[00:00:03] It's time for the show that brings the magic right to your speakers. EarzUp! Hey, what's happening everybody? EarzUp Podcast, the news show. All the news that's, you know, ready for your face. And that's what we always say right here. We've always said it, we always will. We'll never say anything different other than that. What's going on everyone? My name is Jason, of course, you guys know that.

[00:00:30] But I don't know why I had to tell you that, you know that. It's just one of those things I do, man. You just kind of get in your head. With me today is our good friend Ryan. RGH is sitting in for Eric. Eric's out. And Taryn is also out, but they're not out together. Taryn is putting Alice to bed. Eric is out. So Ryan is filling in today. Ryan, welcome to the news show. Woo! Thanks for having me.

[00:00:57] I hope that I can, you know, carry the weight of my also bearded brother, Eric. That's true. I hope so too. I think, you know what? I think you'll be fine. I think you'll do okay. I'm not worried about it. I'm not worried about it at all. Yeah, we have some good stuff to talk about for sure. There's a lot happening. I think the earnings call was the other day for the company for a quarter to some interesting things came out of that.

[00:01:27] I don't know that I have any of those to talk about. I think Taryn does. But it was interesting just to wrap about it, like how much money those parks are making and then how much the summer, you know, kind of discounts and everything really helped to boost park attendance in a way that was like 3% or something like that. Yeah, it's crazy because, like, I mean, being in the travel industry for some of the stuff I do, right, I know travel's down, right?

[00:01:57] Yeah. Travel's kind of down as an industry across the board because, you know, you can't afford plane tickets when the gas is crazy. Yeah. And, yeah, to see that earning, I definitely expected way worse performance out of that earnings call for sure. Yeah, absolutely. I think a lot of people did too. I think everyone was kind of surprised, you know, but it was beaten. You know, streaming did really good for them. So, I mean, the company seems to be pretty, you know, doing pretty good.

[00:02:26] But I will say that in either one of the calls or one of the statements DeMar made or whatever, they kind of outlined, and I hadn't seen this yet previous, but I'm sure it's been out there, how they're going to be leaning into AI to help you plan your vacations and stuff and whatever. I'm like, oh. Yeah. Here's my take on that. I actually put an Instagram post out on this, a reel out on this when they announced it a while back.

[00:02:56] I think that AI, because AI is really good at making very generic things, right? Like, it's super good at making a very generic item. And so, I think that AI planner is going to be great for the people who go like once a year, right? It's going to be fine, the people who go once a year.

[00:03:16] But anybody who's anything off from the exact, like, target market, it's going to plan them a trip that they'll have fun with, but it's not going to be the best trip that they have, right? Like, if you've got a kid who has sensory issues that you need to plan for, or if it's like a once-in-a-lifetime trip or something like that, the AI is not going to take care of that well. No. I don't think. No, it can't. It can't do everything for everybody. And I think you're right. It's not designed to.

[00:03:45] It's going to be very generic, very general. Like, oh, well, we'll help you align your time slots to do stuff. And that's kind of it. You know what I mean? It can't be super crazy. That would be impossible. That's so much compute to do. So, I think you're probably right about that. I think you're probably right about that. Speaking of things that are right with the world, I guess. I don't know. I got some new merch in the Etsy store, dude. It's this new Pirates and Mansion skater dad cap.

[00:04:15] Nice. You know, with the old skater dye font on it. Like, I have the shirt. But this is a little hat. And this one is camo. But it doesn't have to be in camo. It's like, you know, tan and some other colors. So, check those out, too. I don't know. I'm pretty happy with the way they came out. I did the churro logo. My death metal churros logo. Or the font. I'm on my shirt currently. There you go. I couldn't tell. I mean, you know, with your beard hanging in. That doesn't come out so good on a hat.

[00:04:45] I mean, you can kind of tell. But it's kind of difficult. But I like this. I don't know. It's pretty sick. So, if you're looking for a new cap, you know, check it out. Go to our Etsy page, which is, I don't know, ears up or whatever it is. Etsy something or other. And while we're plugging, let's just do plugs right now. Patreon.com slash ears up. If you guys want to support this show and all the other shows across the network, it pays our bills. And we really do appreciate it. So, go jump over to Patreon.com slash ears up. Five bucks a month or more if you're in the giving mood.

[00:05:15] But I know the economy is awful right now. So, you know, appreciate anything. But, yeah, sign up. You know, there's a bunch of audio that you can download, you know, previous shows, previous secret shows. You know, previous shows the Buena Vista Boys have done there. Previous shows that Ryan here has done. A bunch of those from Puny Pod and everything. So, a lot of different content that you don't get to see on the normal feed. So, if you want some extra content, that's pretty good if I do say so myself. Check it out. It would be very helpful.

[00:05:44] And, not to mention, if you're tired of the ads that you hear on Spotify and Megaphone, which is our platform provider of choice, because it's the cheapest, they have a free feed. An ad-free feed. So, when you become a Patreon supporter, you get an ad-free separate feed that you put into a different podcast reader. And you don't have to listen to the ads. What do you think of that? That's so nice.

[00:06:10] And, yeah, honestly, the Puny Pod stuff that's up there, David and I joke about that being our best content. So, yeah. Nice dude. Definitely. It's some good stuff. Yeah. Some of our secret shows, probably the older ones, too, are some of our best work. You know? But time she marches on. And you just keep producing content after content after content. And that's about it. That's all we do. Well, why don't we start with some news, Ryan? What's going on? Let's do it. Actually, you know, before that, what's happening over on Puny Pod? Yeah.

[00:06:40] Or on your side of the world, with the podcast world. Yeah, on my side of the podcast world. So, Puny Pod should have a new episode out. I'm editing it right now. It should be out Tuesday of next week at time of recording. So, sometime around when this releases, you'll see a new monthly Bugle where we talk about the new Spider-Man movie, which I'll talk a little bit about in my news stories. I also put together kind of a primer for, like, there's Doomsday coming up, right?

[00:07:09] Avengers Doomsday is coming up this year. So, I put together a quick primer of, like, what to watch, what to skip, that sort of stuff. Would you say you were doomsday prepping? Ha-ha! Prepping for Doomsday. That's what I should title it. Yeah. Just gave me my title. There you go, man. That's what I do. I'm an ideas guy. I can't execute for anything, but I'll give you an idea, man. And then my other show, Fantasyland Draft League, new episode out any minute.

[00:07:38] It'll, if you're listening live, probably come out tomorrow if I get around to editing it. Where Eric, myself, and then Dan from the Supreme Resort and JR who makes all the themes for pretty much all the other shows on the network. Um, we all got together and we put together, we each drafted a five song album of Disney music.

[00:08:07] Uh, so, the rule was it had to be kind of, like, cohesive. Um, and it was really fun. It was really, really fun. Each one of us drafted in, like, totally different directions. Yeah. Uh, but it was a blast. Nice, dude. Love it. Uh, okay, you know what? Why do you want me to start or do you want to start, Ryan? What's going on here? We got to figure this out. Taryn's not here for me to throw it to, so. My, my two stories are maybe a little bit longer, so do you want to start with one of yours and then get into mine? We can do that. Uh, you know what? This is a real quick one.

[00:08:37] Um, I wanted to cover it last time on the, on the show. I think it was on the main show. We talked about price increases at the park for food. Well, lately there's been a few more prices that have gone up a little bit. At Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar. And I, I don't know. I, okay, look. To rewind a bit. Some of my stories, I, I think they are, they all lean towards the complainy side. And I don't mean for them to be complaining, but it's stuff that bugs me. You know, I mean, the price changes are just information.

[00:09:04] Like, you should know that pork gyozas at, uh, Trader Sam's are $2 more expensive. They're 20 bucks now. That's crazy. But I don't mean to, I feel like sometimes just pointing that out looks like, or sounds like I'm, I'm complaining about it. I'm not. Cause I would never get them anyways, because there's like, I don't know. What do you get? Four or six. It does. It's not worth it to me. Right. No, you gotta get the green beans. That's what you gotta get. Yeah. I don't even, I don't know, man. There's so much. I think the best thing at Trader Sam's is the flatbread.

[00:09:35] Hmm. The pizza. I don't know that I've had the flatbread. It's just, I mean, cause you can't screw it up. Yeah. I don't know. I just, it seems like, anyway, whatever. The pork gyozas, 18 to 20 bucks now. That's their 20 bucks. The Angus Hawaiian cheeseburger. That is $31 now. Up from 28. I don't know, man. That, I mean, beef is a wild price right now. Beef is wild. Yeah. But that's a 31, first, a $28 burger.

[00:10:04] That is something you get when you're like an uh-oh into your night and you go, you know what? I'm kind of, I'm kind of hungry. I didn't really, why not 28 bucks? This hamburger should be good. You know, give me another, give me a piranha float drink or whatever it is. That's the, that's when you go for a, for one of those burgers. $31 is a. Gordon Ramsay moves in next door and suddenly all your prices are going up. Yeah, that's true, man. But, um, the Dole Whip float with a splash of rum, which I've never had before, but it

[00:10:34] does sound, you know, tolerable. Uh, that is now 19 bucks. Only up from $1. Only up $1 from 18. Okay. Over at the Plaza Inn, the breakfast pricing has increased from 55 bucks to 58 per adult and to 35 per child. That's such a small, like weird increase to that. It's like, that's some pencil pusher just said, we got to make this increase, right?

[00:11:00] That's all, that's all these are is that like, they're just, you know, having been on the other side of these before where it's like, it's just a percentage in the spreadsheet and then everything rounds up off of that. Right. So it's like, you know, what is that? 55 to 58. I can't do math that fast. Three bucks. Yeah. Well, no, but like the percentage increase. Oh, I got you. Like 2% or something. It takes nothing. It's nothing. On paper, it's nothing. But it's those little nickel and dime things. Like two, three years ago, what was the price? I don't know.

[00:11:30] You know what I mean? So you just, you do it. That's what Disney does. That's, that's, that's the game. Do it a little bit at a time every, you know, every quarter. Brunch and dinner pricing has increased at Goofy's Kitchen also. Brunch has changed from 64 to $67. Six, seven. Six, seven. And $38 per child. Child dinner is now $76 per adult up from $69. Nice. That's me not doing that. Dude.

[00:11:58] And 43 bucks per child for dinner, for dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. I mean, it's the experience. You get Goofy. Oh, yeah. The whole thing. But like, I don't know, man. Maybe it's worth it. Maybe it's worth it to you. I don't know. But you should know. Like if you were looking at the prices before, you're like, hey, that sounds good. You should know they're not what they were. Yeah. I mean, the play there is the brunch, right? I've heard like the food at Goofy's Kitchen is nothing special. So just do the brunch, get all the characters, then head into the park for the day.

[00:12:28] Like it cannot be anything special. It absolutely. I think we ate there one time. It's I mean, I don't even remember. It's just a buffet. It's just it's hotel food. It's not anything special. It is literally you're paying for the characters, which is cool. And that's what you do. And you can do that. And you get a little time with them. And, you know, that's what it is. But just be aware of that going into it. No one goes, man, you know what I'm hankering for? The I don't know, pancake knobs at Goofy's Kitchen.

[00:12:56] I don't know what pancake knob is, but sounds good to me. Yeah. I mean, what a Mickey waffle. That's probably most exciting you get. Brian. Brian's in the chat. He's chiming in his most egregious price increases. Churro toffee going up to 949. Man, that's crazy, dude. Just the fact that churros are over six bucks now blows me away. Yeah, absolutely blows me away. Freaks me out a little bit. It's not. Yeah. Yeah. It's brutal.

[00:13:26] And that's we were talking about the earnings call. Right. And like visitors are not up necessarily, I don't think. But revenue is. And that's how they do it. I mean. Yeah. Well, attendance was up 3%. Was it? Was it? Yeah. But, you know, with I forget how they phrased it because I'm not I'm not a smart man when it comes to stuff like that.

[00:13:51] And I know they phrase these things a lot in a way to make everything sound either better or so confusing that you just go, oh, that's great. Which is I'm in that the latter camp. But I think it's it's just cumulatively like people are there more because they have all these deals. Yeah. But they didn't lose any money on ticket sales, I think, because of the extra spend in the park or something like that. That's the way I read it really briefly.

[00:14:17] Obviously, no one of these increases is is so much that it's going to break your vacation or anything like that. But it never will. Right. Right. That's the whole point. That's what they do. Yeah. So anyway, just a PSA there. There's a couple extra food items that are a little bit more expensive than they used to be. That's all I had, Ryan. I don't know if you want to. I can I can do my main story, but, you know, or if you want. I can jump in. I can talk. I got some DCL news to cover here. Do it, man. Do it.

[00:14:46] Remind me what DCL is and then I'll let you know. Disney Cruise Line. DCL. That makes sense. Hey, we're here now. I thought I wish I had a better joke for that. We're on the Disney podcast. What's going on on the cruise line? So, yeah, cruise line. You might remember back D23, 2024, last D23. They announced they were going to be expanding the fleet pretty extensively. I think they said something like up to 13 ships by 2031.

[00:15:16] Wow. That's their goal. That's wild. Yeah. It's crazy. And it and throughout this story, it's going to get even crazier. So buckle in. Earlier this year, they announced the next ship, which is currently being built over in Germany. It's in the wish class. So it's the same size as the wish. The treasure, the adventure, the destiny, kind of the 4000 person boat, if you will.

[00:15:45] They announced that it's going to be called the Disney Believe. Of course it is. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I think the next one is the Disney Hope. If I had to guess, because like when they announced Believe, they like the video they posted, the script used every word that's one of the ship names. And then in that segment, the last thing they said was like hope or something like that. I was like, God, what you're doing?

[00:16:14] But that's also a really terrible ship name. They kind of all are. Are they all kind of seem like something you would say when the ship is in a storm and you don't want it to sink? Like, I believe that we'll be okay. I hope that we're going to be fine. Something about the Disney Hope just strikes me as like that's just going to be a full time make a wish ship that. Yeah, exactly. Which would be kind of sick, to be honest with you. No pun intended. Oh, for sure. Yeah.

[00:16:41] That'd be pretty neat, honestly, to be like, hey, that's all we do, man. We just go around and pick up sick kids and give them a treat. Yeah. Well, we did get our first substantial look at the Disney Believe earlier this week. There was a new teaser that they posted probably with some actual character reveals. So I'm going to run through that real quick. The teaser, it's pretty bland, if we're being honest. It kind of opens, do you believe?

[00:17:10] And then does this like starry pixie dust sequence. But then it runs through several characters. And this is kind of the juice part. So you see Tinkerbell. You see Joy from Inside Out. See Ariel and Flounder from Little Mermaid. Anna and Olaf from Frozen. Baymax and Hero from Big Hero 6. Judy and Nick from Zootopia. Mike and Sully from Monsters. Maui and Moana from Moana.

[00:17:39] Snow White, Happy and Doc from Snow White. Rapunzel from Tangled. And then Mirabelle and Abuela Alma from Encanto. So that's a lot of IP, right? And suspiciously, that about lines up exactly with the number of spaces on a ship that typically have IP in them. Now, I do know this does come at the disappointment for some.

[00:18:06] Because in the first, in the name reveal of the Disney Believe, they showed Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. Yeah. And people started getting super hyped. Like, oh, we're going to get Jack and Sally on a ship. I don't think that's going to come through. I think at this point, like, these are our characters, right? Yeah. I feel like Jack and Sally would be, I mean, seasonal for sure.

[00:18:31] But have, like, permanent, you know, it's June and you're going through the Caribbean and there's, like, just Jack Skellington. I don't know. Like, something seems like Oogie Boogie waddling around. That seems a little off to me. It would be a little off. They have, like, an Oogie Boogie show on some of the ships. They have, it's kind of like a secret hidden show. Ooh. So they have, like, Oogie Boogie stuff.

[00:18:57] But, yeah, it would be weird for, like, a full-time bar or something to be Nightmare Before Christmas. So here's my take on where I think these characters align. These are my guesses. I would love to hear, Jason, if you, what you think. Yeah. You know, if you. Oh, I'll tell you. First up, the atrium statue. Every Disney ship has a statue of a character in the atrium. That's a Disney Cruise Line tradition. Okay. My thought is Tinkerbell's going to show up there.

[00:19:25] It's a little bit of an oddball pick, but I can't really place her anywhere else. Okay. Is Peter Pan a statue already? He is not a statue. He is a stern character, so he's on the back of one of the ships. I think that's the most Peter Pan representation. Because I could see Tinkerbell, like, off the shoulder of a Peter Pan on a statue. Yeah. You know, because she needs to be moving around a little bit. A little annoying.

[00:19:56] Yeah. We watched Hook a few months ago. I've, you could edit her out of that show entirely, that movie entirely. Like, this is a much better movie without her in it. That's fair. That's fair. Well, speaking of stern, that's the next category that I've got here. And my guess for that is Zootopia. So, I see, like, Judy and Nick painting the name of the ship on the back with maybe some

[00:20:23] of the little lemming guys running around them in, like, beach attire or whatever. That feels like that fits well. Yeah. I like that. Welcome, Taryn. Hello. Hey, hold on a second. Hello, Taryn. There you go. Hello. Got your life sorted out, Taryn? I do. It took, it took a bit. But we're here. But we're here. We're doing good. We're feeling good. We're looking good. We're doing great. All right, Ryan, I apologize for my wife's rude interruption. Go ahead and continue on.

[00:20:49] Another space on the ship that tends to have an IP tied to it is the paid for kind of a la carte candy shop. On other ships, this is like Zootopia or Inside Out have showed up there. My guess for this is Big Hero 6. I think the San Fransokio kind of, like, neon vibes. Yeah. That just seems like a really good fit for that space.

[00:21:16] And, like, that space usually has some, like, large character statues and kind of interactive elements. Does every ship have a, has a candy shop on it? All of the Magic class has a paid for candy shop. It's a candy shop bakery, like gelato shop. That's an extra charge. That's a pretty sick situation. Honestly. Yeah. Yeah. It's really cool.

[00:21:43] They've got, they've got, like, I mean, it's, it's like the best of all of the Disney. It, it's like when you walk into the confectionery. It's like the confectionery, but on the seas and it's plus ice cream. Nice dude. I love it. Okay. So next up you have two coffee cafes. Uh, so typically these have some sort of common link, whether it's like two princesses or something like that. My thought here is they're going Pixar. Pixar.

[00:22:08] So I think inside out and monsters Inc are the two coffee cafes. Okay. Any reason for these or just because they're not anywhere else? I, I couldn't really fit them anywhere else. Also, they're the only Pixar properties that are the, that are on the list. Okay. And so like, what are the two things that have something in common? Sure. Okay. I could also see like monsters Inc working really well, especially as like a, like the,

[00:22:35] like it being themed to kind of like a cafe that you would stop into in monstropolis. Right. That would be rad, dude. I would love that. Then we move over to the bars. Um, so there's an upscale bar on every ship. Yep. These are like the ones that I can think of off the top of my head are themed to Cinderella. One's called Nightingales and it's themed to Cinderella. Uh, one's called DeVille's and it's Cruella DeVille's bar. Looking at the properties that I listed off that were in this video, I think Snow White fits

[00:23:04] the best here. Hmm. It's classy, right? Yeah. And part of, part of it is classic, but that kind of lends into classy. Yeah. Yeah. I like that. I think that'd be good. The midship bar is on other ships. It's like Tiana themed or Dr. Strange themed or jungle cruise themed. I think on this ship there, that's where they're putting Ariel. So we saw Ariel in the video. I think like her kind of like kiss the girl scene, right?

[00:23:32] Think of like the scene where they're floating through the plants and that sort of stuff on the wish. The Tiana bar has like hanging vines and stuff in it. So that's kind of where I think like that kind of matches over for me. Yeah. That's that makes sense. I feel like you couldn't really do, um, an upscale Ariel thing. Yeah. I mean, maybe like when you're in the castle or something, but like, I don't know. It doesn't really make, it doesn't really make it. Yeah.

[00:24:01] She's kind of like, like she doesn't match up to elegance really well. No, nothing about that movie is elegant. I would say. No. And she's also 15. Like what does she know about upscale restaurants? You know what I mean? Come on. True. True. Um, so the one that's a little shaky for me that I can't put a good idea to is the interactive, like immersive bar. So on the wish, this is the star Wars bar.

[00:24:29] Um, it's themed after dryden bosses barge from solo, a weird pick of a thing to theme it after. But here we are from solo. The movie. Yeah. There are they trying to, wow. Are they trying to do something with that? It came out in 2020, right? Like the, the wish came out in, in 2020. So, okay. Solo came out in 2020. No, solo came out before that. But what I'm saying is that that was just like six years ago. That was a good idea.

[00:24:59] Yeah. I know. I understand what I'm saying. What you're saying. I, I, what I'm trying to get across is that it's never been a good idea. Cause that movie was terrible. It did terribly. Why? Like that makes it, that's a weird pick. Yeah. I mean, I think it was trying to go classy. I think it was again, trying to, to like, like with the wish, everything about that ship is trying to be classy. And so I think that's what they like. That's the most classy star Wars thing. Okay.

[00:25:28] Um, there's also speculation that that was a test run for some of the elements in the galactic star cruiser. Um, interesting. So that immersive bar, that immersive bar slot on the other wish class ships is the, uh, haunted mansion bar, the haunted mansion parlor, which is super sweet. Of course. We didn't see any haunted mansion or star Wars in this video.

[00:25:54] So if they did show us all of everything, I'm going to assume that it's not going to be there. So I am left at this point with Moana tangled in Kanto and frozen. I mean, it would be in Kanto. I think that would be the most exciting for, for an interactive thing. Yeah, I could see that. I, I put frozen in this slot.

[00:26:21] I said, Oaken running a bar like Oaken's sauna as a bar. I mean, that would be cool, but I don't know how interactive you could be with it. Yeah. And you, you could do like needs and stuff to make the drink menu a little bit themed. Yeah. But yeah, that one is a little strange. I do. I do like in Kanto. I ended up putting in Kanto in a different, there's a, on each of these ships, there's

[00:26:47] like a two story entertainment venue bar where they do some stage shows and they, it's themed to like black Panther on one of the ships lightly themed to Luna, the, the Pixar short on one of the ships. That's weird. Yeah. That's where I put in Kanto because I could see the like casita, like the, the casita kind of has a lot of height in it in the way that they presented in the movie. There's a lot of height. Yeah. And so I thought that space fit it well. Sure. I mean, it's the second story, right?

[00:27:17] Yeah. Yeah. Now, usually the, each ship gets a show. My guess on this is that's where Tangled's fitting in. That's where we saw Rapunzel. Um, we're going to get a live action Tangled here very soon. I think that that's, that's a story that's kind of ripe for, for stage retelling. Yeah. Wow. And then last but not least, you have a dinner show. So on other ships, this is Lion King. This is frozen.

[00:27:47] This is Coco. Um, so I think on this ship, that's where Moana fits. And honestly, I'm surprised they haven't done Moana yet. See, this is, and this is what I was waiting for. This is what I was thinking about because that move, the live action did terribly. Oh yeah. In the theaters. So, I mean, and, and they have fuzzy math to determine everything at that company.

[00:28:12] So is it, are they thinking it's, it's not doing well because it's too early for a live action remake of the thing or are people just bored with the story? And, and I, either way, I wonder if they, they would invest that kind of cash into a stage show of the movie that didn't do well at all. Yeah. I don't know. That's very interesting. Or maybe, maybe they know that it would be a, cause I, cause I think you're right.

[00:28:41] I'm thinking every time I hear Moana, I think of the first movie cause I haven't seen the second one. Have I? Yeah. Have I seen the second one, Taryn? No. No. I have not either. All right. Thank you. She has my, my list of things I've seen. Um, I think of, I think of the first cartoon, that would be an amazing, uh, Broadway, you know, theatric performance. Right. Mm-hmm. But after, I think everyone's just inundated with it. I don't think anybody cares anymore. Well, and they did. So one of the ships has that on the like state.

[00:29:10] So, cause on a Disney cruise every night you get a stage show, right? Broadway style. Um, and Moana is on one of the ships as that already. And it's supposed to be amazing. Okay. Every review I've had of that has been just like the special effects that they put into it with like Mont Nui and stuff. It's just beautiful. And the story is great and all of that.

[00:29:34] And that's where I think like moving it over to kind of a dinner show where they play the greatest hits, right? They play, you're welcome. They play how far I'll go though. That sort of stuff. Yeah. And then they serve Polynesian food and alongside it. Like that works that to me. Cause like cocoa for right. So in the cocoa restaurant, it's Mexican food and the greatest hits from cocoa in the frozen.

[00:30:01] It's Norwegian food and the greatest hits from frozen fish. It's a lot of various, various jellied fish. Yeah. So yeah, my thought is that's going to be Moana. Now the most interesting part about this to me actually, like, cause we can speculate on where these characters go and stuff and that's fun or whatever. But what was actually really interesting to me was also during this teaser, they announced that the rest, the actual them saying where these things are going to be.

[00:30:31] Is going to be on October 7th on a sailing aboard the Disney wish live streamed. Um, which is really interesting with D23 coming up. I would have expected, I was actually, uh, on some show and I, I said my lock for it for a Disney like announcement during D23 would be details on the belief.

[00:30:56] But I, I mean, at this point, if they've got a live stream already announced for October, I don't think we're getting anything in August. Yeah. I mean, if, if not, maybe just a little bit more of a teaser, you know, what we might get more of in August though came during the, the sales or during the earnings call. So during the earnings call, they actually kind of one up themselves. So they had this trailer go out for the believe and that was all great, right? Yeah. Here's this cool story. Yeah.

[00:31:24] Then they came out during the earnings call and they said, Hey, you know, that plan to get to 13 by 2031, we're actually now going to move that up to get to 13 by 2030. So a whole year earlier, how that's going to look is there is a brand new kind of in between a class of ships. So it's a little bit larger than their, um, original ships, but it's definite.

[00:31:52] It's about a thousand passengers smaller than their, than the big ships than the 4,000 person. So it's about a 3000 person ship, um, likely can make runs up to Canada, which will be important or runs up to Alaska rather, which is important for the company. There will be two of those as well as a ship owned by the Oriental land company that will sail out of Japan.

[00:32:16] That is the 4,000 person size all releasing in 2029, three ships releasing in one year, which is something that the company has never done. They're going to contribute to the, the sea rise just from the ships alone, man. Come on now. Yeah. Display some water somehow. To put this in context, Disney cruise line started at 96. It's first ship.

[00:32:40] The magic didn't set sail until, uh, until, uh, 98 and the wonder came out in 99. Then it was a decade between the wonder and then the dream and fantasy showing up in, uh, 2011, 2012. So over a decade. And then another decade gap to the wish, which is the current class we're on. Yeah. Um, and they've been chugging through building out this, this really massive fleet.

[00:33:09] Um, and this is a really interesting change in the way that Disney is operating because Disney has always operated on really full ships, but they've only had so many ships. It's kind of like the parks, right? You only have two parks in the U S they're always full, but you only have two. Yeah. Um, whereas someone like a Royal Caribbean, they have like 30 ships on the seas.

[00:33:32] And so like they, and their occupancy is always lower because it's just a diluted market. And so it's really, really interesting to see that Disney's kind of going for, I don't think that they're going to get to that like 30 ship time or 30 ship sort of thing. I wouldn't think so either. And actually I do think that the in between size. So that smaller, newer class that they're making is going to replace the wish or I'm sorry,

[00:34:02] the, the, um, magic and wonder. Uh, cause those are 30 year old ships at this point. And that's well beyond the standard time that a cruise line keeps their ships. Like, so you're saying they're unsafe, Ryan. That's what you're saying. No, they're beyond, I don't know, man. That's what's crazy is like Disney. It's funny because Disney's kind of known in the cruise industry because they keep their ships up so much and they do so much work on their ships.

[00:34:29] Um, that like those 30 year old ships are like the equivalent of like a, a 15 year old Royal Caribbean or something like that. Um, in the way that they're operating. Nice. So big news in DCL, you got a big announcement of a bunch of stuff coming to the ship that's coming out late next year. Um, the believe, and then they also compress that timeline and they're going to be getting

[00:34:56] some, some really cool, uh, some really, you know, big options. And that's why I noted the, the Alaska runs. Alaska is Disney is I think Disney's largest market for cruises. If I remember correctly, uh, that that's where they make the most money. If I, if my noggin is serving me. Sure. Um, and so they need a ship and, and, you know, ships that are a little long in the tooth

[00:35:23] continuing to make that run, that's where you, you gotta kind of maybe switch over to something newer. Makes sense to me. All right. Very good, Ryan. Good work, dude. Taryn, what do you got? I've got pressures off at Disneyland. Oh. So a sudden water pressure problem across Anaheim caused an unexpected closure for Disneyland guests early last week, forcing many guests to hold it.

[00:35:50] Temporary closure of restrooms and restaurants throughout the resort. That could not imagine. I would be so pissed. No pun intended, man. A weird situation to be in. Um, I had never even, this is why I wanted to do this article because I never thought about how much we take water for granted. You write plumbing. I mean, so anyway, the city of Anaheim draws their water from several groundwater wells, but

[00:36:20] around 6 p.m. on July 28th, the city began experiencing a problem leading to low water pressure across most of the city. Anaheim gets its water from a mix of local groundwater pumped from city owned wells and surface water imported from Northern California and the Colorado River. Uh-huh. Look at us. We're, we're funding it. We are. We should get free tickets. Yes. The groundwater, which acts as the main source, comes from the Orange County groundwater basin,

[00:36:48] which is replenished by the Santa Ana River, local rain, recycled water, and imported supplies. Unfortunately, due to a sudden and simultaneous technical and mechanical failures at four of the city's 14 municipal groundwater wells, faucets at Anaheim, uh, sorry, faucets at Angel Stadium, hotels, restaurants, businesses, nearby neighborhoods, and at Disneyland were left trickling with little to no pressure.

[00:37:15] While city officials switched to water from the Colorado River while the crews worked to restore service, they also stressed that the issue did not affect fire hydrants or water quality, which I don't understand how it doesn't, but that must just come from a different source. At Disneyland, cast members temporarily blocked guests from using restrooms and many dining locations while the water pressure remained too low to operate normally. God, dude.

[00:37:44] Just, just go to, uh, frigging pirates, man. Start pumping water from pirates. You drink that. Oh, gosh. It'd be all right. I don't think. Drinking someone's grandma dust. Oh, no. Um, they were as helpful as the situation could allow, a guest recalled. Most guests understood it was out of Disney's hands while others were upset with the inconvenience. It was a little chaotic, but they handled it the best way they could. Guests took to social media to share updates as the situation unfolded. Thank God.

[00:38:13] I'm so glad we had citizen reporting on the ground to let everybody know how it's going. This is how I heard about it. On Reddit. Some reported that restaurants had closed and that visitors with dining reservations were being turned away. Others described the situation as frustrating, with a few choosing to leave the parks early and seek out refunds. Disney officials also began precautions for closing the resort early, but ultimately the disruption didn't last too long.

[00:38:39] Disney said its teams responded quickly, and as the city's water pressure improved, restaurants and restrooms gradually reopened. Within about two hours, around 8 p.m., both Anaheim officials and Disneyland confirmed that normal operations had resumed with no ongoing concerns related to the water system. So they were only down for two hours? For two hours, yeah. That's not bad, dude. That's not bad. Thankfully, the pressure came back before guests' bladders reached their breaking point.

[00:39:15] Shut up, dude. But then even the idea of leaving, it's not like you can leave the park and get that at Downtown Disney because they're having the same problem. Right.

[00:39:44] It's not like you can go to your hotel and go to the bathroom because it's the same problem. Yeah. Like, what? Like, I mean, two hours is not much, and it's really good that they fixed it, but like, two hours without a bathroom, like, it's just very weird. And I guess if you went back to your hotel, you would just do your business and not flush, and you'd be fine. But like, it's just such a weird situation that I am so glad I wasn't a part of. Yeah.

[00:40:12] It's funny because it brings back Walt's old quote, right? Yeah. He had to choose between bathrooms and water fountains. Exactly. that's wild yeah i couldn't imagine i wonder so do they know like what happened no and i tried to look and maybe they're just not saying um but i did try to look that up and the most i could get was that there was a simultaneous malfunction with four of their places because what's interesting

[00:40:38] is and i thought i read this night while you were talking i looked it up and therefore i couldn't do you know i i chose i chose the bathrooms over your you know water fountain okay um last week there was a big hack on the minnesota infrastructure water specifically by uh what they they say is uh people as the iranian government oh and it like shut down like water pressure like with their water delivery systems interesting it sounds like pyramid eyes in the ears now i know

[00:41:07] right so i mean i'm wondering if maybe it could be related to that maybe and the government's not saying anything because uh they don't want people to be afraid that like tourist attractions are being targeted um but yeah it says why anaheim the agency said the water and wastewater utilities have been have reported incidents to the fbi with malicious activity degrading water operations uh and it does

[00:41:36] not name the state so it's it's uh minnesota and other states apparently too interesting it has the hallmarks of iranian meddling uh spokesperson for minnesota's informational technology services agency said thursday there was no indication that the breaches contaminated any municipal water supply yeah these weren't contaminated they were just turned off well yeah it causes chaos i mean that's that's

[00:42:02] that's a major resource that's just like shut off and i also thought it was kind of odd that it it wasn't completely shut off it was just down to a trickle like i don't know like the whole thing seems weird and like i i love a good conspiracy theory and that one um i feel like i want to just jump on board i know you kind of want to this article is kind of wild because like michigan is saying like yeah it's consistent and this has been a thing for for for years now too where like

[00:42:31] the infrastructures around the country are always kind of defending themselves from cyber attacks from you know other you know foreign countries or whatever so they kind of know what to look for yeah so they're saying it was it looks exactly like uh it's consistent with a hacking described by federal agencies as like you know having iranian origins when uh donald trump was asked about it he says i think i blame it on minnesota because they're grossly incompetent i would blame it on

[00:42:58] minnesota and the governor the corrupt governor of minnesota they like to say oh it's iran iran should be so lucky iran's got bigger problems than worrying about minnesota and tim walt says like this is what modern warfare looks like it's just this this is what it has been looking like forever but whatever anyway that's super interesting let's take a break we're gonna come back uh we got some more

[00:43:21] news stories for you so hang with us it's ears up we'll be right back and now back to the show that ignites your dream wish of imaginations and magical color wonderment of forever ears up you know i had a i was having one of my non-alcoholic beers on the first segment i went to get another one and i saw i have sam smith's oatmeal stout in cans in there and i was like i have to i have to get

[00:43:50] one i have to drink one so i'm actually having a real beer for probably the first time since sunday i had one on sunday and then i yeah so i'm like i don't know i'm kind of i'm kind of okay with you know what i mean there was a time in my life in my 20s like what the hell this boy's not drinking his beer but you know it's like now it's just a treat and that's okay i i yeah sorry go ahead

[00:44:14] i discovered so i had a gout attack like two years ago um and then it it was fine since and then i went camping a couple weeks ago yeah had a gout attack right after we came back and i've been drinking beer all day every day it was like i mean i would that's just the culture with my family when we go camping with my family it's like sure blame them have a beer in your hand yeah man so uh so yeah then

[00:44:40] i hit the gout attack i was like all right i guess uh i guess i'm going back to supporting tom holland and more bureau yeah do you like that beer it's fine it's it's accessible is it is that is that the best non-alcoholic beer you have no okay you're just doing it because it's tom holland i'm doing it

[00:45:05] because i still have like half the 12th pack that i bought last time i bought it would you buy it again uh i so i did think he released a shandy mix which i thought about getting because like a non-alcoholic shandy sounds kind of nice yeah um and then he also really he's also been releasing like can't and i am a sucker for this kind of i have a stupid sucker for this kind of thing

[00:45:32] he's been releasing cans that have to do with his movies we have ones that are spider-man cans oh he saw you come oh yeah i love odyssey cans and i'm just like that's how you get me oh yeah okay so the answer is yes yeah i would every time i hear anyone has gout there's a song i forget who sings it but it's called lookout got gout oh my goodness look out god and i can't find who it is

[00:45:59] that's weird yeah i know i know i'm in a rabbit hole give me two seconds that's fine i was gonna say just with the alcohol stuff like it's so weird because so we had friends over on sunday and i had um probably like two and a half glasses of wine over the course of maybe three over the course of a few hours and i felt so like like just that whole night and we were in the sun the whole time too so it was

[00:46:28] probably that as well but i drank a lot of water like it i was planning for it like i shouldn't have felt so sick um and i just felt really yucky and then um but at the end we opened a second bottle of wine and so and it was one of our good bottles so i don't want it to go to waste so it's sitting in our fridge and so last night i poured some of it um to have it while i was making dinner and i took

[00:46:53] like two sips and i was like i i don't want this like i don't want this and this is not like me like usually i will be like that's fine we don't want to waste the wine it's it's that's money down the drain but i was literally like i i got these um guava sodas from trader joe's and i was like you know what sounds better than this is just a guava soda in a wine glass so i poured it out and i poured my guava soda and i was like who am i

[00:47:24] but i guess they call that growing up i guess so i don't know it felt good and next week will be completely different but that's the way it works all right here we go uh september 26th will be the last day of work for over 100 people at pixar the disney-owned 3d animation studio the layoffs are a part of a broader slimming down of the disney workforce but pixar remains the hardest hit suffering the largest number of casualties since well since two years ago in 2024

[00:47:52] they laid off 175 people or about 14 of its workforce at the time and that was fresh off the heels of an earlier round of layoffs seeing almost 80 cut in 2023 pixar does not seem like a good place to work man those two previous cuts were blamed on the pandemic which forced moviegoers out of crowded and smelly theaters and on to disney plus an equally crowded and smelly experience but

[00:48:18] you know digitally when the studio put soul luca and turning red out on disney plus apparently that conditioned viewers quote unquote to watch these latest flicks at home and not fork over the cashola to eat stale popcorn and pee three times during the movie so pixar and disney pushed the toy story spinoff light year to theaters and it tanked the only reason it tanked according to disney

[00:48:43] you yes you that's right you didn't show up or out for light year but not because it was not good in any way or that it was even a story people wanted to hear no you didn't show up because you were programmed by disney to stay home that's basically what they're saying anyway it's it's like it's very much like it's not us it's you but because because you are such a good consumer you listened to whatever

[00:49:10] we wanted you to do and then now now we we understand you were too obedient that's silly meanwhile toy story 5 is doing a billion at the box office oh we're getting there anyway after the 2024 layoffs inside out 2 went on to absolutely rake in the dough at the movie theaters pulling 1.69 billion dollars at the box office that same year everybody was they canned over 100 people because

[00:49:36] no one's going to the movies and then suddenly inside out 2s at the movies and it's making over a billion dollars i imagine that disney execs thought they did a great job convincing you to go to the movies then oh back to this year the current layoffs are not being blamed on you so good work on your end this time it's about two things the underperformance of hoppers that movie which didn't do terribly at the box office i haven't seen it yet but i heard i i like cute a lot actually okay

[00:50:05] it didn't do that bad it pulled 88 million dollars on its opening weekend which is more than half of what live action moana did so if they're laying off in part if they're laying off people in part because of the underperformance of hoppers disney live action should be seeing massive cuts oh yeah it makes no sense um uh did the end so it's it's blamed on two things one the underperformance of hoppers and two

[00:50:34] the vision of a so-called one disney that josh tomorrow has for the future from a statement issued in april he says the following says quote over the past several months we have looked at ways in which we can streamline our operations in various parts of the company to ensure we deliver the world-class creativity and innovations our friends excuse me our fans value and expect from disney given the fast-moving pace of our industries this requires us to constantly assess how to foster a more

[00:51:03] agile and technologically enabled workforce to meet tomorrow's needs as a result we will be eliminating roles in some parts of the company and have begun notifying impacted employees i don't know man i've thankfully i've never been in a situation where i have to lay off hundreds of people behind a memo but i guess that's how you do it you pad the landing you know if this just reeks of um an excuse

[00:51:31] because they've actually found easier ways to make their films using ai keep in mind josh is leaning heavily into ai into the creative departments at disney and i can't help but think this looks a lot like robots turkin or gerbs last month when pixar sent letters to those affected by the cuts the letterhead used had mrs incredible standing in place of the i in the pixar word right at the top and at first when i

[00:51:58] heard this i was like omg that's like totally wild bro i'm like well hold on when i first heard it i was like oh my god that's like totally wild um because there was a lot of kerfuffle online about like you know a lot of articles like what the people were mad at that yeah and then i saw it and i was like it's not as bad as i had imagineered it in my brain you know it's like it's just it's just their company letterhead like why do they care right but is it tacky to send a warn notice that

[00:52:28] way but then i thought about it i thought that if i was getting fired because a movie i may or may not have worked on only just broke even and didn't make a billion dollars and i had to stare at a cartoon character on the letterhead that's become uh classically over sexualized online by by subhumans on reddit i'd be more than a little insulted like you couldn't just use adult paper for me for you're laying me off especially when toy story 5 is out there setting a pace to clear a billion dollars this

[00:52:57] year already so that's it that's the story is basically people are getting laid off on pixar they're blaming it on they're they're shifting the blame it used to be from you not going to the movies yeah now they're shifting the blame that you didn't really like hoppers enough but it's really not that at all it's it's got to be this one disney thing and you know we were talking a little bit at the beginning right about using you know ai the company wants to use ai to

[00:53:24] plan your vacation and you know tomorrow on the earnings call kind of triple down on that and they want to use ai in every creative aspect possible and of course it's going to be taking people's jobs it's just that's what it's designed to do that's why it was made and uh it just i don't know it just sucks like pixar cranks out some really good content and it's it's always at a very high level

[00:53:47] and it's always very good and yeah it just i hate i hate seeing people because then they work them there dude they absolutely work them and in that industry in any sort of like gaming or computer design industry you are getting worked and then just laid off with staring at mrs incredible yeah i think that this this round of layoffs also hit espn if i remember right as well as some others

[00:54:16] not geo but uh nothing as bad as as as pixar yeah and and what i was reading was it was story artists and so that's the story borders right and to me that you you're right because right you you feed the writer feeds their story into sora or whatever yeah not actually sora no it's uh and that ai is what

[00:54:42] disney has the contract with well yeah and then it spits out a storyboard real quick for them yeah and so like all those folks who were whose job it was to take like writer's vision and move it into the start of like we would never see their work right their their work we we would only see it like in restaurants when they hang it up or whatever right those are the people who are being impacted

[00:55:10] by this and and it'll be interesting to see how that how that changes like character design right i know there's kind of been a kerfuffle online about the pixar character design and there's several characters that people have started to notice are kind of the same model just with different hair or different stylings and so it'll be interesting to see you know do we end up seeing more of that because

[00:55:36] like we were saying right ai is really good at at general right it's it's really good at giving you the exact average and yeah i mean yeah the the problem with ai just not not to get too far into it but like you know disney is is training their version of their ai on their own artwork and stuff so but at some point it's going to be cannibalized and that's the big worry and that's why you see

[00:56:02] a lot of ai data center people like anthropic or whatever they're literally buying millions and like literally millions no exaggeration millions of books and they're scanning them but in order to do that they have to ruin them they destroy them they scan these books by absolutely tearing them apart and then they burn them and throw them away so there are millions of books just being burnt because it's all pre-ai and it's the only way like we they ai is already at the point where it's eating itself

[00:56:31] and it needs extra data that it has not influenced so i you know at some point i don't know what they're going to do with with the whole this whole thing but i i'm gonna this is the the hill i'm on right now is that like ai will not pay off the way disney thinks it will and tomorrow will not be he will be a chapek you know we're kind of not really a patsy but because he'll have done it on his own accord but ai is not going to be the savior of disney the way they think it is i mean and and

[00:56:58] to you know to put a finer point on it how much money do they need to be making like they've already made a ton of cash they make a ton of cash on the entertainer they make a ton of cash do they need that do they need to shave 0.5 percent off by firing a couple hundred people to use ai to not have to do storyboards like i don't know man that doesn't feel good to me it

[00:57:21] just doesn't feel and not not to get to you know whatever but i i think that's that's the catch when a creative company starts to answer to shareholders right like ultimately your when your when your focus shifts from we've made enough money now we just want to make cool stuff uh to we can never make enough

[00:57:45] money because we have a fiduciary responsibility and yada yada yada yada yada yeah that's that's where it starts to get and and unfortunately our entertainment landscape is kind of flawed in that way right now where the majority of our entertainment is coming from companies that answer to their shareholders first and honestly most of their shareholders are not fans right so

[00:58:08] like you're you you're their answer is to the the bottom line and so they're they're yeah they can't be content i mean it's true that's definitely true but i think at a certain point you know how far does your fiduciary uh duty go you know your oh yeah your duty is to not bankrupt the company and it's to

[00:58:32] make the company money but do that isn't there a way that we can that we can coexist with money at the same time isn't there a way like these people have jobs they're doing a good job the the financials are looking great that should be good enough that should be good enough we shouldn't have to be like well let's get rid of these people then we can make more money our financials could look better if they don't do that i don't think that that's necessarily violating your fiduciary duty to the shareholder at all

[00:59:01] right so there's at some point yeah anyway whatever do we know that their financials look great yeah well i mean the earnings call was today yeah but like they they actually like admit that they're doing really really well because that seems odd to me yeah i mean you know like i said i don't want to get too because nobody has a story written on it right so we don't really have anybody to to dive into

[00:59:26] but um my understanding of it was it was it was a good year given everything that was going on um right which is what we say at my company too and it doesn't mean that it was it was a great year it means that for us it means it was a it's been a great year since 2020 yeah but every company i think

[00:59:49] is trying to get back to 2018 and that's that's why people keep getting fired all over the place because these companies are not making as much money as they were in 2018 for a variety of reasons uh i mean there's a hundred different reasons why um but until they make that kind of money back they're gonna just keep doing this revenue totaled 25.25 billion dollars seven percent year over year

[01:00:19] growth so i'd say yeah that's pretty good i think the next year could be really interesting between the ai stuff and whether there's regulation on it or not and and how that ends up how that how that clears out that that we may not even see in the next year but something i was talking about on puny pod um was we were looking at the box office and already this year there are five movies that have made a

[01:00:43] billion dollars which is more than last year um so last year there were only four all 12 months in and there are still big movies to come out this year that will likely make over a billion dollars so i think the movie side of the enterprise is going to be a lot stronger this year

[01:01:05] um because you just just simply there's just more high earning movies in the theaters right now um and it'll be really interesting to see how that how that changes things right because for the last few years it's been like we've been lucky to get three four movies crack a billion dollars in the year people weren't going to the theaters it just wasn't happening um and now i think you know if i had to put a

[01:01:32] guess to it you're probably gonna see close to 10 billion dollar movies this year um which is not back to 2018 numbers i think 2018 was better than that but um you know it it is it is interesting it's an interesting rebound it'll be interesting to see how they react to that yeah well and it's also you know those numbers were part of the you know the marvel the original marvel universe right so we had

[01:02:00] movies that people gave a crap about but now we have the live action moana no one cares like it clearly no one cares because no one went to see it so i there's some of that too so i don't necessarily think that disney specifically is trying to get back anywhere because they're doing better than they were in the pre-pandemic they're making tons of money they made they made seven percent year on year when everybody else in the industry is not doing that they're pretty uniquely positioned i just i just

[01:02:28] the and remember the only this whole thing started but like people you know 100 people getting laid off so i'm not trying to like break down the entire financials of the entire company but i just when when i hear stories like this it makes me feel bad yeah and i guess i just like i was just doing a little bit of research too while while we were talking and like different numbers mean different

[01:02:49] things and like their net income for 2018 was 12.6 billion and for 2025 was 12.4 billion so it has gone down their net income and so it's just it i do think that there's i i'm not saying it's right but i think that's the reason the real reason it'll be it'll be interesting and and i think i'm sure ai does again

[01:03:16] because of the because of the the positions selected those those are at least from an outsider perspective easy to plug ai into positions like not good it won't come out well right but like a josh tomorrow sits down and says oh yeah an ai could do storyboarding right ai is doing really good stuff we can just tell it to storyboard up frozen six um and it'll do it in a couple of days

[01:03:44] or whatever um and so like i i do think there's there's something to that for sure yeah it's too bad all right ryan go ahead give us a story all right uh so i one of my other shows is a marvel show and there has been a ton of news in the marvel universe so um i wanted to kind of give a high level just kind of what's going on in marvel there is a new avengers movie coming out later this year so i

[01:04:13] know a lot of people are really looking forward to it people are kind of getting back into that marvel mindset yeah let's talk about it a little bit let's do first piece here is is the big obvious one which is spider-man brand new day um spider-man brand new day has opened like gangbusters it has the biggest domestic opening weekend in history its global open was 932 million dollars it crossed a

[01:04:42] billion dollars into six in six days which is the second fastest movie ever to do that reviews are great i'll tell you it's great i went and saw it i i think it's the best spider-man in the mcu set records for the best thursday previews best monday ever best tuesday ever sony's biggest launch of all it is going like crazy and the zendaya tom holland household is having a summer dude absolutely crazy

[01:05:11] how many movies those people are in yeah it's nuts and they still they still have dune they still have dune three coming out yeah dude yeah dune nuts so spider-man spider-man's blowing up and it's it's doing fantastically going on from that riding that hype wave we move into doomsday uh we had san diego comic-con just happened and they were all over the doomsday stuff um i'm gonna be honest

[01:05:39] with you i think that doomsday is going to be a greatest hits album of a movie they have rehired the russo brothers who directed endgame and infinity war it is set up to be the villain wins at the end it's set up to to be basically the same exact thing as infinity war um i do think that that like if you are looking for marvel to do something new and interesting and different this is not the movie

[01:06:06] that it's gonna do yeah but if you're looking for superheroes to punch a bunch of bad guys this i mean i think ultimately that's what anybody's looking for with these movies you know what i mean 100 yeah beyond doomsday beyond this year things get interesting and kevin feige was at comic-con talking a little bit about this they took all of their untitled marvel slots off

[01:06:30] the board between december 18th of this year and december 17th of 2027 so there will not be a marvel movie well marvel disney movie i should say released from december to december right we were we were nearing like almost five movies a year there for a second well plus tv shows plus everything else yeah we got tired brother let me tell you let me tell you we got tired brother there were there were

[01:06:58] some marvel things i was looking forward to watching and i didn't because i was just so over it like i want to watch it but i i'm like i can't right now i'm so i'm so over it and and they canceled a couple t they canceled the second season wonder man which i'm personally disappointed in because wonder man was you and everybody else i i didn't see it but um i've heard nothing but great things about it and when it was it was canceled it wasn't already greenlit for a second season

[01:07:21] and they're like yeah we're not gonna do that yeah the stinger said like wonder man will return in the second season and um there was it's up for emmys like it's a it's a great show but kevin feige kind of talked about it and he was talking at comic-con and he said it he said it in not so many words he said you know marvel has spread itself too thin after endgame it was too expansive it was too

[01:07:46] large there was too much for fans to keep up with uh there was too much for him to be involved with to kind of keep the story cohesive and so they are moving to a quality over quantity um move so he actually called himself in one of the interviews he called himself a gigantic loser and failure for blade not happening because there was a maher shawali starring blade movie that had been announced

[01:08:13] that is now off the table he should because yeah that would have been rad dude it would have been so good it's funny because there's there's a whole thing on like black twitter um about uh kevin feige just not greenlighting black movies anymore because blade's gone wonder man started black character that's not happening anymore i think there's one or two other oh the um captain america was supposed

[01:08:39] to be um what's his face that's not happening anymore yeah yeah and it's like uh i mean i know that's not the case but it definitely feels like at the same time you can't help but like connect something there yeah well here's the good news right so after 2027 um so for those who don't know secret wars is the it's avengers secret wars is what's coming out in december of 2027 it's the second part to doomsday

[01:09:07] the comic book series that that's most likely based on it's either a 1985 run or a 2015 run i'm guessing 2015 because in that run basically the whole universe resets everybody everybody dies it all goes away and then it all resets that's convenient yeah i love comics yeah yeah and it was really convenient in the comics because it meant that at that point they could bring in like some of the

[01:09:34] alternate universe guys like miles morales and stuff um they brought that into the mainline universe through that mechanic but so and i was actually yeah it's actually kind of funny because if they follow that basically what secret wars will be is after all the universes end it's one single universe that's kind of like a patchwork of all the other universes where dr doom is the god

[01:10:00] and only like 10 heroes survive so if you kill everybody off in doomsday and now you make a really cheap movie because you only have 10 stars in it rather than the like 25 odd that you're putting in doomsday uh that's a really convenient mechanic for for marvel to make a movie around absolutely but after that reset where do we go right what what do we what do we have um and kevin feige has said a few

[01:10:26] things about that um announced actually announced and in production uh we got news at san diego comic-con that we're getting ghost rider uh so ghost rider starring ryan gosling okay uh written and directed by sean levy so it's kind of funny they're pairing up for a star wars movie as well uh and i guess they're just gonna hang out and do marvel stuff too why not man and then they also announced black panther 3

[01:10:53] coming out in 2028 uh david johnson will be playing prince t'challa to the son of t'challa that was introduced in uh black panther 2 and then from there we've started to get casting announcements for x-men um and kevin feige has said that there is plans for marvel all the way out to 2042

[01:11:20] wow come on now now he said he said kind of jokingly in the interview where he mentioned this he's like i don't know if we can hold on till 2042 um but we do have this plan um it includes a big x-men push which is definitely building that is for sure something that the universe is building right now

[01:11:44] um there also is like a street level push happening um so it'll be it'll be really interesting and i think marvel is going to be interesting in the next couple years interesting times right one marvel movie in a year i think the last time that happened was maybe iron man the very first movie that came out wow well that sounds good ryan i love it yeah so it'll be it'll be cool and i think like

[01:12:12] i think right now is the time to get back into marvel right if you were like oh man everything after endgame kind of sucked and they went nowhere with jonathan majors getting himself into trouble and the kang stuff going sideways and whatever you know doomsday doomsday is the time to to click back in i think like i say i don't think it's going to be a groundbreaking movie but it's going to be fun to watch and then secret wars will kick off kind of the next version of the

[01:12:39] universe i love it sounds great taryn how long is your next here i'll just go next and you can wrap you can close out the show okay it's pretty short all right good uh yesterday august 6th which by the way i'm over here thinking it's still june sometime the walt disney company announced a partnership with short form content platform tiktok to bring short form disney content to the disney plus app

[01:13:03] oh rolling out in the u.s for its pilot program in a few months will bring quote an expansive collection of thoughtfully curated disney-centric fan-created content from tiktok to the disney plus app and in the disney plus app it's going to be a thing called uh verts like verticals are vertical they're verts so you can go to the verts tab in the disney plus app and look at uh thoughtfully

[01:13:31] curated disney-centric fan-created content from tiktok i just don't think anyone's gonna click on that they always will because because i don't know why creators will have access to hundreds of scenes from across several prominent disney ips like marvel and whatever else they have quote fans will enjoy a shared disney experience with tiktok videos that will be refreshed regularly to engage subscribers

[01:13:56] more deeply in time fan and excuse me in timely fan conversations building stronger communities and ultimately helping them engage with more story formats across disney plus it's all garbage so it's they're they're literally just tiktok videos that are going to be available on disney plus but only disney specific stuff correct so i i was reading about this and i think the disney plus part is

[01:14:25] gonna fizzle i i i really do i can't imagine anyone opening disney plus to look at verts like specifically you know i mean it seems like a weird thing through the jointly run disney creator ambassador program disney and tiktok will enable best-in-class creators to unlock special rewards and provide them with increased visibility access to exclusive events and career development pathways so this is interesting to me yes so if you have to apply for the disney creator ambassador

[01:14:54] program then you have to be accepted and then you have to be thoughtfully curated do the thing but what the the interesting point is the career development pathway now are they leveraging uh ugcs to like maybe come up with stories or different ways to market or you know disney does or not disney but tiktok is really big for those like one minute dramas yeah you know i wonder if they're going to be

[01:15:21] trying to leverage though or at least not even be trying to leverage but keeping the door open for some of these tiktok creators to to to maybe do some of those things with disney you know with with disney ip i'll be really curious what the fine print on that is right like is this going to be a thing where if you get into the disney creator fund you can't have a youtube channel right maybe i don't know

[01:15:46] i i think that would be i think so many creators have a youtube channel that i think you'd be really hard pressed to get anybody who has a big following to not have a youtube channel to want to do this you know what i mean yeah no for sure but if they say like let's just use someone you know youtube let's say ordinary adventures right um they're primarily on youtube they but they do create some

[01:16:12] tiktoks but they say guess what you're not getting you're not getting passes to the to nobody who's not in this program gets passes to the like creator cruises they do or to the preview nights of oogie boogie bash or whatever um and they say that that is exclusive to their creator program that's where i think this could get really interesting because like i know universal just signed a deal with youtube on the

[01:16:39] other side um that's that's somewhat similar to this deal okay and so i it to me that's that's kind of the interesting i'll be interested to see how that works out because same absolutely i mean there's also this thing that i learned today about tiktok there's a um so there's the the tiktok creator program where you can make money off of your things and the the stipulation there is you have to have a certain amount of followers whatever and then you're you only make money on videos that are a minute long

[01:17:08] or longer um i just found out today that for these like kind of bigger influencers that have like you know thousands hundreds of thousands of of fans they there is now a new program called the creator career program where they in order to stay in that program and i don't know what it involves exactly but in order to stay in that program they have to be go on tiktok live for 300 hours

[01:17:38] and it's just it struck me that that's called the creator career program and then disney has this career thing and i wonder if if there's somehow pathways connected maybe i mean it's career development pathways all lowercase so okay you never really know okay uh this tiered program reflects disney's commitment to building relationships with the next generation of creative talent in partnership with tiktok who has a unique attention and care for its creator community

[01:18:07] and all this got me thinking because i left tiktok earlier this year when the u.s government forced them to sell or be banned who actually owned tiktok right now that's what the story is about people are going to hate this story but i don't really care i know originally the u.s had a hair up its butt over the chinese-owned app because it was afraid that china was having unfettered access to our data potentially using that access to manipulate their algorithm to start showing users content that

[01:18:32] might well i don't really know what uh open our country's kimono and expose our faults at any rate u.s operations was spun off into a separate company with several major investors getting in on the action chinese company byte dance still holds a 20 stake in the company but is not involved with u.s operations the new joint venture is made up of a group of investors including u.s cloud computing and database software company oracle tech investment firm silver lake and abu dhabi state-owned

[01:19:01] investment fund mgx they each own 15 of the u.s operations of tiktok oracle is owned by republican mega donor and the second richest person in the world larry ellison who uses his air used his ai network to retrain and adjust the tiktok algorithm upon initial sale using the guiding hand of consumerism to make sure that we don't see too much troublesome content

[01:19:26] there was a big uh a big um i don't know push i guess or whatever um that once the switch kind of flipped in january when uh ellison got his hands on the algorithm like everything changed there's like no more palestinian content there's no more you know whatever i don't know how much of that is true it's pretty true yeah i my entire life on tiktok was political and now there's now it's just makeup

[01:19:50] i wonder why well because well i can get to that tiktok in the u.s made much waves about data concerns and how users of the platform should feel better knowing the u.s is in control of their data reading the terms of service however some in the media noticed that now tiktok has permissions to collect so much more data than it did under chinese control it can now collect precise gps data of your

[01:20:14] location and what stores shops and businesses are around you at the time plus whatever else it can gather now you can opt out of this feature but like with anything involving billionaires how protected are you really you know how how how to the letter of the law are they really going to be when it's like oh you can opt out but we're still going to get a lot of data from you because that's we're in the data business the new policy explicitly provides that the app collects data from users interactions

[01:20:43] with its ai tools quote including prompts questions files and other types of information that users submit to ai powered interfaces on tiktok as well as the responses that they generate the new additions about ai interactions also state that metadata associated with users ai interactions is also automatically collected you have no choice you can't opt out of that so uh what i imagine is

[01:21:10] files like if you upload an image of your child and say turn him into stitch eating hulk's face then now your child's face is used to train ai tools and this brings us to disney's partnership users might feel safe in using tiktok ai features to generate a clip of sully from monsters inc surfing with stitch i don't know why i'm so obsessed with stitch but every every example i come up with is stitch

[01:21:37] in it somewhere not knowing the level of access to their data they are giving up to oracle and i think it's interesting i think people should kind of know that kind of stuff so larry ellison got his start in the 70s building servers for the cia in fact oracle was a cia funded company in the 70s yes his goal was and still is to have a massive database of every american

[01:22:01] accessible at all times to the u.s government it's now his role to manage your data from tiktok and update your algorithm on the app so he is controlling what you see in your feed and he also helps netflix with their algorithm amazon with their algorithm so if you're on these things and you think what the hell are they showing me this is nonsense i don't even this this is the guy another member of the new

[01:22:26] tiktok team is a firm called mgx based in abu dhabi mgx are funding part of these seemingly hyper scaled ai data center build outs around the world joining with another company mgx have plans for a 500 billion dollar spend on ai data data centers in the u.s alone they got involved from what many call a backdoor deal spending two billion dollars on a stable coin from world liberty financial to invest

[01:22:53] in crypto platform binance world liberty financial for those of you paying attention is owned by the trump family and while they didn't claim the whole two billion the trump family definitely took home a tidy sum off the processing fees alone shortly after this transaction took place mgx was suddenly allowed by the federal government to purchase hundreds of thousands of advanced scarce computer chips despite national security concerns now this was back in those heady days where computer

[01:23:23] processors and memory cards were scarce due to the sudden ramp up at ai data centers but mgx was allowed to do that based on this and congress had like a whole thing where they were trying to prosecute or at least investigate why they were allowed conveniently after they spent two billion dollars but uh you know i'll let you guess what happened with that there's an israeli investor on the board a french investor and somehow those nations are fine to have access to your data data is a rather common commodity we leave

[01:23:52] traces of our daily lives in it wherever we go so what harm could your data do to you as it's reflected back with a lens of ill intent facebook was caught allowing cambridge analytica to harvest user data back in 2015 data that was then used to sway numerous elections for republican candidates in the u.s and across the world it took two years after facebook knowing of the data scraping to do anything

[01:24:16] about it facebook was never forced to sell itself anyway all this to say just know who your data is going to if you decide to climb back on tiktok and debrief the world at how miserable this season of big brother is this stuff matters and it's important to realize how much control you give up even the little things now it makes sense for disney to partner with a platform like tiktok at least for driving eyeballs to screens they mentioned in the press release quote according to internal tiktok data fans shared an

[01:24:45] average of 6.5 million film and tv related posts on tiktok each day last year underscoring the depth and daily momentum of entertainment fandom on the platform additionally nearly half of surveyed viewers said they went on to watch a movie or tv show on a streaming service or television after discovering entertainment content on tiktok that's all i have for my my commentary but that to me those numbers are

[01:25:11] crazy and it makes sense because i've i've definitely caught some tv show waves you know uh you know back in tiktok but all that is to say weird people are in control of your of your digital life and you are paying for that in your data and then your data is used to now train ai models to uh influence the stuff like if if you haven't heard about cambridge analytica go just go google them for 10 minutes you are

[01:25:38] going to freak yourself out the way that they can manipulate what you see online without you even knowing it is crazy now imagine that powered by ai with everything that you do it's it's freaky so if you are using tiktok go turn the data sharing off at least minimum if you're still going to be doing it and then also don't use your real you know don't put pictures of your children don't just don't don't do those things the end i feel like you wrote this article for me i told you you

[01:26:07] wouldn't like it i know yeah well i also did put the yeah big brother comment on there for you yeah um so anyway there you go if you guys we don't have disney plus so whenever it starts if you those of you who have disney plus and you you you look at the verts the how verts uh let me know how it is curious i'm curious to see what this content it can't be good it can't be interesting and i'm excuse me it is a weird push because it what do they want user generated content to to be

[01:26:37] how good do they think it's going to be like i'm not interested i barely want to hear myself talk about a movie that i've already seen that's disney i don't want someone else to act out a scene i don't i don't even know what it is and they're you know by all accounts nobody really knows it's just kind of a thing they're doing no but yeah i think i think the pipeline the other way is what is gonna make the bigger difference right it's it's like okay you can you hear i i see it kind of

[01:27:04] like audios right like like you you can use these approved disney scenes from their movies and if you use them there's also going to be a little tag that that pops up at the bottom that says tap here to open up disney plus and watch the rest of this movie oh sure oh yeah well it's funny tomorrow said like you know in acknowledging the loss that moana was he did say that it was fine because they moved a lot

[01:27:30] of merch and i'm i'm paraphrasing but that's all that's all that it is you know that's all that you want that's all that they want it's just well that's how they can that's all i want but that's how they can justify these things so yeah i think i think you're absolutely right where it's like well you know who cares that you know we're going to get people watching our content and that's all that we that's all we want wild all right taryn get us out of here it's 81.3 degrees in the studio at

[01:27:56] at 10 14 at night i'm hot i'm tired and i want to go to i want to go somewhere where it's cooler please this is a short one thank you and a good one oh i like potentially yeah so the next evolution of disney plus could be free disney could soon make it even easier and cheaper to watch some of its streaming content during the company's latest earning call disney ceo josh tomorrow revealed that

[01:28:22] the company is exploring a free ad supported streaming option similar to services like to be and pluto tv while nothing has been officially announced tomorrow said the idea is being seriously considered as a way to reach more viewers especially those who may not be ready to pay for a subscription yeah read poor yeah broke we've broken these people now we need to yep we need to give them these broken wings and teach them how to fly again exactly now the idea marks an interesting shift from

[01:28:52] disney plus's original mission when disney plus launched in 2019 bob eiger envisioned it as the exclusive streaming home for disney's biggest brands including disney pixar marvel star wars and national geographic the goal wasn't simply to compete with netflix it was to build a direct relationship with disney fans by bringing the company's most valuable content under one roof yeah but at the time disney focused heavily on growing subscribers even if it meant operating the

[01:29:22] service at a loss in its early years sure classic tech stuff by the way too yeah yeah in 2022 after bob chapex aggressive no quantity over quality mandate no budget shifting strategies and massive financial losses severely strange the disney plus's reputation of financial health former ceo bob eiger came back to the helm but this time rather than prioritizing subscriber growth he shifted the company's attention to making

[01:29:50] streaming streaming profitable raising prices bundling disney plus with hulu and espn cracking down on password sharing and being more selective on green lighting original content wow that is that is a take on history that you have that is wild i wrote that part for you yeah thanks man i like we're just basically subtweeting each other yeah yeah so tomorrow's idea to shift disney plus vision again isn't without

[01:30:18] precedent in fact a free streaming service would give disney something else it wants more advertising space right now the disney company's available ad inventory across disney plus and hulu is nearly sold out and adding a free ad supported platform would create more opportunities for advertisers while introducing new viewers to disney stream to the disney streaming ecosystem the hope for them is that some of those viewers would eventually upgrade to paid disney plus or hulu subscriptions now this announcement

[01:30:48] came alongside another major advertising milestone disney confirmed it has all this this trips me out has confirmed it has already sold every commercial spot for next year's super bowl which will air on abc and espn sure 30 second ads reportedly sold for around guests 30 second ads are probably gonna be

[01:31:09] eight million dollars right yeah we'll put it 12 million jason is the winner at nine million dollars each oh yeah brother for a 30 second ad like that's insane it is it is it absolutely is but um apparently it apparently advertising works i guess this is why i'm so bad at like so like i hate doing it right it's like and i think this whole channel suffers because of it because i don't like it i don't it's manipulation

[01:31:38] i don't like it i don't like to do it so i it makes me feel weird when i do it when i like self promo stuff which is why i'm probably really bad at it like even just talking about it it it freaks me flips my wig dude i don't like it and so like to hear that people are spending eight million dollars to do it to me nine million just give me that money now just give me the money and then i'll i'll get a tattoo

[01:32:01] of you on my forehead i don't care oh my god disney is not the only company looking at free streaming more media companies are experimenting with ad supported platforms as consumers become more selective about which streaming services they're willing to pay for which this tells me that you know over the course of the last few years there's so many different streaming services now that everyone like jumped on all of them because it was really cool at first and then they're like whoa whoa whoa i'm

[01:32:30] paying more than like cable for all this stuff right so they start cutting it back at least that's what we did yeah well and i think you know what it's showing me is and i don't know if you're done or not but um not quite it's showing me that uh uh you these companies make more money on advertising i mean advertising than they do on subscribers yeah they don't want you to subscribe they want to give as many ads possible because they can always raise the prices on the companies

[01:32:57] on the back end without you having it so they can just build coca-cola or whomever for more money and more money more money and raise that you know because oh we have the justification of more eyeballs and that or more eyeballs means whatever i mean they have you know just like in in podcasting there's a there's a you know percentage per thousand people that listen there's a dollar value on that there's a dollar value on the millions of of of tv watchers or whatever how many how many minutes do you do you

[01:33:24] put on this app well then we we we we advise we assign a value for that we can just raise that 25 percent but if you're talking if you want ads developed or delivered for eight million you know minutes well that's that's chunk of change that's going to go up and up i mean exactly without having to raise our prices yeah but they will do it anyway because as we already asserted in the beginning it's just capitalism baby right i mean this is basically exactly what you just said but by offering

[01:33:53] some content for free companies can reach a larger audience while generating advertising revenue and encouraging viewers to subscribe for more premium programming that's what hulu did right like yeah when hulu started it was free it was the the day after something was on air it was free yeah and then they introduced hulu plus which was like i think it was ad free and it it was maybe like

[01:34:18] the same day things came out or whatever um yeah it's funny it's funny that now disney owns hulu and now they're just circling back to the same way it's ai dude it's eating itself doing the same thing yeah suddenly we're gonna have commercials within commercials have you seen this thing speaking of commercials where like someone's posting about they bought a new beamer and there's a freaking ad on the screen oh i did see something like that there's an ad for like the

[01:34:45] new spider-man and he's like i am freaking pissed yeah he's like i don't have a subscription there's nothing to subscribe to on the car there but it came on the car i was like dude we are so messed dude we are so we're done in this in this world like we are just we have to sell to people all the time wow and it's annoying that's wild um for now disney says that there are no specific plans or launch date

[01:35:14] to announce but if the company does move forward it would mark another major shift in its streaming strategy and could give fans a new way to enjoy disney content without paying a monthly subscription fee i don't see why they wouldn't i don't see why they wouldn't either like just just do it like i don't i don't it doesn't seem like that big of a deal i mean yeah it seems like it's gonna benefit them places your over the air abc right because they have all those abc stations that are getting less and less

[01:35:41] views because cables getting cut and people aren't watching over the air it just replaces that almost one for one and and um yeah you're not gonna put the mandalorian you know you're not gonna put your best stuff out there right the day it comes out um and there's gonna be so many commercials oh dude that's one of the reasons we dropped netflix which we dropped netflix by the way i don't think we

[01:36:04] have many streaming services left because the commercials are just so obtrusive yeah and they're weird they cut in weird places and it's like dude i don't know i don't know how you can go back to commercials now like that's the part of the problem right like remember those days those beautiful days of of wine and roses where you cut the cord from cable and you go to streaming where there's no

[01:36:29] commercials at all and it's a brand new freaking day it's like you were talking about ryan was like everything's reset my my universe has been reset and then now it's just they're back and it costs more money to see these commercials because everything's back and oh my god man better like i hate to be like a get off my lawn type of guy but like i don't know there will be days where i will turn a commercial

[01:36:57] comp like a 90s commercial compilation on on youtube just because i'm like i just want to like you're a good little consumer dude and i appreciate you yeah that's so funny if you were here i'd pat you on the head but i charge you for it but i pat you on the head while i'm telling you about the latest tide pods yeah but it's just like no because we watch we watch tubi i think transformers i think the 86 version

[01:37:25] of transformers is on youtube and ted is obsessed with transformers right now that's cool and so we watch it and yeah it's just like it's the commercials are crappy that show up on there um and it you know that that's the tough part and it'll be interesting to see how many people do jump off of streaming services and on to something that is commercial right and versus who's just gonna start

[01:37:53] pirating again right nobody i know uh yeah yeah the uh what gets me about commercial roofhead and then we're gonna get it because now it's just a seinfeld episode but uh what what i hate about commercials is the ones that try to make it look like tiktok videos or ugc content where it's just like you know i just tried this hey fam this blew me away or like like kentucky fried chicken or whatever like sitting in their car like recording their reaction to their own like sandwich or whatever

[01:38:20] can we not this is so bad but that's what a lot of ugcs are that's what a lot of content creators are doing on tiktok and that's that kind of brings me back to what what uh you know disney was saying with their their career direction like what what is that what does that mean yeah it's probably going to be for taking some of this content repurposing it for for ads for streaming ads i don't know it'll be interesting to find out but let's get out of here dude we're done we're done brian thanks for

[01:38:49] joining us man i appreciate you fun absolutely my pleasure get you back on and do something else uh until eric's back uh we do have a secret show to do so maybe you can join us for that i'm trying to get mr p to do secret show with us but he's too cool or something probably yeah probably not anyway thanks a lot everybody for tuning in i appreciate you very much and until next time we'll see you in the parks if the water pressure lets us
