:24] pineapple and tropical flavor slash aroma slight sweetness without being heavy or overly filling

[01:55:31] hmm perhaps this may even make you feel less dead inside hmm all three of those i think quite

[01:55:38] appropriate for this film yeah after what are gonna eat i had to think about it just now uh

[01:55:52] again didn't write anything down and i'm sorry i'm not doing a very good job today

[01:55:57] do you want me to go first will you think no no i think i've got it it's a it's a pizza hut but when

[01:56:02] they had this the salad bar uh but inside of the pizza hut yeah is a bunch of like soccer teams

[01:56:10] that just played a soccer tournament and you're there as a teenager or an adult and you

[01:56:14] i want to get up to go get some salad but there's little goblins running around and they're in my

[01:56:20] way makes out of shakies and i'm there shakies yes what who doesn't love pizza so round table

[01:56:28] yeah table salad bar mm-hmm we'll just go with that wow that is a that is a mood right there

[01:56:37] that's speaking of mood stand oh no hey that's perfect um this is uh

[01:56:44] if wrongs and superposes this is cocktail twins with herald bud

[01:56:50] by the way herald bud wonderful part wonderful for one for one musician um

[01:56:55] and i was really torn with this do i play a bowie song what do i do

[01:57:02] and then i thought okay there's so many things about this movie that is like peak

[01:57:08] 80s without being peak 80s like if you think peak 80s in some ways

[01:57:13] I think you think like day glow and drum machines and like lasers and you know a pupe like action pack

[01:57:21] 80s stuff there was also that like more moody ambient 80s that happened and this movie has a lot

[01:57:29] of it and this is called the ghost has no home and it's a slow burner and one of the things that makes

[01:57:38] this super 80s to my ear oh i'm already feeling it yeah uh-huh you have the electric piano which is

[01:57:50] clearly an electric piano use of a saxophone first of all and so much reverb on that saxophone

[01:58:00] that there's probably no dry mix at all a guitar filtered through at least

[01:58:10] infinity number of pedals and then if we make it this far you will hear the fretless bass

[01:58:21] all those things put together a like but good nice this sounds like the end to an episode of something

[01:58:34] or a lot yeah maybe it's the modern and go stranger things

[01:58:40] yeah no this this this this track is uh definitely on heavy rotation it's a banger um

[01:58:50] did Bob appear in this episode of Twin Peaks we don't know

[01:58:52] i feel like i'm taking a sound bath right now just it's that's that they'll do that to you um

[01:59:09] i'm kind of just killing time for when the fretless bass shows up but yeah this is very it is very

[01:59:16] uh remember when music was like this i was actually doing some some research into what changed with

[01:59:23] music and it's it's it was actually around the time of labyrinth around 1987 a lot of people

[01:59:29] you know a lot of people who study this crap agree that like something changed and i kind of

[01:59:35] looked further into it and turns out MTV got really popular it hit in 81 but they started doing

[01:59:44] the vma video music awards in 84 and so it became like a real industry force and at the same time

[01:59:55] live aid happened in 85 so i think when ruined post-punk or whatever this kind of music however

[02:00:06] you you qualify this kind of music i think what ruined it was the uh all of those things coming

[02:00:13] together and people taking themselves too seriously and not taking risks and the stage but oh it's

[02:00:19] here frezz base here i can stop talking here we go

[02:00:24] don't you hide from me for the face come on i was ready

[02:00:33] that rubbery fretless bass wow wow yeah and the the doubling of it this is so 80s like

[02:00:43] it's it's that it's but it's the 80s that we forget about that we like don't

[02:00:49] you know it's not break dancing for us so a lot of us don't consider this to be it's but oh my god

[02:00:54] it's like the risk mix and yeah and yeah a lot of those more ambient fans interstitials with every 80s

[02:01:01] rom com um mana kin

[02:01:05] i think maybe this really lends itself well to our most anticipated segment what drugs are we

[02:01:14] pharmacists the the drug that i associated with this this particular film is ari pepperousel

[02:01:21] disolding the brand name of illify it is an atypical anti-psychotic

[02:01:30] used for frenia um ocd and bipolar disorder so for for the teenager in your life who is so

[02:01:40] dissociated from reality that she may or may not have harmed your infant son

[02:01:48] all she went on an adventure with muppets and a man with a large package very pepperousel

[02:01:57] i love that well done that's great this is a good segment

[02:02:02] yep very well done you might have to call in the next episode

[02:02:11] well dan thank you for labyrinth i thought it was a delight

[02:02:15] i look forward to watching it again i think this time in the theaters mark six that movie tavern

[02:02:21] you'll write george at the whole thing i don't know what it is it's just movie tavern shows like

[02:02:27] they just do that yeah elmo does a lot of stuff like that around here too we don't have movie tavern but

[02:02:31] we yeah elmo draft house does a lot of old just throwback movies because why not you know nobody

[02:02:37] today remembers seeing labyrinth in the theaters because you know nobody did i wasn't even a lot yet

[02:03:47] very braided christmas sexy cat looks he cats labyrinth somewhere in there

[02:03:52] what are we going on for concierge do you think oh yeah oh by the way we have a new concier

[02:11:41] I'm obese.

[02:11:42] Why?

[02:11:43] Healthy edge light software.

[02:11:45] To just make a lot of noise.

[02:11:48] Based on height and weight.

[02:11:50] That's it.

[02:11:51] Yeah, that's what that's bullshit.

[02:12:39] It cannot be inflated.

[02:13:00] Our politicians are owned by the central bank.

[02:13:04] So you can hear a friendship slowly around.

[02:13:08] A friendship is that.

[02:13:13] Oh wait, we got an email from Excel Energy today.

[02:13:16] Increase in wholesale natural gas prices.

[02:13:18] We wanted to let you know about an increase in wholesale natural gas prices

[02:13:22] that may last a few days.

[02:13:24] Forever as cold weather across a majority of the US effects production

[02:13:29] and demand for natural gas prices.

[02:13:31] I feel like I wasn't clear in that last part.

[02:13:33] That this is actually the end of the Easter egg.

[02:13:36] Hope you've enjoyed it.

[02:13:37] Thanks so much.

[02:13:38] Excel Energy purchases natural gas to-

[02:13:40] Don't forget to buy a customer's to generate electricity.

[02:13:42] Excel Energy, they seem to be gouging people left and right

[02:13:45] and that's good for stock price and good for the consumer.

[02:13:51] Okay, we need to actually start this episode.

[02:13:53] So this is actually the end of the Easter egg

[02:13:57] and I'm still gonna keep this music.

[02:14:00] He's gonna be never know.

[02:14:27] My Luther King, baby.

[02:14:29] Just wait.

[02:14:30] Oh, let's keep it going.

[02:14:34] All right, let's do it.

[02:14:37] Who wants to do this?

[02:14:39] Not me.

[02:14:40] This is your episode, Dan.

[02:14:42] You have notes there, right?

[02:14:44] Nine pages.

[02:14:45] Okay, good.

[02:14:47] Nine pages.

[02:14:49] What?

[02:14:51] Mostly synopsis plot detail.

[02:14:54] Is it really good plot detail with my own little spinny spin?

[02:14:57] Yeah.

[02:14:58] Do I have time to run and get some live bomb?

[02:15:03] Okay, I'll be right back.

[02:15:05] How many?

[02:15:06] I'll have an asses.

[02:15:08] All right, Derek.

[02:15:09] I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Eric.

[02:15:11] My name is Derek.

[02:15:12] Okay, yes.

[02:15:13] I was actually gonna mention that but I feel like he's already being asked to do too much around.

[02:15:19] What's going on?

[02:15:21] All he has to do is say from the ashes is something clever.

[02:15:24] Oh, I have to introduce the show.

[02:15:27] You don't have to.

[02:15:28] I just think it'd be fun.

[02:15:31] From the ashes of...

[02:15:34] From the...

[02:15:39] Well, here we go.

[02:15:41] I got it.

[02:15:42] Okay, you ready?

[02:15:43] All right.

[02:15:44] Okay.

[02:15:45] Are we doing this?

[02:15:46] When do I start saying it?

[02:15:50] So there's a very long clip as usual.

[02:15:54] And then the music starts and then we're not even feeling it.

[02:15:59] Okay, here we go.

[02:16:05] But before we start, I just want to say thank you for listening for this long.

[02:16:10] This is actually the end of the Easter egg.

[02:16:12] Give me back.

[02:16:13] Wait, I thought before.
