[00:00:00] What's up everybody? It's Editing Booth Ryan here. I just wanted to jump on real quick. I wanted to share with you guys, we're trying something a little different with this monthly bugle this month. Instead of one big episode that's got all your news in it, we decided we wanted to split it up a little bit. So the episode you are listening to right now, it's all current events. It's our Agatha review, it's some stuff about Deadpool and Wolverine, it's also got some comic content talking about some currently released comics.
[00:00:28] Later today in your feed you will see a separate episode. It's called our Coming Attractions episode. That one is going to cover all of the rumors, all of the new interviews, everything like that, plus our Trailer Park segment where we go through the trailers, we break them down, we tell you about what's coming next.
[00:00:51] So give both a listen, give us feedback, let us know how you like this format. We kind of dig it. It lets us cover some more news in a little bit more digestible way. Please let us know what you think of it. Anyway, we will let you get on with the show. Thank you for listening. Take it away, past future other Ryan.
[00:01:17] Welcome to Puny Pods Monthly Bugle for November 2024. My name is Ryan and my co-host as always is David.
[00:01:25] David, how are, I usually ask how are we doing, but I don't know if that's an appropriate question to ask at this stage in the game.
[00:01:34] How are we holding up, buddy?
[00:01:36] You're talking about like real life stuff. Marvel stuff is great.
[00:01:40] It is, it is.
[00:01:41] Real life is a little bit rocky, but, but there's a lot of content to distract us from reality.
[00:01:49] So how are you doing?
[00:01:50] Heck yeah, same man. That's, I actually, I think I posted, I don't remember if it was to the Puny Pod page or if it was to my own where I was like, you know, even though 2025 is bound to be rough, at least our media empires are giving us entertainment as we go.
[00:02:10] So we have a couple MCU movies to look forward to.
[00:02:14] Yep.
[00:02:15] Well, we have a jam packed slate here.
[00:02:19] We have a current content review.
[00:02:21] So I will drop in our usual spoiler warning right before we get into that.
[00:02:27] So it's just like on the last monthly bugle, I'll cut it in right before we get into anything spoilery.
[00:02:34] So you know exactly where to jump to.
[00:02:39] We have some news about future projects in the MCU.
[00:02:44] We have some news about current ongoing, you know, current releases.
[00:02:50] We have, we have actually a new segment that I'm pretty stoked to throw in, which is some comic content.
[00:02:58] Been meaning to add more comic content here to the bugle for a while.
[00:03:02] So pretty excited to get to add that.
[00:03:05] And then we have a jam packed trailer park.
[00:03:08] The trailer park is very populated this, this month.
[00:03:11] So very excited to get into some Marvel news with my buddy here.
[00:03:19] Let's do this.
[00:03:20] Let's do this thing.
[00:03:22] So future editing, Ryan, this is where you put in the spoiler warning for Agatha all along.
[00:03:30] So no spoiler warning.
[00:03:32] Just listen to people.
[00:03:33] Just hard launch.
[00:03:34] Just hard launch.
[00:03:36] So listeners, you're going to hear future me from the editing bay here right now.
[00:03:41] Hi there.
[00:03:43] Hey guys.
[00:03:44] It is future Ryan coming to you from the editing bay.
[00:03:48] I am saving you all from the spoilery, spoiler, spoilers of Agatha all along.
[00:03:55] So if you have not watched all of Agatha all along, one, pause this episode right now.
[00:04:00] Go watch it.
[00:04:00] It's great.
[00:04:00] But if that's not in the cards for you, if you're driving or something like that, that
[00:04:05] doesn't make sense for you.
[00:04:06] Go ahead and jump to 36 minutes and 52 seconds.
[00:04:13] Again, that's 36 minutes and 52 seconds.
[00:04:17] That way you can skip all of our spoilers.
[00:04:20] You can keep yourself safe.
[00:04:22] And then you can come back to this episode once you do watch Agatha and you can enjoy it.
[00:04:29] But, uh, so yeah, anyways, skip to 36 minutes and 52 seconds.
[00:04:35] I have a little bit more time to fill here.
[00:04:37] So I will also say a quick plug.
[00:04:41] Go listen to our, uh, go listen to our Ms. Marvel episode.
[00:04:45] I listened to it the other day.
[00:04:47] I loved it.
[00:04:47] I hope you guys do too.
[00:04:49] All right.
[00:04:50] Awesome.
[00:04:51] Um, well, uh, welcome back.
[00:04:54] Uh, those of you who, uh, have walked the witch's road and have survived.
[00:05:00] Uh, we are going to talk about all, uh, well, the last, uh, what six episodes of, uh, five,
[00:05:10] five, five.
[00:05:11] Yep.
[00:05:11] Uh, so from episode five to episode nine, um, of Agatha all along, we covered episodes
[00:05:20] one through four last month in the monthly beautiful.
[00:05:23] So if you missed that, go check that out.
[00:05:25] If you skipped it because you weren't caught up, uh, you can go list, go back and listen
[00:05:31] to that, um, on our last episode.
[00:05:33] But here we're going to talk about episodes five through nine.
[00:05:38] Uh, so I'll kick us off here, David.
[00:05:41] I'll start with episode five, darkest hour, wake thy power.
[00:05:46] You need to sing it, Ryan.
[00:05:46] You can't just like read it.
[00:05:48] Darkest hour, wake thy power.
[00:05:51] There's this, actually the soundtrack, which is just that song.
[00:05:54] Like I didn't realize they'd recorded it so many different ways.
[00:05:57] And once you, once you hear that baby, it is stuck in your mind.
[00:06:02] Uh, so darkest hour, wake thy power, uh, directed by Rachel Goldberg, uh, written by Laura
[00:06:10] Monati.
[00:06:11] Um, the Salem seven arrive on the road to chase the coven who evades them using makeshift
[00:06:19] flying broomsticks.
[00:06:21] You know, that was a really fun, uh, like moment when they made their broomsticks and
[00:06:26] they have to figure out how to like bewitch them so that they can fly.
[00:06:31] Um, after being pulled back down to the back down by the road, they enter the next trial,
[00:06:38] which takes the form of a cabin in the classic 1980s kind of summer campy sleepover aesthetic.
[00:06:47] Uh, very like eighties.
[00:06:50] Um, what's camp crystal lake?
[00:06:52] Why can't I think of the horror movie that that is?
[00:06:55] Uh, Halloween.
[00:06:57] Yes.
[00:06:58] Uh, very, very much that aesthetic.
[00:07:00] They use a Ouija board, um, and make contact with Agatha's mother of Nora, Eva Nora, who was
[00:07:11] killed by her daughter in 1693 along with her previous coven, uh, revealed to be the mothers
[00:07:18] of the seven.
[00:07:19] So this is a bit of an adjustment from the comic books where, uh, the seven are the children
[00:07:25] of Nicholas Scratch who we'll talk about a little bit later, but, um, they, they instead
[00:07:31] are the daughters of, uh, Agatha's previous coven here in the show.
[00:07:37] Warning the coven to leave Agatha, warning her new Agatha's new coven to leave her behind.
[00:07:44] Uh, Eva Nora, uh, possesses her and attacks the group.
[00:07:48] Alice uses her powers to expel Eva Nora, Eva Nora from Agatha who proceeds to absorb Alice's
[00:07:57] magic.
[00:07:58] Teen noticing another's spirit presence stops Agatha by shouting its name, Agatha's son, Nicholas
[00:08:06] Scratch, but not before Alice dies.
[00:08:11] Womp womp.
[00:08:11] That was really sad.
[00:08:12] More like record scratch.
[00:08:14] I'm kidding.
[00:08:16] I was sad.
[00:08:17] I liked Alice.
[00:08:18] Alice was really fun.
[00:08:20] She was really fun and it was sad to lose her.
[00:08:23] Um, Agatha insists that it was accidental, but Teen lashes out at her as well as Lilia and
[00:08:29] Jen who affirm that their goals are the same as Agatha's.
[00:08:34] Uh, the latter mocks the teen by stating that he is just like his mother.
[00:08:42] Who's that mother?
[00:08:43] You might wonder.
[00:08:44] Well, we'll never know.
[00:08:47] Anger except for right in this scene.
[00:08:49] We, we do.
[00:08:49] In fact, no.
[00:08:51] Strike that.
[00:08:52] I paused it right there.
[00:08:53] That was not bad.
[00:08:53] Yeah.
[00:08:54] You might need to go back and rewatch this one, like five minute segment, uh, angered.
[00:09:01] Uh, the teen magically forces Lilla, Lilia and Jen to toss Agatha into a mud trap and then
[00:09:08] blast them as well as the witches sink a headwear similar to the Scarlet Witches appears on
[00:09:15] teen's head.
[00:09:17] What?
[00:09:17] All right.
[00:09:18] So the, this was the worst kept secret we talked about last time.
[00:09:22] Yeah.
[00:09:23] Always Billy Maximoff, right?
[00:09:25] Oh, a hundred percent.
[00:09:26] Yeah.
[00:09:26] This was, he was Billy Maximoff to, to the end, but I did love that they did the reveal with
[00:09:34] like Scarlet Witches, uh, crown.
[00:09:36] That was a really cool way to do it.
[00:09:38] Um, and this is kind of where the like parody of other, um, horror genre or thriller genres
[00:09:51] kind of ends.
[00:09:52] This was the last one that kind of followed that, um, trope.
[00:09:59] Well, I guess the next one follows it a little bit with the castle.
[00:10:02] Yep.
[00:10:03] Or in a couple.
[00:10:04] Yep.
[00:10:05] Yeah.
[00:10:05] Episode six familiar by thy side.
[00:10:08] Uh, directed by, I should never sing, uh, got to Monteiro written by Jason Rostovsky,
[00:10:16] sixth episode.
[00:10:17] So we see flashbacks of a, uh, uh, let's say teenage boy, 13 or so William Catlin, who
[00:10:26] is a, who's from West East view, not West view.
[00:10:29] And he's celebrating his bar mitzvah.
[00:10:31] Uh, and then he encounters Lilia.
[00:10:33] She does this like reading of his palm.
[00:10:36] Um, and then she gives him this little item that keeps cast the sigil on William to protect
[00:10:44] him instantly forgetting his identity.
[00:10:46] The party ends when the hex, which was created by Wanda nearby begins to collapse.
[00:10:50] So while driving past West view, his parents driving a car, get into a car accident, William
[00:10:57] dies.
[00:10:58] But at that moment, Billy Maximoff's soul enters William's body and resuscitates it.
[00:11:04] William air quotes struggles to adjust after the accident due to his new bound newfound
[00:11:09] ability to read minds and his lack of memory before.
[00:11:13] So basically like Billy's taken over, right?
[00:11:17] He tells him, uh, three years later, William and his boyfriend, Eddie meet with, wait for
[00:11:22] it.
[00:11:22] Ralph Boner.
[00:11:24] Hey, yo, weird garage parking garage, weird scene, uh, who used to be controlled by Agatha
[00:11:31] inside the hex in, um, Wanda vision.
[00:11:35] Uh, Ralph tells him about what happened there and about Wanda and visions twins, Billy and
[00:11:41] Tommy making William realize he's actually the former and realizes he has a missing brother.
[00:11:47] So determined to use the witch's road is to find Tommy.
[00:11:50] Billy goes to Agatha, breaks Wanda spell.
[00:11:52] And in the present, we see Agatha escape the mud and realizing the sigil has been destroyed.
[00:11:58] She realizes that Billy's goal and tells him they must continue together since he cannot
[00:12:03] control his power.
[00:12:04] So it was like, it was a very cool scene.
[00:12:06] I really like, um, like Catherine Taunt acting as it kind of goes along.
[00:12:11] This is one of them where she's like kind of covered in mud facial expressions.
[00:12:14] It's like, ah, it's really good.
[00:12:16] Yeah, it's really, really good.
[00:12:18] And so not to drag us into a dark place, uh, when talking about a really good show, but
[00:12:26] do we think that this was Ralph Boner or was this scroll Boner?
[00:12:30] Um, because we did see Ralph Boner was in the scroll fortress at the end of secret invasion.
[00:12:36] Did we?
[00:12:36] I forgot that.
[00:12:37] Yeah.
[00:12:38] I know Ross was in there, but I forgot about, uh, could this be, uh, yeah, it could have
[00:12:43] been, I meant to think about that.
[00:12:45] Didn't realize that.
[00:12:46] And, and just for fans of the comics or people who, who are aware of the comics, but don't
[00:12:51] know where it all went.
[00:12:52] Um, this does vary a little bit.
[00:12:55] So, um, essentially this fast forwards the comics in a way.
[00:13:02] So the story of how Billy and Tommy, AKA Wiccan and speed were, were basically, they were,
[00:13:12] they were parts of souls that were reclaimed by Mephisto.
[00:13:14] And then they were actually birthed back out as children and they lived out lives as their
[00:13:22] separate people.
[00:13:25] Um, so not quite this like possessing a teen in their teenage years, but I think it's appropriate
[00:13:32] for the MCU just to kind of do it that way, especially since they haven't introduced Mephisto
[00:13:38] or anything like that.
[00:13:40] I think it makes a lot of sense for, uh, Billy to, to kind of fast forward the, the, uh,
[00:13:51] origin story, if you will.
[00:13:52] Right.
[00:13:53] Just let's skip all the childhood stuff and let's just skip right to when he's a teenager
[00:13:58] and move on.
[00:14:02] Yeah.
[00:14:02] They're just going to like bend it.
[00:14:03] They're not going to necessarily follow the comics.
[00:14:06] So again, super fun episode.
[00:14:08] Um, the, the thing.
[00:14:11] I really liked up through the, all these episodes are like well paced and kind of leaves on like
[00:14:18] a crescendo mark, if you will.
[00:14:20] It's not just like, Hey, here's 30 minutes of exposition and then we'll just pause it
[00:14:24] right here.
[00:14:25] Like, yeah.
[00:14:28] Yeah.
[00:14:29] It was really good in the way that it, it kind of kept, kept you coming back, kept you
[00:14:33] moving.
[00:14:34] Um, it was definitely one where, uh, my, my wife actually each, each week was like, is
[00:14:40] there new?
[00:14:40] Is there a new Agatha yet?
[00:14:44] Um, so next episode, episode seven, death's hand in mine, uh, directed by Jack Schaefer,
[00:14:53] uh, written by Gia King and Cameron Squires.
[00:14:57] I do want to mention, I believe I didn't, I just kind of skimmed this, uh, this kind of
[00:15:05] summary.
[00:15:06] And I think this is told in a linear fashion in the way that the summary is written.
[00:15:12] However, the episode is shown in a nonlinear fashion, uh, basically through understanding
[00:15:20] how Lillia saw the whole story.
[00:15:23] Yeah.
[00:15:23] Totally.
[00:15:24] Cause this whole episode is based around Lillia.
[00:15:26] Did you, um, real quick before you get into, do you, did, did you, in some cases when you
[00:15:30] have like flashbacks, I find it kind of distracting.
[00:15:33] I really liked it.
[00:15:34] I thought it was well done.
[00:15:35] Yeah.
[00:15:35] I think, I think the bow that they tie at the end, the way that they like tied the
[00:15:40] bow at the end, it made it, it made it comfortable and it made it, it made it make a lot of sense.
[00:15:47] Yeah.
[00:15:47] Um, I do want to spoiler alert for, you know, the, the, the overall review of the series.
[00:15:54] I want to go back and rewatch it knowing what I know now.
[00:15:57] It feels like that type of show where you watch it through once you get all the surprises
[00:16:01] and then you go back and rewatch it and you go, Oh yeah, that was that there was Agatha
[00:16:07] all along.
[00:16:08] There's, um, yeah, to your point, I think it was the ringer, which had a theory kind of
[00:16:14] around this episode, Joanna Robinson, um, and others like as to, and we'll kind of get
[00:16:21] to it in a minute, but like if you, and basically going back, rewatching it, you'll
[00:16:24] be like, Oh yeah, this is so obvious.
[00:16:27] Why didn't I see it?
[00:16:28] Right?
[00:16:29] One hundred percent.
[00:16:30] One hundred percent.
[00:16:31] So, so yeah, Agatha and Billy continue on the road before coming across a castle upon
[00:16:37] entering, they are garbed in the costumes of which characters from popular culture and
[00:16:42] are presented with tarot cards.
[00:16:44] I love this scene so much.
[00:16:46] So good.
[00:16:47] Yeah.
[00:16:47] It was super fun.
[00:16:48] Billy's Billy is Maleficent, uh, kind of Angelina Jolie's version of Maleficent and
[00:16:54] uh, and Agatha is your classic kind of green witch, wicked witch of the West type.
[00:17:02] Uh, very, very fun.
[00:17:04] Uh, if they don't place the proper cards in the correct sequence, swords hanging from the
[00:17:09] ceiling, start falling down.
[00:17:11] This is pretty fun.
[00:17:13] Like a pretty fun mechanic on how this one's timed.
[00:17:17] Um, flashbacks from Lilia's first lesson in divination reveal that she has been experiencing
[00:17:23] her life out of order, explaining her memory lapses and precognitive abilities, uh, which
[00:17:29] to this point throughout the series, she kind of would always just say something that seemed
[00:17:34] like a non sequitur.
[00:17:36] But throughout this episode, we actually get to piece together all those non sequiturs,
[00:17:40] which is kind of cool.
[00:17:42] Um, after falling through the mud, Lilia discovers that Rio is death, lady death, uh, AKA, uh, Miss
[00:17:52] Deadpool, AKA, AKA, Miss Thanos.
[00:17:55] Um, AKA, AKA, AKA, Miss Agatha.
[00:18:01] Uh, this is something that Agatha knew, uh, but, uh, death kind of warns Lilia that her
[00:18:10] time is coming.
[00:18:12] She awakens, uh, Lilia awakens Jen and after evading the Salem seven, they venture through
[00:18:21] the tunnels, reuniting with Agatha and Billy knowing the trial that this trial is meant for
[00:18:29] Lilia.
[00:18:30] Lilia sits down and starts placing cards in their proper order, saving them all.
[00:18:35] Also giving the, giving us some, uh, great foreshadowing in the process, uh, prompting everyone
[00:18:42] to flee through the exit, which comes in the form of a iron maiden.
[00:18:47] Um, Lilia, uh, chooses to stay behind as the Salem seven approach.
[00:18:55] And then she flips the tower card upside down, causing the entire tower to flip upside down
[00:19:03] and impales the seven as well as herself on the swords.
[00:19:08] In the last scene, a young Lilia gleefully attends her first lesson in divination.
[00:19:14] Um, so I, I really liked this episode.
[00:19:18] Patti LuPone was fantastic.
[00:19:23] Um, she was kind of Glenda the good, good witch, uh, was her costume.
[00:19:28] I couldn't really pick out exactly which witch other than maybe just like an old hag type
[00:19:33] of witch Jen was supposed to be.
[00:19:35] Um, I'll look it up.
[00:19:36] I, I had to find the photo again.
[00:19:38] Yeah.
[00:19:40] Um, but maybe like snow white, uh, I think so.
[00:19:49] Yeah.
[00:19:49] That would, it, it kind of looked like the, the old version of snow whites, which, um, but
[00:19:57] yeah, I, I really, really liked this episode and something that hit me was if you actually
[00:20:04] look at the exits, I think it's the exits in every trial.
[00:20:08] I don't remember specifically what the exits were in the song trial or in the eighties trial,
[00:20:15] but I know for sure that in the first trial they had to go through an oven.
[00:20:20] And then in this trial they had to go through an iron maiden, both of which symbolize like
[00:20:28] methods of torture or methods of death for witches.
[00:20:33] Right.
[00:20:33] So oven being, um, you know, fire burning at the stake, that kind of thing.
[00:20:40] And then witches were also subject to the iron maiden, uh, in medieval times.
[00:20:46] And so it was kind of interesting that that, that, you know, to exit each trial, you essentially
[00:20:51] had to go through something that was used to kill witches at some point.
[00:20:55] Right.
[00:20:55] The end to confirm, I just looked up.
[00:20:57] Thank you.
[00:20:58] Reddit.
[00:20:58] Jen is the evil queen from snow white.
[00:21:01] Gotcha.
[00:21:01] Yep.
[00:21:02] Yep.
[00:21:02] So, um, what would have been fun?
[00:21:05] And I thought Agatha was a great, great wicked witch of the West.
[00:21:09] She was so good.
[00:21:10] Oh my God.
[00:21:11] So great.
[00:21:13] And, and we got our death.
[00:21:14] I mean, this was, this was actually probably one of the more, it was broadcast when you
[00:21:21] look back at it.
[00:21:22] Like, so that, that day, cause I didn't get to watch this episode right when it released.
[00:21:28] I had to watch it like a day later.
[00:21:30] Um, and I was on Facebook and I saw somebody say, or it said something about like Rio's
[00:21:36] character revealed or something like that.
[00:21:39] So I was like, oh great.
[00:21:41] I don't, I didn't actually see that it was death.
[00:21:44] Um, but then I'm like watching the episode and it all came together.
[00:21:51] I was like, oh, she's looking for bodies.
[00:21:54] She's the original green witch.
[00:21:56] She like, okay, this now every single piece of this all the way down clicks.
[00:22:02] And I, and, and before she was even announced his death, I was like, aha.
[00:22:08] Yep.
[00:22:09] Yeah.
[00:22:09] Um, so yeah, this is, this is the episode I most want to rewatch because you, even if
[00:22:15] you think about the symbolism of the witches, right?
[00:22:19] Um, Agatha is the wicked witch of the West.
[00:22:21] She wants power, right?
[00:22:23] In the, in, um, Wizard of Oz, not to spoil the Wizard of Oz.
[00:22:27] Um, Lillia is like Glinda.
[00:22:29] She's the good witch.
[00:22:30] She's trying to help the group and invite, you know, with, with advice on the journey down
[00:22:35] the road, although in our geek made that Linda, that Glinda is actually the evilest character
[00:22:42] in Wizard of Oz.
[00:22:43] Uh, but I will leave that aside.
[00:22:44] So, so that part, and then, you know, seeing death, seeing it all come together, like,
[00:22:49] oh, okay, this is how they're going to land this plane.
[00:22:51] It was great.
[00:22:52] Yeah.
[00:22:54] Yeah.
[00:22:54] So, um, and the, and I guess I was wrong, uh, this episode and the next episode, both
[00:23:00] still kind of keep up with that, like thriller.
[00:23:03] Um, yeah, yeah.
[00:23:07] Thriller slash horror movie parody.
[00:23:09] This one was kind of, uh, uh, you know, classic monster movie in some ways.
[00:23:15] I felt like, uh, totally the, uh, that leads us to episode eight.
[00:23:22] Follow me, my friend to glory at the end.
[00:23:26] Again, a direct, uh, directed by Ganja Montiero, who did, uh, episode six.
[00:23:31] She did episode eight, or they did episode eight to episode nine written by Peter Cameron.
[00:23:38] So Rio, after guiding Alice's spirit to the afterlife, she meets with Agatha and agrees
[00:23:46] to leave Agatha alone in exchange for Billy, who has disrupted the cosmic balance by gaining
[00:23:53] a second life.
[00:23:55] Billy and Jen rejoin Agatha at the end of the road for discovering that it's a circle.
[00:24:02] Shades of Thor Ragnarok.
[00:24:05] And anyway, freaky circle.
[00:24:07] It's a freaky circle.
[00:24:09] Piss off ghost.
[00:24:14] So good.
[00:24:16] Billy, uh, put the shoes back on.
[00:24:19] And then the three, this part was a little bit unclear to me when I first watched it,
[00:24:23] but they're transported into a version of Agatha's basement, which looks way different with weird,
[00:24:31] like grow lights that start to go out.
[00:24:35] But it was, maybe you caught it, you know, as to the symbolism that Jen learns that Agatha
[00:24:41] is the one who bound her magic.
[00:24:42] And then she performs her unbinding ritual, like using her hair and regaining her abilities.
[00:24:47] And then she vanishes, you know, bails out because she got what she wanted from the road.
[00:24:52] Right.
[00:24:53] Agatha helps Billy locate Tommy's soul and Billy places it in the body of a drowning boy.
[00:25:00] And it's just, just a heartbreaking, just a really tough scene of a, of a bullied kid
[00:25:08] at a swim pool being pushed in passing away.
[00:25:11] We don't see, we never see Tommy in the show, but, um, right.
[00:25:15] Pretty soon we will see him sometime.
[00:25:17] Now we know he's out there.
[00:25:18] Now we know he's out there.
[00:25:19] Young Avengers style.
[00:25:21] Yep.
[00:25:21] Billy also vanishes and with a seed from her locket, she grows a flower within the floor
[00:25:26] crack, completing the trial.
[00:25:28] She escapes into her backyard and that's where we get the big fight.
[00:25:32] Rio attacks her.
[00:25:33] Billy intervenes, gives Agatha some of his power.
[00:25:37] I have no idea why, but, uh, and then Rio orders them to choose who grows with her.
[00:25:42] Agatha is kind of hesitant first, but then kisses Rio, kiss of death.
[00:25:48] And she passes away.
[00:25:50] Rio leaves, Billy returns home.
[00:25:51] And upon entering his bedroom, he realizes that many of the objects in it match aspects
[00:25:57] of the road.
[00:25:57] And here's Agatha laughing behind.
[00:26:01] This was such a good finale episode.
[00:26:04] Yeah.
[00:26:07] Like, right.
[00:26:08] Yeah.
[00:26:09] This episode was really, really good.
[00:26:11] I love that there was the X-Men logo on Billy's costume at the end.
[00:26:16] Like Billy comes in, in full Wiccan regalia, like total, like super suit type of thing with
[00:26:23] like embroidered circles around X's on his sleeve.
[00:26:28] And, um, yeah, I want to, um, I watched one video of the costume designer was talking about
[00:26:36] like Wiccan's look and like, you could see a real closeup of the design in the costume,
[00:26:44] which you can't see when you're watching the show.
[00:26:45] You just can't see it.
[00:26:46] I'm going to look for it.
[00:26:47] I'll find it.
[00:26:47] I'll, I'll maybe we can share out in the, uh, in the notes.
[00:26:50] Cause it was really, um, it's interesting to see.
[00:26:52] And it's like a detail that you, you kind of blink and you miss it, you know?
[00:26:58] Um, but yeah, I, I mean, I thought this was a really good, I joke about this being a finale
[00:27:04] and I'll, I'll get to that here in a second, but, um, really ultimately this, this was very,
[00:27:12] very good.
[00:27:12] Uh, and I, I really enjoyed this last episode.
[00:27:19] It tied everything up really well.
[00:27:21] Um, and it, it was, it was,
[00:27:27] it was like you said, heartbreaking at times, um, particularly around Tommy's, uh, resurrection
[00:27:34] and seeing Tommy essentially resurrect without actually seeing him resurrect.
[00:27:40] Mm-hmm.
[00:27:41] Um, the hopelessness that was kind of Agatha early on and, and watching her get completely
[00:27:48] broken down was really impressive.
[00:27:52] Um, I really liked during the fight that there was kind of this, oh, come on, not again.
[00:27:56] And kept cutting to different neighbors like Herb and, uh, the, the postman and stuff.
[00:28:03] They, they kind of had this like, oh, come on, which is kind of great.
[00:28:07] That was a great episode for sure.
[00:28:09] Yeah.
[00:28:10] And now on to the, uh, we had to fill out our contract.
[00:28:14] So we made the after credit scene and what should have been the last scene of the finale
[00:28:21] episode into their own episode.
[00:28:24] Mother Maiden Crow.
[00:28:26] Um, again, directed by, uh, Ganja Montanero, uh, Jack Schaefer and Laura Donnie on the writing
[00:28:38] credits there.
[00:28:39] So we flashback to 1750.
[00:28:42] Agatha gives birth to Nicholas Scratch.
[00:28:45] Death appears to take the baby, but then Agatha please, uh, please with death to be able to
[00:28:55] keep the baby, uh, death relents warning that she, that she will eventually have to take
[00:29:01] him.
[00:29:03] Agatha spends the next six years raising her son while killing witches, uh, which Nicholas
[00:29:09] eventually grows to oppose this practice of, of killing witches.
[00:29:14] Together they create a children's song that would become the ballad of the witch's road
[00:29:19] and take on a life of its own.
[00:29:21] Agatha continued to kind of promise people, uh, the, the road.
[00:29:28] Eventually Nicholas grows sick and death takes him.
[00:29:32] This just wrecks Agatha, uh, with nothing left holding her back.
[00:29:38] Agatha spends centuries murdering witches, stealing their powers by conning them with the
[00:29:44] promise of the road.
[00:29:46] In the present, Agatha is now a ghost and she tells Billy that she, uh, that he made the
[00:29:56] previously non-existent road, a reality with his magic.
[00:30:02] Shades of witches completely.
[00:30:06] Yeah.
[00:30:06] Same thing.
[00:30:07] Reality bending, right?
[00:30:09] Billy blames himself for the deaths of Lilia, Alice, and Sharon, but Agatha retorts that she
[00:30:15] was already planning to kill them and that Jen is still alive.
[00:30:19] Billy returns to Westview and tries to banish Agatha.
[00:30:23] She resists, afraid of having to face Nicholas in the afterlife.
[00:30:27] Billy relents and allows Agatha to guide him.
[00:30:30] After sealing the entrance to the road and recording the names of the fallen, kind of in a grave style,
[00:30:39] Billy and Agatha set out to find Tommy.
[00:30:43] So yeah, um, Jack Schaefer has actually been, she was interviewed about this episode and she
[00:30:49] explained that essentially the flashbacks, the like, the, the back in time look of, of Agatha
[00:30:57] through the ages was more of a, they, the way that they thought of it when writing it was
[00:31:04] more similar to a after credit scene that we're very used to in, in Marvel.
[00:31:13] Um, and that the, you know, obviously then finding out that Billy bore, made the road
[00:31:23] a reality created that obviously that all had to come after you found out about the after
[00:31:30] or after you found out about the like falsehood that is the witch's road.
[00:31:36] It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if we were going forward thinking the witch's road
[00:31:39] was real.
[00:31:41] Um, and so yeah, the, those kind of had to come together.
[00:31:45] Um, I was talking in, in discord about this episode with, um, uh, someone and, um, one
[00:31:57] of the things that I, I said is like, I felt like this should have been an after credit scene
[00:32:01] and then the, the stuff about Billy creating the road could have been like just the end
[00:32:08] of the eighth episode.
[00:32:10] And you just have like an hour, hour and a half, you know, long episode or two hour long
[00:32:15] episode for that last episode, just a really supersized episode.
[00:32:21] Um, which they kind of did on the same day.
[00:32:25] I was going to say, yeah, because they released them both on the same day.
[00:32:27] So it wasn't like this like stilted approach, which I think was really smart to do.
[00:32:34] Yeah.
[00:32:34] Right.
[00:32:34] It would have been awful if the day before Halloween, you watch episode eight, you're
[00:32:39] like, Oh man, that was so good.
[00:32:41] What's left next week.
[00:32:43] What are we going to celebrate on Canadian Thanksgiving?
[00:32:45] Oh, let's watch the latest episode.
[00:32:49] Um, a lot of times these Marvel shows like lead up to the penultimate and you're like, dude,
[00:32:57] there's so much to wrap up and you're just, and I felt like you like episode eight, I was
[00:33:02] like, Oh, okay.
[00:33:03] This feels kind of wrapped.
[00:33:04] It feels pretty good.
[00:33:05] It'll be interesting to have to do a nine and nine.
[00:33:08] And I thought did a good job of, um, human, not quite the word I'm looking for, but humanizing
[00:33:16] Wanda.
[00:33:17] You kind of, I don't know Wanda, um, Agatha, Agatha.
[00:33:20] And you kind of understand her experiences and journey.
[00:33:24] The, which is kind of funny if you think about it, because she is probably the worst character
[00:33:30] that you root for that you actually like, like Loki is Loki as bad as her.
[00:33:37] You know what I mean?
[00:33:38] Like, Oh yeah.
[00:33:40] I, she, she's terrible.
[00:33:42] She's, she's awful.
[00:33:43] Hawful person.
[00:33:44] Yeah.
[00:33:45] Right.
[00:33:46] Yeah.
[00:33:46] Um, and I, yeah, I think, uh, by the way, to finish my thought that I, I did not let
[00:33:53] myself finish.
[00:33:54] I think that they had to fill out the, the nine episode order.
[00:33:57] I think they were ordered nine in contract.
[00:34:00] And so that's why they didn't release it as like one succinct two hour episode.
[00:34:06] They just, uh, released it in two, but sorry, that was a thought that I did not finish.
[00:34:10] But, um, but yeah, I, I agree.
[00:34:13] I think character wise, Agatha is like, yeah, probably the worst that you root for.
[00:34:23] Maybe, you know, there's people out there that root for Thanos, but.
[00:34:29] It's hard.
[00:34:30] It's tough to, it's tough to find someone as objectively dislikable, but at the same time
[00:34:38] charismatic and interesting.
[00:34:39] And like, yeah, has her own weird twisted charm, if you will.
[00:34:46] So thank you, Catherine Han.
[00:34:49] She was great.
[00:34:50] Well, the whole cast was great.
[00:34:51] I'm going to, I'm, this is one I will, um, I will look forward to rewatching and like
[00:34:55] you're saying to see all the little, you know, um, reveals and all the hints as you watch
[00:35:00] it.
[00:35:00] Yeah.
[00:35:01] The reception for it was pretty good.
[00:35:03] Rotten critic, Rotten Tomato Critics has it at 83%.
[00:35:07] So same as Ant-Man, same as Black Panther, Rotten Forever, just ahead of guards of the
[00:35:13] Galaxy three.
[00:35:14] So pretty well done.
[00:35:15] So, you know, we were saw some rough times in Marvel in like 2022, 2023 and feel like this
[00:35:23] is a nice, it's a pretty good uptick.
[00:35:25] I think.
[00:35:26] Yeah.
[00:35:26] 2024 has been a solid year.
[00:35:28] We've had, we've had this, we've had Deadpool and Wolverine, you know, bad web.
[00:35:35] Yep.
[00:35:35] Totally.
[00:35:36] Um, I also do want to call out one other thing that was unique and started with this,
[00:35:42] with this series.
[00:35:43] Um, the, the kind of intro card that we're used to seeing where it says Marvel studios.
[00:35:50] Uh, we noticed in the animation projects last year started saying Marvel animation.
[00:35:56] And then in this one, it actually says Marvel television.
[00:36:00] Then this is the first project to have that Marvel television card.
[00:36:04] Um, which is kind of interesting the way that they're, they're lining that up.
[00:36:08] Um, I, I, you know, it was one of those things where like the first time I turned this on,
[00:36:13] I was like, that's different.
[00:36:15] Interesting.
[00:36:15] It's also kind of weird to me just because like the concept of television, like it implies
[00:36:23] network and cable.
[00:36:25] And yeah, it's there like Marvel streaming or something.
[00:36:28] Yeah.
[00:36:28] I mean, half Marvel media or whatever.
[00:36:31] Cause like, let's be honest, at least a third of people watching on an iPad or a phone.
[00:36:36] Yeah.
[00:36:37] Or tab, you know what I mean?
[00:36:38] Like laptop.
[00:36:39] No, that's fair.
[00:36:40] That is fair.
[00:36:41] Seems weird, but whatever.
[00:36:42] Yeah.
[00:36:44] Well, uh, let me see here.
[00:36:46] Let's see.
[00:36:47] I think there is a visitor from the future that needs to talk to us here.
[00:36:52] Thanks for visiting the TVA.
[00:36:55] All right.
[00:36:56] Welcome back everybody who, uh, jumped forward to avoid our Agatha spoilers.
[00:37:03] We will avoid those going forward.
[00:37:06] David, do you want to kick off our current projects?
[00:37:10] Can an update on where we are with some stuff that's been released this year?
[00:37:14] Sure.
[00:37:15] So let's talk about Barbie.
[00:37:18] No, I'm kidding.
[00:37:18] Uh, 2024 Deadpool and Wolverine has made to date $1.338 billion, $636 million domestically.
[00:37:31] Um, it's done very well at the box office.
[00:37:35] I think it is now out of the box office because it is now on Disney plus.
[00:37:38] Yep.
[00:37:39] As of recording, it released on Disney plus yesterday as of release about a week ago.
[00:37:45] Um, but yeah, you can go check it out on Disney plus.
[00:37:48] I can confirm that because I watched the first five minutes already.
[00:37:52] I watched it last night.
[00:37:54] I, it was kind of one of those jokes where I bought the digital version.
[00:37:58] I never watched it.
[00:38:00] What?
[00:38:01] I, I just, I bought it.
[00:38:03] Like I bought the digital version when it first released like a couple months ago.
[00:38:06] And then I was, I just never had time to watch it.
[00:38:09] I can't watch it in front of Ted because he's in full mimic mode.
[00:38:12] And, uh, I would turn into Wolverine.
[00:38:16] Yeah.
[00:38:17] Cute puppy.
[00:38:18] Come on, man.
[00:38:19] Um, this is the movie right now is ranked, um, by accounts behind right ahead of black Panther for the, um, number six in terms of revenue, right behind Avengers age of Ultron.
[00:38:37] Um, uh, yeah, unless it gets re-released, it'll slot in at the number six slot.
[00:38:42] Yeah.
[00:38:43] Yeah.
[00:38:43] It's pretty much done making money, which does leave us with an update needed on our wager.
[00:38:51] Um, so since, since last we spoke, David, uh, Venom, the last dance came out.
[00:38:57] It has outperformed, uh, the guests that I had for it, right?
[00:39:02] I put it down at a quarter of a billion dollars.
[00:39:04] I, I guess that it would make, uh, 250 million dollars.
[00:39:09] That's kind of, that was my baseline guess of what I thought that both Venom and Craven would do for you.
[00:39:16] Um, it has outpaced that.
[00:39:17] So good on it.
[00:39:19] It's at, uh, almost $400 million right now.
[00:39:23] Uh, Venom is, um, Craven has not released yet.
[00:39:29] Craven will release.
[00:39:30] I believe that is in December.
[00:39:32] If memory serves right around Christmas.
[00:39:34] Yep.
[00:39:34] Yep.
[00:39:35] Um, and so as of today, as of recording, uh, on the 13th of November, um, you currently need Craven the Hunter.
[00:39:51] So I, I have that 1.338 billion dollars of Deadpool and Wolverine.
[00:39:59] Oh, I guess I should explain the bet for anybody who this is a first time listening.
[00:40:03] Cause it could be somebody's first time listening every episode.
[00:40:05] Uh, real quick.
[00:40:06] We did a bet early in the year, uh, kind of our projections originally was based around the idea that there was going to be a Spider-Verse movie coming out this year.
[00:40:15] And so the bet was Deadpool versus, uh, any two of the best Sony movies.
[00:40:25] Since then we have done some adjustments.
[00:40:28] So after Madam Web flopped, after Spider-Verse moved out of 2024, uh, we said, okay, cool.
[00:40:39] Take, uh, or I said, okay, cool.
[00:40:41] David, you take all this, all the Sony releases added together, right?
[00:40:47] All the Sony Marvel partnership releases.
[00:40:49] You can have them, you can have their, their box office.
[00:40:53] Um, and then with Deadpool, we actually did a little bit of like, uh, uh, try and predict what would happen.
[00:41:01] And David did better at that than I did.
[00:41:03] So David also gets the benefit of the top performing Sony product of the year, which right now is bad boys ride or die, which is adding, uh, $404 million to his total.
[00:41:19] Uh, so as of recording, David needs Craven, the Hunter, some combination of Venom, the last dance and Craven, the Hunter to do, uh, $438 million at the box office.
[00:41:37] Um, okay.
[00:41:40] So going forward.
[00:41:41] So, um, this is all subject to, um, an audit by my accountants.
[00:41:48] Um, I note that the box office for bad boys ride or die is down at $405 million.
[00:41:55] So I don't know.
[00:41:55] Kind of picked up a million financial chicanery you might've done in terms of numbers.
[00:42:01] Um, but it'll all be audited and we'll send it to Deloitte.
[00:42:04] We'll find out in a couple of years.
[00:42:05] Um, yeah, so we'll see, we'll see.
[00:42:08] Well, yeah, yeah.
[00:42:09] The pity bet of like, Hey, you can have the most anticipated MCU movie in like four years.
[00:42:15] And I'm like, can you get all these crappy Sony movies?
[00:42:19] Which I, I, which I gave you, I gave it, I gave you the choice.
[00:42:22] Right.
[00:42:22] Had, had Spider-Verse come out.
[00:42:24] I think you would have had a chance without any of the excess.
[00:42:28] That's good.
[00:42:28] We'll, we'll apply it retroactively.
[00:42:30] It's fine.
[00:42:30] Well, it doesn't matter.
[00:42:31] Cause it's not coming out until like 2026.
[00:42:32] Yeah.
[00:42:33] You don't, yeah, but in all this is, so at the end of each, uh, essentially once per year
[00:42:42] from here on out, we're going to do some sort of, uh, dealer's choice movie to give us kind
[00:42:47] of a palate cleanser, um, and, and keep our shop, our chops sharp.
[00:42:52] Uh, so we're not just, we're not just doing Marvel stuff over and over and over again.
[00:42:58] Um, we decided that, you know, once per year we'll, we'll jump over and we'll do something
[00:43:02] else.
[00:43:02] And whoever wins the bet each year gets to, gets to, uh, choose that movie for the year.
[00:43:10] So, um, this year it'll be after the saga break.
[00:43:15] So we'll do, uh, so we have end game coming up.
[00:43:20] We'll do Spider-Man after that.
[00:43:22] And then we will do, uh, a phase review, a saga review, and then dealer's choice.
[00:43:30] So that dealer's choice, you guys should be hearing it.
[00:43:34] If my math is correct, I think that'll be in April of next year that you'll hear that
[00:43:42] dealer's choice.
[00:43:42] We'll also be doing a millennium review of all the comic movies ever made.
[00:43:49] So bring, be there, bring your mural.
[00:43:51] It's going to be a ride.
[00:43:53] So I don't think, um, I didn't have the flush on.
[00:43:56] That's okay.
[00:43:56] I snuck it in there.
[00:43:57] I do think, um, four and three, eight million for Craven's a lot.
[00:44:03] Um, the venom, I think I can't, I could see venom still picking up about a hundred
[00:44:10] million.
[00:44:11] Nah, that's not gonna make that much.
[00:44:12] It's like down to like, it's the first two weeks.
[00:44:15] And after that, it's, it's a nose time.
[00:44:16] Although I will say that it's, um, it's legs on the set.
[00:44:20] Like first week, it like was very disappointing.
[00:44:23] And the legs to the second week were pretty good.
[00:44:27] Legs being like the percentage.
[00:44:28] Yeah.
[00:44:29] Like you want to try to, you're going to lose revenue, but if you don't want to go
[00:44:32] from like, you make X amount the next week, you make 4% of that.
[00:44:36] You want to, they had a pretty good run.
[00:44:40] Yeah.
[00:44:40] Um, and that could be for a number of different reasons because something else
[00:44:44] came out at the same time or the week before, and you didn't see it the first
[00:44:46] week.
[00:44:48] It's going to be, it's going to be an uphill climb.
[00:44:51] I'm just bracing myself for Tokyo drift.
[00:44:53] It's fine.
[00:44:55] It's fine.
[00:44:56] Whatever.
[00:44:56] Cool.
[00:44:56] Bring it on.
[00:44:57] Um, so another, uh, current project, we actually missed this map last month.
[00:45:04] The trailer for this had come out.
[00:45:05] Um, I don't think the actual movie had been released yet, but, um, Disney has
[00:45:12] started to do these partnerships with, uh, Lego and, and producing kind of Lego
[00:45:20] ish or Lego movies.
[00:45:22] Uh, so they're like, um, they're, they're animated movies that look like it's all
[00:45:30] done with, with the Legos.
[00:45:33] Um, they have several of these in the star Wars vein, and then they did one last
[00:45:40] year in the Marvel vein.
[00:45:42] I think it's called code red this year.
[00:45:45] Uh, they just released another one.
[00:45:47] This time it is called Lego Marvel's Avengers mission demolition.
[00:45:52] Um, I watched it, uh, with my son.
[00:45:56] It was super duper fun.
[00:45:58] Uh, it was about 45 minutes long.
[00:46:00] So not, not terribly long, kind of a fun little, you know, you don't even, I
[00:46:04] wouldn't even say sit down and watch it.
[00:46:06] I think I did the dishes while Ted watched it.
[00:46:08] Um, lots of little Easter eggs, very much like a very good marriage of like
[00:46:16] what, you know, from the comics and things that come in from the comics as
[00:46:20] well as things from the movies and references to the movies and TV shows.
[00:46:26] Uh, so it was really, really fun, really, really silly.
[00:46:29] Um, kind of, uh, based around the organization damage control.
[00:46:35] Uh, so for, if you're not aware damage control is kind of the organization in
[00:46:41] the comics that comes in and cleans up after every Avengers fight.
[00:46:44] So lots, very, very silly.
[00:46:48] Uh, the, the big, big bad in it is Tarex who we haven't seen in the MCU, but
[00:46:56] you know, he, he makes frequent appearances in the comics as a villain and all
[00:47:02] kinds of Avengers in it.
[00:47:04] Um, there's a ton of big name voice actors that are in this.
[00:47:11] I, I won't even go through them all.
[00:47:13] Uh, but I do want to highlight some of the people that you might recognize for
[00:47:16] their not voice acting roles that were in this.
[00:47:20] So the main big bad was, was, uh, voiced by Kevin Smith of clerks fame, uh,
[00:47:28] mall rats, all that kind of stuff.
[00:47:30] Uh, John Stamos was actually Iron Man.
[00:47:34] He voiced Iron Man.
[00:47:35] So it was kind of fun.
[00:47:36] Uh, Jason Manzoukas was, well, you know what, actually, I'm not going to tell you who he
[00:47:42] was cause it's an, it's a nice little surprise, uh, that I got a good chuckle out of.
[00:47:47] I love Jason Manzoukas.
[00:47:48] He's the best.
[00:47:50] Yeah.
[00:47:50] Yeah.
[00:47:50] And his role in this is, is perfect.
[00:47:54] I have an idea of like a Rafi inspired character.
[00:47:59] Great.
[00:48:00] Yeah.
[00:48:01] Uh, Tom Brady showed up as himself and voiced himself.
[00:48:06] Of course.
[00:48:06] Why not?
[00:48:07] Uh, and then Tiffany Thiessen, uh, for those of you who are, you know, nineties kids or
[00:48:14] eighties and nineties kids, you might recognize that name as somebody you may have had a crush
[00:48:18] on.
[00:48:19] Uh, she voiced She-Hulk in this one.
[00:48:24] Um, so yeah, really fun, silly little thing.
[00:48:28] I would say, you know, pop it on when you, when you're on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
[00:48:34] Um, and check it out.
[00:48:37] It's fun.
[00:48:38] It's silly.
[00:48:39] It's got lots of little references for you to grab onto lots of things to laugh at.
[00:48:44] It's a good time.
[00:48:45] So that really does it for our, uh, for kind of the current projects.
[00:48:52] I did want to get started on some things that weren't necessarily movies, weren't necessarily
[00:48:56] TV shows.
[00:48:58] Marvel is a pretty big empire, obviously.
[00:49:00] And so I wanted to talk about a few things that came up, uh, you know, this last month
[00:49:08] in some other realms.
[00:49:10] So there was New York Comic-Con.
[00:49:12] The news was largely comics based.
[00:49:15] However, one thing I did want to mention from, uh, New York Comic-Con is that they did announce
[00:49:20] that Spider-Man two, the video game Spider-Man two is coming to PC.
[00:49:25] So those of you who aren't PlayStation players, uh, but you do have a gaming PC, this one should
[00:49:31] be coming to you soon.
[00:49:33] Those games are really, really fun.
[00:49:34] I have Spider-Man two.
[00:49:37] I've not played it yet because infamously, uh, my son is in a mimicking stage and my wife
[00:49:47] told me she did not like being the target of Spider-Man.
[00:49:50] So, uh, yeah.
[00:49:56] Uh, but, but yeah.
[00:49:58] Um, so if you've been, if you've been, you know, not wanting to go pick up a PlayStation
[00:50:04] five to be able to play, uh, Spider-Man two, but you have a gaming PC, go check that one
[00:50:10] out.
[00:50:12] Moving on to some comic book news.
[00:50:15] Uh, so Marvel just announced a new, uh, comic book series based around the TVA, which is
[00:50:23] kind of exciting.
[00:50:24] Um, it's, it's kind of cool.
[00:50:26] It's very influenced by what's popular in, uh, the movies and TV shows.
[00:50:33] I'm not going to lie, but this is, uh, due out in physical form, uh, December 18th of 2024.
[00:50:43] And so next month and then, uh, Marvel unlimited, which is their kind of like subscription service
[00:50:51] lags behind by 90 days.
[00:50:53] So essentially from physical release to Marvel unlimited releases, typically about 90 days,
[00:51:00] uh, delays.
[00:51:01] So, uh, it'll be out on unlimited sometime in March.
[00:51:05] How much does it set a curious, how much does unlimited cost?
[00:51:07] That is a really good question that I do not have in front of me.
[00:51:11] I bought like a year at a super discounted price.
[00:51:14] I would say, actually, I'm glad you asked.
[00:51:18] Keep an eye out.
[00:51:19] If you are interested in unlimited, keep an eye out on black Friday.
[00:51:23] I think the last two years they've run like half price for a year or something, um, on
[00:51:29] black Friday.
[00:51:30] So really good deals on black Friday for Marvel unlimited that, uh, you can get in and kind
[00:51:36] of get set up with, with the ability to read at least, you know, not, not the newest comics,
[00:51:42] but, uh, back issues are all there as well as, you know, like I say, if you can deal
[00:51:49] with a three month delay, um, definitely you can do that.
[00:51:54] If, if you can't deal with the three month delay, or if you like the collecting aspects,
[00:51:58] go support your friendly lake, your friendly neighborhood, uh, comic book store.
[00:52:03] Um, you know, obviously they, they, uh, you, you have probably noticed a lot of your comic
[00:52:11] book stores have become game stores.
[00:52:13] Um, and that is because of things like Marvel unlimited.
[00:52:16] Um, that's not to say I don't use Marvel unlimited.
[00:52:19] I do, but, uh, yeah.
[00:52:22] Looks like it's a 70 bucks for the year, 70 bucks, a hundred bucks for Marvel unlimited plus,
[00:52:30] which I think gets you usually like, uh, some sort of memorabilia sign up or something
[00:52:34] like that.
[00:52:35] Um, but even if you're not, you know, even if you're not going to read the current titles
[00:52:40] or if you're going to let them stack up just for the back catalog.
[00:52:44] Yeah.
[00:52:45] So, yeah, yeah.
[00:52:47] Especially as we get into the next couple of phases, I'm going to make a concerted effort
[00:52:51] to really talk about the issues that influence, um, the movies.
[00:52:56] So as we get into the next few phases, you know, if, if you go and you listen to our main
[00:53:01] show and you're like, I'd like to read that, this is a great way to do it.
[00:53:04] Um, without having to go out and buy $70 omnibuses every single time we mentioned something.
[00:53:12] Um, so yeah, the TVA comic, the time variance authority, uh, has long watched over the timeline,
[00:53:18] protecting it from dangerous variations that could cause the end of everything.
[00:53:23] Now, as the organization begins to expand its tolerance of variance, it's enlisted some new
[00:53:29] recruits from timelines that have been wiped from existence.
[00:53:32] These recruits include pack captain Peggy Carter, uh, super soldier from her world Gambit,
[00:53:39] uh, a despondent and aimless from the loss of his lady love and spider Gwen.
[00:53:47] But wait, her world wasn't destroyed or was it?
[00:53:51] Uh, so it's also going to include, I saw in the, the preview OB and Morby or, uh, not Morbius,
[00:54:00] uh, Mobius.
[00:54:02] Mobius.
[00:54:03] Uh, will also show up, uh, which is pretty fun.
[00:54:07] Uh, so if you, if you're into that kind of multiversal stuff and this, this would probably
[00:54:13] be a comic that I think as a, somebody who watches the TV shows, watch the movies, you
[00:54:20] were talking about like musician Moby was going to show up.
[00:54:26] Kind of like that idea.
[00:54:28] That'd be hilarious.
[00:54:29] Yeah.
[00:54:30] I think I saw Sylvie was in it as well.
[00:54:32] So again, yeah, it's, it's, it's kind of all those favorite characters that like showed
[00:54:37] up in the movies or TV, but, but don't get a whole lot of time.
[00:54:41] That's cool.
[00:54:42] Yeah.
[00:54:44] Yeah.
[00:54:44] Um, and then I did also want to start a segment with this month that is looking at Marvel
[00:54:51] unlimited, looking at the number ones that have come out on the service since the last
[00:54:58] time we released a monthly view bowl.
[00:55:00] So these are going to be great places for you to hop in.
[00:55:05] If you are like, Hey, I want to get into comics or, Hey, I want to get my kid into comics.
[00:55:09] These are going to be really great ways for you to just jump straight into these comic,
[00:55:15] into the comic books.
[00:55:17] And, you know, these are, these are good entry points, uh, for, for without needing a whole
[00:55:24] lot of background.
[00:55:25] Um, so, uh, I'm going to kind of go through chronologically when they were released.
[00:55:31] I'm also not covering every single one.
[00:55:34] Number one that has been released.
[00:55:35] I'm kind of covering a couple highlights per week.
[00:55:39] So week of, uh, October 14th, uh, X-Men number one.
[00:55:45] So the X-Men just got done with the Krakoa era, which was an era of comics from 2019 to 2024,
[00:55:55] where basically all the mutants were living off on this living Island that, and had created a,
[00:56:02] um, uh, sovereign nation of mutants.
[00:56:07] They were all invulnerable because of some reanimation stuff, whatever that's all done.
[00:56:12] And we are now in an era called from the ashes.
[00:56:16] So kind of restarting, rebuilding, uh, various X-Men stories.
[00:56:22] Um, Cyclops is leading because that's what he does.
[00:56:27] Beast builds because that's what he does.
[00:56:30] Um, and they have found a new home in Alaska.
[00:56:35] Uh, so, um, Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Kid Omega, Temper, Magic, and Juggernaut.
[00:56:45] Um, basically are the new X-Men team.
[00:56:49] Uh, they're battling for destiny and philosophy and the philosophy of the mutant species.
[00:56:55] So it's X-Men.
[00:56:58] Um, definitely go check that out if you're into, if you've, you know, seen the X-Men movies
[00:57:03] and you like them, go check it out.
[00:57:05] Uh, for our Star Wars fans, they are starting Ahsoka number one.
[00:57:09] Um, it looks like, I, I have not read this, but when I read the description of it on Marvel,
[00:57:16] it's the Ahsoka TV series done in comic book form.
[00:57:20] Um, which generally when they do that, much like the novelizations of the, of the movies,
[00:57:27] there is some added detail that maybe was missed in the, the TV show.
[00:57:32] So if you liked the Ahsoka TV show, this is, uh, a good way to maybe get some more details
[00:57:38] behind it, uh, or some things that, that maybe, you know, they, they weren't able to show
[00:57:43] on the TV show.
[00:57:45] Also, uh, October 14th, one last, well, this one actually released on the 17th.
[00:57:51] Typically comics come out on Tuesdays.
[00:57:53] So I believe the 14th would have been a Tuesday.
[00:57:57] Um, but, um, there is a specific type of comic called an infinity comic, which is unique to
[00:58:05] Marvel unlimited.
[00:58:06] It is optimized for like reading through an app.
[00:58:10] So it's not like just the comics scanned in.
[00:58:14] It's actually like designed for reading through the app.
[00:58:17] It doesn't necessarily move or anything like that, but the way it scrolls and everything
[00:58:21] is, is set up.
[00:58:23] It is illustrated to read on an app.
[00:58:26] Um, so they did introduce some new infinity comics.
[00:58:30] Uh, one of those being astonishing Spider-Man infinity.
[00:58:34] Uh, it's a, it's a Spider-Man story.
[00:58:39] Um, Spider-Man's life is about to run in the, the, the description on Marvel is so, so good.
[00:58:46] Spider-Man's life is about to run into some serious trouble.
[00:58:49] And that all starts with a bang.
[00:58:54] Uh, but, uh, yeah, definitely.
[00:58:57] I would say, um, probably, especially for kids, this would be like the infinity comics
[00:59:02] would be great.
[00:59:03] It again, optimized towards reading on a screen on, on an app, which is, you know, definitely
[00:59:09] a, I've tried to read through some of these infinity comics.
[00:59:12] They don't work with my brain necessarily, but I could see where they, they would work
[00:59:15] for, for other folks.
[00:59:18] Um, October 21st, 2024.
[00:59:23] A couple of number ones to highlight here.
[00:59:25] Uh, Venom War.
[00:59:26] So the Venom symbiote has bonded with both Eddie Brock as well as his son Dylan Brock at different
[00:59:32] points.
[00:59:33] They are now going head to head, uh, to decide who is the one true Venom father versus
[00:59:39] son in a showdown of showdowns threatens to tear the world asunder.
[00:59:44] Um, this is, there are some definite heavyweights, uh, writing and illustrating on this one.
[00:59:51] Al Ewing and Yvonne Coelho.
[00:59:56] Um, basically this is, this is a big, right.
[01:00:01] So with comic books, for those who don't know, usually there's kind of some big events
[01:00:05] going on, you know, usually between one and three, um, per publisher at any given time.
[01:00:12] And Venom War is kind of the big event that's going on right now for Marvel.
[01:00:16] So, um, pretty exciting one.
[01:00:18] Uh, I will also mention real quick, a couple of number ones I won't describe too much, but
[01:00:22] Phoenix and Namor both get, um, solo books that, that also released on the 21st of, of October.
[01:00:29] Um, and then Daredevil Woman Without Fear number one, which, uh, is actually Electra as
[01:00:38] Daredevil.
[01:00:40] Um, it was also released October 21st, 2024.
[01:00:45] Uh, so it is Electra taking up the, um,
[01:00:52] Daredevil Bantle and, uh, working with Matt Murdock to defend their city and the people
[01:01:02] they love, um, as they are targeted by the most dangerous and violent elements of the
[01:01:08] Marvel universe.
[01:01:11] What's funny with some of these descriptions, like this could have been a comic book from
[01:01:15] like 40 years ago.
[01:01:16] It's like, Oh, I think I read that one.
[01:01:20] Um, uh, October 28th, a little bit of a light, light week that week, but I do want to mention
[01:01:28] this one because I think this is probably one of the more different, uh, comic books
[01:01:34] that we have, uh, that's on this list.
[01:01:37] Um, so let's see here.
[01:01:42] So, so this one is, it's called NYX.
[01:01:46] Um, this book is, so this is the Marvel description.
[01:01:49] This book isn't about X-Men.
[01:01:50] This is a book about mutants living past the end of their world and embracing a new beginning.
[01:01:55] Uh, this is Ms. Marvel embracing her mutant life on the neon streets of the Lower East Side.
[01:02:01] This is a gnoll, uh, trying to keep his head above water.
[01:02:05] This is Wolverine in the shadows of Bushwick, protecting her own.
[01:02:09] So that'd be X-23, Laura, um, Wolverine.
[01:02:13] This is Prodigy writing history as it happens.
[01:02:17] This is, uh, Sophie Cuckoo, uh, finding her own way.
[01:02:23] The news reports are bleak.
[01:02:25] The streets feel dangerous.
[01:02:27] There's something lurking underground, evil coming from every direction.
[01:02:31] But they're determined to make it.
[01:02:33] This is mutant community.
[01:02:35] This is mutant pride.
[01:02:36] This is NYX.
[01:02:38] So kind of a cool, like different, you know, X-Men has always been kind of a civil rights book.
[01:02:44] Um, and this is, you know, maybe a little bit less of the, uh, superhero team X-Men and a little bit more of the on the ground X-Men, which is kind of cool.
[01:02:55] It does sound cool.
[01:02:58] Uh, November 4th, 2024.
[01:03:01] A couple of releases here.
[01:03:02] Black Widow, Black Widow Venomous.
[01:03:05] Easy for me to say.
[01:03:07] Uh, basically, uh, it is what it says on the tin, right?
[01:03:10] So Black Widow has the Venom symbiote at this point.
[01:03:13] So Black Widow doing spy things with Venom symbiote.
[01:03:17] Uh, pretty cool, uh, kind of premise there.
[01:03:21] And cool running, um, series that will play into Venom War later on down the line.
[01:03:29] Uh, X-Force.
[01:03:31] Um, so X-Force got a number one.
[01:03:35] The world is fractured.
[01:03:36] Forge uses his powers of invention to devise the only fix.
[01:03:41] An all new, all different X-Force.
[01:03:44] Forge leads a custom-made, hand-picked, uh, team of mutants, including Rachel Summers, Betsy Braddock, Sage, Surge, and introducing Tank.
[01:03:56] In off-the-books missions, so dire, so integral to the fate of the Marvel Universe, there's no time to stop for permission.
[01:04:05] As Forge, uh, detects increasing threats across the planet, he will recruit a specialist for each target.
[01:04:12] First up, that, that regenerating degenerate Deadpool.
[01:04:15] Cool.
[01:04:16] So it's, it's X-Force.
[01:04:18] Uh, Forge is currently an Omega-level mutant because, you know, Forge, Forge does his thing where he just is like, hey, I need to think of a thing.
[01:04:26] He thought of a machine that would make him an Omega-level mutant, which is kind of crazy.
[01:04:31] Um, but, X-Force, down and dirty X-Men, right?
[01:04:36] Uh, I do want to highlight a special release that came out on November 4th, which is a What If comic.
[01:04:42] Uh, so this is What If Donald Duck Became Wolverine?
[01:04:47] Oh, good God.
[01:04:50] Um, so this was released for the 50th anniversary of Donald Duck, or sorry, the 90th anniversary of Donald Duck and the 50th anniversary of Wolverine.
[01:05:01] Uh, you have Pete Skull.
[01:05:04] So Red Skull crossed over with, uh, Pete, uh, from the, uh, Disney-Mickey universe.
[01:05:17] Um, you have Old Duck Donald.
[01:05:22] Oh no.
[01:05:24] Old Man Wolverine.
[01:05:26] Uh, you have Mickey Hawkeye.
[01:05:29] You have Goofy Hulk.
[01:05:31] I don't like this.
[01:05:32] This is making me very sad.
[01:05:35] Uh, because I don't see this in a park at some point.
[01:05:38] I guarantee you someone's going to have a t-shirt next time we go to the park that has this.
[01:05:41] Probably.
[01:05:42] Probably.
[01:05:43] Uh, so yeah, I mean, it's, it's silly.
[01:05:45] They've been doing a little bit of this.
[01:05:47] I think they did some of this with the hundred.
[01:05:49] They think they did some of this for Mickey's 90th.
[01:05:52] Um, they, they've done, they've done a few of these what ifs where, where they crossed over the Fab Five with Marvel characters.
[01:06:04] Yeah.
[01:06:05] You know, I, I had to put it on here.
[01:06:07] I think I was contractually, contractually obligated to.
[01:06:11] It's fun and goofy.
[01:06:12] Why not?
[01:06:12] Right.
[01:06:12] Oh, I did not, I did not mean to say that pun.
[01:06:16] Sorry.
[01:06:18] Um, so releasing this week as we record 11, 11, 2024 blood hunters.
[01:06:25] Uh, so this is another kind of big thing that's going on.
[01:06:28] There's kind of the blood hunt.
[01:06:30] Um, so dagger Elsa, bloodstone, white widow, hallows Eve, all working together.
[01:06:38] Um, in the aftermath of blood hunt, uh, hunting down remaining vampires, uh, including miles Morales, um, who is currently a vampire.
[01:06:53] So, um, pretty fun, you know, kind of that, that spooky side of Marvel, right?
[01:07:00] Vampires, vampire hunting.
[01:07:05] And then last one that I want to talk about.
[01:07:08] So this, these comics come out on the 18th of November, which is the day is a Monday before we release this episode.
[01:07:18] Um, so there is a Iron Fist 50th anniversary special that'll be coming to Marvel Unlimited.
[01:07:24] So kind of a collection of Iron Fists, best arcs.
[01:07:28] Uh, go check that one out, obviously, if you, if you want to check that out.
[01:07:31] And then Spider Society, it's actually a, a mini series that they're starting, uh, which is every spider character all in the same room meeting up to do things.
[01:07:44] Which is kind of fun.
[01:07:44] Um, and then X Factor, uh, which again, these are, lots of these were X stories, right?
[01:07:55] Um, but from the ashes of Krakoa, a new mutants arms race sweeps the globe.
[01:08:02] International governments are building their own mutant armies, but only America's X Factor has the most powerful, most patriotic, most marketable heroes to stem the tide and make the world safe for democracy.
[01:08:16] Join Angel Havoc, Frenzy, Feral, Pyro, and more as they go from one death defying mission to another.
[01:08:24] Uh, definitely feels like this is kind of a little bit of a sarcastic book.
[01:08:28] Um, has some of the, I think actually one of the taglines I saw was like, like comment and subscribe.
[01:08:34] So like superhero, uh, team was made up of all YouTube influencers.
[01:08:40] I was going to say sounds like a YouTube site, right?
[01:08:44] Yeah.
[01:08:45] So, so yeah, those are the comics that you can check out on Marvel unlimited.
[01:08:49] We are not sponsored by Marvel unlimited, by the way.
[01:08:51] I, I realized that that whole segment might sound like we're getting that money.
[01:08:55] Uh, I wish we were, I would take a Marvel and shoot.
[01:08:58] If they just paid for my subscription, I'd be happy.
[01:09:01] Um, but, um, but yeah, go check it out.
[01:09:07] If, if you've been thinking about getting into comics, those are some really good entry points.
[01:09:11] Obviously right now is a really good time to get, get into comics.
[01:09:14] If you are a X-Men fan, there's also a good amount of Spider-Man stuff going on.
[01:09:19] That's, that's fresh and new.
[01:09:21] Um, everything I would, I think every mainline story is like less than 20 issues in right now.
[01:09:31] So it's a really great time where even if you're not getting in on something that just came out to Marvel unlimited, you want to just look for your character like Iron Man or the Avengers or the ultimate universe kind of just restarted.
[01:09:47] There, there's a bunch of that kind of stuff that is very fresh, very new.
[01:09:52] And so I would definitely say it's a great time to go read some comics.
[01:09:57] That's cool.
[01:09:58] Yeah.
[01:09:58] The, um, there's some interesting top, you know, interesting, you know, what's funny is that, um, even over time, like the characters still remain, a lot of the characters remain the same.
[01:10:09] When you mentioned the Iron Fist number one, I was like, I think I remember when that came out.
[01:10:14] Uh, and so, yeah, it sounds like some, some interesting topics, interesting, um, uh, titles here for sure.
