[00:00:00] Hey guys, this is Ryan jumping in here before we start. This may be the first of many that end up cut up like this but I am going to go ahead and release this in two parts

[00:00:11] I will release it hopefully both on the same day so you don't have to like come back later We won't leave you on a cliffhanger or anything like a sweat But yeah, so we're going to split this up. We ended up going way long on this one

[00:01:54] I purposely did not look about it because I did not want to go with this Because there's a lot you could have done because hey there's egos as big as a planet Like

[00:02:05] Yeah, I was this one is a pretty rife with some with some good intro pieces here and I decided to do a little something different with the very first intro But yeah, that's fun. I'm doing pretty well man. How are you?

[00:02:35] Get to talk about guardians in between the bun is Walt Disney world and then the meat in between Is the podcast There's so much did you did you end up going on guardians while you were in Disney world? Did not get on guardians right?

[00:02:49] We went we packed in a lot of stuff Yeah, kudos to Eric and Mike for being so patient walking around but it was a we weren't there We had basically with my daughter they'd be had basically three days in the park and

[00:03:07] Yeah, so we weren't able to do quite everything. There's still there's obviously still more a lot more meat left Oh, hands, but it was a good time nice nice that's

[00:03:18] We're we're going on in Disney cruise and we're going to have caught before and I told Lisa I was like I'm going to buy an individual lightning lane for myself to go on guardians

[00:03:29] I'm like I can't be an apkot and totally skip it. Yeah, yeah, but we want to like the We want the neutron. I'm trying to think of stuff. We want to invite Well, this will not turn into the Walt Disney world podcast

[00:03:43] But yeah, we don't want a lot of stuff is pretty fun. I'd a good time Yeah, awesome. Yeah, everybody if you if you if you do want to hear more details about our trips

[00:03:51] I think we're going to do some some trip breakdowns. I mean, there's there's a trailer that We'll break down in the monthly bugle this coming month, but other than that, there's not too much

[00:04:02] Marvel news right now and so both of us are going on trips that have that Maybe have a touch of Marvel, but also are just you know, we had some fun. So Listen to the monthly bugle next month for a double trip report

[00:04:18] So I'm going to break down my cruise and David's going to break down his trip to Disney world And we might even try and secure it get us a special guest with Eric

[00:04:30] From all the other shows on this network you jinxing out by saying there's no news and yet We're actually so much news. Yeah, fun for sure for sure Well This month on our main episode, which you are currently listening to we are covering Guardians of the Galaxy

[00:04:54] Volume two In my notes. I forgot to edit that it looks like I forgot to edit that two shows in a row now So you guys are lucky that I have a good brain And it's not just floating in space Oh, hey

[00:05:13] But yeah, David why don't you give us the production details Sure Guardians of the Galaxy Volume two not Captain America winner soldier Release May 5th 2017 six months after Dr. Strange it is the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Volume one and occurs approximately three months after

[00:05:37] So it's set in 2014 Phase three third installment MCU movie number 15 We are almost halfway through run time to our 16 minutes Financials Dilib Bebatter than the first Guardians movie Production budget was 200 million Which is 30 million more than the first one Opening day weekend 147 million Domestic gross 390 million Worldwide gross

[00:06:06] 169 million as compared to 771 million for the first movie In 2017 it is the number seven film behind Spider-Man homecoming And just ahead of Thor Ragnarok other hey, our next two move high now right

[00:06:22] Other Disney properties are Star Wars last Jedi which is number one beating the beast number two and in terms of all time Gross it is number 13 in the MCU Just behind Spider-Man homecoming and ahead of Black Panther Wakanda forever critics liked it

[00:06:39] Audence liked it 85% rotten to minutes for critics 87% for audience Same director James gun he wrote the screenplay It is a film based on the 2008 Marvel character comic by Dan Abnett and Andy landing Pretty much the same cast as before but with the few new faces

[00:06:58] We have Kurt Russell show up as ego palm Clemente Fish is Mantis Chris Sullivan as Taser face There's a lagging me a lot of acts and work in this one folks just just prepare yourself Elizabeth Dickey as Ayisha

[00:07:18] One of the interesting facts is she was cast she is I guess 62 and a half And were heels to make her look six foot seven Wow, I know as opposed to Sevester Sloan is probably a foot shorter, but not kidding. No, sliced alone is Sticar

[00:07:33] Oh guard and Tommy flat again as Tullick We have some cameos which mention real quick Stanley as the watch informant Jeff Goldblum shows up as Grandmaster Seth Green is Howard the duck David Hasselhoff as himself being arranged as Charlie 27 Michelle Jo as a lead a oh guard

[00:07:54] Rob Zombie as he appears in as an unseen ravisher voice We're getting into the deep cut spoke James guns mom and dad are the people that when the Derek Queen is kind of rolling you getting roll number by the by the By the ego

[00:08:14] Yeah, yeah, he James Guns seniors cast as weird old man and his mom's cast as world old man's mistress Which had that was kind of funny and then that's my least iris is the voice of me frame so alternate cast Jimmy urine From mindless self indulgence he was

[00:08:34] The guy who has kind of the Combination flopped over Okay, or she you hear sorry folks We had also casting Nathbenghani was initially offered the role he also auditioned for Dr. Strange but he turned it down

[00:08:54] Saying I like the guardians of the galaxy, but what what I saw was it's successful And now we've got room to make a colorful part of another big name actor. I'd feel like a defendant

[00:09:04] Also control was he this for he auditioned he was auditioned for strange and he was offered the role of ego Okay, okay. Yep, and so also considered were Gary old men who had audition for Hank Pim and Carl Moto Christopher walls also auditioned for Moto

[00:09:24] We have Vigal Mortensen Chris Plummer Max with Cito Alec Baldwin a Pearlman steepling Bruce Willis Robtenero audition I keep a check can't I'm just so big a lot You know Peter you know you can make a A cori

[00:09:44] Milk milk in a court kid. Can you milk a planet Peter? I was trying to think of a little creature or loading is it the orloan orloan Yeah, anyway, I would like to see as I've mentioned before I would like to see some of the audition film of

[00:10:00] Of actors and actress auditioning for roles just because I'd just love to see like Dineros face cripple Crunkle up and he's like wait, what am I reading anyway Michael Rosenbaum was considered for star lord didn't get it but he was cast as Martin X in this movie

[00:10:19] Not that you'd be able to tell but Mantis they just a number of actresses audition for the role of mantis Taser face ret McLaughlin audition for the role David Bowie was supposed to be in the film

[00:10:34] James got in a kemvagi wanted him to play a member of the on-use crew But he was ill any passed away in 2015 so that preventative is maffling Also his song suffrage at city was considered for soundtrack but wasn't used Shouts out to Bowie's blanning

[00:10:51] There was some other characters we're going to be in Wonderman was going to be in Nathan Phillyman was cast He wasn't included there's a scene film where there's a Wonderman poster in the background It was cut out if you well Nikki Gold Sharon Stone was

[00:11:07] Sharon Stone was cat was Had a scene but she was cut out Dark Hawk was a character was going to be in cut out The thing that is interesting from a production perspective other than this being the sequel to Guardians 2 Is the fact that

[00:11:26] Ego was written was envisioned as the big bad in the movie But Marvel didn't have the rights to it So Ego had originally debuted as a foe for Thor But his debut story also involved Galactus which was tied to the fantastic four

[00:11:42] Silver surfer and those rights were owned by Fox So we're pre production right now It's about to start It's almost like you're going to be the checklist like we write to all the characters Do not so Marvel approach 20th century

[00:12:03] Asked for the rights to use Ego since gunhead no other characters in mind So they were kind of stuck They refox agreed that in exchange for Negasonic teenage warhead who would appear deadpool They gave up the rights to Fox

[00:12:20] That's how Ego that's how Ego appears in the movie Just to cut out a bad trade Yeah, no, perfectly fine And Marvel got a Marvel cut the character back as with all the other ones Two other things I just want to touch based on

[00:12:35] When we talk about the making of the film so from And this is sort of like behind scenes but like from a makeup perspective The you know obviously there's a lot that goes into it the first time around It's something like it was just just an awful process

[00:12:52] But the makeup team was able to make some improvements To tell both like makeup and aesthetic So Karen Gillin had to shave off her head in the first film But this time she only had to cut it short

[00:13:03] Dave Batista his prep time went from four hours down to 90 minutes And you know at the end of the day you got to sit in the sauna Like sweat off makeup which is sad and miserable Which is why I'm so very like he's wearing base wearing a shirt

[00:13:18] So they're like we're gonna cut this down about 20 minutes Michael Rucker Make up improved so that like the blue didn't soak into his skin as much Which just sounds miserable

[00:13:32] But as always that I know she still had to use the same makeup that college or just got for it and so unfortunately like just to take one for the team And then from a Senate cinematography perspective

[00:13:44] This is the first Hollywood production to be filmed entirely using a K which is a resolution yeah Resurably four times the pixels of high-deaf So this paved way for other films You know gun took a lot of

[00:14:00] Took note that any got a lot of praise for this film because like the color pat like it's it's a more limited color pat palette So like the color see more vibrant

[00:14:10] I described it as kind of like certain scenes have like a wizard of Oz kind of like Feeling if you will especially as you end it but despite this the film received no kind of more nominations for best center photography

[00:14:22] Which is so wild. I also saw that in doing some research for this movie I saw the planet was at the time the largest visual effect achieved and it took a trillion polygons to make the planet. Oh, wow

[00:14:38] Yeah, I think they went from I've read somewhere they then went from one visual effects company digital visual effects company in the first went to four for this one

[00:14:46] Which just goes to show like how much more is being put in these films and the last thing I want to mention is the soundtrack Tyler baits is the composer and

[00:14:57] Was considered for many awards but was left out because the the soundtrack uses so many unoriginal tracks and so Which is un what a little bit unfair because you watch you if you listen to the there's a couple of times

[00:15:13] I think we even know the score is like it is it's amazing score that he's right. It's unfortunate was passed over Yeah, but also great soundtrack too Yeah, it really is and that's like

[00:15:25] It's almost more skilled to take a soundtrack of popular music and match it with this really great score I think that actually in some ways takes more skill than just You know a class battle it or a

[00:15:42] John Williams or somebody like that who just puts out this really great score that you know gives you the emotions of the movie and everything But you're not contending with Works that are you know in some places 30 40 years old

[00:15:55] They have to try and match up to and match feeling with and that's what it's like yeah, and there was support there's a rumor I don't remember is quite the right word but like it's been said that the the soundtrack is done

[00:16:06] And then they shoot the film to the soundtrack. I don't know if I entirely believe that But it's still a testimony like how important the music is for these movies

[00:16:17] Absolutely, I think that's one thing I will say for like James gun and we saw a little bit in Guardians 1 But I think in this movie more than anything

[00:16:26] The intentionality with which he makes his movies like everything is intentional every plot point, every piece of dialogue, every piece of music Everything is very intentional and is meant to be there and is like Very very well done. Yeah, yeah, no great did on rewatch

[00:16:47] I will say that the music The score of the soundtrack everything really jumps out you're just you're I'm reminded again of like why it was so Such a successful almost character in the movie Absolutely absolutely Well David

[00:17:06] I'm gonna I'm gonna make you talk a little bit more what was your first what do you remember? I guess we're kind of we've kind of gotten away from what was your first viewing of these because that you know the specific night that you saw

[00:17:21] It doesn't matter quite as much as what do you remember like going into this the very first time what were you feeling where you excited what were you kind of thinking So for the first one I had not I didn't have like huge expectations

[00:17:35] Cause I don't really read Guardians and I remember at the time I was going to kind of wear a movie with the tree and the triangle face monkey

[00:17:43] But second one there's definitely the oh, where are we gonna go with this right like this is I really enjoyed the first one And if you're like James guns gonna deliver something that's gonna be pretty good

[00:17:56] So it's pretty excited for it actually how about you I would say the same I was definitely really excited I'm actually pretty sure at this point I transitioned up to going to Shayan with the comic book shop

[00:18:10] So I know we said we weren't talking about specific viewings, but Special shots out because somewhere along the line and I think it was about here. I moved up right I started going up to Shayan with the store that is now Olympic Olympic Olympic games

[00:18:29] But yeah, I remember being excited I remember really wondering if they were going to tie into the greater MCU Because if you remember at the time This is pre infinity war and pre

[00:18:46] I mean this is even pre-ragner rock right so realistically we have like this guardian story kind of just floating off doing its own thing with the marble You know tag on the front and all that good stuff but like Really it doesn't

[00:19:07] Do a whole lot with the mainline MCU And it still won't right it'll it'll it interacts a little bit in there. There are some intentional I think like grapple points for

[00:19:22] Thor and for Thor Ragnarok, obviously we mentioned that the Grandmaster makes a cameo in the credits and so that that kind of ties it over to Thor Ragnarok But realistically this was like a whole separate story happening

[00:19:42] We had the civil war, you know, Spider-Man stuff going on in terrestrial MCU I guess I'll call it and then we have galactic MCU And I kind of remember having conversations about that about how they're kind of our two MCU's realistic at the time Interesting

[00:20:04] And so so I was excited. I liked the first one. I was excited. I was wondering if they were going to bring the soundtrack forward like if they were going to progress the timeline of the soundtrack, you know

[00:20:17] Make it a little bit more modern they didn't ultimately it's still about this the songs are from about the same time period as the first awesome mix

[00:20:28] Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll secure it to like like you're saying how they're going to progress the story will it intersect with the MCU or not right what we will be seeing like an infinity stone show up

[00:20:40] What are they going to do with group because remember, grew to the ground grew died in the last film and this is now it's basically it's fun in the movie Yeah

[00:20:51] Yeah, so so spirits were high I was really I was excited for it. I this was when this was when Marvel was putting out like you mentioned there were there were three movies in the year and so Marvel was putting out a ton of stuff and this one was exciting

[00:21:09] What were you thinking David coming back this last month? To come revisit this one what was kind of going through your head. So we and we've come off Guardians volume three

[00:21:27] And after that film, you know where you know just it's just a few months later and then we're like reviewing Guardians one and I I after watching Guardians one I just wanted to like stream them all just to see

[00:21:39] Kind of how it fits is like an overall arc kind of you know, you can't help but think about how you rank these films and you know mentally in my mind I had a preconception of how I have them ranked which we'll get into a little bit later on

[00:21:54] And I just wanted to see if it was kind of still just file learn not In what kind of get into it. I don't want to jump at too much but I was I was curious to see like I knew it was good

[00:22:06] I knew there was nothing going to be problematic in watching it the second time and it's not like you know, you know, you know, you know,

[00:22:13] Drax and blackface or something like that, but I just wanted to see like how resonated how it fit and like I felt like a little bit more like how I and how I perceived it. You

[00:22:25] Yeah, I was I think I've been on record saying like this is kind of the low point in the stretch that we have

[00:22:33] And so like I honestly wanted to be wrong if I'm being very very blatantly honest. I I wanted to be wrong. I wanted to feel like this you know,

[00:22:46] I was looking forward to this and I kind of remember seeing it in theaters and I liked it, but like I didn't love it necessarily

[00:22:58] And I couldn't remember why couldn't tell you why I still can't tell you why I didn't love it. I was trying to as we really watched it piece that together and we'll talk about that probably more and when we get to the ranking part

[00:23:12] I'll talk a little bit more about you know what what my impression was after watching it for another time here, but Yeah, I was I was you know, I will say that this one

[00:23:28] Going into watching it this month I kind of felt like this is this is one ones we got to kind of slog through to get to Spider-Man, Ragnarok, Black Panther Infinity War run that we're about to do over the next four months

[00:23:45] That you know is is really really good so I This was almost one that I I was doing out of a sense of obligation to do the complete MCU for the show Spoiler alert for the rankings I was completely wrong. This was a really good movie, but

[00:24:08] Yeah, I was I was completely wrong to go in with that like I guess we got to do this one kind of mindset I mean, yeah, it's not like the incredible Hulk right

[00:24:20] It's it I get we're saying and I think when we'll talk let's let's let's get to that point because I like you This is not one that I I rewatch all the time and it's one that I had memories of of it being of a certain Like

[00:24:37] Stature look for lack of a better word and I'll rewatch I liked it more than I think the night given a credit for yeah, for sure for sure Well, let's go ahead. Let's get into the breakdown David I will hand it over to you to kick us off

[00:24:55] All right we begin not in Cleveland, but in technically it's Georgia, but we're gonna call it Missouri Earth 1980 we see a De-aged Kurt Russell with some great Like fair of faucet majors hair driving classic muscle car through Missouri countryside with Star Wars mother Meredith Quill

[00:25:18] as she sings along to the classic 1972 song Brandy your fine girl by looking glass Brandy it's better than Laura Haddock as she can't sign I watched it a couple times like I know she's British and so she's trying to keep the accent, but man

[00:25:37] Yeah, it's rough. It's this is actually the first time I remember catching that she was actually singing along Automally I like I thought it was just like in audible like Maldinger something I thought for some reason in my mind I thought that they're both singing

[00:25:51] And I just kept looking and looking and then I realized probably That that would just take to see GI for him. He's just kind of smiling and looking kind of Very de-aged so his character take he and Meredith go into a forest pond Dairy Queen

[00:26:07] Where he shows her an alien plant that had he had planted the ground which had taken roots He tells her it will eventually expand all across the galaxy Not surprisingly she doesn't understand what's going on, but Can't believe she fell in love with quote a space man

[00:26:25] So one one little one little thing here that car is a 1970 Mustang to King cobert T top And I guess James gun keep souvenirs from every film and that's the souvenir kept So nice. Yeah, it's not like you know, it's not like hey

[00:26:44] There's this cool belt or something like I'm keeping this car right? Well, and also fun little fact the body for young Kurt Russell This is you wouldn't know who he is because you don't see his face He was so it's The actor is Aaron Schwartz who played

[00:27:07] Gary or Jerry in heavy weights and he was also Dave Carp in the mighty ducks So 90s kids who watched heavy weights at mighty ducks Yeah, the the young ego young Kurt Russell is

[00:27:24] Definitely somebody you might recognize yeah, yeah, that's good. The yeah, I think they they've filmed a couple different times Sometimes using like Kurt Russell just for his face, then the younger person

[00:27:35] I'm always amazed when they do the D aging like they've done it now a few times rock rock down junior Hey, Kim character like at this time you saw carry carry fisher over on the Star Wars side That's not good there anyway

[00:27:52] It's now 34 years later 2014 and we see Star Lord Star Lord man Gamora tracks rocket and a tiny little group They are we see them at the beginning they're protecting a cache of powerful and valuable batteries from in on behalf of the sovereign from some interdimensional monster

[00:28:17] Then we cue the few the fun CGI opening scene where dance great We're group dances to Mr. Blue sky by ELO as the guardians are just you know getting their tails kicked in the background

[00:28:30] But this is fun scene kind of going around and people flying around the background They're unable to pierce the thick skin of the Alien when drags gets a brilliant idea like I'm just gonna do it cut it from the inside

[00:28:47] I saw this happen in Avengers when Tony Stark did it with the chitari. I'm gonna do it too so he's just inside and he's like I described his actions like a cat that wants to get into the room. It's just quite clung at the door

[00:29:00] It's my cat and that's an herbidomy off so Gamora they exploits and like a hole on the neck kind of like emperors egg in the astro blast or ride and then splits the monster from throat to naval and

[00:29:20] Spills out and drags comes out and you just do you think he single-handedly won? Which is this is fun scene. Yeah, so good it's so good and I I loved here there Peter Quilstell loves his old school like technology. He's like retrofitted a radar into a

[00:29:37] old metal football game and it's so good I Very small part we wondered if he had actually done that or for he was like hey, I just got to finish up this first quarter before we go It's the floor I

[00:29:51] Think honestly that's my preferred read of it. That's your that's your head kid Yeah, yeah So after the kill the monsters the Guardians meet with Aisha she is the high priestess for the sovereign

[00:30:04] And she expel you know, which is this which as she explains this is race of genetically engineered clones She says Every citizen is born exactly as designed by the community impeccable and physically and mentally both mentally and physically We controlled the DNA of our progeny

[00:30:21] Germany them in birthing pods Which we will see later on Peter says well I guess had to make people the old fashion way I use to say well perhaps someday you can give me history lesson in the archivic ways if you of your ancestors for academic purposes

[00:30:35] And then Peter Like my friend of like good more like I would be honored in the name of research. Well, I'm sure that that could be pretty He looks a good more eyes pretty repulsive for not into that type of cat

[00:30:52] Which is so funny because in the first book we understand that the Milano looks like a Jackson Pollock film from From the indoors anyway so I come more cuts them off and ask for what they were promised and She is rewarded the Guardians are awarded with Nebula

[00:31:12] I know be like it also been captured trying to steal the same batteries The harbularity battery battery battery battery battery batteries She I should for some reason just advance the plot asks Quill about his heritage and she tells them That he is has an unorthodox genealogy

[00:31:29] Which is you know hybrid with a reckless lineage and Rockets says, you know they told me you people were conceded douche bags But that isn't true at all and the winks of Peter with the wrong eyes like because I quote ocean

[00:31:43] Am I using the wrong guy again? I'm so sorry. That was meant to be behind your back I just so you know really on this is gonna be a very humorous film Absolutely

[00:31:53] So Nebula had been previously captured by the sovereign trying to steal the batteries and surrender to the Guardians so they could trade her for bounty on sandar We see we then cut to a the obligatory shirtless scene of Chris Pratt

[00:32:08] Before he apologized to Gamor for what she thought might be flirting Gamora basically says she doesn't care and Dracce gives Peter a lifeless in a women You just need to find a woman who's pathetic like you

[00:32:24] That's at some people dance some people don't right. Yeah, I do I do like so The dancing thing kind of brings back because during the fight groups dancing around and then when Dracce sees him he stops and that's like a little bit of a call back to

[00:32:42] Twig grew in the after credits of the first one stopping Whenever Dracce saw him but now it kind of actually gives more importance to Dracce not liking dancing Yeah, that's a great call out. I frankly forgot that yeah, that's one of the things that's interested very funny

[00:32:57] As you know, Dracce in the opening scene Dracce lands on ground Seas group was dancing he stands still Then Dracce moves then he goes back to dancing Also the shirt that Peter Quill pulls on here One has been used in merch everywhere the logo from that but too

[00:33:14] If you use the keyboard from the first movie that we get a shot of It's the same language and it translates to gear shift, which is a candy which grew actually finds later in this movie And then the Like subtitle says a teniic

[00:33:32] Galaxy adventure and care and teniic is a graphic designer who worked on the wardrobe for this movie So nice little Easter egg. She probably designed it herself and put it in there or something God bless the internet for finding that a little bit of information like

[00:33:48] I've seen this film now three times in a row Nary never even thought to me to put it through some sort of like You know foreign language keyboard, but yeah I was always curious about it because it looks like it says hey baby

[00:34:00] Like I've always I've always kind of thought to myself It looks like it says hey baby on it and I'm like oh, that's the hey baby logo And then I was like oh, I wonder if the internet stick decoded it sure have

[00:34:12] Yeah, which is I guess we should just run everything through reddit because you know Somebody somebody's watching this at like one tenth speed and it's noticing everything so yeah So unfortunately the job is

[00:34:24] Batched when the sovereign discovered that rocket has taken some of the batteries from self and They're attacked by the sovereign drone fleet Rocket and Peter argue about who's the best pilot and they keep taking control from each other of the ship, which is a great And then

[00:34:40] Dracks puts on a space you ex-tspono shoot down what you thought was the final drone But it wasn't that must that must sit off the skin a little bit so it doesn't bug its nipples Extremely sensitive nipples

[00:34:54] They are but then they're greeted by another wave of sovereign drones and things like dire until a mysterious One inch man as he is described by Dracks destroys the drones which enables them on to make a warp jump however the ship is damaged

[00:35:09] And so with Dracks still attach via cable behind the ship they crash land on a forest plant name bear hurt As the team beckors a mysterious ship lands near them any person emerges In introduces himself as ego Peter's long lost father

[00:35:26] Yeah, I will say I love the aesthetic of the sovereigns like Pilot room. It's like a big arcade and they have the like arcade he sounds and even down to like the last ship that's like Chasing the Milano

[00:35:42] Everybody's like crowded around him like they're crowded around in our cave cabinet. It's it's pretty fun. Yeah, I also like personal use sock Kirchner yeah, whatever anyone so good So we cut to contractia and We see the ravengers are partying on a snow planet

[00:36:04] Which looks to be some sort of like red light District area a westworld kind of thing going on. Kind of yeah, and you know, we see a very familiar M.C. You face chatting in a bar

[00:36:17] Cut to Howard the duck saying quote you're out of luck and to you've gone duck So Howard the duck Literally trying to get his bequeat We made it in We made it in so we see a shirtless y'all do having gotten his bequeat

[00:36:37] Getting dressed after visiting a what looks to be I'm guessing it's like a cyborg says our robot sex worker Y'all do exit the building to join his crew and encounters Starkar O'Gord who is Ravinger Starkar walks away and Y'all do tell something to go to hell

[00:36:55] Starkar says that Y'all do broke the code by trafficking in kids Which we will see that Ron Y'all do said he didn't know what he was going on but Starkar cuts them off and says Y'all didn't want it out because it made him rich and

[00:37:06] Then they have this they have this kind of actually very kind of touching scene on rewatt Y'all do says I demand to see the table I wear these flames same as you

[00:37:16] Starkar says you may dress like us, but you'll never hear the horns of freedom when you die y'all do And the colors of O'Gorg are will never flash over your grave if you think I take pleasure in it

[00:37:27] Exiling you your ball you broke all of your heart all of our hearts So Very touching like You know even though it's like high bit of conflict Yeah, yeah, y'all do who you could tell in the last movies is definitely Leading by like intimidation and fear

[00:37:45] Now is men are seeing some weakness and they squabble over the his leadership Before I use your rives via this ridiculous Market takes like

[00:37:56] Two steps they roll it out two steps rolls it out gets like rolls it out and she tells them that she has a proposition for So we cut back to the guardians and ego who work out the round a campfire of some sort

[00:38:12] Ego tells Peter that he hard y'all do to pick Peter up when his mom passed away but the y'all do kept cool for reasons I know to ego Peter says he was kept because he was skinny which made Stephen easier

[00:38:23] And ego says he's been searching for Peter the entire time however tracks is you know not surprisingly a little bit confused Peter says Because he Peter says wait you're trying to tell me that this whole time you thought y'all do is my actual blood relative

[00:38:39] And drugs like you look exactly alike You know rockets like one's blue He was like no, he was not my father. He was a guy who abducted me and then kick the crap out of me

[00:38:47] So I could learn how to fight kept me in tear by threatening the e-mail He goes his eat you Peter's like yeah He goes as a son of a bitch and then He invites them all including quote the triangle faced monkey there and Quotes

[00:39:02] To his whole planet so you can explain Peter's very special heritage and hopes to be the quote the father I always wanted to be And then He's like hey man, I gotta take a whiz and then Weird and then he whistles brandy while he's doing yeah

[00:39:20] And then Peter tells more that I'm not buying it and they go for walk So Mantis introduces herself to drags and awkwardly smiles which leads to her to explain that she was raised alone on egos planet

[00:39:33] So she doesn't understand social interaction because spoiler there's not a lot of People on egos planet well that are live Medis asks if she can pet his puppy Rocket which causes rocket snap at her and they both awkwardly laugh about the practical joke

[00:39:50] So the you know early on Peter is really unsure about you going in his motives doesn't trust it So he's you know, he's he's just showing up just now and wants to be his dad

[00:40:00] You know, Gamora is also suspicious and she reminds him of Zardoo hassle frow and the magic boat and the story about Peter used to keep a photo of Zardoo I'm sorry David hassle hoff Man is while it pretended to be his father

[00:40:16] Gamora knows that Peter's long for this his his dad and that you know has a ton of questions and so she Encourage them to go with ego And if he turns out to be evil well, let's kill him Peter finally agrees

[00:40:28] Bring some more in tracks while rocket and groups stay behind to watch nebula and repair the ship And scene Yeah When I I liked this introduction

[00:40:41] I did want to take a quick minute because we kind of get our two biggest introductions like the biggest characters in this movie that Our sort of new so I wanted to just

[00:40:52] Break in with a little bit of comics. I promise it won't be the 30-minute diet drive. I did last show But first off we've got ego He was introduced in 4132 In 1966 he is not a celestial in the comics

[00:41:10] Rather he is a essentially the like a brain that is just floating out in space And is a scientist the brain of a scientist whose planet was destroyed by the stranger and Then you know he becomes his own planet and he is ego the living planet. He is

[00:41:35] He's kind of like like you mentioned before a mostly associated with Thor and The fantastic for yeah, and this I would point it on the on the ego front This movie is released in 2017 which is the 100th anniversary of Jack Kirby birth

[00:41:55] And the guardian eating create the gardens but he created group any creative ego of living planet This one was characters he created Yep, and for those wondering who Peter Quill's dad in the comic books is his dad is the king of Spartacs Which is Jason or just son

[00:42:18] Not to be confused with the king of the years up Jason Papa Jason But yeah so a little bit of a a little bit of a retcon here To to change up the movie and I think I mean it ultimately works well and it's pretty fun

[00:42:37] It is a little bit weird that he's a celestial when we have established at this point in the MCU We've established that the celestial are these big robot look-in dudes Who wield infinity stones to wipe out whole planets. We saw that in guardians one

[00:42:52] So a little bit weird that um Though we would consider ego celestial, but you know I think it gives him the God with a small g mindset yep And then Mantis who is introduced here as kind of Ego's a system She was introduced in Avengers 112

[00:43:20] Written by Steve Engelhart and drawn by Don Heck in 1973 She was born to a Mutant on Earth and then trained and experimented on by a creeset Who found her in Vietnam So her her dad Her mom and dad were killed in Vietnam and this creesect adopted her and

[00:43:50] wanted her to be like a celestial Madonna right be a celestial Kind of mother figure and so they really enhanced her telepathy and and really worked with her But um she never really ended up kind of getting to that part of the prophecy where she was that but

[00:44:11] Yeah, definitely not Uh her heritage has changed let's put it that way we we don't know yet in the MCU what her heritage is and I think it's a big enough spoiler that I don't want to

[00:44:23] Give it away for anybody who maybe hasn't caught up on the MCU but Her heritage does change in the MCU. Yeah, yeah one of the um you mentioned Steve Engelhart He who wrote Mantis originally did not like

[00:44:43] How she was portrayed in the film because it's based like you said it's based on the 2008 Abnan and landing run and not based upon the original one and so Um, like you said it wasn't her original incarnation is this like celestial Madonna

[00:44:58] And he says quote well I was not happy with Mantis portrayal the characters nothing to do with Mantis I he's you know goes on he likes the film overall but like

[00:45:08] It's just he's like that's just not Mantis. I just don't like it like I like the character but it's as wrong Yeah, that's fair that's fair. I'm curious how many How many folks from Marvel harbor that thought you know after

[00:45:25] Looking at it and I know there's been some news that's come out lately Thank you sent it to me about Fyghee has been putting his thumb on on comic writers a little bit more

[00:45:38] And so it's it's interesting. I would be curious you know obviously there's NDAs that cover some of this and that's sort of thing but How many writers out there are not thrilled with where their characters went in the MC?

[00:45:51] Yeah, you also have to and yeah, yeah, it can be it could be writers They can be the artists if you will like how they completely change story lines for you know it's kind of a piece of movies if you will

[00:46:03] Yeah, I mean he I imagine there's quite there more than just a couple he was just one of the ones who's vocal about it Right yeah, for sure For sure so we've we've seen everybody introduced where at the campfire and

[00:46:17] We decided that we're gonna split ways right rocket and group are staying behind and Gamora tracks and Peter are going with ego Rocket bids Peter of fun farewell he says I hope daddy isn't as big of a dick as you

[00:46:35] Orphan boy leapwood max song the chain plays as the three of them Leave on ego ship mantis helps ego sleep while Peter stairs in at the magazine photo of David Hasselhoff

[00:46:49] Which is kept for years Peter asks mantis why she has antenna because he has a bet with tracks Is it to avoid being decapitated by a low doorway or literally any other reason I love how confident DRAX is like the decapitation. He's so confident

[00:47:12] He's just like he blurt out like we have a wage or he's like that's supposed to say that it's like fine Decapitation or any other reason um She explains that that she has empathetic and empathic ability

[00:47:29] Meaning that anybody that she touches she can feel their feelings and emotions She asks to touch Peter's hand and she says you feel love Peter yeah, I guess I feel a general unselfish love for just about everybody no Romantic Sexual love he Romantic

[00:47:52] Mantis po points towards Gamora for her and Everybody is just laughing right Peter denies it but Drax is cracking up Says she just told her your deepest darkest secret She touches Drax chest and stairs and shares the feeling of a amusement kind of laughs along with it

[00:48:19] She then Approaches so mantis then approaches Gamora And Goes to touch her and Gamora says touch me and the only thing you're going to feel is a broken jaw Yikes

[00:48:38] Bump up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up

[00:48:42] Mantis explains that her powers also allow her to alter emotions but she mostly uses it to Help it ego sleep because he lays awake thinking about his progeny What a sweet man the game that is kid Happy early father staying right

[00:49:01] Come back to the planet. We see the ravagers arriving at night The ravagers numbers are quickly thinned as a result of a series of booby traps Layed by McCullee Colkan. I mean rocket that's so good

[00:49:18] It's so good it's so home alone right it is it really really is we see Trank willizer darts anti-gravity devices that like throw them up over the tree tops Electricution discs that he jumps around all mimply pimply and puts them on their heads

[00:49:35] He also is singing through a walkie talkie at one point to like draw them into the ship It's it's pretty great So yeah even though he's without you know his his usual weaponry he still has a lot of these gadgets And then ultimately after he's

[00:49:55] gotten rid of everybody He decides he's gonna you know go hand-to-hand or I guess Cloth a face if you will with a couple of ravagers he completely works them Just before yon do zero

[00:50:13] Meets him face to face. Yeah, yeah, I love I love the scene so much the Electrocute like the people are gonna like to get in the skulls or like like barv when he gets electrocuted the basement It's great. Yeah, yeah

[00:50:28] That's something I feel like that something James good knows how to do really well is like Referential in the stalshow without like if becoming super heavy and becoming the whole point of the movie right just like

[00:50:40] Hey, I get the essence of these things that you love and I'm gonna put them here. Yep. Yeah, totally Yon do explains that I use uh hired him and his team to hunt down the guardians in exchange for a huge bounty Rocker rocket offers them the harbulari batteries

[00:50:58] So long as he doesn't hurt group however when yon do Says he never intended to actually hand-peter to the sovereign for the huge bounty a mutiny breaks out by an underling named Taser face by the way for Stranger things fans like myself

[00:51:23] If you were watching this and you're like that taser face guy kind of looks familiar under all those prosthetics He's Benny from the uh from the burger stand. He's Benny from Benny's burgers in Stranger things okay

[00:51:37] But we ought to do says lucky for you my word don't mean squat otherwise I'd actually hand you over taser face otherwise you'd what yon do We'll take them batteries

[00:51:51] There worth what a quarter mill on the open market taser face that precious offer does a million a quarter is only one third of that And then another ravager who's played by Steve A. G. goes No a quarter's 25 After this

[00:52:13] Rousing discretion about math yon do explains that they can't turn over the guardians otherwise the nover core would be after them Cragling calls out yon do for protecting quill and putting him above the rest of the ravagers and and a mutiny is about to break out

[00:52:31] Just then we see nebula who tricked group into freeing her shoot yon do's cranial frit fin and then stun rocket with another blast Without his cranial fin the yon do cannot use his arrow and is captured along with rocket and group And

[00:52:50] This scene is really great because leading up to this Nebula has been asking for some some fruit some Rute vegetables that are on the the Milano and they keep telling her they're not Right yet it takes a big ol bite of it right after she disables both

[00:53:08] Both yon do and rocket and it's just like It's not right So it's good yeah the movie has a lot of obviously a lot of over the top not over the top a lot of like obvious comedy But I was like a funnel like a little minor piece

[00:53:27] Yeah, no, it's though question I feel so the cranial fin it just attaches like the fact that we shot off doesn't That didn't hurt or or damage like yon Do's head or brain it just like they shot the thing that was wearing on top of the set right?

[00:53:42] Yeah, I wouldn't imagine a damage it probably hurt I mean the fact that it made him pass out tells me that like It's probably wired into his brain in some way Which there's a lot of like sci-fi where when a neural component gets damaged you end up like

[00:54:03] You see the the character take Some pain and it's usually because like the shock from that right shocks are brain. I guess I could see that where you are connect you are Have a neurological connection to the electronic device which helps to to

[00:54:21] You know aim and steer and propel the arrow I guess it makes sense that once that that connection was destroyed It would cause you to like have some sort of I'm gonna make sense you have to safely eject it just like your USB drives

[00:54:34] Timely this been a Ryan's IT tech corner I fit it in even in a movie where there's no no earthly connection could God So from here ego takes Peter Gamora Drax and Mantis to his homeworld Coincidentally enough it's labeled egos planet

[00:55:08] The trio are captivated by the scenery as they float on a transport that strangely looks like a Egg or when it's flying through space like a sperm And they get to egos play palace

[00:55:25] Basically think of like wizard of Oz they actually like worked with a fractal artist to make Kind of the it looks very fractal it looks very like organically grown And not chaotic not like it's this really cool mix actually

[00:55:44] real quick like side note that this planet looks really cool and it is a very stunning Like visual effect it is organic well using in organic looking materials metals clockworks that's sort of thing

[00:56:03] And so it actually looks really great and and like you mentioned earlier that 8k makes the college pop This is a pretty big standout visual effect even even today. I think yeah I had to watch it a few times to really to really kind of process

[00:56:19] Everything right you were looking I'm looking at the foreground you look at the background you've got the The you know the music the George Harrison music like play over the top of it if you will and it's not like

[00:56:31] You can see the the amusement on their faces as they pop little bubbles as it goes long Yeah, it's it's Very well done you can imagine the amount of like

[00:56:42] Time and design that it took to create this it has a very I will say it's like when you think of like Marvel planets like this is one that I can immediately look at I can immediately recognize just for it's

[00:56:56] Oh, it's visual um I wanted to put one real quick on while we're talking about song so George Harrison's song my sweet love is playing and It seems like this appropriate song choice a song praise and God is a theme for the for physical god But

[00:57:12] What it didn't realize and then then found out research that he was sued successfully for Playjurism due to the song similarity to the chiffons. He's so fine and then when you hear that you can't unhear it And then it kind of there's this you know you wonder why

[00:57:30] James God who's very Intentional about the music that gets into the movie why he would choose this song and you wonder if it's like some sort of like

[00:57:41] The ego's not kind of quite what he seems or he seems like this benign person but really something there's a story behind it Which I thought was really interesting. I'll rewatch Huh, I didn't I did not stumble across that but that is really interesting and that's

[00:57:55] Man we could do we we could do like a whole extra episode just about the the music of this movie in the way that it ties into things Because the chain is used repeatedly as well. Hopefully would max the chain and there's a lot of like

[00:58:10] Breaking the chain of your family right he Peter all to mentally has to break the chain with his Family Gamora broke the chain with her dad, etc. etc And so yeah, I think I think the music of this movie is

[00:58:29] So good and and where in the first movie that there was some music that like Tied right we talked a little bit about like moonage space dream and and how that was kind of like

[00:58:43] Ment to kind of evoke this whimsy of of nowhere and that's sort of thing in this movie the The music almost makes more of a story. It's almost more of a storytelling

[00:58:58] I would agree with that and actually james gun said he this is I think he said this is his favorite soundtrack The prefers it to one. I think for that very reason because it is so Like tied

[00:59:10] To the story right the music is yeah music is is is a I think I think of as a character It's helping to tell the story We'll have to pin this for when we get to Guardians three and like three years but I Think we should

[00:59:26] Pick our favorite Soundtrack or our favorite song from the soundtrack. Okay, I'm in I'm down So you go Explains that one his plan is only about the size of Earth's moon But he also explains that he is a celestial aka small gee god

[00:59:46] As they walk into his palace everyone is amazed by the grandiose architecture and design Ego tries to explain his background He doesn't remember where he came from just that he recalls flickering and being a drift in the cosmos utterly alone

[01:00:01] Over millions of years he learned to control molecules around him and grew smarter and stronger Ego talks about How he learned to manipulate the matter around his consciousness and build Layer by layer to create the very planet that they walk on now so he's a 3D printer

[01:00:24] Sorta sorta yeah, he definitely That's actually really good point now that I think about like how He showed himself growing it kind of is like 3D printing and The other the other interesting thing here is this is actually a

[01:00:41] There's actually a legitimate theory and I'm dropping the name now In metaphysics that Essentially because of the and this I don't want to go on too much for rabbit hole I know how we like to get on rabbit holes about really weird theories and Multiverse isn't stuff

[01:00:57] But there is a metaphysical theory that We are just as likely to be actual human beings as we kind of all perceive ourselves to be As we are to be Brains floating out in space that are essentially hallucinating our entire lives

[01:01:14] Yeah, which is yeah, it's the matrix yeah, I sort of Truly spoiler for anybody wants to watch the matrix but hasn't what's gonna say two two matrix references in a row

[01:01:25] Like I'm looking at us like if we were looking at this we're like they were like a little like A little sensor and had like a little display like the nerd lover right now. It's in the red I kind of worried Oh

[01:01:40] Grandma's gonna ask from a lunch party here soon Yeah, yeah, no he it's yeah 3D printer small D Yeah, it's speaking to stumbled over the big deer here speak This is legit. I think one of my favorite scenes on rewatch which I just crack out

[01:02:08] I hit the wrong sound What's wrong with you This is the one I was going for where to go? There we go, everyone Speaking a big D god We're leaving this all in by the way The wheels are falling off from 24 minutes into the movie

[01:02:29] All right, so ego desired me Meaning So he created a physical form through which he could travel through space and find other forms of life to minimize his loneliness ego

[01:02:42] I created what I imagined to be biological life or what I imagined biological life to be like down to the most my new detail Dracks Did you make a penis dude? I love that I love that part Gamora what is wrong with you?

[01:03:02] Dracks if he's a planet how could he make a baby with your mother? He would smother He goes on to say Peter's like I don't need to hear about him

[01:03:12] Carrying like why my mother would tell the story my father tells to have him pregnant and my mother every winter solstice And try and Peter's like that's disgusting and tracks like it was beautiful. You earthers that hangups cracks me up

[01:03:24] It's so good. It's so good that that that scene I was like literally falling off my couch I think it was just The heart or ego says he confirms that he doesn't need to have a penis thing because I'm

[01:03:38] Add it's quote, it's not half bad and tracks you have to watch it Dracks looks at him. He's got like a muse and then he looks down to check it out and James Gunn said this is maybe his favorite moment in the guitar film

[01:03:53] So great. It's so great. Yeah, they one just one common about tracks like His character is much different in this movie. It is very comedic the what's what's ironic is like I don't think we see him fighting After the opening credit scene it everything else is just

[01:04:12] You know kind of Character interact with mantis humor I thought he was he did a really great job in the role because you think tracks is he Which could put him into a bunch of fighting scenes and that's not the case

[01:04:26] Right, yeah, yeah, David but he's did a great job here of Flexing some of that Some of that comedic chop and some of that that just more The the development the the character development. He's not just this big old pile of muscles that stabs things

[01:04:47] Which was pretty great So ego talks about wanting to be fully human quill asks when you go Met his mother and ego explains that they met when he was wandering earth and they fell in love

[01:05:01] And that love resulted in a the birth of Peter and we get this weird I don't have to strap it. It's so creepy. It's it's like What's the it's almost What's the like marshmallow candy stuff Oh, no, no not peeps

[01:05:26] Oh Mars a pan. It's almost like Mars a pan models kind of except like really lattered up and very shiny So if you took Mars a pan and you mashed up with mannequin

[01:05:38] I don't know what the word would be but that's what it is because it Mars a kid Manic part It's just it's every time you see it if we see it a couple times and it is super creepy

[01:05:54] Made it look almost intentionally yeah, yeah like like this is this is supposed to it's supposed to look very clean and very like nice and But it's too nice. It's too nice. It's too clean. It's too

[01:06:08] Like perfect to smooth to shine. Yeah, yeah, I just it kind of creep me out when I saw it when I was reminded like oh, yeah That's super creepy We cut to the ravages ship where the muteness ravagers are cheering as they jettison

[01:06:24] The rest of yandoo's men into space one by Taser face pronounces himself the new leader which causes rocket to laugh and mock his name in front of the entire crew Taser face announces that rocket is the next die to which rocket responds well

[01:06:43] dying is certainly better than having to live an entire life who as a moronic ship back who thinks Taser face is a cool name Sick burn rocket sick burn

[01:06:55] Nebula announces that there will be no more killing today and she tells Taser face that she wants zero percent or 10 percent Is a 10 percent or 50 it's 10 Okay, yeah 10 percent of what they were going to take Uh

[01:07:11] For yandoo rocket and group and a couple more things one of those things is a spare hand from a box of hands Struggling and As well as a ship with coordinates set for the planet you go She asks what she's doing

[01:07:31] He asks what she's going to do with her share Nebula as a child my father would have tomorrow and I battle one another In training every time my sister prevailed my father would replace a piece of me with machinery claiming he wanted me to be our equal

[01:07:46] Boyn she won again and again and again and again never once Refraining So after I murder my sister I will buy a warship with every conceivable instrument of death I will hug down my father like a dog. I will tear him apart slowly piece by piece

[01:08:05] Telly knows some semblance of the profound and unceasing pain. I know every day. May I take drag one? sure yeah I was talking about like a pretty necklace Or an ice hat you know something to make the old girls go like oh that's nice Anyways, hapatrails

[01:08:29] This is this is one of those scenes where Sean gun comes through so like I Watched all of Gilmore girls with my wife shortly after we started dating and Sean gun plays a big part of Gilmore girls

[01:08:44] And this is one of those scenes where he you can see he's channeling his character Kirk from Gilmore girls and it's hot, so that's great um So then we turn to Peter and ego standing in front of a statue of Meredith Quill Peter says his mom

[01:09:05] told people that his dad was from the stars but wasn't believed because she Everybody thought she was delusional Because of her brain cancer Peter remained skeptical about ego but continues to ask When winded ego leave his mother he go explain that he would regularly return

[01:09:32] He had to regularly return to his own planet otherwise this human form will perish Peter asks why he never returned and sent yon do of all people to get him You go said I loved your Peter I loved your mother Peter I

[01:09:49] Couldn't stand to set foot on earth where she wasn't living You can't imagine what that's like Peter I know exactly what that feels like I had to watch her die Softening his voice ego says he's made millions of mistakes but Peter isn't one of them and that

[01:10:07] And asks Peter if he can be his father He also tells Peter that as the offspring of a millennial Peter Celestial non millennial Peter has the ability to manipulate the light and Re-shape it as matter Peter and ego begin to bond over a father son game of cats

[01:10:29] Or above light And Peter starts to soften towards ego. The uh the I made a million mistakes Comment I've made millions of mistake Peter, but you aren't one of them I think we'll see the other ones a little bit later on. Yeah, yeah, baby maybe

[01:10:48] Meanwhile mantis and dracks are also bonding she tells him that ego discovered her in her larval larval state And that she was raised by ego and kept as his own Dracks says so your a pet mantis I suppose

[01:11:04] Dracks people usually want cute pets why would you you go want such a hideous one mantis I am hideous Dracks you're horrifying look at you Yes, but that's a good thing when you're ugly and someone loves you You know that they love you for who you are

[01:11:24] Beautiful people never know who to trust mantis well I'm certainly grateful to be ugly Poor Thor never knows who to trust So Dracks tells mantis that she reminds him of his own daughter innocent She touches his arm and feels profound pain and grief

[01:11:54] Mantis is about to warn Dracks about something but stops when she sees Gamora the trio walks away Where to where they will be staying Gamora asks why there is no other living creatures on the planet mantis explains that ego

[01:12:10] Is the planet and that a dog would not invite flees on its back? God rough Yeah, the the scene Very kind of pointy at where she touches his arm and She senses like his loss and his grief and she is like

[01:12:30] Visually upset and he is sitting there stoically like he Lives this every day and this is how he externally is which I thought was really well. I thought it's really well done Yeah, yeah that that like upon

[01:12:45] rewatch and and further study that relationship throughout this whole movie is so well done You know there there is no romantic tension they diffuse any romantic tension between these two characters very quickly And instead you just get to see this really beautiful friendship and like it

[01:13:05] It's really cool to use mantis who is this like hyper emotional character right ultimately because of her empathetic abilities She she is Like a very very very very very emotional character to kind of

[01:13:27] Give background that they use her to give background that you can't really give drugs because He is this he's the antithesis of that right he has no Outward emotions really

[01:13:40] At least negative ones we see him laugh and that's sort of thing but like generally speaking, you know, he doesn't have a An outward life and outward emotional life

[01:13:51] Which is really cool and really creative to to stay very true to dracks as like this big tough guy but like Use another character to chip away and and show the Goe emotional center Yep, no I agree totally

[01:14:10] So from there we jump over to the ravinger ship check on what's going on back over there Nebula has left and we see rocket and yandoo in They get thrown into a cell They bond over being rejected and abused

[01:14:25] Yandoo served as a crey battle slave for 20 years and was invited to join the ravinders So long as he adhered to the code but yandoo broke the code by trafficking quill because he was young greedy and stupid

[01:14:40] And was exiled by their avidgers yandoo asks about quill and rocket tells him He went off with ego who also has a dumb name Rocket says Today is a day a name for dumb ass names you're smiling and for a second I got warm feeling

[01:15:00] But then it was ruined by those disgusting ass teeth yandoo You like a professional asshole or what Rocket pretty much a pro So great yeah the scene the rocket scene I thought was really kind of telling like you see You see yandoo now kind of

[01:15:23] Beating up himself he is like he is rejected over what he's he's he has Like be kicked out of the ravingers his entire group is now dissociated from the ravagers and Because of tazer phase that because of the mutiny like

[01:15:40] His entire his non-menus crew has been killed one by one in space and just like that just the worst way You just see them like floating out like

[01:15:49] Like you know, I think of like Star Wars when they've ejected like debris and garbage and that's what it looks like just floating outside It was oh god of stuff to watch Yeah, yeah, yandoo

[01:16:02] I mean from the first scene we see him in this movie he is just so vulnerable right? So we see him zipping up his pants and shirtless and he's not you know, he's not It's Michael Rooker he's 60 plus years old and he's not

[01:16:15] By any means cut like you know, it's not the fan service shirtless type of thing like they do with Chris Pratt or you know any of the other heroes. It is more of like

[01:16:26] Let's you know look at this man who has lived a life right yandoo has lived Rough life and and has made some bad choices and and so Through this movie we get a really cool

[01:16:39] Deep emotional look at yandoo. Yeah, his Chris Pratt even said like yandoo shirtless scene was way more impressive like He's 60 years old. Let me come on people like good word. He's awesome. He's awesome this film he is

[01:16:53] So yandoo tells Rocket that he has a plan to get out of there But they need group cut to group he's wearing a mini ravinger outfit and this all man This was so hard to watch like this baby group is just getting absolutely

[01:17:10] abused either chanting mascot mascot they're pouring booze on him It was actually legitimately kind of hard to watch So after the hazing has subsided we see group kind of dragging himself away Before yandoo and rocket call to him and they need his help yandoo There's something I need

[01:17:34] You to get and bring back to me in the captain's quarters. There's a prototype fun the thing on war on my head There's a drawer next to the bunk It's in that it's red you got it

[01:17:47] Yandoo smiles his group nods and rushes away and seek he sneaks past Sleeping ravagers and brings back underwear And and or Lonnie And then forkers eye which hey finally Rocket got workers eye And then he brings back a whole desk And then you know he channels his inner

[01:18:16] Big Lebowski and brings back a Severe human toe I told you it'll get you a toe. I have questions about that, but let's keep going Yandoo then removes a Leafshaaped ornament from his suit and shows it to group delzimits in a drawer that has this symbol on it

[01:18:38] Sweet baby group First he wears this symbol like the badge as a hat and says that he hates hats because it confuses him about head shapes But finally he finds the drawer And opens it up and he picks up the gear shift candy It's not that hard

[01:19:07] Now craglin arrives and grabs the prototype fin for Yandoo craglin apologizes for the mutiny In sadly states they killed all my friends Yandoo tells him to get the third quadrant ready for release and rocket

[01:19:23] asks if he has any clones of quills music on the ship. Okay, I have a couple comments here first of all The part we raised about like the it being difficult to watch what they were doing to group I agree that was I

[01:19:39] I had forgotten that scene or kind of like it you know recessed in my brain, but I saw that and I was like oh my gosh this is Really tough to watch. Fortunately this is the last difficult scene In a garden yeah

[01:19:55] Okay, so they know the ravagers know there's an extra fan like why would you leave that round like Why would you just not immediately destroy it in it's in there? But um

[01:20:11] Other question of where like the human toe thing I did legitimately get confused. I where do they get that wrong? Are they're human because it's labeled it's not just a toe it's a human toe are there are the humans are spread across space

[01:20:25] Did they just land them when they went to earth did they like I just don't see Peter's toe is it like what where did you get the toe from The the one thing I do like the in all seriousness the Finn that they use the replacement fan

[01:20:43] That was one of the critiques fans didn't love Yandoo fans are as marble fans hate Folks people marble folks Nerds like there's always something to complain about and they didn't love his fin in the first movie

[01:20:56] So he made the prototype fan look like the original one as a nod to the fans so Maybe look a lot more much more like the comics Yeah, and I remember When like Yandoo

[01:21:10] In the next scene when he like turns the corner with that pin I remember like an audible gas from the comic books viewing really everyone was like oh they did it So yeah, we then move over come a little bit closer by Jay and the Americans

[01:21:30] Which is a perfect underscore for this scene great perfect song. It's so good so good They got the ravengers the one guy shaving and you hear the speakers Kind of crackle in the mutant and you hear the guitar

[01:21:44] Ah, it's great. Yeah, the mutin is ravengers here the music and a symbol to find Rock it and Yandoo with his prototype fin which powers the arrow and then a Big huge mass murder scene that makes you just feel so good. It's a feel good mass murder scene

[01:22:05] Somebody described this at it. It's always been stuck on my head like oh that's bad. This is great We see like this great slow motion scene where Rocket Yandoo and group they walk through the ship

[01:22:18] They just completely wipe out all the ravengers multiple levels of the ship. It's the arrows flying everywhere you see You see all these ravages falling off the the Catwalk

[01:22:40] The ship it's kind it's almost like it's raining men right and it's actually I think they exaggerate how many ravagers There are like when you like at least when I watch this I was like there's no way

[01:22:51] Way, there were that many ravagers but you see them all falling You see poor old Jimmy you are in getting killed And actually the guy who yells down there is credited as down there and he's also a drummer for

[01:23:05] I forget what bands now but you know James gunnun is music connections cool Group chases and catches up to one of his tour mentors and throws him off the ledge we see Just a really great scene where essentially using video screens

[01:23:28] Yandoo is just moving his arrow all around And we see one point where he like knocks out the lights and it's very reminiscent of like rogue one So we being Vader like has the red light saber that lights up And

[01:23:50] Everybody is you know just having a good time right So then all we're left with is Taser face Taser face is calling this oven to Before then Remember he's got the you fires up the arrow. He's like that's right extra juicy yep so he he hits the flame

[01:24:14] The flame add on to the arrow And Yandoo sheets and it taser face taser face dodges But it hits the gas tanks through the ship which makes a huge part of the ship start to explode Injuring taser face

[01:24:33] Yandoo seals off the explosion and we see t taser face Estinglish his flames and attempt to contact iisha Operator who is this Taser face I'm sending you coordinates for Yandoo ship I only ask one thing that your high priestess

[01:24:51] That your high priestess tell him the name of the man what sealed his fate Taser face The operator snickers and erupts into laughter Well taser face groans as the majority of the ship explodes meanwhile rocket group and

[01:25:10] Yandoo and Kraglin escape on the transport ship and Kraglin asks where to captain To which rocket says EO Which causes Yandoo to react as their faces begin to distort It ain't healthy for a man million body to do more than 50 jumps at a time rocket you know that

[01:25:34] Or I know that says rocket we're about to do 700 Q a big CGI warp Seeing before we return to Ego and through this warp I think this is where we also go past the cronin homeworld which Crone the cronin core will come up here in a couple movies

[01:26:01] Gamora is trying to contact rocket Well Peter wants her to dance He asks when they're going to do something about the unspoken salmon Diane on a TV things Between them which to which Gamora Response there is no one's spoken thing Which turned down

[01:26:27] Gamora tries to warn Peter that something is a miss but Peter dismisses her concerns He reminds her that She was the one who wanted them to come here and he tells her that you finally found his family Gamora I thought you already have

[01:26:44] Thanks. Well, I'm half celestial so I'm a little bit better Yeah this the the Yandoo ship scene is I think One of the best in the movies in the movie If you didn't watch it there's a scene when when Yandoo's arrow blows up the

[01:27:06] We're starts the explosion which the chain reaction which would destroy the whole ship Rocket says you may need act this whole ship is going blow and I Pause it at that moment and you see yandoo the background he's just got the biggest

[01:27:20] You know what eating cronin is so good. It's so good. I even noted the exact time At-scoreate so Yeah RIP taser face By this point in time the movie I was pretty much over the taser face joke, but it's kind of like

[01:27:36] You know when you're hanging out with your friends or whatever and you're just you're it's the same joke You beat into the ground and you love it or hate it. Yeah, so that was good. Yeah

[01:27:46] So Gamora storms off to a field before she is confronted by nebula in a spacecraft who in a kind of a real Star Wars rise of Skywalker vibe here Chases her and tries to shoot her

[01:28:02] Nebula is a terrible shot and can't hit her a single time they end up in a cavern where she flies this Base ship in the cavern trying to get to her and Nebula grabs a gun and just begins shooting in nebula. So you see some of the

[01:28:16] The classic sister love that they have for one another As Nebula is engulfed in flames Gamora saves Nebula, but the fight isn't over I think like Nebula starts fighting Gores like are you kidding me and they fight before debut

[01:28:32] Best certain colors. I win I best did you in contact and it contest and you could tell like Like this is what she's been waiting for And then they kind of bigger back and forth you definitely see a real kind of

[01:28:46] Sister relationship here and before an end of the describes how she was tortured and says quote You were the one I'm sorry you were the one who wanted to win and I just wanted a sister And then we thank you and then we cut to Peter

[01:29:03] Who is chilling in a bod pod and listen to Brandy by looking glass you know seen throughout the movie and ego approach is Peter And ego explains how that song is analogous to the two of them and He's he ego is like

[01:29:21] Recounting the lyrics you and I Peter were the sailor in the song He came on a summer stay Bring gifts from far away Like the child I put in your brother or the freedom you brought Gamora Brandy you're a fine girl

[01:29:36] What a good wife you would be but my love My life my love my lady is the sea The sea the calls that's sailor back he loves the girl, but that's not his place

[01:29:50] So eager ego is using this to explain to Peter that the sea calls upon him as history calls upon great men and that sometimes Their types are deprived of mortal pleasures. He also tells Peter that they're both immortal So long as the planet like exists Peter

[01:30:11] Realizing he has this amazing power says he is going to quote makes him weird shit like an 800 foot statue of Pac man Or and have a lot clear like he uses like I can't wait to fire this 3D printer

[01:30:26] Mantis eavesdropped and sees ego's plan playing out and make and wake strikes to warn him which leads us again Not funny interaction Dracks we need to talk Dracks is I'm sorry, but I like a little woman with some meat on her bones and it meant to say what

[01:30:42] He's so I tried to tell you I try to let you down easily by telling you you were downright disgusting What what he met is what are you doing and then you see drags he's rolling over he's ratching He's like Imagine being with a fizzicle

[01:30:58] Drant and mantis like that's not what I don't like you like that I don't even mate with the type of thing you are and Dracks like whoa hey, there's no need to get personal after insulting her savagely man so

[01:31:15] Anyway, so she finally tells Dracks that ego has gotten exactly what he wanted and warns him that they aren't dangerous And I'd like to pause for a quick second when you talked earlier about the the relationship if you will

[01:31:27] You know, mantis has lived with his knowledge throughout the entire film and she builds this trust relationship with Dracks which is later reciprocated later in the movie when he tries to save her keep her life and I thought that was very kind of telling you

[01:31:42] Know she's been wanting to tell him but having since his pain and empathy by like Like she has in a this kind of very short period of time to felt this very kind of real relationship with him

[01:31:53] And she is now concerned about them whereas before it was just like I'm just I'm going to live my existence But because there doesn't appear to be anybody else living on the planet

[01:32:02] She never had to worry about anyone so I thought that was kind of at this point in time You you get to see this real kind of like bond if you roam We shift to ego and Peter they're in some sort of grand room

[01:32:14] ego explains that Peter will need to Reajust how he processes life Everything in life other than them including Nebula is temporary You know Peter asks if it turns against boring to which ego says not if you have a purpose, which is why you're here So we

[01:32:32] Gamora and Nebula arrive on the scene as ego I mean coincidentally enough in terms of timing finally reveals his grand plan. We are you know 70 minutes in and we finally get to the point where He tells Peter that he has found meeting and ego then taps Peter's forehead

[01:32:54] in a again, I'm gonna reference the matrix transroced him some knowledge and he basically shares with him his special purpose Peter's eyes kind of glaze over and turn a different color and Peter sees eternity which is a glowing cavern

[01:33:11] filled with skeletons now that doesn't sound like a great like existence for me I would like something a little bit more eye peeling and I guess It's done at a point in time where

[01:33:26] Nebula and Gamora this was a little bit confusing to be on our view caught this for not but like they also see the room right okay and Gamora gasps and Nebula is like we need to get off this planet

[01:33:39] so yeah and I will also say that like this school room if you will is quote James gun full of Easter eggs They're not a whole eye has been like confirmed necessarily but you see schools that look like gungins

[01:34:02] ducks all up like have maybe Howard the ducks homeworld or you know Daisy and Donald you see like beta ray bills race you see potentially like a rain core school there's there's so many schools there and and I'm sure it is just knowing how James gun works

[01:34:29] I'm sure it's full of just fun little surprises that nobody has found yet so when we see the collectors room we see like his his you know amazing collection of items I really wanted to stop and try to find as many as I could

[01:34:45] here I'm kind of grossed out and I don't really want to go skeleton by skeleton tried to identify the original form of egos whatever the offspring of egos like how was that?

[01:34:58] yeah that is zebra is that a gun gun is that like I'm good I'm good that's fan good I'm gonna put some other reddit nerd like I don't find it anyway that shot much lump to the red nerds anyway so we see rocket group y'all

[01:35:16] doing craglin jumping through space you know again faces are all distorted ultimately landing on egos planned but before we get there we get our obligatory and final Stanley cameo we see them jump across the

[01:35:34] um the uh across the planet we see Stanley is wearing a space suit and he is talking to three watchers and he Stanley who is credited as watcher informant says oh man anyway before I was so rudely interrupted at that time I was a federal express man

[01:35:54] which is a callback Tony staying callback to him I bring a package for Tony stink in Captain America Civil War which is set in 2016 two years after this film but it's watchers and time travel like whatever it's a time to who can't yeah time

[01:36:16] time and the can't be to watchers can't be too literal about it so the spaceship finally comes to a halt in the outer atmosphere of ego rocket says that they are out to

[01:36:24] save quill y'all do ask if he is saving quill for honor or love and rocket says it's so he could prove he's better and to load it over quill forever y'all do laughs which is not the response you

[01:36:38] would think it would be and that leads to this very poignant exchange between y'all and do and rocket and it's very long so I'll do y'all do if you want to rock it sounds good you can fool yourself

[01:36:53] and everyone else but you can't fool me I know who you are you don't even know anything about me loser I know everything about you I know you like play like you're the meest and the hardest

[01:37:06] but actually you're the most scared of all shut up I know you still batteries you don't need and you push people away any of anyone who's willing to come up to be anyone who's willing to put

[01:37:16] up with you because just a little bit of a reminds you of how big an empty that hole inside you actually is I said shut up I know them scientists what made you never gave a rat to ask about you

[01:37:29] I'm serious dude just like my own damn parents who sold me their own little baby boy into slavery I just know who you are boy because you are me what kind of a pair are we

[01:37:43] the kind that's about to go find a planet at reckon all right okay good that's wait final what oh yeah it's great um the it's a long scene but um does a couple things here one

[01:37:59] you've now see this very real bond between rocket and yandu and um what was kind of see a little bit later on but this is uh you know really great uh yandu stuff here and James got actually like had

[01:38:14] at that point in time like felt like he Michael Rucker deserved a nomination for like the sporty actor or something because he's really great this black one of the scenes but the other thing

[01:38:24] that occurred to me is like rock would have made a great ravisher and we're really like at the end of the movie like I I'm down for a ravisher movie or ravager tv series but um people can dream

[01:38:39] at that to the to the list of Disney plus so it doesn't even have to be anyway look at it we cut to get more in Nebula they've reunited with Draximantis Gamora grabs mantis by the

[01:38:51] throat into man's to know more about the planet and the bodies in the caverns mantis whose hands are on Gamora's forearms since her feeling she's you are scared which didn't cause her to

[01:39:03] recoil in drop or we cut back to Peter Igo who's explaining his grand plan is called deac expansion that seems like a nice thing thanks man it's on ego planned to convert all the planets

[01:39:15] in the galaxy into extensions of himself hence the name ego probably should have picked up on the narcissistic theme earlier but anyway he explains that he needed the help of another celestial to fill his purpose so he set out to impregnate various species throughout the universe in in

[01:39:35] hopes of siren another celestial q again the creepy marzipan manic win mannequin marzipan baby making scene with multiple like so cut back to mantis who explains that the room is a masquerade for the remains of egos other children i.e. the millions of pyrema stakes

[01:40:01] were because in the ego killed them simply because they did not have his celestial powers and so this is where the it's disclosed that ego at hard yandu deliverers phares children and this is the child trafficking which is mentioned earlier which broke the ravature code but yandu is

[01:40:21] well compensated and told ego you know and yandu claims he didn't know what was going on you know it's like the old expression for me once shamanu for me twice well 347 to 10th out for me

[01:40:38] full me 20,000 times you know what shame on me right so we you know he ego killed all this children because they were not they were not celestial is but yandu is compensated well and

[01:40:56] you know he told yandu that ego told yandu that he would never hurt the children and this is where it gets super creepy and this is where the portrayal of ego by cartrossel changes because he says which is technically true because they never felt a thing.

[01:41:15] yeah none of those children carried the celestial gene which was the power to manipulate light that we saw earlier but having heard of Peter's ability to hold an infinity stone and live ego sought out Peter the high hopes of success this time so it's super creepy to think

[01:41:34] that ego is the planet the caves are part our inside of his body and he's keeping the bones of his murder children inside himself let that let that one sink in oh James gun you destroy us

[01:41:49] god yeah creep eat meanwhile the rest of the guardians are coming around to learn ego's plan Gamora tells them that they need to find Peter and get off the planet but mantis warns them

[01:42:04] that it is too late it is ego will have won him to aside right now he has away nebula then we just go Gamora no he's our friend nebula any of you all any of you do is yell at each other

[01:42:21] you are not friends tracks you are right we are family we have no we leave no one behind except maybe you again comedic time and great yeah come back to ego who exclaims that for every time

[01:42:42] in his existence that for the very first time in his existence he is truly not alone he asks about he asks his friends about ego and reminds him that he is mortal sorry Peter asks him

[01:43:02] remember yeah right Peter's asking yeah yeah sorry no I lost track there for a second I had a visitor here in the studio on the side so I apologize if there's background noise but

[01:43:14] so we cut back to ego who exclaims that for the very first time in his existence he is not alone he ego asks or sorry Peter asks about his friend but friends but ego reminds him that that is

[01:43:30] the mortal in him talking but then Peter asks about his mother Peter you said you loved my mother ego and that I did my river Lily who knew all the words to every song that came on the radio

[01:43:47] I turned I returned to earth to see her three times and I knew if I returned to fourth well I'd never leave the expansion the reason for my very existence would be over

[01:43:59] so I did what I had to do but it broke my heart to put that tumor in her head Peter and now you actually see his like eyes switch from like the eternity he had

[01:44:15] Peter goes what ego now now all right I know that sounds bad Peter continually shoots ego with his blasters he goes it was kind of like reforming and he transforms into

[01:44:32] David Hasselhoff for a minute here who in the hell do you think you are Peter you killed my mother ego I tried so hard to find the form and this is where he really forms into Hasselhoff

[01:44:48] that best suited you and this is the things that I get and he changes back over to Kyrrhusl you really need to grow up wild that is why this scene is just and we kind of see it come back

[01:45:05] come like infinity war there's some there's some very similar staging so watchers keep keep an eye on that but when when ego realizes his son isn't going to go along

[01:45:20] with the plan he decides that he has to do it the hard way using him as a quote unquote battery which hey batteries if we had any question whether to whether ego was a all around super cool

[01:45:34] chill guy he then crushes that idea by crushing Peter's walkman bummer so this this scene is pretty you know you could see the transformation of Peter when you know he is when ego mentions

[01:45:56] he's killed a bunch of his half siblings like he is you know I don't know if it's entirely mind-crule but like he is being seduced all will describe like that by this power if you will and

[01:46:08] he didn't doesn't even seem to flinch when he hears about the dead brothers and sisters and he kind of grins a little bit if you notice like we start playing out his plan we

[01:46:18] starts talking about his plan for the entire universe and even when Peter is reminded that his friends will likely die it it's like it takes very little persuasion because he's you know I'm above that

[01:46:31] I'm in a mortal if you will the scene where he finally says like broke my heart to put that tumor in her head I was like oh god so crushing like I don't I don't know I'm now first of all

[01:46:49] like of course like who among us wouldn't solve problem by planting a tumor into a loved one's brain but that's but that's obvious but more poorly in real and more seriously like like why tell

[01:47:01] him now do you think because he felt like he was like fully like seduced by the power and that he was on board with it do you think that he just felt like like I can't quite why not just start the plan

[01:47:17] now and they just like let him I think it was I think it was too fold I mean part of it was I think he thought he was seduced right we we see that but I I think the other piece is I think

[01:47:33] I think Ego was rolling right like he he he was moving forward with this plan that he has had for Eons and Eons and Eons and Eons and finally he gets to take action on it so I think there's kind of

[01:47:45] of that like just a little bit of getting lost in the moment right and just like okay cool you know gloves are off here's here is what happened here is everything right and he probably in his and his own mind

[01:48:00] probably felt like oh this is perfectly logical like once you've accepted the fact I think part of the what you've accepted fact the journey mortal that you're celestial that you'll have forever like

[01:48:11] you there is something to be said for the fact that the everything else is temporary and you can't I I kind of see the logical if it's temporary you can't get too invested in it

[01:48:22] I just feel like because he's been at it for millions of years like he has this you know second nature is obvious like you know of course of course this is not the stuff that matters
