[00:00:00] What's up everybody welcome to the Puny Pod monthly bugle for April of 2024.

[00:00:11] My name is Ryan and my co-host as always is David.

[00:00:15] David, how are we doing this evening?

[00:00:17] I am doing great.

[00:00:18] I am full of macaroni and cheese that I got from my favorite one of your restaurants

[00:00:23] and I'm ready to talk about some news.

[00:00:26] Nice.

[00:00:27] How about you?

[00:00:28] Not too shabby, not too shabby.

[00:00:30] My dinner was a little bit less exciting.

[00:00:32] It was a salmon filet that I cooked up, but you know.

[00:00:36] Whatever.

[00:00:37] What are you talking about?

[00:00:39] Like yeah, I had salmon filet, I had some caviar, a little like, right?

[00:00:44] Like you know, I had this little goat cheese salad, but you know what?

[00:00:47] You eat your peasant mac and cheese.

[00:00:50] There's three ingredient mac and cheese, but anyway, that was good.

[00:00:54] Oh my goodness.

[00:00:55] Oh my goodness.

[00:00:57] Well, David, the Marvel news is interesting right now.

[00:01:02] We don't, you guys will catch once we get to the trailers.

[00:01:05] There's not a whole lot of like for sure, for sure really gripping news, but there

[00:01:11] is some interesting things that have happened in the last month.

[00:01:16] And so we are here to report on it.

[00:01:18] So this is for those of you who are tuning in for the first time to a monthly bugle

[00:01:22] episode, this is our news show.

[00:01:25] So we cover all the news in the Marvel universe once a month.

[00:01:30] And then over on our other shows, we review the Marvel movies in their release order.

[00:01:38] We are about to review Guardians of the Galaxy volume two.

[00:01:42] That'll be our next one that we're reviewing over on our review shows.

[00:01:46] But yeah, for here in the monthly bugle, we like to start off with a current content

[00:01:53] review and there actually is some current Marvel content.

[00:01:59] And in the form of some Marvel animation, which is X-Men 97.

[00:02:05] David, have you been watching X-Men 97?

[00:02:07] I'm all kind of except for today's episode.

[00:02:10] You and me both.

[00:02:11] You and me both.

[00:02:13] That's my my tradition is tradition is funny to say.

[00:02:18] It's like it's Thanksgiving.

[00:02:19] Right.

[00:02:20] Emily's like every Thursday we wake up early in the morning.

[00:02:24] We do a turkey trot and then we watch X-Men 97 as a family over brisket and.

[00:02:31] No, we've made a thing out of like watching it on Saturday morning.

[00:02:35] Ted and I because usually I let Lisa sleep in a little bit.

[00:02:39] So Ted and I will get up and we'll go down and watch X-Men 97 together.

[00:02:44] It's pretty cool.

[00:02:45] I like it.

[00:02:46] We'll send you like in the show so far.

[00:02:48] So we talked about a little bit before I had not watched very much of the original series.

[00:02:55] And so picking it up, this is sort of the run.

[00:02:58] My understanding is like Chris Claremont just after like some of the

[00:03:03] some of the stuff in the 90 the original were comic books I read.

[00:03:07] So this picks up some stuff afterwards and I'm intrigued.

[00:03:10] It's actually pretty.

[00:03:12] I'm enjoying it so far.

[00:03:13] Like it takes me back to reminds me of comic books.

[00:03:17] And it reminds me the dynamic of the X-Men is just different than Avengers.

[00:03:22] And I like I think that they're kind of they're capturing it, if that makes sense.

[00:03:26] Yeah, for sure.

[00:03:28] That's I think it's it's really well done and it recaptures those 90s cartoons.

[00:03:36] Well, I I don't remember all the 90s cartoons.

[00:03:39] The ones I remember best are the ones that were on the.

[00:03:43] VHS.

[00:03:45] VHS. Yeah, the collector's collection or something or editors collection,

[00:03:49] I think is what it was called and they were they got them from Pizza Hut

[00:03:54] and they were super cool.

[00:03:55] But so those are those are the ones I remember the most.

[00:03:58] They had like Knight of the Sentinels on there and I forget what else was on there.

[00:04:03] Knight of the Sentinels is the one that sticks out to me the most.

[00:04:07] But now, you know, it is really cool.

[00:04:11] They're doing they they started off.

[00:04:15] Well, I guess here, let me throw a quick spoiler alert here.

[00:04:20] We are going to talk about X-Men 97 up to the episode that was released

[00:04:25] on the 10th of April, so we won't talk about anything from the episode

[00:04:30] released on the 10th of April.

[00:04:32] But we will talk about things up to that point.

[00:04:35] So go ahead and skip ahead to the point that I put in the show notes.

[00:04:41] If you want to avoid that.

[00:04:43] But but yeah, so I think it is cool that they they approach the Madeline

[00:04:50] prior storyline and, you know, the birth of Nathan, a cable.

[00:04:59] That's been really cool approaching storms,

[00:05:05] depowerment and then involving forge in trying to repower her has been

[00:05:11] really, really interesting.

[00:05:13] And and I think I think you you said it right.

[00:05:16] It's such a different dynamic than the Avengers where it's like,

[00:05:20] everybody who raw, let's go fight the bad guy to the X-Men where like X

[00:05:25] men like there's bickering and there's there's in fighting and there's

[00:05:30] at the end of the day, there's kind of this sense of right.

[00:05:33] They want to do what's right.

[00:05:35] But there's also some interesting ways that you get there.

[00:05:39] And they they definitely do not shy away from the civil rights.

[00:05:49] Roots of the X-Men stories, right?

[00:05:51] Which I think we've talked about before, which is one of the.

[00:05:55] Storylines, which I've enjoyed in the X-Men, the other Avengers.

[00:05:59] I heard someone else describe it as like it's like a bunch of co-workers, right?

[00:06:03] Yeah, get together, show up, do their work, peace out, you know,

[00:06:08] catch with the next mission and the X-Men are more like.

[00:06:13] Bickering, infighting, complex family dynamics, if that makes sense, right?

[00:06:21] Absolutely, absolutely.

[00:06:23] And I will go on the record as saying I love Remy's crop top.

[00:06:29] I am here for crop top gambit.

[00:06:32] No matter what the Internet thinks.

[00:06:34] All right.

[00:06:34] I note to self for the next Christmas gift for Ryan.

[00:06:41] Oh, man.

[00:06:42] So yeah, really good stuff.

[00:06:44] And honestly, the Internet at large is agreeing.

[00:06:48] I checked it out today.

[00:06:49] It is running at a 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with the audience score

[00:06:54] and 98 percent for the critics score.

[00:07:00] So it's it is kicking all the butts and taking all the names.

[00:07:06] And it is doing a fantastic job

[00:07:11] with just really, really going out there

[00:07:16] and putting out some really quality content.

[00:07:18] And I'm excited because the more of this animated stuff that does good quality content,

[00:07:24] I think that that can kind of help revitalize the MCU a little bit.

[00:07:30] I think it'll feed back into the live action, get some excitement going.

[00:07:34] Yeah, I mean, it demonstrates viability, right?

[00:07:37] Like, you know, this, the What If series,

[00:07:42] you know, demonstrates that a illustrated, serialized story can work.

[00:07:48] Right.

[00:07:49] I have some slight quibbles that it's the number one tied for number one

[00:07:54] as the best Marvel property of all time.

[00:07:57] That seems to be a bit high.

[00:07:59] And I think that's a lot of

[00:08:02] comic book nerds relying on nostalgia, of which I count myself.

[00:08:05] But I would not put this as the best ever deck.

[00:08:07] You know, I'm going to ask you a question.

[00:08:08] Do you know what it's tied with?

[00:08:12] Tied at 98, I'm assuming you looked at like MCU.

[00:08:16] So like Disney Marvel Studios stuff.

[00:08:19] Disney Marvel Studio stuff.

[00:08:21] So illustrated live action movies.

[00:08:27] Is it and would it is it end game?

[00:08:29] Nope, it's not a movie.

[00:08:31] OK, not a movie.

[00:08:36] What if season one?

[00:08:38] It's not animated.

[00:08:40] Dang it. All right.

[00:08:43] Wanda vision.

[00:08:44] Nope. Wow.

[00:08:47] You want to know what it is?

[00:08:49] Yeah, let's go.

[00:08:50] Miss Marvel. Oh, wow.

[00:08:54] I like I like Miss Marvel.

[00:08:55] I love I loved Miss Marvel.

[00:08:57] I just I'm not putting it above like end game.

[00:09:00] But I like it like it's good.

[00:09:04] But it's you know, again.

[00:09:08] I would be also interesting to see like how many people are scoring it

[00:09:12] versus, you know, like, you know, a million people probably scored in game.

[00:09:16] And and I'm guessing the Marvel Miss Marvel and Xperia 97 a smaller audience.

[00:09:21] But if nothing else, you know,

[00:09:24] Buies marvel with a little bit of confidence that they're on the right

[00:09:27] track, that what they're producing, like you said, Ryan is well received.

[00:09:32] Yeah. And hopefully gets them to do more because I do think

[00:09:36] this format really I mean, it's the most akin to the comics.

[00:09:40] And it's not the biggest revenue generator.

[00:09:43] Would enable you enable you to to tell more stories

[00:09:49] which are maybe a little closer to the subject matter.

[00:09:51] Maybe that's why it's so widely received.

[00:09:53] Yeah, I think it can tell a story that's closer to the subject matter.

[00:09:57] And and I think it was Eric

[00:10:01] Eric from the flagship show.

[00:10:05] Never heard of him. Never heard of him.

[00:10:08] He was he was talking about it on one of his various

[00:10:12] asundry shows and he was talking about how really, you know,

[00:10:18] you look at what Marvel is doing right now and a lot of it is

[00:10:22] let's contract and let's try and build excitement the way we did in like phase one.

[00:10:27] Right. And and let's do a little bit less

[00:10:31] and get a little bit more buy in going.

[00:10:35] And I think that these these, you know, whether it's the animated series

[00:10:41] that that attract the nerds a little bit, right?

[00:10:45] The nerds can kind of get into it and then also tell their friends,

[00:10:48] hey, go watch this.

[00:10:49] And it's pretty low barrier to entry or, you know, doing one or two movies

[00:10:54] a year that are really good instead of a lot of movies

[00:10:58] that are a little bit more esoteric.

[00:11:01] I think it's it could lead to a really strong resurgence for the MCU.

[00:11:07] Not that not that it needs a resurgence, right?

[00:11:10] That that's a really strong word, not that it's like died off.

[00:11:13] But there was some concern there for a while.

[00:11:15] Now, you're saying it's on life support. I get it.

[00:11:18] No, the other thing I think, which in a weird way,

[00:11:22] and we'll look back at the strikes and the impacts.

[00:11:26] I think that the series was really benefited by it because it was

[00:11:30] already I think we talked about before it was already in the can pretty much.

[00:11:34] Yeah. And quick to produce, quick to get out first in line.

[00:11:40] People are hungry for content like this is great.

[00:11:43] And then you add this, this you add both the.

[00:11:47] Nostalgia factor and more broadly that it's X men property.

[00:11:52] And I, you know, I kudos for them.

[00:11:56] They needed a little like a little rebound, if you will.

[00:11:59] And I think they did it like it's it's a good series.

[00:12:02] I enjoy it. Yeah, for sure.

[00:12:05] For sure.

[00:12:07] All right. Well, let's move over to some news in the MCU here.

[00:12:12] So first and foremost, we did get some more casting from the.

[00:12:18] Almost said fast and furious because I denoted this as FF.

[00:12:23] Do you see what? OK, quick question.

[00:12:26] Real quick tangent.

[00:12:28] You're casting the fantastic for with characters from fast and furious.

[00:12:32] Who is who?

[00:12:34] Well, assuming we can resurrect the dead.

[00:12:38] Yes, assuming I'm going to put Paul Walker as

[00:12:44] Johnny's fantastic. Oh, OK.

[00:12:47] I like it. OK.

[00:12:49] I'm going to put

[00:12:53] let's have Vin Diesel be the thing.

[00:12:55] Yeah, that's the obvious one.

[00:12:57] Right.

[00:12:58] That I I debated not going that way because maybe it was too obvious.

[00:13:01] But Ludacris as the human torch.

[00:13:07] OK, I like it.

[00:13:09] And then.

[00:13:13] Jordana Brewster, who played Mia as as Sue Storm

[00:13:19] and then Doc Doctor Doom.

[00:13:23] The bad guy from fast and furious, too, that I can't remember his name.

[00:13:27] But he's the actor's been all over stuff,

[00:13:30] but he's the big bad bad guy.

[00:13:34] And now I can't think of his name.

[00:13:36] OK. Yeah.

[00:13:39] I like it. I like it.

[00:13:42] This is my mind is now racing.

[00:13:45] I thought I thought it would race with the Nicholas Cage casting.

[00:13:48] And now I'm like, where do I place Han?

[00:13:51] Where do I place?

[00:13:51] Right. I think Tyrese would be a really good Johnny Storm as well.

[00:13:55] Like, oh, yeah. Yeah.

[00:13:57] I mean, we'll do fast and furious is the Avengers.

[00:13:59] All right. But anyway, what let's.

[00:14:01] Oh, my goodness.

[00:14:02] All right. Let's stop.

[00:14:03] Let's get back. Sorry.

[00:14:04] So no, fantastic for got some new casting.

[00:14:09] So Julia Gardner has been cast as

[00:14:15] as Shala Ball, who is set to become the Silver Surfer in this movie.

[00:14:22] So she is in the comics.

[00:14:24] She's a love interest of Noren Rad,

[00:14:27] who is kind of the Silver Surfer that you're used to hearing about.

[00:14:31] Right? You're you're kind of when you picture Silver Surfer,

[00:14:34] you think of the Silver Surfer from Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer,

[00:14:38] that sort of thing.

[00:14:40] From what I from the reports I read,

[00:14:43] it's Shala Ball's version of the Silver Surfer.

[00:14:50] No reports yet on if Galactus will show up,

[00:14:53] obviously, where Silver Surfer shows up.

[00:14:56] Galactus is typically a.

[00:15:00] Quick follow behind.

[00:15:04] But that would be interesting if they chose to do a Galactus story.

[00:15:08] I would be I'd be a little bit surprised

[00:15:11] because I think Galactus can be a phase wide.

[00:15:14] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:15:15] It's you got to build to it.

[00:15:17] He's too big. Yeah, he's too big.

[00:15:18] Right? You do him like Thanos and you preview him and you

[00:15:22] you you you see glimpses of him, him, it in in the black.

[00:15:28] It can't I don't think it'll be about him personally.

[00:15:31] When you know when you saw

[00:15:34] when you saw the Click Beaty article title about Julia Garner

[00:15:39] is going to be the Silver Surfer where you're like,

[00:15:42] wait, what?

[00:15:42] Though the woman from

[00:15:47] Oh God, I just have the name of the movie in front of my on the tip.

[00:15:50] My tongue from Ozark.

[00:15:52] She's going to be the dude on the surfboard.

[00:15:56] And yeah, it was a little bit.

[00:15:58] I was like, oh, interesting choice.

[00:16:01] I mean, OK, I don't have too many qualms with it.

[00:16:05] Like, I guess that that character could be androgynous.

[00:16:10] There there isn't a whole lot of need for

[00:16:14] specific gendering there, but interesting.

[00:16:16] And then and then reading into it, OK, she's she's going to be

[00:16:20] a specific existing character.

[00:16:22] They're not like, you know, doing Nora Rad or something like that.

[00:16:28] It's it's yeah.

[00:16:30] My your reaction actually was different than mine

[00:16:34] because when I first read it, I read it quickly as Jennifer Garner.

[00:16:37] And I was like, oh, what's going on here?

[00:16:41] Like, huh.

[00:16:43] And no, I think the other thing is the very small part of me

[00:16:47] hope that there's like an outtake gag scene of Julia Garner

[00:16:51] as the foul mouth character Ruth in like Silver Surfer Garb.

[00:16:57] She's filthy mouth.

[00:16:59] That'd be hilarious.

[00:17:00] That would be that would be hilarious for sure, for sure.

[00:17:04] Well, I know you also saw some casting news this week as well.

[00:17:08] So they are.

[00:17:10] I saw some news.

[00:17:11] Some of the stuff it's hard to tell if it's like rumored,

[00:17:13] if how hard how firm the.

[00:17:17] Announcements are, but it sounds like that

[00:17:21] Chongchi to now has a release date and a cast.

[00:17:29] So if you remember and we talked about the characters

[00:17:34] who have been like kind of criminally underused,

[00:17:36] like Chongchi came out like five years ago.

[00:17:39] Is that right? Yeah. Sick.

[00:17:40] Not maybe six.

[00:17:43] But basically, the news is they are going to

[00:17:47] like fire things up in twenty twenty five.

[00:17:49] It sounds like so nice.

[00:17:51] Not a lot of hard news about the sequel

[00:17:54] sounds like they have

[00:17:56] Simul who's obviously going to reprise his role.

[00:18:00] I think I read that the director was supposed to return,

[00:18:03] but this was this is one of those projects.

[00:18:09] If you remember, you know, if you can rewind

[00:18:10] like three or four or five years ago,

[00:18:13] when they blast all these logos on the screen,

[00:18:15] you're like, oh, Chongchi to and then it's kind of like disappears

[00:18:18] coming back, which is good.

[00:18:21] He it also led to some discussion.

[00:18:25] The actor who played

[00:18:30] the iron fist actor who played

[00:18:35] the phyton who played the game, Joe, and he posted

[00:18:39] something kind of cryptic on Instagram

[00:18:41] and almost made it imply like he was coming back

[00:18:46] and it would be an interesting team up.

[00:18:50] Yeah, despite the fact that his character was widely hated.

[00:18:55] I hate it's kind of strong.

[00:18:56] Like I think it's I thought he was OK.

[00:18:59] Like I don't I, you know, could have been better.

[00:19:01] It's one of those things where, you know,

[00:19:04] I think that when you cast, especially when you start

[00:19:07] casting this, my own opinion, like when you start casting like

[00:19:10] a heavy martial arts movie, you either cast an actor

[00:19:14] who knows nothing about martial arts

[00:19:16] or you cast a martial art, a martial artist who knows nothing about acting.

[00:19:21] And I mean, he was OK.

[00:19:24] But yeah, and I think I think iron fist suffered a little bit

[00:19:30] from like comparison.

[00:19:33] So at the same time as iron fist came out was in the

[00:19:37] heart of the CW era versus era.

[00:19:42] And ultimately iron fist played a lot like Arrow.

[00:19:48] The stories were very, very, very similar.

[00:19:51] And so I think there there was kind of this like, oh, well,

[00:19:55] they're doing it better on CW than they did it in Netflix.

[00:19:58] And so it almost got extra hate because like somebody else was doing it better.

[00:20:03] Yeah. And it was also like a little bit, you know,

[00:20:06] throwback to the ancient one casting where you got like this

[00:20:09] blonde hair blue eye guy and Danny Rand in the comic book.

[00:20:12] If I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, I thought he was half Asian, half white.

[00:20:17] I could be I might have that wrong, but was not blonde.

[00:20:22] You know, looks like Australian.

[00:20:26] I know he's an Australian, but like just looks extremely white.

[00:20:29] Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

[00:20:32] I'm looking forward to that property.

[00:20:35] I think, you know, when you when you look back at like the Avengers

[00:20:38] and then like the next phase of the Avengers,

[00:20:42] you know, it was supposed to be like Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, Black Panther.

[00:20:47] And obviously those plans have kind of changed a bit.

[00:20:50] So I'm glad that I'm glad they're bringing back Shang-Chi.

[00:20:53] I'm actually I'm really looking forward.

[00:20:54] I think it'd be really good.

[00:20:56] Yeah. I did also see some rumors that potentially,

[00:21:01] potentially the iron fist that we might get in Shang-Chi

[00:21:05] is actually going to be Colleen Wing,

[00:21:07] who we also saw in the iron fist show.

[00:21:13] She's she's Danny Rand's love interest.

[00:21:18] And so she could she could take over the mantle.

[00:21:23] She has taken over the mantle of iron fist during the comic books.

[00:21:28] And so there there has been I saw some rumors about

[00:21:32] her stepping in also in the MCU, which would be interesting.

[00:21:36] That'd be cool. That'd be cool.

[00:21:37] I'll be down for that.

[00:21:39] The the other piece of news.

[00:21:41] So one of the things when you look back at the phases is the movies got

[00:21:47] progressively, especially I'm thinking like they three

[00:21:50] when the movies got progressively more expensive to make,

[00:21:53] you're like, oh, I should see Jaggedy.

[00:21:54] I get more expensive like now the actors are actually getting way more expensive.

[00:21:57] Right. Yeah. And so Robert Downey, Jr.,

[00:21:59] who, you know, again, worth every penny that they spent on him

[00:22:04] for Iron Man and the Avengers and Civil War and everything else.

[00:22:10] You know, pre I'd say it was like twenty twenty

[00:22:14] three, I think, and he was interviewed and never said, hey, would you

[00:22:18] how about you?

[00:22:18] You think about reprising that Iron Man role?

[00:22:22] And he was he was basically kind of laser focused.

[00:22:24] And like this is pre Oppenheimer.

[00:22:27] It's like you wanted to kind of go in a different direction.

[00:22:30] Wins the Academy Award, you know, gets his, you know, gets his his day.

[00:22:37] And then they ask him on reprising his role recently.

[00:22:41] An Esquire asked him specifically whether he would come back as Iron Man.

[00:22:45] And he Robert Downey, Jr. said, quote, happily.

[00:22:50] This is an eighth.

[00:22:52] And he said, quote, it's too integral a part of my DNA.

[00:22:57] That role chose me.

[00:22:59] And look, I always say never bet against Kevin Heige.

[00:23:02] I'm sorry, Kevin Feige, it's a losing bet.

[00:23:05] He's the house he will always win.

[00:23:07] So when you saw that, he's not wrong.

[00:23:10] So when you saw that, like how excited were for you for.

[00:23:16] Potentially bringing him back in probably a future Avengers movie.

[00:23:22] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:23:23] I feel like he's either going to show up as he'd have to show up as like a scroll

[00:23:28] or alternate universe, Iron Man, something like that.

[00:23:32] Which again, with the secret wars that they're doing, it would make sense

[00:23:36] that, you know, they pull in the ultimate universe.

[00:23:39] And so you pull in ultimate Tony, who is still alive and all that good stuff.

[00:23:46] Which which could be cool.

[00:23:47] I would love to see him do it again.

[00:23:49] I'm also kind of at the point where I'm like,

[00:23:53] I love Iron Man. I do.

[00:23:55] But it's almost like

[00:23:58] I really need them to think about moving on.

[00:24:02] Wait, what are you saying?

[00:24:04] Yeah, I know it's crazy.

[00:24:06] No, I like I say I love Rupert Downey Jr.

[00:24:10] I love his turn as Iron Man.

[00:24:13] But I think, you know, more

[00:24:16] more the like pragmatic side of me is like, it's time to

[00:24:20] it's time to really invest in Riri Williams or get Iron Lad going

[00:24:27] or make some sort of Iron Man happen with

[00:24:34] Harley from Iron Man 3 or something.

[00:24:38] You know, his daughter Morgan, whatever.

[00:24:40] Yeah, do something.

[00:24:42] I mean, hell, even if they wanted to do a rescue movie,

[00:24:46] I would maybe enjoy that.

[00:24:52] Watching Gwyneth Paltrow for two hours might not be the best thing in the world,

[00:24:56] but you know, I agree with you that it can't be.

[00:25:04] It can't be like a gimmick, right?

[00:25:05] It can't be like this, like, you know, this lazy riding, like,

[00:25:09] hey, we're going to like cut a crown a quarter of a mountain.

[00:25:13] All of a sudden there's like it's got to be kind of

[00:25:15] it has to they have to do it in a in a good way.

[00:25:20] And I I don't know, man, like, I don't think they're so desperate

[00:25:23] as to like to kind of completely like you say, undermine the future.

[00:25:31] Right. Yeah.

[00:25:32] And they have to develop someone's characters.

[00:25:36] I'm not super confident that they feel confident in themselves

[00:25:41] in terms of their perspective and their opinions as to who's going

[00:25:44] to be the next slate of stars, because like, you know, the younger characters

[00:25:49] we get to we get, you know, tangent and talk about this for hours.

[00:25:52] But like the younger characters haven't really they've been kind of previewed

[00:25:55] a little bit, but right MC really has to like put them on the on the forefront.

[00:26:02] They have to like put them out there if you will.

[00:26:05] And it just kind of cuts away a little bit.

[00:26:07] Like if you've got a scene with like, again, picking up one character

[00:26:10] like Riri Williams and like Tony Stark, like he's just going to over chat.

[00:26:14] He's just going to like eat up the whole scene.

[00:26:16] Yeah. And so you just got to figure out a way in which you could do it

[00:26:21] kind of in a thoughtful way that kind of builds towards everything.

[00:26:26] So yeah, hopefully hopefully they do something with the Young Avengers

[00:26:30] Stinger that they put at the end of the Marvels with Miss Marvel

[00:26:37] suggesting the Young Avengers to Hawkeye, Kate Bishop Hawkeye.

[00:26:45] Hopefully they do something there.

[00:26:47] They there's a few others that they have that they could pick out.

[00:26:50] They've got they've they've introduced kid Loki.

[00:26:54] He's out there somewhere in the multiverse at this point.

[00:26:56] So you you could maybe pluck him back in.

[00:27:00] I think Riri Williams, obviously now Spider-Man, which actually

[00:27:05] I have a feeling and the weird thing with Spider-Man is

[00:27:10] they like went anti origin story where they were like, let's not do his origin story.

[00:27:15] And then.

[00:27:19] You know, quickly worked through a big part of his character, which is,

[00:27:23] you know, everybody knew that he that Peter Parker was

[00:27:27] Spider-Man pretty early on in the MCU.

[00:27:29] And now nobody does.

[00:27:31] So I have a feeling they're going to do some more of the secret

[00:27:33] identity politics with him.

[00:27:37] But realistically, I think that Spider-Man becomes your leading man

[00:27:41] in the MCU going forward.

[00:27:45] And then I don't know.

[00:27:46] There's there's a there's a few young folks out there to pick from.

[00:27:50] Right. You've got you've got love as well.

[00:27:56] Thor's adoptive daughter.

[00:27:59] OK.

[00:28:00] Yeah. So some options out there,

[00:28:02] they definitely need some development because they are not super compelling

[00:28:06] at the moment. What if I said, hey, I've got an idea for Oscar

[00:28:11] winning actor who has been in an MCU movie?

[00:28:16] He lands pops up the helmet.

[00:28:19] It's not Nicholas Cage.

[00:28:21] It's everyone's favorite Trevor Slattery, Ben Kingsley.

[00:28:24] Oh God. In an Iron Man suit.

[00:28:26] That'd be hilarious.

[00:28:28] Oh, that'd be fantastic.

[00:28:30] I just popped in my mind just like

[00:28:32] if you're Ben Kingsley, yeah, sure, whatever.

[00:28:34] Like it's money.

[00:28:35] I don't I thought you were going to suggest a ghostwriter return.

[00:28:38] No, I'm not doing that, man.

[00:28:40] I'm not doing that.

[00:28:41] Not doing that.

[00:28:43] So moving on from casting kind of stuff, there's been

[00:28:48] there were some pretty big reports that came out by way of Forbes

[00:28:52] is where I saw most of this

[00:28:55] and an insider at Marvel, supposedly.

[00:28:59] I don't think they've been named or anything like that,

[00:29:02] but was getting some information out.

[00:29:05] Three projects have been canceled

[00:29:08] or are no longer in development.

[00:29:10] So Ant-Man 4, which unfortunately is probably just a consequence

[00:29:15] of Quantamania's underperformance.

[00:29:19] And Ant-Man 4 just goes by the wayside,

[00:29:24] which that's also another young Avenger you could have is

[00:29:27] Cassie Lang, but Captain Marvel 3

[00:29:34] also has gone by the wayside, which again, that's a little unfortunate

[00:29:39] just because we I do think that

[00:29:44] there's a lot of reasons why the Marvels struggled

[00:29:46] and I don't think they were all because it was a bad movie.

[00:29:50] I think that there there's politics at play there.

[00:29:54] I think there's also the strike, like ultimately

[00:29:56] there there is the fact that they got to do no press for that movie.

[00:29:59] Yeah, yeah.

[00:30:01] And then last but not least, the Eternals 2

[00:30:05] has also been canceled, which is really interesting

[00:30:10] because that one, the Eternals really set some stuff up,

[00:30:15] which will be interesting.

[00:30:16] There I've seen some rumors that some people believe that maybe

[00:30:20] the Thunderbolts will deal with the celestial

[00:30:23] that's popping out of the Indian Ocean,

[00:30:27] because Florence Pugh did like a Instagram video

[00:30:30] from the set of the Thunderbolts

[00:30:34] and some things in the background kind of looked like the white marble

[00:30:37] that was the eternal.

[00:30:38] That's what the eternal look turned into.

[00:30:43] They're not the eternal, the celestial spoiler.

[00:30:46] I haven't seen it yet.

[00:30:47] Oh, well, there we go.

[00:30:50] Do any of those really surprise you though?

[00:30:52] Like I don't I didn't realize anything, the Eternals 2.

[00:30:55] Like I saw that in show notes.

[00:30:57] I was like, wow, I didn't know they were making that.

[00:31:00] Yeah, they introduce so I know you haven't seen the Eternals.

[00:31:03] So I'm going to do some spoilers.

[00:31:06] I don't know. It's an old enough movie.

[00:31:07] Yeah, it's at the very end of the Eternals.

[00:31:10] They did introduce Thanos's brother.

[00:31:15] Star Fox was introduced at the end of the Eternals

[00:31:19] first movie, which I was kind of excited to see how that would play out.

[00:31:25] I am still a pretty ardent defender of the Eternals,

[00:31:29] but it is definitely not MCU flavored superhero movie.

[00:31:35] It is it is definitely a different style of superhero movie.

[00:31:39] And so I do understand, you know, I think you look across that slate

[00:31:43] and Eternals has kind of been

[00:31:47] almost at this point comically forgotten in the MCU.

[00:31:52] Like literally there is a giant being that was supposedly

[00:31:58] hibernating in the in the middle of Earth

[00:32:01] that made its way halfway out and got frozen there in the Indian Ocean

[00:32:07] that has not been mentioned anywhere else in the MCU.

[00:32:12] And so that that plot line has been pretty pretty,

[00:32:17] like comically ignored.

[00:32:20] Captain Marvel, like I say, unfortunately, it just underperformed

[00:32:24] through no fault of its own, I think, in my opinion.

[00:32:28] And then Ant-Man 4.

[00:32:29] I think Ant-Man 4 is the contracting of the multiverse.

[00:32:33] I think that's that signaling.

[00:32:36] Hey, there's not so much multiverse happening.

[00:32:38] So Ant-Man, you don't get a fourth.

[00:32:41] Yeah, I also do.

[00:32:43] Again, I think I think it's funny.

[00:32:45] I was listening to the

[00:32:48] the Super Secrets Boiler Show for Ant-Man, literally like yesterday.

[00:32:52] And I made a joke comment that like, hey, if you told me in 2006,

[00:32:57] we're going to three Ant-Man movies.

[00:32:59] I'm like, OK, I mean, I guess so.

[00:33:01] But is there like some defenders or X-Men in there?

[00:33:05] Like three and movies.

[00:33:07] It's plenty. It's fine.

[00:33:09] Let's let's, you know, team them up with someone else.

[00:33:12] Team Ant-Man and the Wasp up with someone else.

[00:33:14] Totally fine with that.

[00:33:15] Yeah. At this point, the only hero to get four movies is Thor.

[00:33:22] Which is which, if you told me that at the beginning of the MCU,

[00:33:25] I would have been like, that's insane.

[00:33:30] Because Cap got three Iron Man got three Black Panthers had two.

[00:33:39] Yeah. Pretty wild.

[00:33:41] Yeah, pretty wild.

[00:33:44] Outside of that, some other news that that kind of happened here.

[00:33:48] So King Dynasty has lost that moniker.

[00:33:53] So internal to Marvel, they are now

[00:33:56] referring to Avengers Five as Avengers Five.

[00:34:00] Again, no surprise here.

[00:34:02] They they are dropping King like a bad habit and moving on from that.

[00:34:09] Other Jonathan Majors news happened this week.

[00:34:11] We're not going to cover it necessarily here, but yeah,

[00:34:15] they're they're dropping King like a bad habit.

[00:34:18] And so I'm not too surprised that internally they're saying,

[00:34:20] yes, there's going to be an Avengers movie.

[00:34:23] We want to still make something Avengers.

[00:34:25] Maybe it's Avengers versus X-Men.

[00:34:26] Maybe it's Young Avengers.

[00:34:28] Maybe it's Avengers fight.

[00:34:31] Dr. Doom. Who knows, right?

[00:34:33] Avengers fight.

[00:34:35] Trevor Slattery is Iron Man.

[00:34:37] Yeah.

[00:34:40] The real Mandarin comes in.

[00:34:41] Actually, that would be cool.

[00:34:43] Like a real Mandarin with his tenor.

[00:34:45] Like I know they've redone the tenorings now,

[00:34:48] but like the mystical tenorings that do essentially like

[00:34:52] infinity stone type stuff.

[00:34:54] Yeah, that'd be dope.

[00:34:55] Yeah, have them fight the Avengers.

[00:34:57] But but yeah, so it'll be interesting to follow this

[00:35:01] and see what Avengers Five becomes,

[00:35:04] whether it becomes like Secret Ores part one

[00:35:06] in Secret Ores part two or

[00:35:11] you know, maybe Longshot.

[00:35:13] And I'm just going to I'm saying this because we're recording it.

[00:35:16] It changes its name to the Ultimates

[00:35:19] and we get an ultimate universe.

[00:35:23] Avengers movie, which would be frickin dope.

[00:35:27] But yeah, I mean,

[00:35:30] it's not surprising that it's no longer Kang Dynasty.

[00:35:34] I will be curious to see what it develops into.

[00:35:37] Yeah, yeah.

[00:35:38] And I think we'd even seen like rumors before

[00:35:41] when before he was dropped and when they were scrambling,

[00:35:47] they were publicly referring to it as Avengers Five.

[00:35:49] Like it wasn't the kind of drop the Kang part.

[00:35:53] And so doesn't surprise me at all.

[00:35:55] Again,

[00:35:57] you know, in a weird way, like the

[00:36:01] shifting way from Kang and maybe from the multiverse

[00:36:04] might have been like a positive thing, right?

[00:36:07] Since it wasn't super well.

[00:36:08] I mean, for a lot of people, it wasn't super well received.

[00:36:11] So yeah.

[00:36:13] Yeah, I definitely agree.

[00:36:14] I definitely agree.

[00:36:15] I think it I mean, for the pockets of the folks

[00:36:20] who who count the money at Marvel,

[00:36:23] it certainly is going to be a good thing, I think,

[00:36:26] that they move away from the multiverse.

[00:36:29] And then last but not least, some TV news here.

[00:36:34] So we reported last month, I think, on

[00:36:40] the physical releases for Captain and

[00:36:44] Falcon and Winter Soldier.

[00:36:46] You said Captain Toneal.

[00:36:47] Yes.

[00:36:48] Wait, what?

[00:36:50] For Falcon and Winter Soldier and Moon Knight,

[00:36:55] both of those movies had designations

[00:36:59] as the first season on Blu-ray.

[00:37:02] That's when they were released.

[00:37:03] It was like season one Blu-ray.

[00:37:05] WandaVision was also released,

[00:37:08] but it was released as complete series Blu-ray.

[00:37:12] So this is extrapiling, extrapolating a little bit, right?

[00:37:16] There's some marketing terms in there and stuff.

[00:37:18] But this does pretty much put an end to any hope

[00:37:23] for a season two of WandaVision.

[00:37:26] Now, there are still projects in development,

[00:37:29] still things within that universe, if you will.

[00:37:32] I mean, I know it's all one greater universe,

[00:37:34] but that pocket of the universe where

[00:37:38] Agatha Harkness's show is coming out later this year.

[00:37:44] Vision Quest, which is a vision's story

[00:37:47] after WandaVision is still on the docket

[00:37:50] as far as I have seen.

[00:37:53] So no WandaVision season two,

[00:37:55] but those stories live on through the other shows.

[00:37:59] Yeah. So, Bubba, we're not going to see

[00:38:03] WandaVision, which I really, really, really liked.

[00:38:06] But I'm also kind of fine with like it kind of stands on its own.

[00:38:11] You know?

[00:38:11] Yeah, just let it be a limited series and.

[00:38:14] Yeah, I can't.

[00:38:15] I mean, I can, I don't know.

[00:38:17] Like, yeah, you could I guess you could kind of pick up

[00:38:19] and figure out what's going on with white vision

[00:38:22] and, you know, Wanda's reading the dark like I.

[00:38:25] But I also kind of like where they left it.

[00:38:27] It was great. Yeah.

[00:38:28] I would love to see someday

[00:38:31] and this would have been a WandaVision season two.

[00:38:33] Right now I'm playing

[00:38:36] Marvel's Midnight Sons, the video game of Midnight Sons.

[00:38:41] And man, those stories are kind of cool.

[00:38:45] So the story in that game is basically

[00:38:49] like

[00:38:51] Lilith is coming who's a big bad in

[00:38:56] she's a big like mystical bad.

[00:38:58] She's she's attacking the world, but it involves like Agatha

[00:39:04] and Wanda and Niko Minru and Magic and like

[00:39:10] all of these really cool like the new ghost writer,

[00:39:14] Robbie Reyes, all of these really cool

[00:39:18] like mystical side of Marvel, which after we watched Doctor Strange,

[00:39:25] I'm like, I'm kind of wishing we could do more of that.

[00:39:28] That that would be super fun if that could get some shine

[00:39:34] in more than just like Wanda WandaVision.

[00:39:38] And and there there's just a lot there to the like true magic side

[00:39:42] of the MCU that I think could be really cool.

[00:39:45] It would be cool.

[00:39:46] I'd be down for that.

[00:39:49] Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome.

[00:39:51] Well, before we go to ads, I do want to do one more story here.

[00:39:57] So.

[00:39:59] Disney is doing it is presenting its D23.

[00:40:04] They're calling it the ultimate fan experience

[00:40:07] here at the end of summer in August.

[00:40:10] But with the announcements of like how much tickets we're going to cost,

[00:40:13] when things were happening, etc., etc., etc.

[00:40:16] They also announced the recipients of the Disney Legend.

[00:40:20] It's not an award, but recognition, I guess.

[00:40:24] So Disney Legend is kind of like the Disney Hall of Fame, if you will.

[00:40:30] It goes back to I did this research and now I've completely forgotten it.

[00:40:37] I believe Disney Legends started in the late 90s, if memory serves.

[00:40:42] And they have been rolling forward through to today.

[00:40:46] Acquired people who kind of got their their shine in acquired media

[00:40:55] have started to be recognized as of 2015.

[00:40:59] They started with some of the Star Wars folks, right?

[00:41:03] Stan Lee is a Disney legend.

[00:41:05] Chadwick Boseman got honored posthumously last year at Destination D23,

[00:41:11] which usually this is like an every other year type of situation.

[00:41:15] But last year they kind of a weird off year thing.

[00:41:18] And Chadwick Boseman got got recognized.

[00:41:24] Stanley, who else has been recognized from the Marvel comic side?

[00:41:29] Why can't I think of his name?

[00:41:32] Not who's being recognized this year, but the other big name in.

[00:41:38] Comic drawing.

[00:41:41] Oh, Kirby.

[00:41:44] Yes, thank you.

[00:41:44] Jack Kirby, Jack Kirby is also a Disney legend.

[00:41:50] So they are doing a good job of recognizing Marvel comics folks.

[00:41:54] And this year we actually get to see two more Marvel

[00:41:59] two more folks who kind of really got their shine in the Disney light,

[00:42:02] if you will, through Marvel.

[00:42:04] So to to say that

[00:42:10] she got all of her shine from a Marvel movie is a little bit short sided.

[00:42:14] But Angela Bassett, who we know is Queen Ramunda in the Black Panther series

[00:42:20] is being honored as a Disney legend this year.

[00:42:23] So really excited for her.

[00:42:25] She has an Academy Award for other things like she she's definitely done

[00:42:30] way more than just Black Panther to say, you know, she's Queen Ramunda.

[00:42:34] And that's it is to sell her very short.

[00:42:37] But yeah, definitely really excited for that.

[00:42:42] And then on the comics side of Marvel,

[00:42:47] honestly, somebody who probably should have gotten recognized

[00:42:51] right next to Stan Lee, if I'm being honest, is Steve Dicko.

[00:42:57] So Steve Dicko is being recognized as a Disney legend.

[00:43:04] We talked about him a little bit in Doctor Strange.

[00:43:09] He developed Doctor Strange.

[00:43:12] He developed the look for Doctor Strange as well as writing

[00:43:15] some of the early Doctor Strange stories.

[00:43:18] He is the reason why Iron Man looks the way he does now.

[00:43:24] Iron Man was a man in an either gold or silver tin can, essentially

[00:43:31] up until Steve Dicko got his hands on the art for Iron Man and gave us

[00:43:35] our golden red armor set.

[00:43:38] And then I would I would argue Steve Dicko's most major contribution

[00:43:46] to the comic book world is Spider-Man.

[00:43:51] Yeah. Wrote Spider-Man, drew Spider-Man,

[00:43:55] I would say between Steve Dicko and

[00:44:02] John Ramita, Jr. or John Ramita, senior, sorry.

[00:44:05] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:44:08] Those two guys, I would say, are most responsible

[00:44:11] for the Spider-Man we know and love today.

[00:44:16] Yeah, a lot there, right?

[00:44:17] So to answer your question, Ryan,

[00:44:21] the Disney Hall of Disney Legends goes back to 1987.

[00:44:29] Oh, wow. Further back than I remembered.

[00:44:32] And so it's intended to recognize folks in film and animation

[00:44:38] and publishing and imagining and music and just this kind of

[00:44:43] these broad categories, if you will, of folks who've made

[00:44:47] indelible impressions on the quote, unquote Disney legacy, if you will.

[00:44:52] And so

[00:44:55] from the publishing perspective, it's been three dudes.

[00:45:00] It's been Stanley, it's been Jack Kirby, Steve Dicko.

[00:45:03] And that's it.

[00:45:04] That's all there have been.

[00:45:07] The when you were listing, it's funny.

[00:45:10] Saying you're previewing Angela Bassett, you're like,

[00:45:13] everyone knows this person famous in the industry.

[00:45:17] Well, let's give it out to Kelly Rippa and

[00:45:23] it's yeah, it's it's it's weird because you like this year.

[00:45:29] When you look at some of the

[00:45:31] the folks who are being inducted, you've got like Steve Ditka,

[00:45:34] who's a legend, you've got Harrison Ford, you got John Williams.

[00:45:38] You got Joe Roddy, who from the men's airing side, Frank Oz.

[00:45:42] And then you've got like

[00:45:44] Miley Cyrus, like, OK, I guess maybe.

[00:45:48] You know the the

[00:45:51] like Hannah Montana is still like the fourth most viewed television show in history.

[00:45:56] I'm not surprised.

[00:45:57] My kids. Yeah, my kids.

[00:45:59] Yeah, it was I was like because somebody a few people have

[00:46:03] have like highlighted Miley Cyrus is like really.

[00:46:07] But I know it's I believe if I remember right,

[00:46:11] its premiere was the is still the most watched episode of,

[00:46:19] I believe, children's content on basic cable.

[00:46:21] Yeah. And and so for folks like Steve Ditko,

[00:46:25] like he was there from the very beginning.

[00:46:31] So back way, way, way back when it was Atlas, right?

[00:46:39] He was he did like the first, I don't know, like three dozen episodes of.

[00:46:45] Of Spider-Man, right?

[00:46:47] He helped create Doctor Strange.

[00:46:50] He helped, like you said, he helped revolutionize Iron Man.

[00:46:55] And, you know, so he wrote for Atlas left for a bit,

[00:46:59] you know, for the same reasons a lot of people after like, you know.

[00:47:04] Creative control and like royalty, like, you know,

[00:47:07] that just the yeah, Stanley was not always the easiest guy to work with.

[00:47:13] Let's just put it that way.

[00:47:15] Yeah, we're going to hold off on that one.

[00:47:16] But but good for Steve Ditko, like glad they got he was recognized.

[00:47:23] His imprint was really, really big on some really key characters.

[00:47:30] Like Doctor Strange. I mean, we're not naming them all.

[00:47:32] But like there's he had quite a legacy.

[00:47:34] Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.

[00:47:37] And, you know, definitely excited for him.

[00:47:39] And like I say, it comes too late if you ask me, I think,

[00:47:45] you know, if they wanted to do one publishing guy a year, maybe

[00:47:50] he could have he could have maybe come in third after Kirby and Stanley.

[00:47:56] But

[00:47:58] to this Roy Thomas, dude, there's a lot of people like

[00:48:02] the and the thing that was cool with like Ditko and like Thomas and others,

[00:48:06] like it's like imagine you were the writer and I'm the artist.

[00:48:11] And then it's this very kind of collaborative process, if you will.

[00:48:15] And what you kind of signaled to earlier was like that a lot of the

[00:48:19] creatives got really kind of, you know, kind of screwed out of owning

[00:48:24] their works that they created.

[00:48:25] And, you know, you and I, if we were in political marvel,

[00:48:29] way back when we wouldn't own any rights to the characters we developed.

[00:48:33] That's obviously changed the last thing, son.

[00:48:35] But at the time it was kind of it was kind of novel,

[00:48:39] led to a lot of people leaving Marvel jumping over DC, coming back

[00:48:43] from DC to Marvel.

[00:48:45] But I'm glad I'm glad I got I'm glad they're recognizing him.

[00:48:48] He, you know,

[00:48:49] Spider-Man is on its own, just such a huge character.

[00:48:53] So 100 percent.

[00:48:54] 100 percent. Yeah.

[00:48:55] So I think that's what's really important for them.

[00:48:57] 100 percent. Yeah.

[00:48:58] Spider-Man, Spider-Man is

[00:49:02] Spider-Man has at times been,

[00:49:05] I would say probably if you took the entire history of comics and averaged it out,

[00:49:10] I would say Spider-Man's probably Marvel's most famous, most popular property.

[00:49:17] If you took the whole of everything and just averaged it out,

[00:49:20] I would say Spider-Man's probably number one.

[00:49:23] So.

[00:49:25] Above hulkling.

[00:49:28] Yeah.

[00:49:30] You know, I will tell you that

[00:49:35] I can't even.

[00:49:36] I was just way deep out of it.

[00:49:39] I tried to come up.

[00:49:40] But I could.

[00:49:42] Yeah, I was like how this is not.

[00:49:45] I'm not scrolling through the Rolodex right deep.

[00:49:47] I'm like just a couple in.

[00:49:50] Right? Yeah.

[00:49:52] But but yeah, so super excited for that.

[00:49:56] I definitely I hope that they stream that

[00:50:00] ceremony because I think it'll be fun to watch there.

[00:50:03] Like you mentioned, this year there's a lot of really cool folks from across

[00:50:08] Nerddom, if you will.

[00:50:10] Harrison Ford's getting recognized and John Williams, who unfortunately

[00:50:15] has not ever done a Marvel movie, which

[00:50:19] like the one thing he hasn't done.

[00:50:23] But.

[00:50:25] Yeah, he's kind of old dude like we don't need him.

[00:50:28] If Frank Oz, who you know, you may know as the voice of

[00:50:32] Yoda or Fawzi Bear or

[00:50:36] so much. So I'm super excited.

[00:50:39] I'm also excited for D23 because I think we're going to get a lot of

[00:50:43] Marvel stuff.

[00:50:44] They so just this wasn't planned to be talked about.

[00:50:48] So I'm just going to give a quick rundown of D23

[00:50:51] and what I expect of it.

[00:50:53] It's going to be all the way in August, so we'll talk about it a little bit more

[00:50:55] through the summer.

[00:50:57] But there are three panels that they have split out.

[00:51:01] So for those of you who are not familiar with with like convention parlance,

[00:51:06] usually a lot of conventions, especially the bigger ones, there's kind of

[00:51:10] a big thing where people talk.

[00:51:14] Right? And there's there's a lot of these throughout the day that are

[00:51:17] called panels.

[00:51:18] And usually there's little ones kind of throughout the day where,

[00:51:21] you know, somebody is on there talking about whatever.

[00:51:24] But usually there's kind of some main event ones.

[00:51:28] And at D23, there's pretty traditionally three main events.

[00:51:32] In the past, it's been a little bit more than that because they've split

[00:51:34] out Star Wars and Marvel into kind of their own big panels.

[00:51:39] But for this year, they have announced that instead of doing

[00:51:44] these in like a convention center, they'll still do the

[00:51:48] expo. So like where you walk around and look for merch and do all that fun stuff,

[00:51:52] that'll still be in the convention center.

[00:51:54] But they are shuttling everybody to the Anaheim.

[00:51:59] The Anaheim.

[00:52:02] Used to be the pond.

[00:52:04] I can't think of what it's called now.

[00:52:05] Honda Center. No.

[00:52:06] Honda Center. Thank you.

[00:52:07] Yep. They're shuttling everyone to the Honda Center

[00:52:11] to do these big panels, big event kind of things.

[00:52:16] It's sold out like everything, except for the most premium seats that are

[00:52:20] like 10 grand or something crazy like that.

[00:52:22] That's less than 10 grand.

[00:52:24] It's like a grand.

[00:52:25] But still crazy amounts of money for these seats.

[00:52:28] Everything but the super premium seats are all sold out

[00:52:31] and they're doing three nights.

[00:52:33] Night one is basically movies and TV.

[00:52:38] So that's when we'll probably get some Marvel announcements.

[00:52:42] I do expect that on that night, we will get, you know,

[00:52:45] some some clarity as to what comes next in the MCU.

[00:52:49] We might, you know, we will probably get a Thunderbolts trailer if I had to guess.

[00:52:57] So that's going to be night one.

[00:52:59] Night two is Parks and Experiences.

[00:53:02] Parks and Experiences.

[00:53:03] That's, you know, the cruise line.

[00:53:06] That's the parks, that sort of stuff.

[00:53:08] We may get some Marvel stuff there, if I'm being honest.

[00:53:10] I do know that some of the cruise ships have Marvel stuff.

[00:53:14] In fact, I'm going on one of those cruise ships here at the beginning of May.

[00:53:18] And then I do expect that we'll we'll also get some new some Marvel related news

[00:53:25] about the big Avengers Campus ride.

[00:53:28] I think that they'll probably do something big with that during those announcements.

[00:53:33] So and then night three is the

[00:53:37] legend ceremony where they honor these folks who are being inducted as

[00:53:42] Marvel or as Disney legends.

[00:53:43] So so yeah, cool stuff.

[00:53:46] Definitely looking forward to August for that.

[00:53:50] So with that all being said, David, why don't we go ahead?

[00:53:53] We're going to take a quick commercial break and then come back to these folks

[00:53:57] with the last couple of stories we got.

[00:54:00] It's amazing that you never see these heroes hydrate.

[00:54:02] I mean, there's no way that they went through the whole battle of New York

[00:54:05] without needing to crush a water break or something.

[00:54:07] I know for me, I can't even make it through the work day without my water bottle.

[00:54:10] For those days where water alone just doesn't cut it,

[00:54:12] I love to add some liquid IV to the mix.

[00:54:14] Their little tubes make it super convenient to toss them in a backpack

[00:54:18] and go on an adventure.

[00:54:19] For me, the lemon lime flavor is really the best.

[00:54:21] It's almost like a little margarita, but it helps your hangover instead of causing one.

[00:54:26] One stick of liquid IV in 16 ounces of water hydrates you two times faster

[00:54:31] and more efficiently than water alone.

[00:54:32] Real people, real flavor, real hydrating.

[00:54:35] Get 20% off when you go to liquid IV.com

[00:54:40] and use the code PUNYPOD at checkout.

[00:54:43] That's 20% off of anything you order when you shop better hydration today

[00:54:46] using promo code PUNYPOD.

[00:54:49] That's P-U-N-Y-P-O-D at liquid IV.com.

[00:54:54] And we are back.

[00:54:56] All right.

[00:54:57] So David, I'm actually going to pass it over to you for some happy

[00:55:01] birthdays in the MCU.

[00:55:03] Happy birthdays.

[00:55:05] So I was listening to a ringer pod nerd podcast

[00:55:11] and mentioned, and I had forgotten entirely,

[00:55:15] that it was the 10th anniversary of Captain America

[00:55:20] Winter Soldier, which was released April 4, 2014.

[00:55:24] Dang, 10 years ago.

[00:55:25] I know, right?

[00:55:26] And then I was like, well, what else was released in April?

[00:55:28] Because like if you think of, you know, when you think of the calendar,

[00:55:30] there are some months that are kind of prime, Marvel months.

[00:55:34] You think of April, you think of May, you think of like July,

[00:55:37] you think of later in the year.

[00:55:40] And we have Captain America Winter Soldier, 10th anniversary,

[00:55:46] April 4, 2014, Infinity War, April 27, 2018

[00:55:53] and Avengers Endgame, 5th anniversary, April 26, 2019.

[00:55:59] Brian, does it seem like it's been five years since you've seen Endgame

[00:56:03] in a movie theater?

[00:56:04] Dude, no.

[00:56:06] It's so wild that 2020 time warp is so real.

[00:56:12] I it feels like I've lived like three timelines.

[00:56:16] Like dog years.

[00:56:17] 2020. Yeah.

[00:56:19] It's insane.

[00:56:21] But like, yeah, so we're watching Watching Guardians 2

[00:56:26] and that came out in 2017.

[00:56:28] And I'm like, oh, let me flash.

[00:56:29] But what happened in 2017?

[00:56:30] Oh, 2017, maybe not a great year.

[00:56:33] And yeah, I you know, looking.

[00:56:37] So what they're doing is they're taking their look at the 10th

[00:56:40] anniversary of Winter Soldier and they're talking about their top 10

[00:56:45] moments, which I thought was kind of interesting.

[00:56:50] But I just like taking a moment like this is all phase three

[00:56:54] and we have evolved, you know, and God, we've seen so many movies

[00:56:58] since then. We're dude, we're in the middle.

[00:57:00] We're like, we're starting at kind of beginning of phase three.

[00:57:04] We're going to like we're going to be through phase three.

[00:57:07] Like, I don't know.

[00:57:09] I just it gave me this kind of goosebumps moment of like how excited

[00:57:13] I am for the rest of the movies that we're going to see.

[00:57:16] Dude, in this next year.

[00:57:18] This year, this year is such a good year.

[00:57:21] And it's phase three is so good.

[00:57:26] And then I'm genuinely excited for us to get to phase four, if I'm being honest,

[00:57:29] like not to take away from phase three phase three is amazing.

[00:57:33] Obviously, like we're going to be doing, you know,

[00:57:37] end game is probably one of the best movies of my entire life.

[00:57:41] Like.

[00:57:44] Bar like definitely one of the best ones I've ever seen.

[00:57:47] But I'm excited for us to get like a little bit more caught up

[00:57:52] because it's stuff that I haven't rewatched.

[00:57:54] It's stuff that I like watched once and then never rewatch.

[00:57:57] So I'm kind of excited to get to that, too.

[00:57:59] Yeah. So again, little, little happy birthday.

[00:58:02] Well, we will maybe going forward,

[00:58:05] recognize in each month the movies that are celebrating it

[00:58:09] like a birthday fuel, but like 10 years in civil war.

[00:58:13] That's wild.

[00:58:15] It seems a lot like if you were to again, like you said,

[00:58:19] winter soldier, not civil war, but so you would have.

[00:58:21] So sorry, yeah, but like if the the.

[00:58:26] Evolution of time like I I know it came out.

[00:58:29] I know it came out in 2014.

[00:58:32] It seems like it came out like if you were to say like

[00:58:34] if I might like six years ago, maybe right?

[00:58:37] Like, yeah, I was like right before the pandemic,

[00:58:40] but like I'm not that long for it.

[00:58:43] I would have a link. So yeah, it's been as long.

[00:58:46] It's been as long between between now and civil war

[00:58:52] and winter soldier as it was from Iron Man to end game.

[00:58:58] Oh, wow.

[00:59:00] That's wild.

[00:59:02] Yeah.

[00:59:04] Yeah, puts put some things in perspective about

[00:59:07] how how escalating the MCU has been.

[00:59:10] Yeah. So happy birthdays.

[00:59:15] Yeah, great. All three movies for sure.

[00:59:17] For sure.

[00:59:19] All right now to a last story or story here, which will probably,

[00:59:23] honestly, if I'm if I'm being super honest,

[00:59:26] this is going to most likely become a every year.

[00:59:30] I talk about this kind of thing in the April bugle.

[00:59:34] So

[00:59:37] for those of you who are not familiar with comics or not,

[00:59:40] you know, not terribly familiar,

[00:59:43] maybe you don't don't pay a whole lot of attention to them.

[00:59:46] There is kind of a big holiday in the comic book world called

[00:59:50] Free Comic Book Day.

[00:59:52] So the first Saturday in May, every single year is Free

[00:59:56] Comic Book Day.

[00:59:58] This started as an effort for

[01:00:02] to try and get kids into reading very honestly,

[01:00:05] trying to increase literacy,

[01:00:07] trying to increase interest in comic books.

[01:00:11] And so on the first Saturday in May,

[01:00:15] which this year happens to be May 4th,

[01:00:18] you can go down to your

[01:00:20] friendly local comic book shop and you can pick up some free comics.

[01:00:25] It's also kind of like a mini Black Friday for most comic book shops

[01:00:29] from the comic book shop owners that I've talked to,

[01:00:33] you know, that they kind of count on Free Comic Book Day to bring in a lot of people.

[01:00:38] They do a lot of business those days.

[01:00:39] A lot of times they're doing like sales and stuff.

[01:00:42] So if if you are curious about this, definitely go,

[01:00:47] you know, go to Google search for your local comic book shop.

[01:00:50] You can also go to free comic book day dot com.

[01:00:54] And they do have a find your local retailer link there

[01:00:57] that you can put in and try and find your friendly local

[01:01:01] comic book shop and you go go enjoy it.

[01:01:06] It's a really good time.

[01:01:07] I've I've taken part in Free Comic Book Day from a few facets.

[01:01:12] I've been just the average customer who's walking in and grabbing his free comics

[01:01:16] and going on with his day.

[01:01:18] I've also helped run it for some comic book shops.

[01:01:21] I have showed up in my Ewok cosplay.

[01:01:24] I've helped set it up.

[01:01:25] I've helped pass out the comics.

[01:01:28] I've done all kinds of stuff for Free Comic Book Day.

[01:01:30] So it is a really, really fun time.

[01:01:34] It's a really cool way to celebrate kind of the the community around comics.

[01:01:39] And so I would definitely encourage everyone to get down to their local

[01:01:43] comic book shop on May 4th.

[01:01:45] Unfortunately, I won't be able to as I will be out of town.

[01:01:48] Although maybe I can find a comic book shop in the Orlando area to get to.

[01:01:53] But Marvel

[01:01:57] And I talked about this on the monthly bugle way, way back.

[01:02:00] I think it was in November when this got announced.

[01:02:02] I talked about what Marvel's titles were for Free Comic Book Day because they

[01:02:08] do announce them pretty far in advance.

[01:02:11] But I just wanted to give a quick rundown of what what titles are available

[01:02:17] from Marvel on Free Comic Book Day.

[01:02:20] And I do want to note that like most of these are, you know,

[01:02:25] they're they're certainly more like appetizer or like teasers, if you will.

[01:02:31] They're not really, you know, it is a comic, you can read it,

[01:02:35] but it's definitely meant to entice you into more.

[01:02:39] So I can't so I was confused.

[01:02:42] I thought Free Comic Book Day was like the purge and I could just show up

[01:02:45] and grab whatever I want, any comic book, grab it for really?

[01:02:51] Oh, no, I had that wrong.

[01:02:53] Sorry, guys.

[01:02:55] Well, it's actually fun.

[01:02:56] I asked, I honestly did think the very first time I heard about Free Comic Book Day,

[01:03:01] I thought it was like you show up to the comic book shop and you get one comic

[01:03:06] off the shelf for free.

[01:03:07] I thought I was just like, pick a comic, you get it for free.

[01:03:10] Enjoy that comic.

[01:03:11] That's not what it is.

[01:03:13] The all the publishers put out special titles.

[01:03:16] And for those of you who are comic book readers,

[01:03:19] it's also a really great time to try out some other series that you haven't

[01:03:23] tried out before.

[01:03:24] It's it I've found some some series that way,

[01:03:29] just picking up things that I was like, oh, yeah, this is interesting.

[01:03:33] It differs store by store.

[01:03:35] Some stores do, you know, a two to issue limit.

[01:03:38] Some do a four issue limit.

[01:03:40] It kind of varies store to store.

[01:03:41] So check with your your local folks to be sure.

[01:03:45] But

[01:03:47] but yeah, so to give us a rundown of the titles that we have available

[01:03:52] for Free Comic Book Day 2024.

[01:03:55] First up is Spider-Man and the Ultimate Universe.

[01:03:59] So the Ultimate Universe, which is Earth 1610,

[01:04:04] has been making its way back into the comics.

[01:04:07] I'm actually reading the the reintroduction story

[01:04:12] called Ultimate Invasion right now in Marvel Unlimited.

[01:04:17] But

[01:04:19] Spider-Man is going to interact with the Ultimate Universe,

[01:04:25] including a the Green Goblin is back.

[01:04:29] So really good time there.

[01:04:32] That's going to be kind of your main line

[01:04:35] used to the heroes you're used to seeing if you're a big MCU fan.

[01:04:39] This is probably the one that's going to be the most interesting to you,

[01:04:43] I would say.

[01:04:46] So yeah, that's that's the first one up next here.

[01:04:49] We do have a double issue.

[01:04:51] So a lot of Marvel has been starting to do kind of a double issue sort of situation

[01:04:55] where they they pair kind of two stories together for Free Comic Book Day.

[01:05:02] So the double issue here is Blood Hunt,

[01:05:05] which is a story that starts in May.

[01:05:09] It's a vampire apocalypse.

[01:05:11] All your big Avengers are fighting

[01:05:15] the are fighting a vampire apocalypse.

[01:05:20] So that one should be fun.

[01:05:22] And then the second story in that same issue is a X-Men story.

[01:05:30] Centered around Jubilee, where we're seeing the future of mutant kind.

[01:05:36] So that one, for those of you who have read comics in the past or that sort of thing,

[01:05:42] that one probably is going to be pretty interesting.

[01:05:44] It's a lot of your classic characters.

[01:05:46] It's a lot of your kind of classic storyline.

[01:05:48] For those of you who are just movie fans, I would say this one might get a

[01:05:53] little bit weird for you.

[01:05:54] It might be a little bit mystical, a little bit weird.

[01:05:56] Whenever vampires are in the MCU, it gets kind of strange.

[01:06:00] So, you know, for those of you who are just movies fans,

[01:06:04] that one might be, you know, give it a try.

[01:06:07] But I would definitely suggest that Ultimate Universe one primarily.

[01:06:15] Up next, we have Marvel's voices, which is an imprint that they have been doing

[01:06:20] to highlight more underrepresented characters and artists and writers.

[01:06:28] So for this one, there's actually quite a few stories.

[01:06:32] So we've got Spider-Man India.

[01:06:36] We've got Black Panther.

[01:06:37] We've got Webweaver.

[01:06:39] We've got Spider-Gwen.

[01:06:41] We've got

[01:06:43] Spider-Man of Mumbai.

[01:06:47] So quite a few different

[01:06:50] kind of stories here with kind of, like I say, underrepresented characters.

[01:06:56] And the Marvel voices line is actually one that they've done several of.

[01:07:01] And usually they're kind of based around a theme.

[01:07:03] So I think they've done like an API Marvel voices.

[01:07:07] I know that they've done a LGBTQIA

[01:07:12] Marvel voices, so definitely like to see that one.

[01:07:17] I think that one's a really good time.

[01:07:19] And I would suggest anyone pick those up.

[01:07:21] It's kind of cool to see the stuff that doesn't always get all the shine.

[01:07:25] So love to see that one.

[01:07:27] That's cool. Yeah.

[01:07:29] And then moving away from mainline Marvel stuff a little bit, but the very first

[01:07:37] free comic book day Star Wars comic will be Star Wars and Darth Vader.

[01:07:44] It's a double double issue here.

[01:07:46] So we've got Luke, Leia, Lando and Chewie going to rescue folks,

[01:07:56] survivors from the Echo base on Hoth.

[01:07:59] So that should be really fun.

[01:08:01] And then on the Darth Vader story,

[01:08:06] we get a it's teased as a surprise character will be helping Darth Vader try

[01:08:14] and find Luke Skywalker.

[01:08:19] And so that that story right now is kind of what Vader's doing in the background.

[01:08:26] That one's pretty cool.

[01:08:28] Obviously, for those Star Wars fans out there, go pick that up.

[01:08:33] Last but not least,

[01:08:35] one that I probably if I get to a comic book shop on Free Comic Book Day,

[01:08:39] I will pick up they always tend to do one for the kids.

[01:08:43] And right now their biggest kid friendly property is Spidey and his amazing

[01:08:48] friends. My son loves watching that show.

[01:08:52] He'll probably tear a comic book comic book to shreds.

[01:08:56] But it'll be a fun time while he does it.

[01:08:58] So this one is Spidey and his amazing friends for those not familiar with Spidey and

[01:09:03] his amazing friends.

[01:09:04] It's this kind of chibi three day 3D animation

[01:09:09] starring Spider-Man,

[01:09:12] Spider-Man Peter Parker, as well as Spider-Man Miles Morales, who goes by

[01:09:16] spin in the in Spidey and his amazing friends.

[01:09:19] And then Spider Gwen, who goes by ghosty or ghost spider.

[01:09:24] So it is say it does say that it's perfect for readers aged five to seven.

[01:09:31] You know, obviously,

[01:09:33] if your kiddos are a fan or fans of Spidey and his amazing friends,

[01:09:38] I'm sure they'd love to read it as well.

[01:09:41] Again, a really great way to get into comics

[01:09:44] and kind of experience that in a way that doesn't require

[01:09:49] monetary investment or a whole lot of time.

[01:09:52] Like, honestly, as much as I said, like these are teasers,

[01:09:55] these are little bits and bobs of stories.

[01:09:58] It also is it also makes it easy to read and makes it like you don't have to sit

[01:10:03] for an afternoon and read a whole comic or try and catch up on a whole bunch

[01:10:07] of stories, you can just read this one.

[01:10:09] Yeah, when you especially when you start talking about like the

[01:10:14] what do they call them when they've got the buying the ones that are bound

[01:10:17] together and they've got like.

[01:10:18] Oh yeah, like the omnibuses or.

[01:10:21] Yeah, that's how I started reading.

[01:10:24] Other of the few things was reading some Walking Dead.

[01:10:27] They had the compendiums.

[01:10:29] That was called camera.

[01:10:31] They have a few names.

[01:10:32] Yeah. And so,

[01:10:34] yeah, go get a comic book and comics are fun.

[01:10:37] They are they are.

[01:10:39] And very, very honestly, like I know that popular media has kind of painted

[01:10:44] a certain picture of comic book stores.

[01:10:47] I would genuinely suggest go go on Free Comic Book Day, experience the community

[01:10:53] at your store.

[01:10:55] I I would not be doing this podcast today if it were not for my comic book shop.

[01:11:02] So shouts out my local comic book shops.

[01:11:06] I will say my primary that I used to have a pull box at.

[01:11:11] And I just don't have a pull box now anymore.

[01:11:13] But was Olympus Games and comics up in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

[01:11:20] Shout out to Kyle,

[01:11:22] aka my my government funded twin.

[01:11:27] And then we're going to come back to that.

[01:11:30] If you if you go if anybody is listening and they go to Olympus Games and comics

[01:11:35] and they see a large band that's, you know, I'm going there now.

[01:11:42] A little, a little bit less than average height.

[01:11:46] I'm on it listeners.

[01:11:47] Don't worry.

[01:11:49] And he he has a beard.

[01:11:51] He he is that one of my best friends.

[01:11:54] He's the he's one of the owners there.

[01:11:56] And he looks just like me.

[01:11:59] So if you know me, you know what Kyle looks like to the point where

[01:12:03] I actually officiated his wedding and one of his family members said,

[01:12:08] did you get this guy to officiate just as like a prank?

[01:12:11] Because he looks so much like you.

[01:12:15] That's too funny.

[01:12:16] So go check them out.

[01:12:18] Also, you know, if you're the Fort Collins area, there's also

[01:12:23] Griffin Games and comics.

[01:12:25] I go way back with them as well.

[01:12:27] So check them out.

[01:12:30] But and and yeah, go check out your your local comic book shop.

[01:12:35] It is a good time.

[01:12:36] You know, they're they're typically kind of hang out loiter friendly.

[01:12:40] It's a great place to to kill a couple hours.

[01:12:44] I've even taken my son who's year and a half old.

[01:12:47] I took him when he was about a year old up to Olympus and kind of let him just

[01:12:52] kind of look at the colors and stuff.

[01:12:54] And it's it's a good time.

[01:12:56] It's a good time.

[01:12:57] I would say, you know, in my experience, I think

[01:13:02] the collector style shops that kind of sell the that specialize in selling

[01:13:09] old school comics rather than current runs.

[01:13:13] They tend to be a little bit more musty dusty, but they can also be a good time

[01:13:17] to, you know, everybody's just out for for the fun of it.

[01:13:21] So go check those out.

[01:13:23] And yeah, it's it's a good time.

[01:13:27] That is for sure.

[01:13:28] Yeah, super fun.

[01:13:29] And if you're in the Fort Collins area and you're at the comic

[01:13:32] store, send Ryan an email.

[01:13:34] He will meet up with you.

[01:13:36] He will give you some swag for the for the main show and keep by your comic book.

[01:13:44] So yeah, put me on the spot here.

[01:13:47] Thanks, David.

[01:13:49] No, no, but seriously, yeah, if you're

[01:13:52] genuinely, if you are in the Fort Collins area,

[01:13:56] you know, let me know.

[01:13:59] We'll see if we can meet up.

[01:14:34] We've got the Supreme Resort who do

[01:14:40] Land v. World type stuff, so Disneyland versus Disney World.

[01:14:44] And then we've got our flagship show here, Ears Up.

[01:14:50] I'm also I'm starting to do.

[01:14:53] You guys may have heard me talk about this in the past, but

[01:14:55] we're kind of tinkering around with starting back up with the Walkabouts.

[01:15:00] They were previously a Patreon perk, but we're going to move them out from behind

[01:15:04] the paywall and that's where Jason from the flagship show and myself

[01:15:09] kind of take a journey into the depths of YouTube and that sort of stuff.

[01:15:13] So we're going to we're playing around with that.

[01:15:17] We did the first kind of new version of it last night.

[01:15:19] It was a good time.

[01:15:20] So.

[01:15:22] So keep your ears out for that.

[01:15:25] Join the Discord, join the Ears Up Discord links always in the show notes for that.

[01:15:31] And I think I think that's everything.

[01:15:34] David, did I miss anything?

[01:15:36] You got everything. I think we're good.

[01:15:38] Sweet. Well, with that being said, enough said.
