[00:00:01] Welcome to Puny Pod's Monthly Bugle for August 2023. I'm Ryan and my co-host as always is David. How's it going David? I mean, do I am doing great? I'm just fresh off a trip to the park and I am not caught up in the hurricane and so the California.
[00:00:19] But I'm doing well. I'm doing well. How are you doing, man?
[00:00:23] I'm doing fantastic, man. It's been a busy time. If you have listened to like any of our friend podcast, you probably know what we have been doing with all of the downtime. It seems like we've had between recording here.
[00:00:41] I think between the last time you heard our sweet sweet voices and the time now where you're here in our sweet sweet voices, you probably heard some episodes of The Hub Girl with us. Those were a blast to record and oh boy those went off the rails real quick.
[00:01:02] Yeah, there was great hands. You were on a show talking about the Avengers campus. I was. I had to go on years up. Everybody likes to talk trash about Avengers campus, which actually will talk a little bit about Avengers campus later in the episode here.
[00:01:18] But yeah, you know everybody talks about how small it is or how there's nothing to do or how it's just kind of now what they wanted.
[00:01:31] And so I jumped on the years a podcast, the parent show for our network here and got on there and spent an evening discussing why it's actually good that it's small. And what's so good about Avengers campus and spoiler alert, it's good.
[00:01:58] It's great. Avengers campus is great. Like it was bugs life bugs land beforehand and yeah you can go on the whole set, the Heinleck thing and there's a lot of training or something.
[00:02:12] Yeah, the two two Heinleck train or something like that like kind of sucked. And so this is way better. Could be improved a bit. Could you do another ride, but I'm sure we'll get into the main show on that on the other show not the main show.
[00:02:27] On years up. Yep. Sorry, Dan and Jimmy. Oh, goodness. Oh goodness. All right. Well as per usual to start our episodes of the monthly bugle here, we are going to jump into some current content reviews.
[00:02:47] Before we do, I do want to give a generalized spoiler warning. I know for the last few months I have kind of gotten on at the beginning and told you all where to skip to avoid the spoilers.
[00:03:00] I think this month because all the projects are long out at this point. They've been out for I think about a month at this point.
[00:03:10] I want to just say here there there will be some spoilers for secret invasion as well as spoilers for other MCU projects before secret invasion that's kind of part of the show.
[00:03:27] Just so you know that is going to happen. So if you haven't watched secret invasion or you're not fully finished with it yet, please know, especially in our next segment we will be talking about explicitly what happens.
[00:03:39] I'm not going to go out of our way to just tell you, you know, just the spoilers or anything like that. But just to free ourselves up in the conversation we will lift our usual spoiler rules.
[00:03:52] Yeah, we won't go out of the way but at the same time we will there's a couple topics that we'll talk about that touch upon movies we haven't reviewed on the main show.
[00:04:04] We've got the way to spoil those at the same time. We'll talk about them at a high level and so just be prepared. Cover your ears we have to.
[00:04:13] There we go. All right, well let's get talking about so some current content here. So the most recent content in the MCU and for those of you who who you know are kind of live with us last time when we recorded a monthly bugle was the night.
[00:04:34] That will the day that episode four of secret invasion released. I had not yet had a chance to watch episode four. David had David watched it. That's because I love it more than Ryan does. He's clear. Absolutely absolutely.
[00:04:54] So we're going to kind of start with episode four. We'll go through episode four five and the finale six. So in episode four, we got our Scrody reveal. So I know Scroly is another name for it but this is that Rode is a Scroall.
[00:05:14] So it was it was definitely teased. It was telegraphed. It was a telegraphed reveal. I would say for the for the couple episodes before it happened. After the fact and after the finale, we get kind of a feeling for win Scrody or win.
[00:05:37] Rodey became a Scroall. My, my thought is and I think some interviews have been given and David keeps let's hear yours after this. But I think I think Rodey was a Scroall sense after civil war.
[00:05:59] So in the, in the finale episode of Sacred Invasion, you see him wake up in hospital scrubs that would lead me to assume he was abducted in the hospital.
[00:06:10] Yep, I think that's right. I think how they go with the director or somebody associated with the show had basically indicated he is in the exact same gown.
[00:06:22] He like in the movie cannot walk and so it is almost certainly the case that right around that time he was a Scroall.
[00:06:32] Yeah, which does kind of lessen the impact of like the end of the end of end of end game where he's there with Tony like knowing that that's a Scroall. There, what Tony is little bit kind of the simulated grief of it all.
[00:06:54] Yeah, yeah, it's definitely interesting and that will be interesting on our main show actually to go back. We'll have to keep that doggyard for ourselves of like thinking about that when we go back to watch civil war and beyond is like.
[00:07:13] What does it mean now that we know Scro, or now that we know wrote he's a Scroall. Yeah, I think so yeah, he is thought that he was a Scroall in at least six MCU projects and you know invites the question of who else?
[00:07:35] Yeah, we seen in MCU that might have been a Scroall at some point in time. We see Martin Freeman's character turn out to be a Scroall. There was very little focus on when he became a Scroall.
[00:07:49] There is curious behavior from a number of different civilian, not civilians but like nonheroes, but who knows? Black Panther Scroall was like, I know it would be kind of bummer. They could do it. Oh man, they could, they could never. They could never.
[00:08:14] Who'd be like the worst, like the worst reveal is a Scroall? We're just like how man this sucks now, like I think. To Chaloh might be the biggest and that's mostly for off screen reasons.
[00:08:30] Yeah, but I think that might be to me the biggest just like gut punch if they were like, oh yeah, he was a Scroall. And now we're going to CGI Chadwick Boseman back into these movies because he woke up. That would be awful. That would be pretty bad.
[00:08:50] So Marvel do not listen to this because that's an awful idea. So in the rest of episode four, Fury's wife is told to kill him. She doesn't. The president's convoy is attacked in that episode and actually we do lose another repeat character.
[00:09:10] I don't know if I'd say long standing character to the MCU but we do lose Toulos in that episode. He is killed. Um, although I was without everything with Scroall's nothing feels for now or final.
[00:09:25] Did you like all right so we saw up to this point in time. We've seen Agent Marie Hill killed. We've seen Toulos killed. I'm probably missing we've seen the Scroall Martin Freeman character killed. But like, do you feel any stakes when Toulos is killed?
[00:09:48] I know the part about like you never know if someone's a diver dead but like really held that kind of suck. Cause like she was a really good criminal underutilized character.
[00:09:58] But like, did you like, did you, was it like a gun punch or was that kind of okay? All right, plot point keep moving along. Yeah and I think that is one of the struggles of this show is they over emphasize some things.
[00:10:12] And then what that caused was the things that should have been big, media stakes story driving type of things ended up getting under emphasized. Um, and so the emphasis seems strange on the way that the plot moved.
[00:10:32] It felt strange and it, it definitely wasn't done well and that's I think just just to wrap up I guess the last thing up I guess the last two episodes real quick. And then we can talk about kind of overall thoughts.
[00:10:46] Um, so in episode five we find out that graphic wants to use, I mean harvest, which is DNA collected of all the participants in end games, Battle of Earth. Graphic knows about this because he was hired by Fury to collect this harvest quote unquote.
[00:11:06] Fury does at the end of that episode kind of do a cool thing where like he goes to his secret stash and it's his like great his grave site with air quotes.
[00:11:18] And a tomb that has all of his gear in it kind of a fun little super spything. And I wish there was a little bit more of that like super spy secret codes kind of stuff in it.
[00:11:33] And then the finale honestly like largely was a pretty bad super scroll fight CGI that involved tiny arms and all kinds of terribleness through through some plot devices. Basically, Gaia who is um,
[00:11:54] Tolos' daughter finds herself in the super scroll machine, which is the machine that graphic has been developing the whole time and she gets the powers of everybody who fought in the battle of Earth.
[00:12:10] Yeah, the big, the big reveal is she impersonates Fury shows up you know pretend like she is dying from the poison from radiation wasn't it? Yeah.
[00:12:28] And plot device gives turns over the harvest she is you know stands next to him when he turns on the harvest and she gets some of the harvest DNA as well. Suspend to speak and then they're both overpowered like overpowered super mutant scroll characters.
[00:12:56] Yeah, so she ends up defeating graphic and then working with the British intelligence folks at the end it's revealed that now that everybody knows that
[00:13:12] scrolls are a thing and scrolls are on the earth humans are terrible so introduce another level of racism and terribleness and watch like political leaders get gunned down because people thought they were scrolls and the president is basically a gain on the president.
[00:13:38] You know as saying that we have to eliminate all non-earth, non-terrain beings off of earth. And then we're moving forward.
[00:13:56] So yeah, I think overall like where we ended is actually a really interesting place like the idea of earth is in chaos because we're going to eliminate all non-terrain beings right. Except for the Azgardians because we're cool with them.
[00:14:14] And well, and that's what I wonder like right is is that going to be a plot point at some point of like the Azgardians are out there in Norway I think right now maybe it's Canada. Same thing. They have new Azgard going on they're non-human.
[00:14:37] We know like it seems like all the violence is basically in swirls but you know I there's a lot of different aliens that we have seen whether it's even all the way down to and this movie just came out on Disney plus this last month.
[00:14:51] And Guardians 3 Peter Quill returns home right so is that going to be a thing and you know how does that interact with the Avengers and that's the sort of stuff that I think is really interesting and I would have loved for this show to go into like the first six episodes of this show.
[00:15:12] I felt like they were a good first six episodes of a 12 episodes series. They were a terrible six episodes for a six episode series. So do you think there'll be a second season or this is it? Because I don't think there will be a second season.
[00:15:31] This is just the Disney content grab lets generate some content let's build up you know create some sinew between fury who's never really had much of a backstory to be honest and that's probably the best part of the series to be honest is like you got to I enjoy a sandwich accent and his trail the character I've seen we've seen him and probably 10 11 movies.
[00:16:00] And there's never been really much about him as a person so I kind of enjoy that part.
[00:16:06] But I don't think there's going to be a second season this is going to jump into armor wars which itself will be interesting now that Rodee is a scroll and you got to rebuild him back up and invest in the character that.
[00:16:24] No, may not care about because he's an alien or wasn't alien for a long time.
[00:16:28] Yeah, and that's and I want to season two I know I think between the reception of this one the current climate around Disney and its view of Marvel shows and comments that have been made in that vein. And just generally I think the waning.
[00:16:58] Waning interest in the MCU to some degree. I do think that it means that we miss out on a sequel around a on a second series. I think well, I don't.
[00:17:15] There was some part of me the thought this would lead lead directly into the marbles, but I don't think. Like and we'll talk about the trailer in the trailer park, but I don't think the marbles is headed down.
[00:17:26] A route that makes a lot of sense for for wrapping up a lot of these plot points introduced. I do think it leads into it for sure because he's on the space station right right.
[00:17:39] And you said something a second ago like I don't think interest in the MCU has waned.
[00:17:46] I think that there's just been a few swings and misses if you will right and we'll kind of get into it when we talk about remaining MCU content for the rest of the year.
[00:17:59] But like this was kind of I remember when I first up, come up says ago. I remember I had read, I didn't read any spoilers, but I was reading some reviewers kind of summary and headline.
[00:18:15] Someone referred to it as like the MCU version of Andor and I was like, oh, this is going to be dope. And I watched them like, oh no, this is more like emcee version of like solo.
[00:18:28] This is like there's there's it and maybe that's kind of weird connection, but like a beloved character here until some backstory. You got to create a story out of that doesn't quite work same female lead character.
[00:18:48] Hold on now, I'm getting a little conspiracy here and it just didn't it's okay. It's fine like yeah, I hate myself for watching him. Yeah, Molly Clark is just poisoned to whatever she touches right. I don't know if he's never did anything. Wow. We're going with this.
[00:19:07] Oh my. Okay. Now we have no. No, I'm in a content for next show so anyway. Here's the thing like I think we talked about the time. It is not in the top third or middle third. I think you felt like yeah, that's kind of bottom third. Yeah.
[00:19:27] The finale, the CGI fight like I don't. I'm really disliked how they left certain things. You've basically created in the Emileard Clark character. The what is arguably the most powerful character, the MCU. And you just kind of drop or off and leave it.
[00:19:47] And you'll think you can retcon it and you can say maybe her scrawl abilities do not allow her to like absorb or bar the X percent of the you know, the original people.
[00:19:57] I will put aside the ridiculousness which is the DNA harvesting part where it's all like in one glob and you're getting DNA from black Panther and Steve Rogers and I'm just like with those guys don't have special DNA. It didn't feel stuff. But anyway, I put that aside.
[00:20:19] At some point time I have to realize I am watching a movie about superheroes, it tights and gods and like space aliens. And so I have to suspend at least a mod a come of disbelief. But it had was disappointing.
[00:20:35] I had hoped for more and it was just. It was okay. I'd be right. But I would not feel like I want to watch the skin. You know?
[00:20:45] Yeah, and I think the funniest part was like they're big like Easter eggy kind of thing at the end was putting Ralph Boner in it. If he didn't catch it at the very very end of the finale,
[00:21:02] they reveal that there are way more people already as scrolls and there's a like a warehouse of scroll pods. And the one sheet that they lift is is Evan Peters is under it who was.
[00:21:24] Quick silver in the X man universe and then was in wand division as sort of quick silver. AKA Ralph Boner. I'm not gonna lie. I didn't even watch that far like as soon as the guy throws like all right. And back and I am out.
[00:21:44] But just I don't know what get into like future content stuff. This was this I think I think if I had viewed it, if it were if we're pitch does hey, this is the fury show. I think I might have had a different perspective on things.
[00:22:03] And I would have liked just a little bit more. There was a lot of tell around oh, fear you've changed. And fury was different after the snap.
[00:22:12] And just seeing a little bit of that would have been I think helpful for me to kind of bridge the gap like. I can I can suspend a certain disbelief oftentimes.
[00:22:22] I can fill in the gaps, but it's nice to be shown just at least a little bit of it even a small flashback. I think would have been helpful. Yeah.
[00:22:32] And like you said probably would have been a better off cop or episodes do a little crescendo show some of the super fighting ability maybe an episode ago like build up to the very end. But you know, is what it is. Yeah.
[00:22:47] Well, let's move on to the news, which as has become kind of our tradition in the last three months. We're going to kick off our news segment with some news about the various strikes.
[00:23:02] So if you were living under rock, the WGA reaches the writers actors, the writer at writers guild of America and the and SAG Africa which is the screen actors guild and the American Federation of television and radio artists are still on strike.
[00:23:25] So we are I should mention because I've seen some confusion. I actually had a listener reach out to me about this asking, about podcasts and that sort of thing. And if you were impacted by the strike or if we should be doing what we're doing.
[00:23:49] So I do want to mention that SAG Africa in their specific strike did, did put out a specific notice of podcast should go on. I should also mention at least I'm not a member of SAG Africa. I don't know about you David. Director skilled but. Yeah.
[00:24:12] But not a member of either of the unions that are striking we do absolutely stand with the unions. We've made that pretty clear as we've gone on here, but you know we we won.
[00:24:25] We have no reason to not podcast right we're we're not we're not promoting we're not actors who are promoting a show or movie or a project.
[00:24:35] But also the this the the guilds have put out you know information that they do appreciate the ongoing you know YouTube series and podcasts and that sort of stuff and and do support. And I think that's what we're doing.
[00:25:01] So I think one of the one of the unions that put like a little Q and A and said how do we support the union should we not go to movies know that they want people to go to see the content they created if you all they want people who are reviewing the content to review the content like so.
[00:25:20] I think it's in the stress new rock stars. I've seen the stress in the ringer podcast networks if you will and so it does it's not a crossing the strike kind of thing but it's more of a. The these.
[00:25:36] Div podcast which are to be fair little more pop of the ours I think I'm just all we bumped up to number 11 on the. I think that's the podcast list then we went down to 12 but so we need people to rate and review but.
[00:25:51] Folks are encouraged to continue to support the sport unions and we're kind of reporting the news and so. Right as you said the WGA strike we are now we it is we are recording on Monday, August 21st. The update which came from Friday so couple days ago.
[00:26:14] The strike is now at this point in time almost two weeks longer than the last year in strike in 2007. Which is a fairly long strike.
[00:26:25] Now one of the questions that I have seen that I've tested more than to like a labor unit expert is are what have been the just you know what are the what the evolution strike have there been any substantive discussions. And so the answer is no.
[00:26:43] But there's been a recent updates whole Friday the 18th so just a few days ago the alliance of motion picture and television producers the AMP T P which represents studios. And so we have been connected to WGA leadership with their latest counter proposal.
[00:27:03] So as we record this the WGA was reviewing the proposals wasn't ready to make a response just yet but the good news is that A.
[00:27:13] There was a counter proposal which is presented and then B the sides are going to meet next week's that's good there we had a period of time I think the last episode like nothing happened. Now there's some talks.
[00:27:29] We don't know what's in the new proposal but according to multiple sources familiar with the negotiations the AMP PTP has focused on and at least somewhat addressed all of the WGA's major concerns including things that were deemed to be non starters and this is pretty significant like.
[00:27:53] You know I I you know as a personally like I am involved in negotiations so they're all times like things that are posture.
[00:28:01] This is a deal breaker this non negotiable and so and so forth and the fact that you are now talking about those things is a positive thing so we're talking about things like. Fixed residuals for streaming content so whether something comes out like. The the.
[00:28:21] Secretivation six six episodes versus something it's 12 or something it's 18 or something it's nine you're getting a fixed residual amount not not based on the number of episodes.
[00:28:33] Also two things to concepts which I think are going to be trickier are things like viewer based streaming residuals so not just on the number of episodes but how many people down on watch.
[00:28:48] And then like protections around things like AI so those are the fact that they respond to those things I think is a positive sign I've heard. And industry insiders say in separate podcasts do other year network talk about how they think like.
[00:29:06] You have this little period that actors join the sack joins in the strike and then things are quiet and now things pick up and something we get resolved in the month of September so. That's good news the bad news is that this has been really really expensive so.
[00:29:25] 2000 seven the work stoppage led to the loss of 37,000 jobs in California and at 2.1 being dollar below the California economy and it's estimated. That the current work stoppages. This have cost the California economy about 3 billion so far so. Which is a lot of money.
[00:29:50] So they've so as we mentioned before the WJ strike along with the strike from sack after which was called July so there's no script of materials everything comes to screeching halls so we've seen delayed release dates for a bunch of titles including MCU titles.
[00:30:09] You've seen stars not promoting upcoming films and so you've had movies that have been released some movies which I've heard are kind of good there's no.
[00:30:18] There are no actors there are no writer I mean most of the actors going to like go out and promote films no one's granting it so this is impacting reason films are it considered to be kind of good but no one's pronti them.
[00:30:32] But it also and one of the things I didn't really consider was that you can also impact local businesses so companies that provide catering to the productions the restaurants that are near the studio the prop houses the dry cleaners the set builders the drivers all that stuff the coffee shops.
[00:30:52] All those things are adverse impact and so it's a it's kind of this multiplying effect so hopefully with all this the studio is realizing they're losing a ton of money.
[00:31:03] Yeah, and for that reason I think they'll come around on these things I think the part that is tricky is it things like AI are fairly new you could figure out the streaming thing I think.
[00:31:16] But yeah, because the key to the streaming side and the viewer base streaming. Is is really the the studios.
[00:31:28] Being open about it and and it's it's going to hurt because I don't I think the reason they haven't been open about it is not just to keep money from the actors I think that that's probably part of it right.
[00:31:41] But I also think the numbers are lower than what they want you to believe. I was watching some some content about.
[00:31:51] How Netflix kind of full the whole industry with its switch over to streaming and everybody body and right yet Disney plus getting created and mass and all of this. And everybody kind of realized that maybe that wasn't actually that that lucrative of a market.
[00:32:17] But they realized that way too late before they had kind of shoved all their chips on it. And so basically you have these studios as spent a ton of money developing streaming platforms and developing content for it.
[00:32:34] And then people weren't watching it and so I think that that's also like that has to be part of the AMP TPs side is like.
[00:32:43] They don't want to admit how poorly streaming viewing is right they they talk about subscriber numbers and they will happily discuss subscriber numbers right they'll talk about that but they're not sharing how many people are putting eyes on the content.
[00:33:00] And and my suspicion is because that is less than they want to lead on it's going to scare Wall Street when they know people aren't watching so that's the tough part so. The way in which we have measured.
[00:33:18] And it's like the way to be classic TV viewers should pass been as Ben Nelson right and so certain number people have boxes on their TV set and know what they're on they're we're channeler on.
[00:33:28] But when you look at the like the number in the sampling the day or like. Like Jesus Christ is cannot be accurate all like it's not it's not every TV show every like it there's just enough data.
[00:33:43] And I think you are correct in the sense that like at the end of the day.
[00:33:49] You can't have wildly conflicting numbers so we need to look at sports leagues we're going to look at like baseball or or basketball or others to do revenue sharing there's always a mistrust number so always a like.
[00:34:03] So always wait to cook the books to make look like you lose money but at the end of the day like these are public traded companies you.
[00:34:10] You can kind of fudge certain numbers but like if you're misleading you will you will end up in a in a class action lawsuit so I get the sense they definitely do want to avoid.
[00:34:23] And if you're misleading anything that would spook the market yeah right and so yes having net number subscribers cool we've got 10 million subscribers. What shows are the watch the number the minutes of watching number down low to all that stuff I also think right I don't know.
[00:34:43] I don't know how much that data they might have I wouldn't be surprised if they were just like oh we don't know I mean I've heard in the past and this is probably old inflation like podcast and so you know like how like. Okay, we know who downloaded.
[00:34:59] I don't know far you listened I don't listen the whole thing I don't know if you downloaded 20 times or one time like some of that stuff is not necessarily tracked and I think that's the part and because of the mistrust on all stop here.
[00:35:11] This is the mistrust I think you will that lead to a longer period of time where the union feels comfortable that they're not being misled because they'll sign an agreement it's post last five six years and.
[00:35:26] If they sign something it's bad for me or one it's going to be a long time before they could like make up for again.
[00:35:32] Yeah, for sure yeah and I will say and I think maybe this is so little bit behind the curtain here I run our stuff I have our numbers that's where stuff and I know on our platform for podcasting we do know.
[00:35:50] So we know where it's downloaded we know depending on the platform that you listen to us on we know some some demographic it's some demographic information so if you listen on Spotify we get. Adrian and gender identity that you've identified with Spotify.
[00:36:12] I don't think we get that I think we might get a range and country of origin in Apple and then Apple we get I double check we get home address. And tell phone number super creepy but appreciate you at. 302 billing street in. Mozilla Montana.
[00:36:35] There you go appreciate listening but we do get you know and we do get depending on the platform again we do get how far it was listen to if it's a if it's a streaming platform like Apple or Spotify.
[00:36:48] We get kind of how far into the episode not each individual listen right like I can't go like this session listen this far but I can say like.
[00:36:58] Our listeners listen on average to I think actually we're actually pretty good I'm not going to lie I appreciate every single listener out there because I think the average like for most podcasts somewhere around like 60% most most podcast that are the average like.
[00:37:17] completion rating of like 60% so most listeners listen through 60% are the episode we're at like 80 85 last time I checked so like I know you're not supposed to give your numbers out on the air but. But I do want to say I appreciate you all for sticking with us because.
[00:37:38] And we have a lot of things that are really interesting.
[00:37:42] And we have some interesting situations we have long episodes and you all stick with them and that is fantastic but I think that's also part of to go back to the strike stuff part of what I and again I I'm also on the tech side so I'm also like.
[00:37:56] You throw a cookie on there and you know who's watched an episode right you it pings the cookie and you know somebody is watch that.
[00:38:03] And so it's an easy track now if they have it or not you know I don't know for sure I don't work for any of those companies so two things one if you listen. Like to like a full episode semis email.
[00:38:19] We will either personally help you move or help you with taxes second. I the streaming thing though man I still I think.
[00:38:30] I the numbers are always going to be skewed and weird so again we are watching for the main show we are watching Thor Dark World and I think before the episode we were kind of chatting a little bit.
[00:38:44] And I said that movie which is not fantastic took me on 10 days to watch because I would start watch bit restart watch through restart again pause and like how did capture that I don't know like and so.
[00:38:59] Do they get to the writers get like 10 bonus credits because I started crappy movie like 10 times probably not like but but I do think there's a technical work around.
[00:39:12] Part of this stuff is like these are novel concepts A eyes now and because it's not like kind of like set and stone kind of thing you have people arguing conceptually about things the fact they're talking is good.
[00:39:27] I do think by the time we record an ex be a god I don't jinx it but I think we'll have like a good substance of update so. Yeah yeah all right well David why don't you I know that you kind of list out here.
[00:39:45] What specifically in the MCU is left this year and what's kind of been adjusted by this yeah so. Because the strike basically impacted everything which was scripted and when the actors went actors the tag after went on strike that means everything was shut down so.
[00:40:11] There are remaining in the MCU there are five releases he left and. We talked about one of my last on the last show. We have one movie for Disney Peshows I'm going to go through these right and I want you to like.
[00:40:34] I don't know we gauge your interests gauge your like thumbs up if you will. First up. I am group season two day viewing September six so we're like. Couple weeks two weeks away.
[00:40:50] Now before you respond I would point out there is 15 minutes of content in season two so. I so I actually hadn't watched season one until recently and I was like trying to find new things to watch with Ted.
[00:41:05] So we watched season one of I am group it's freaking adorable. It's fun it's super super cute so I would say season two like yeah sure I'm mildly excited something else to put on for the kid.
[00:41:21] But the the funny part is like I am group is an example of something where I can see the unions like hey.
[00:41:29] All this stuff could be an event in creative by AI the voice the scripts the animation if you also I you know I can get by in that. Second up season two Loki October six release we are. Couple months away from that one.
[00:41:50] We have after that the marvels which is the only movie with only MC movie which is scheduled release this year. We have the Disney plus TV show ecotissate TV.
[00:42:06] It is streaming show ecot which was not going to be released with two at one point time was going to be shelving talked about last time that's all going to drop same day November 29 post Thanksgiving watch it in your food coma.
[00:42:23] And then X bin 97 was supposed to be fall of 2023 but that could get pushed so I am group season two Loki season two marvels echo.
[00:42:38] And then the 90 seven like how amped are you for like the back half of the MCU going forward for the rest of the year. Yeah it's we're going to eat this year right I think there there is a lot to be excited for.
[00:42:55] And I think that's what we're going to do. I think that's what we're going to do. I think like I said group is going to be really cute Loki season two should be really good Loki season one was phenomenal.
[00:43:08] Although I will say their current promotion that they're doing for Loki is with McDonalds and apparently they just relabeled the sweet and sour sauce to being Loki sauce. God what are we doing.
[00:43:20] I will say the Friday releases is going to be interesting and I haven't seen for sure yet so Disney's really playing around with their release strategy or streaming which is really interesting to see.
[00:43:31] So a soka which comes out this week over in the Star Wars universe go listen to B Anthem ilk if you want to listen to them talk about that. But the show is releasing prime time Tuesdays.
[00:43:46] So 6 p.m. Pacific time on Tuesdays which is interesting because to my for my recollection the only streamer that has done a like prime time release like that is HBO and I will say at least in my world that worked like we I.
[00:44:08] For game of thrones releases we have friends that we would watch it with and we would go over at release time we'd have dinner before and then like be ready for release time and we'd watch it.
[00:44:21] And I kind of I kind of wonder if Disney is trying to get in on some of that same sort of cultural action right like that that that every you know everybody.
[00:44:34] In your circle is watching the same thing at the same time and you kind of get that live streamer or even even if it's not streamed you at least know everybody's kind of watching at the same time so you can text each other in our later and go.
[00:44:49] Do you see such and such as thing happens. They're absolutely doing that like I had a conversation with the co-worker today he's like hey you look forward to tomorrow and I'm like yeah talk or two stays like no so good.
[00:45:02] And they're absolutely playing around with that formula like so Loki will be so we've been acclimated to stuff drops on Wednesdays so okay get up early on Wednesday watch stuff.
[00:45:16] Loki's gonna be on a Friday so is gonna be six and nine nine P.M. Eastern six P.M. West Coast time because West Coast.
[00:45:24] And West Coast best coast but which I think is a cool it's cool model like try it out like I think there's a lot of interest for soka and if you can get that I'd like you I remember watching texting like hey let's we're gonna watch game of thrones it's gonna where they're gonna watch it like.
[00:45:45] Often times virtually three to one play let's go. So I am looking forward to that element I'm also looking for not staying up to midnight to watch the two episodes of Soka or like so I don't that's like covering yours and eyes next day.
[00:46:03] I'm curious to see if they if they end up doing the same thing with Loki because I haven't seen it announced that it's gonna be the prime time release is yeah.
[00:46:11] And I imagine they're gonna watch the numbers for Soka see what happens see what the the public sentiment is around it that sort of thing and and I'm guessing there there's somebody is me sitting there waiting.
[00:46:24] To fire off a tweet that says oh by the way Loki is going to release at six p.m. Friday night right or whatever or they might move it to Thursday because Fridays in notoriously bad TV night if if they're trying to capitalize on that prime time right.
[00:46:42] Yeah, but it's all interesting like I like the fact that they're playing with it echo on conversely they're going to draw all the episodes at the same time and so.
[00:46:51] I do think that they're still trying to figure out how to deliver episodes right what makes the most sense in terms of like timing and release and so forth.
[00:47:05] Let me ask you this of the shows which one do you think is the most important in terms of MCO.
[00:47:19] What it happened to now they need to nail Loki I think echo echoes a cool side character and really good for for representation say showing some indigenous folks and.
[00:47:34] I think that that'll be really cool X men 97. I love the X men early 90s late late 80s cartoon so I'm hyped for that one and I will say for what it's worth I do think that that might actually stick with this release date we haven't had a trailer yet.
[00:47:55] But I do think that that one may stick close we they were hyping it at Comic on and they've been pushing information about it pretty heavily on their podcast on marbles podcast so I do I do believe that it will.
[00:48:14] It'll get its release but yeah to answer your question directly I think Loki you have to nail Loki I think. Loki's what's what their county they should be counting on to get the multiverse saga back on track.
[00:48:30] Okay um a couple things so I agree with you I think they will figure out a way to push the X men out even if they have to hire.
[00:48:41] I'm getting I'm getting. They they really want that to come out like the X men is not I mean as we talked about before like when you look at into your project there's not.
[00:48:56] X men reboot in twenty twenty seven and so the cart even having the anime version would be a huge huge boom. I think personally I think the marbles is the more it's the bigger play it's in a couple ways one.
[00:49:14] We're left with a weird cliffhanger after secret evasion slash fury a backstory. Loki sees one has been great unless they completely like screw things up like it'll be good like Tom Hiddleston.
[00:49:31] Like I don't know if probably has the lowest risk yeah I think so like you look at the cast and like it's going to be fine right. I think that was Loki.
[00:49:44] Yeah besides tangent is that the best Disney plus marbles show we've had is that above one of vision. I do think I think it in one division definitely do get out. One A one B right. Yeah with a potential one C of Falcon and Winter Soldier.
[00:50:04] Okay I really like that one. I like it too like and I also know that at least to those shows like because of the COVID things like we're really impacted right and so anyway we can nerd out on Disney.
[00:50:21] But I do think I do think the marbles it's coming out sort of a weird time November 10 and so it's not really the holiday season crush if you will. I really hope it does well I am a little worried that having a.
[00:50:45] And again, shades of eye pearl butter like a female centric superhero trio two women of color might.
[00:50:54] Not engage certain folks yeah and MC fans which I think is kind of sad you know because I think all three of those characters have been like shining stars in their respective. I'm shows so yeah.
[00:51:11] I definitely agree so to kind of get my one story because you know what when there is two strikes on and that means nobody's getting cast that means.
[00:51:24] No movies are filming so we don't get cool set photos or anything like that we get to turn our focus over to.
[00:51:33] The parks which you know a lot of you all listening are from the other shows on this network which are largely Disney parks focus so I know you all like some of this content.
[00:51:45] So I was recently on our parent show years up and I talked about Avengers campus and one of the things identified was you know the one of the struggles is.
[00:52:00] The stores in Avengers campus essentially boiled down right now to everything is spider man it's it's a spider man it's a store it's a spider man kiosk everything is just spider man and I speculated that you know once they decided they're going to build the e-ticket or the big attraction for the land.
[00:52:20] They'll probably put in an exit gift shop and that'll actually you know get you some cool Avengers stuff right now there is a Avengers store.
[00:52:30] Over by monsters ink in Disney's California adventure it's got a bunch of cool stuff in it well this week literally the day after that that episode release. The the Disney parks block did announce that they will be opening in September.
[00:52:54] The new store opening in the Avengers HQ I think it's called the superhero store something along those lines.
[00:53:02] It will be replacing the super store that is over by monsters ink and right now the contents of that store and based on the the announcement post I feel like this is going to carry over are.
[00:53:20] really high and like proper replicas of MCU things including like an Iron Man suit that had Teddie's college fund burning a hole in my pocket for a moment while was there.
[00:53:34] But you know really cool high-end stuff as well as just kind of your t-shirts your action figures they actually sell comics in the stores which is really I think is really cool.
[00:53:45] They're not like parks exclusive comics are kind of just the comic of the week but it is cool that like if you're feeling the spirit of the place.
[00:53:52] You can buy the comics and I imagine they're going to keep that going but your water bottles your pins your your mugs your everything is is in there. I don't know for sure but I was contacted about the mirror on all ideas. Yeah.
[00:54:18] So is it is it a kiosk is it a look like a like a real brick and mortar like in the because I'm envisioning I'm walking down the street I make a past award winners I make a left I've got ahead of me this little kiosk thing I've got monsters ink I've got the.
[00:54:37] And I'm going to go to go beer place I've got the stage at like kind of like five o'clock like where is it so right now the one that they have currently is over in that area it's in like.
[00:54:50] There's like a kiosk that's a lot of headwear so it's like many years make years that stuff okay and then it's kind of behind that it's in one of the it looks like a production building is what it looks like.
[00:55:01] Where they're moving it to where the new store will be is actually in Avengers campus it's in the Avengers HQ building right through the facade but the building that has the quinget up on top.
[00:55:17] And you see the fights happen on that now logistically I'm thinking about I'm as I'm talking this into existence I've now thinking about when I was there and they had to clear that entire area for the next show because it had pyrotechnics because.
[00:55:36] And some of the shows like task master will run his or her shield across the railing and it'll send out sparks they had to clear that whole area so wondering if you're going to get stuck in that store whatever there's a fight but.
[00:55:58] But yeah it'll be in that building okay so the. Area that is supposed to be a ride in the future which is now like a.
[00:56:10] Egress storage put some stuff in there kind of thing that's where it'll be yeah okay I was in the parks right about lesson we could go. When the Spiderman store a couple times almost bought some goggles didn't do it but I'm excited that they're doing a larger.
[00:56:32] The store I'm again my kids are both almost out of college so I don't have to save for them like you do but. Yeah, if it's quite at that for sure yeah well David that you you gave me the perfect. So you were just in the park.
[00:56:54] That was and you did get to enjoy our at least I think it was enjoy some some Marvel content while you're there and kind of a unique thing that I don't know that I'm going to get to enjoy live.
[00:57:09] But yeah why don't you talk a little bit about Rogers the musical.
[00:57:15] Oh, I'm sorry I saw incredible Hulk and Betty Ross the musical crap crap man no I saw so I took I took I I took family we went to go see went to Disneyland I literally had.
[00:57:35] Folks I've got one to do I don't care if I get on the credit coaster I don't care if you're pirates ride I just want to see this musical so. We were able to.
[00:57:50] We are able to get seats we saw Rogers the musical it is a live production which originates originally from the Disney plus series so Hawkeye so.
[00:58:02] The musical is a limited time theatrical production which is scheduled to have its last performance at the high parent theater and DCA on August 3 first so about. 10 days from now I you know as I've mentioned before.
[00:58:17] I didn't even know the high parent I think they existed like there's this if you're go to Disney Calfort adventure there's this kind of end of the.
[00:58:29] The kind of the end of the street and there's a facade and we don't see is there's the big movie theater built big theater built inside and I'd never been for.
[00:58:39] And evidently it this is the first live production since frozen live that parent was shut down during COVID. So Rogers the musical features the musical number saved the city from Hawkeye and star spangled man from Cap to America the first vendors both of which hopefully folks have seen.
[00:59:03] The music for save city which if you've seen Hawkeye is it's so bad it is so. It's like it's they they can't it's so can't be it's so great. Written by composer lyricist Mark Shaman and the lyrics were written by shaman and director and lyricist Scott Whitman.
[00:59:28] They wrote so shame wrote the music and the two of them wrote the lyrics for the shall the new songs so there are two existing songs and five new ones.
[00:59:40] Shaman was has been nominated for seven Academy Awards including best music original song for South Park's Blame Canada which I love and they've collaborative frequently including the music and lyrics for the 2002 music hairspray which they want a Grammy and a 24.
[01:00:00] So I'm not gonna you know by the time the skits release like it's probably too late to watch it I encourage people to watch it online it's really well done it basically tells.
[01:00:15] Steve Roger story from his origins in Cap America the first vendor so starts in 1940s and we see a little bit of him from later movies for the ventures and and a little bit of ventures and game.
[01:00:33] It is great you start off it's it's a theater you start off you're sitting down non assigned seats.
[01:00:40] They have like old time you radio playing they have people walking around selling like sessions or some popcorn it could be twenty seven dollars and I'll carry because you know whatever and.
[01:00:54] They're so many little nods I won't get into it too much but there are seven songs you do all together. The start gets we saw from Iron Man. Two no yes Iron Man to introduce Steve Rogers.
[01:01:12] We see him and then we cut to a bunch of scenes we basically see if you've seen Captain America first vendor he wants to enroll in list of us army.
[01:01:21] We see Dr. Irskine and Peggy Rogers try to recruit him for their super super soldier program that leads to the song star spangled man that they sing on the US war bond tour that he goes to instead of going to direct lines.
[01:01:41] Carter there's a scene and they cut between a kind of musical and and direct scenes it's like thirty minutes long. There's a cuts to a musical number where fury basically sings like what he is.
[01:01:56] Over the last seventy years which is our Nick Fury I don't know if it's I think it's the same actors performers in each one he was fantastic animated great. They do save the city and then it ends up kind of at the end game part.
[01:02:15] Older Rogers speaks with this younger self he reminds about his life what he accomplished what he did he encourage him to embrace his chance to be with Peggy Carter younger Rogers than use the time stone to travel back in time to have his dance with Carter and spend his life there.
[01:02:31] I would say this like it is really well done the musicals performed by sixty piece orchestra and like it feels like I've seen Broadway plays it felt Broadway to me.
[01:02:50] Couple commentators one is written that like they anticipate a full length Broadway version of the musical which I'm down for and then there was also thought that.
[01:03:01] Rogers the musical might lead to an MC musical film which kind of relates back to something we talked about before about the. Scarce Hanson kind of like team the secret project if you will. Yeah yeah it was great man like.
[01:03:18] I'm glad I watched it I'm it's supposed to just go on for like again literally another ten days there is nothing planned after that but they've also said specifically they're not extending it.
[01:03:30] The performers I looked this up performers who are doing the show are not necessarily members of tag after so they're not like filing strike if you will.
[01:03:40] So that part was good but it's it was really enjoyable I love the show it was great I loved the references I think if you had not seen. I would like to make first of Benjamin I'd be like. Why what's going on.
[01:03:57] But it was great I enjoyed that was fantastic that's awesome man it was great loved it was better than thought of a big that's awesome I'm super glad to hear that and yeah I hope that they extended I.
[01:04:11] I suspect that this is a little bit of a live test and based on you know how well it does or doesn't do in this run. It may come back because realistically. Logistically it makes sense for marvel to keep in approaching down that way.
[01:04:33] Sure but there wasn't like if you think about there was not a lot so I.
[01:04:40] So years ago I dragged three of my friends to New York we're like we go used to go there for our birthday weekend and I'm like hey I'm going to get brought by tickets and I could have gotten.
[01:04:54] Bookbombarman said not man I'm not going to get that I'm going to get the Broadway Spider-Man show which. Yeah yeah and because we're like oh we're going to see someone die or that's going to be some tragic accident if you were.
[01:05:09] It was fine I'm glad I watched it I rather would have seen book a Mormon because book a Mormon is great but there is the element where.
[01:05:18] You can definitely see this being like a full fledged Broadway musical I agreed this is them dipping their toe into it the production value like it was well done but like.
[01:05:33] Like the costumes like they did for the vendors they're just they're like hoodies another thing that's not like there's no CGI there's no so you could do it.
[01:05:45] Not super expensive there's no fireworks there's no like see like but but to your point yeah I could see them seeing like this is the way dip the toe in it I should have also added.
[01:05:58] You could have we just did the kind of the common walkthrough getting the cue walking kind of thing they offered a special kind of access where you had.
[01:06:13] Partying line and you get like a popcorn bucket photo and some other stuff a little the lanyard that was like 29 bucks and I thought that was kind of cheap I was like yeah virtual rent Disney's like hundred bucks like I'd spend 30 bucks for this thing.
[01:06:31] So I do think the this is an experiment I do think it'll come back.
[01:06:37] I do look forward to and look go down for hell writer the musical because I hope you are special it's the cage and the performer all please don't jinx this from your mind but yeah it was good I enjoyed it we all it was great.
[01:06:55] All right so that does it for the news for this month before we we do get out of here I do want to take a quick trip through the trailer park just because the unions are on strike doesn't mean we aren't getting trailers for projects that.
[01:07:10] I'm going to go to the film they're in the can they ready to go pretty much and one of the ones that we got in between our two bubo recordings here was the marvels as we previously mentioned do out on November 10th.
[01:07:24] In this trailer it is this full trailer is set to pretty cool version of BC boys intergalactic. So bringing us back to kind of the 90s feel through the soundtrack that the original Captain Marvel had.
[01:07:40] We see Captain Marvel and fury on a call exchanging kind of sarcastic nicknames the milky ways protocol child I think is what fury calls. Captain Marvel and Captain Marvel calls fury her favorite one I'd super spy.
[01:08:02] And so they're kind of greeting each other we also get to see the goose the the flurkin now knows how to make coffee apparently he presses the go button on the hunt Captain Marvel's coffee machine.
[01:08:19] And then we we get to the marvel kind of name card and we get a introduction of our main villain for this episode are for this movie which is dark band.
[01:08:37] That name is pulled from earth 616 and even you comic heads you probably don't recognize it because dark band was kind of a throw away character who didn't do a whole lot other than like rise up against.
[01:08:54] There the leader of this of the career at the time who whose name was clumsy fall up. Clearly cut out for leadership also my high school. So dark band seems to have a brazer that the resembles miss marvels and we in fact we actually see after.
[01:09:20] She puts it on we see it kind of connect with with Captain Marvel's parents sorry with miss marvels brazer. She also is from the the group of the creak of the accusers you're probably used to run in the accuser.
[01:09:39] She does wield a cosmic rod and they're there were hammers. From there the trailer goes on to kind of introduce what seems to be our central plot device here. The the three marvels if you will captain marvel miss marvel and spectrum.
[01:09:58] Carol Danvers come all upon in Monica Rampo respectively. All seem to switch places because apparently their powers are all light based and they're all entertained gold so whenever they use their powers they swap places with each other kind of.
[01:10:14] And what seems to be random times right so captain marvel might be fighting her way through an alien prison go to use her powers and suddenly now come all a con gets teleported to. A alien prison well.
[01:10:31] Captain Marvel Carol Danvers is in come all the con's New Jersey bedroom. You know what hilarity cut a ensues from there.
[01:10:43] Throughout the rest of this trailer we do get to see kind of a cute little flurkin scene like flurkin kidn scene where you see a bunch of flurkin kittens kind of floating by such should be terrifying.
[01:10:57] You see there's some cute little quotes come all upon is like nerding out over the fact that they're a team.
[01:11:05] And you also do hear them kind of quote the higher further faster from the flight project that Carol Danvers was working on prior to her becoming captain marvel so.
[01:11:18] I thought it was a good trailer. I think it gives you a good idea of what to expect from the story without giving too much away and I think that it did that really well where it's like okay cool I know I'm getting kind of a team up movie between these three women.
[01:11:36] Somehow fury is going to be involved we know Furries on on. Saber and we know that he's involved with and that spectrum is also up dealing with saber and that sort of stuff so I think that'll be really cool to see them team up.
[01:11:55] I will say the one I like I did a very light perusal looking for Easter eggs and I did not come up very heavy handed but I did find they do fly by the statue of liberty so it'll be interesting to see if she's holding Captain America shield.
[01:12:16] Like she was being worked on in the spider-man movie. Oh interesting yeah I am I enjoyed it as well like I like a I like a trailer that gives you a preview of.
[01:12:36] Like what to expect without spoiling it and so sometimes you watch trailers like oh I've seen the movie like I'm completely done I have no interest and so I don't know what's going to happen and I'm great and I don't know.
[01:12:51] I'm going to watch a regardless so I don't know if I don't watch anymore I really want it to be a surprise. I this is as I mentioned before this is a really important project for the MCU.
[01:13:09] I think more so than Loki like if this thing bombs out which I don't think it will but if it doesn't connect if it doesn't follow up secret invasion if it doesn't lay the groundwork.
[01:13:22] It doesn't have to be you know top five all time but it can't be like it turnles kind of like what you know. A man walks quantum any kind of like what do we just watch like this like there's a lot riding on the future state.
[01:13:42] And I think this is really important and I'm really like forward to it.
[01:13:46] Heck yeah yeah dude I'm I'm I'm excited to get some marble get a marble movie back in the theaters that is actually made mind marble and not just sort of referencing it in a pithy Easter egg.
