This episode of Fantasyland Draft League has a twist: Ryan and co-host Erik (@ericpodd) are joined by the man who literally wrote their theme music, composer JR Trimpe (trimpe.org), and Dan, host of Bowiesplaining, The Supreme Resort, and Scraping the Vault, to build cohesive front-to-back Disney music albums in serpentine draft order. Five picks. One album. No guarantee it holds together.
Ryan goes in knowing he is the least musical person in the room and leans into it, building an album entirely out of covers and remixes that nobody saw coming. Dan arrives with a clear artistic vision, a deliberate emotional arc, and picks that prompt at least one wellness check joke before the draft is over. JR — the professional composer — builds something encyclopedic, uses his music knowledge to drop facts about every pick, and makes one selection in round three that takes an entire franchise off the board for everyone else in a single move. Erik has a secret theme. Nobody figures it out until pick four.
Does a closing credits suite count as one song? Can an album made entirely of villain songs have a closer? And is Ryan's album just a pop punk compilation with extra steps?
The draft order was determined by who appeared on screen. Erik, who set the order, gave himself the hot corner. He has no regrets.
