The ongoing series of special events at the Disneyland Resort, Disneyland After Dark, has been a success not only for the company, but for those guests who decided to brave the potential crowds in order to have the run of Disneyland. Tonight, we chat with two people who attended the recent "Disney Channel Nite" event to learn what it was that drew them there in the first place, what happens at these things, and if it was all worth it. Plus, we learn more about that funny little lamp, Luxo Junior, and we do some Disney News.

[00:00:39] Eeeeeeers up!
[00:00:42] Hey, what's going on everybody? Ears Up Podcast. We are back here. I don't know why.
[00:00:48] This has plagued me since day one, Taryn. I can't see you, which might be better for you.
[00:00:52] Oh yeah! We're back to that.
[00:00:54] I can just move.
[00:00:55] Well, I think I'm too far over. Like, I've got a shadow on my face. There's a whole thing going on.
[00:00:59] We are in the same room, but it's a very small room. So there's computer screens and stuff like that.
[00:01:05] So what are you going to do?
[00:01:06] But what's plagued me from the beginning of the show is figuring out how to start it.
[00:01:11] Having an intro. Because I realize I'm now in a pattern of like, we're back in the studio!
[00:01:16] We're burning and it's like, well, I mean, I live here. Where else am I going to go?
[00:01:20] Okay, but counterpoint.
[00:01:23] There's no point to make.
[00:01:25] So there is. If you have had this issue since actually day one in 2013, I would just say it's not an issue.
[00:01:33] It's just the way you start the show.
[00:01:34] It's been 10 years. I think you've kind of settled into it.
[00:01:37] It's been one week since you looked at me.
[00:01:39] I think it's just how it is and we shouldn't worry about it anymore.
[00:01:43] But yeah, but it makes me uncomfortable. It throws me off. I feel unprepared.
[00:01:47] This is kind of a throwback because he complained about not knowing how to start the show in quite some time.
[00:01:54] There you go, man. That is true.
[00:01:56] Keeping your toes. Keeping your toes, Eric. That's what I'm trying to do.
[00:01:59] We have a good show for you today.
[00:02:01] We are going to be talking about the Disney Channel night that happened.
[00:02:05] It was a couple of months ago and we have some special guests who actually went to this thing because we didn't go.
[00:02:11] Are you kidding me? What are we going to do? Go to a thing?
[00:02:16] How dare...
[00:02:17] Stop it. Stop.
[00:02:18] No.
[00:02:19] How dare us?
[00:02:20] We could never leave the house.
[00:02:21] No. There's no... Do you know what's out there? Other people.
[00:02:25] Other people are out there.
[00:02:27] It's true.
[00:02:28] You see them walking by.
[00:02:29] It's true.
[00:02:30] And it's like, oh, I don't want to do that. I make notes in my little notebooks.
[00:02:33] I got notebooks and I go...
[00:02:34] Oh boy.
[00:02:35] ...at the age of probably 35, 36, walking dog, 10, 48 a.m.
[00:02:40] I'm scared because I feel like it is something you would do.
[00:02:43] It's muttering inside the house. Keep going.
[00:02:46] Keep going.
[00:02:47] Oh, your screen is glitching.
[00:02:48] Keep on walking.
[00:02:49] It is, isn't it?
[00:02:50] Yeah.
[00:02:51] You're fucked.
[00:02:52] You're like AI.
[00:02:53] Okay. Well, hopefully it's not on the recording.
[00:02:56] Yeah.
[00:02:59] Whatever. Who cares?
[00:03:02] I'm like 80% done with the studio getting put together.
[00:03:06] 10 years later.
[00:03:07] Tell me about it, dude. Whatever.
[00:03:10] Anyway...
[00:03:11] It'll give the show those rave vibes that you're looking for.
[00:03:14] That's right. Yes.
[00:03:15] Exactly me. The drum and bass night is what we have here.
[00:03:21] We're rolling deep.
[00:03:24] We got some pacifiers into water.
[00:03:26] Everyone's going to feel right at home.
[00:03:28] No, we have Carrie and Omari on the show with us.
[00:03:32] And these two lovely people went to the Disney Channel night
[00:03:36] and they're going to tell us all about it.
[00:03:38] I have that outline from them.
[00:03:39] This is like probably the most prepared I've ever demanded to guest, you know, be.
[00:03:44] Yeah, I love it.
[00:03:45] Yeah. It's great because then I didn't know I know what's going on
[00:03:48] because before I was like Disney Channel night.
[00:03:50] I mean that sounds cool, but I don't know what it is.
[00:03:53] But they put together an outline.
[00:03:55] We're going to be talking to them about where you going?
[00:03:57] Why are you leaving?
[00:03:58] Oh God.
[00:03:59] Well, she's gone. All right.
[00:04:02] One down.
[00:04:03] Yeah.
[00:04:04] That's right. Eric, what are you doing?
[00:04:06] You got something to do?
[00:04:07] I just ran a race.
[00:04:09] So I'm very I'm still very tired.
[00:04:11] Oh, you must be in shape because you don't sound out of breath at all.
[00:04:14] Well, I didn't run it like just just now.
[00:04:17] Just now I walked down the stairs a few times.
[00:04:20] So I was out of breath, but I caught my breath because I'm out of shape.
[00:04:25] But I ran a 10 mile race on Sunday in really world.
[00:04:29] In Disney World.
[00:04:30] Oh, so you're like fresh off the plane.
[00:04:32] Did you win?
[00:04:34] Thank you for being the person who asked that because I feel bad.
[00:04:40] I feel bad.
[00:04:41] Nobody else has asked me that and I've told it like someone will always ask you,
[00:04:45] did you win?
[00:04:46] And none of my coworkers asked me if I won.
[00:04:51] No one loves you like I love you.
[00:04:54] That's why well, I love you too.
[00:04:56] And the first five the first five miles I totally crushed it.
[00:05:00] I was yeah, I met I met my goals, which was basically run at the pay.
[00:05:05] Like I'm not I'm not back up to to my my old speed and everything since the back
[00:05:11] surgery and all that.
[00:05:12] So it was like, how long can I go at my current training speed?
[00:05:17] And the answer is five miles out of 10.
[00:05:19] And I thought that was pretty damn awesome.
[00:05:21] So better than I could do.
[00:05:23] I felt pretty good.
[00:05:25] Awesome. Good job, man.
[00:05:27] I know you're dodging the question.
[00:05:29] You didn't win.
[00:05:30] I did not win.
[00:05:32] My age group, not in my weight class, not in my back surgery group.
[00:05:38] Yeah, all group of recent surgeries and run.
[00:05:41] They're very inclusive and run and run Disney.
[00:05:43] Yeah.
[00:05:44] Did they as long as you didn't get swept up?
[00:05:47] Oh no, no, I did know where like if you don't meet the time and then
[00:05:51] little golf cart comes around and picks up the trash.
[00:05:53] The balloon ladies, they they're following at the end.
[00:05:57] They're notorious and I did not get swept.
[00:06:01] That's good. God bless.
[00:06:02] I did get lapped by David Sallie, one of our listeners.
[00:06:07] How did he get lapped in a 10 K?
[00:06:09] I guess he started a corral behind me.
[00:06:13] Oh, he overtook you.
[00:06:15] Yeah.
[00:06:16] He started the race probably half an hour after me and
[00:06:19] Wow.
[00:06:20] Approximately one minute before I did.
[00:06:24] Did he shame you as he passed?
[00:06:26] No, he we didn't know.
[00:06:28] He was like, I'm going to turn around and run backwards.
[00:06:31] I might, I might have clocked him for that one.
[00:06:34] But yeah, I didn't even notice him passing me because I was so
[00:06:38] focused on like just get across the finish line.
[00:06:40] Like my leg.
[00:06:41] Yeah.
[00:06:42] One of my legs was cramping.
[00:06:44] Oh man.
[00:06:45] Cause I stepped funny on a weird thing and like the last
[00:06:47] mile was just go, go, just keep going.
[00:06:50] And yeah, then I crossed the finish line and as after
[00:06:54] I got my medal, I'm going a little bit further and heading
[00:06:57] toward the, the underwrite banana and the rest of the treats
[00:07:00] that you get.
[00:07:01] I came across David and his daughter and I said, when did
[00:07:06] you guys get here?
[00:07:07] And they're like, we literally just got here.
[00:07:09] And I said, so you passed me at the finish line.
[00:07:14] Great.
[00:07:15] Damn.
[00:07:16] They didn't even help you over the finish line.
[00:07:18] They didn't like slow down like those Canyon dudes did
[00:07:20] for that Chinese runner last week or whatever.
[00:07:22] No, they did not because there's no need for them to
[00:07:25] take pity on me.
[00:07:26] They started way after me and they're also healthy.
[00:07:30] Oh, okay.
[00:07:31] All right.
[00:07:32] Well, look, you know, that's I'm glad you survived, man.
[00:07:34] You got your little metal.
[00:07:36] Did you wear it around like a big jock?
[00:07:38] Like Jeremy would do.
[00:07:39] I totally did.
[00:07:40] Only one day.
[00:07:41] Jeremy would have yelled at me on Monday.
[00:07:43] Race wasn't happening when I didn't wear the metal.
[00:07:46] Hey, nice metal.
[00:07:48] Too bad it was yesterday.
[00:07:49] No, he would have yelled at me on Monday for not
[00:07:53] wearing the metal the rest of the week that I was there.
[00:07:55] Oh, I see.
[00:07:56] He has done so in the past.
[00:07:58] Where's your metal?
[00:07:59] Where's your metal?
[00:08:00] Like that was yesterday, man.
[00:08:01] You earned it.
[00:08:02] You earned it.
[00:08:04] Typical Jeremy.
[00:08:05] Thanks, Jeremy.
[00:08:06] Well, if you want to be abused with a bunch of other people
[00:08:09] for these run Disney events or whatever,
[00:08:11] contact concierge and ask them when the next run
[00:08:13] Disney events going to be.
[00:08:14] Maybe they know.
[00:08:15] Maybe they don't know.
[00:08:16] But if they do know, they'll help you plan for it.
[00:08:18] You can go to any of the parks wherever the run
[00:08:20] Disney thing is happening.
[00:08:22] I'll set you up with hotels.
[00:08:23] We'll do all that kind of stuff.
[00:08:24] And it's no additional charge.
[00:08:26] It's just what the parks are going to charge you,
[00:08:28] but there's so much more that you get.
[00:08:30] You get that hands on service.
[00:08:31] You get that one-on-one conversation.
[00:08:34] You get back rubs from Jimmy foot rubs from Jimmy.
[00:08:37] I'm not supposed to say that it's a new thing.
[00:08:39] They're rolling out.
[00:08:40] So just ask for that when you guys book and.
[00:08:43] You don't have to he'll show up anyway.
[00:08:46] Yeah.
[00:08:47] Yeah.
[00:08:48] The sound you hear at night outside in the bushes.
[00:08:51] Conceers.
[00:08:52] They're just making sure everything's cool.
[00:08:54] Doing a sweep or doing a flare drop.
[00:08:56] Mm-hmm.
[00:08:57] Yeah.
[00:08:58] It'll be great.
[00:08:59] It'll be good speaking of Jimmy.
[00:09:01] I was texting with him today because we have a scraping the
[00:09:05] vault ears up collaboration show coming.
[00:09:08] Oh no.
[00:09:09] Yeah, I know it's going to be great.
[00:09:11] You mean.
[00:09:12] Oh yeah is what you mean.
[00:09:13] Oh yeah.
[00:09:14] Yeah.
[00:09:15] The show's that I'm on.
[00:09:17] Here's here's good news.
[00:09:19] So I have to push that show.
[00:09:21] We're going to do we're going to do that show in June.
[00:09:23] Number one, it was supposed to be in like a month.
[00:09:26] We haven't talked about it.
[00:09:27] It's like let's push it back.
[00:09:28] But two, I've set the hook.
[00:09:32] I don't know.
[00:09:33] We haven't discussed details yet, but I have Stan freeze on
[00:09:37] the line for coming on the show finally.
[00:09:41] All right.
[00:09:42] Yeah.
[00:09:43] I'm pretty excited about it.
[00:09:45] Yeah.
[00:09:46] I'm reading his book.
[00:09:47] I finally started his book the other day.
[00:09:49] I was just like sitting here and depressed.
[00:09:52] I'm like, oh my God, I need work.
[00:09:54] I'm so I hate everything.
[00:09:56] I should just let me just read this book.
[00:09:58] And it's like the first paragraph is hilarious and the
[00:10:00] guy is just funny.
[00:10:02] And he's remind it's very reminiscent of the Rolly
[00:10:05] Crump book in the way that he sort of reflects on his
[00:10:08] life in a very humorous fashion.
[00:10:11] And there's a lot of stuff you don't really expect in there.
[00:10:14] I'm 20 pages deep or whatever.
[00:10:17] But it's great.
[00:10:18] It's a great book and something, you know what?
[00:10:20] I find I'm just going to reach out to him.
[00:10:22] I follow him on LinkedIn of all places.
[00:10:24] And yeah.
[00:10:26] And I try to I try to reach out to him, but it's like
[00:10:28] you must upgrade to premium and you have five email
[00:10:32] credits.
[00:10:33] It's like, thanks.
[00:10:34] Thanks.
[00:10:35] Okay.
[00:10:36] And so but you get a month free.
[00:10:38] So yes, I will pay zero dollars to email Stan freeze.
[00:10:42] So I wrote to him.
[00:10:43] I reached out to him.
[00:10:44] I was like, Oh my God.
[00:10:45] And I felt just like in high school or middle school where
[00:10:48] you pass the note and then you like leave.
[00:10:50] Oh, I can't.
[00:10:51] I got it.
[00:10:52] I don't know what I want to know what they say.
[00:10:54] I just I can't watch them open the note.
[00:10:56] Right.
[00:10:57] And so I closed LinkedIn.
[00:10:59] I just do whatever it is.
[00:11:00] Let's check my email and says Stan freeze has
[00:11:02] accepted your message.
[00:11:03] I'm like, Oh my God.
[00:11:04] I haven't checked my email for like a day.
[00:11:07] And then finally I looked and there was no I'm expecting
[00:11:10] an email back saying he replied either, you know, go away.
[00:11:15] My son Josh told me you were terrible.
[00:11:18] So I'm never coming on your show.
[00:11:19] Like these are the things I expect right.
[00:11:21] But I didn't see anything about whatever.
[00:11:22] And then so I get like a job alert and then in my
[00:11:25] email.
[00:11:26] So I click on it and it takes me through LinkedIn and
[00:11:27] then my messages pop up and stands right at the top
[00:11:30] and just says, sure with an exclamation point.
[00:11:32] I'm like, Oh man, what a load off.
[00:11:35] The man put like a thousand pages on his life and
[00:11:37] he responds to an email with one word.
[00:11:40] Sure.
[00:11:41] Well, I was like, let me know if you're interested and
[00:11:43] we'll pin a date down.
[00:11:45] Kind of a thing.
[00:11:46] All right.
[00:11:47] I mean, yeah, cool.
[00:11:48] I'm forward to it.
[00:11:49] I love this guy.
[00:11:50] The more I learn about him, I this guy's great.
[00:11:52] Yeah, me too, man.
[00:11:54] So look forward to that.
[00:11:55] I'm going to try to pin them down.
[00:11:59] The second show next month.
[00:12:00] So it was like the 26th or so something like that.
[00:12:04] Okay.
[00:12:05] So it gives me time to read the book.
[00:12:07] The book's like 300 pages.
[00:12:08] Yeah.
[00:12:09] And I just learning how to read, you know what I mean?
[00:12:13] I read some of the stuff Alice brings home where
[00:12:16] it's like Jake baked a cake.
[00:12:19] Okay.
[00:12:20] Very hard.
[00:12:21] K K K K.
[00:12:22] K K K.
[00:12:23] Alice is like cake dad, dad cake.
[00:12:25] Two K's.
[00:12:27] Anyway, that's what's happening here on the channel.
[00:12:29] Everybody we're getting, we're getting Stan freeze
[00:12:31] here and it's going to be good times.
[00:12:34] Love it.
[00:12:35] Yeah.
[00:12:36] All right, Carrie.
[00:12:39] Are you ready?
[00:12:40] Let's talk to Disney Channel night.
[00:12:43] I'm, I'm carried and I'm ready to talk about Disney.
[00:12:47] Welcome.
[00:12:48] Hello.
[00:12:49] This is what I do.
[00:12:50] I just, there's no transition.
[00:12:51] It just code or goes more and barrels right into the next
[00:12:54] segment.
[00:12:55] So can somebody sing me in or something?
[00:12:57] You want some music?
[00:12:58] I can, I can find some music.
[00:13:01] I'll see you all for a yes.
[00:13:04] Yeah.
[00:13:05] Please sing, sing opera.
[00:13:07] The opera singer I lied.
[00:13:09] Oh my gosh.
[00:13:10] I was just in there.
[00:13:11] The lights won't.
[00:13:12] All right.
[00:13:13] Carrie.
[00:13:14] Now we're welcome to the show you guys.
[00:13:17] I appreciate you coming on.
[00:13:19] We did in fact use concierge to acquire these.
[00:13:24] So I could just go do my job and not stress about getting
[00:13:29] on the computer at the right time.
[00:13:31] Because as you know, the tickets go on sale and then people
[00:13:34] go and get them.
[00:13:35] And there is the same anxiety about the ticket selling out
[00:13:39] for some strange reason.
[00:13:41] These tickets didn't just sell out right away.
[00:13:44] Really?
[00:13:45] Because you know, there was a, we were talking, I think in
[00:13:47] discord or I forget where, but I saw a lot of people
[00:13:51] excited for this.
[00:13:52] I thought it would be really kind of an in-demand ticket
[00:13:55] event.
[00:13:56] I thought the same thing.
[00:13:59] And then I had a second thought that maybe it's like me and
[00:14:03] my delusion being excited about it.
[00:14:06] And like normal people, not so much.
[00:14:08] Yeah.
[00:14:09] They're like, I don't know.
[00:14:10] Is there, is there avatar in it?
[00:14:12] Cause I'll go then, you know, the fandom is weird.
[00:14:16] The Disney fandom is weird because we, especially for me,
[00:14:20] the things that I think people won't like though,
[00:14:22] they're all over the place.
[00:14:24] They love it.
[00:14:25] You know, whatever.
[00:14:26] And then there's the police versa.
[00:14:27] Like on the Disneyland subreddit when they were talking
[00:14:29] about avatar landcoming and people are like,
[00:14:31] who's going to do this?
[00:14:32] And then a lot of people are like, I love it.
[00:14:34] I can't wait.
[00:14:35] It blows me away.
[00:14:36] So I'm with you on that.
[00:14:37] You never know.
[00:14:38] Yes.
[00:14:39] And then, yeah.
[00:14:40] So the tickets for this event were 139.
[00:14:44] And this is less than a park hopper and it's only a
[00:14:48] little bit more than a single-part ticket.
[00:14:50] And I think that's really important to consider when
[00:14:52] you're deciding about whether or not you want to
[00:14:54] go on a special event as I really feel like we got,
[00:14:58] not only got our money's worth of going on attractions,
[00:15:02] but that it was a far more pleasant experience than
[00:15:08] like the 12 hour park day that you would normally do.
[00:15:15] So we got, we rolled in there, I think around seven ish
[00:15:20] and knowing that the event was going to go from eight
[00:15:23] to one a.m. and then at eight, eight p.m. they're going to
[00:15:26] kick out the regular ticket holders and just have the
[00:15:29] special event to give people the park.
[00:15:31] Yeah.
[00:15:32] So we didn't want too much mixing in time because the
[00:15:34] whole reason we're going is to not mix in.
[00:15:37] Not no offense to any humans.
[00:15:40] There's a lot of you.
[00:15:42] It's like, whoa.
[00:15:43] But get out of my park.
[00:15:44] Yeah.
[00:15:45] Right.
[00:15:46] Yeah.
[00:15:47] And it's really like, it's definitely a deterrent for a
[00:15:49] lot of people going.
[00:15:51] So anyway, we rolled in around seven and we got this.
[00:15:55] I guess they call it a souvenir badge.
[00:16:00] It's like a TV with mouse ears.
[00:16:03] You can't see any of the text on that.
[00:16:05] Well, it's not really important.
[00:16:07] It's not anyway.
[00:16:08] Yeah.
[00:16:09] It's like the Disney Channel old logo right now.
[00:16:12] Yeah.
[00:16:13] Well again, it's just, I don't know.
[00:16:14] It's paper.
[00:16:15] It's cute.
[00:16:16] And you get, yeah.
[00:16:17] Okay.
[00:16:18] That's yellow.
[00:16:19] And, you know, we could all use lanyards for.
[00:16:22] Lanier things.
[00:16:23] Yeah.
[00:16:24] Sure.
[00:16:25] Things you would put on a lanyard.
[00:16:26] Yeah.
[00:16:27] Your badge.
[00:16:28] Okay.
[00:16:29] Or other lanyards really.
[00:16:30] And just keep it going.
[00:16:31] Make a chain.
[00:16:32] They gave us a map of the special events.
[00:16:34] All of which we tried to avoid.
[00:16:36] We were there.
[00:16:38] To go on rides.
[00:16:40] And not go to dance parties.
[00:16:42] Hold on.
[00:16:43] Hold on.
[00:16:44] So you, so you, but you, you bought the tickets.
[00:16:47] To just go on the rides.
[00:16:49] So you're, it's like gaming the system kind of for you.
[00:16:52] You're like, okay, well all these.
[00:16:53] Shlubs are going to be doing the stuff.
[00:16:55] I'm going on rides.
[00:16:57] Yeah.
[00:16:58] Yeah.
[00:16:59] Okay.
[00:17:00] Okay.
[00:17:01] The fireworks too.
[00:17:02] Yeah.
[00:17:03] Oh yeah.
[00:17:04] You got to do that.
[00:17:05] That's the smart move.
[00:17:06] But I've never heard this.
[00:17:07] I've never heard of going to an event specifically to do.
[00:17:10] So we're all of the rides open.
[00:17:13] No, not all of them.
[00:17:15] So rise of the resistance is never going to be open unless it's,
[00:17:19] um,
[00:17:20] it's never going to be open on a special event unless it's, uh,
[00:17:23] that Star Wars night because they,
[00:17:25] they have that pay for the fast pass thing.
[00:17:28] Okay.
[00:17:29] And they're going to want to,
[00:17:30] they're going to want to keep making that money.
[00:17:32] So that's closed.
[00:17:33] But the only other two rides that were closed were a splash
[00:17:38] mountain and hot mansion,
[00:17:39] both of because of their big, um,
[00:17:41] refurbishment reduce.
[00:17:44] And I can, you know,
[00:17:45] I consider that to be really,
[00:17:47] really generous like Indiana Jones being open still and
[00:17:51] jungle cruise all the way over to small world.
[00:17:54] Mickey and Minnie's railway was open.
[00:17:56] Unfortunately broke down and we did not get on it.
[00:17:59] But it was open.
[00:18:01] I know like some of these events, um,
[00:18:04] at least when I was looking at going, you know, years ago,
[00:18:07] um,
[00:18:08] It was like sections of the park.
[00:18:10] I don't recall them just being just all basically all the
[00:18:14] ride in the park.
[00:18:15] Like for me,
[00:18:16] for all the way from adventure land to toon town to me,
[00:18:18] that's like too much.
[00:18:19] I would not expect.
[00:18:22] You can sort of go anywhere.
[00:18:23] It's, it's not too much.
[00:18:25] No, no.
[00:18:27] Well, I mean, yes,
[00:18:28] from an enjoyment standpoint,
[00:18:30] it is, it's not enough.
[00:18:32] Um, but you know,
[00:18:33] from a park standpoint,
[00:18:34] I would think like that's that.
[00:18:35] Yeah, I wouldn't expect that,
[00:18:37] but that's a really nice,
[00:18:38] that's a welcome surprise.
[00:18:39] How many people were,
[00:18:41] how many people were there?
[00:18:42] Do you think
[00:18:43] I'm not sure.
[00:18:44] And it's really hard to tell,
[00:18:46] but it must have,
[00:18:47] I'm sure we could like Google it and find out what they kept
[00:18:51] the crowds at,
[00:18:52] but it was so like some places were so empty,
[00:18:55] so empty,
[00:18:57] empty.
[00:18:58] Um,
[00:18:59] it was,
[00:19:00] it was really,
[00:19:01] it was mind boggling.
[00:19:03] Yeah.
[00:19:04] We really just were walking on like Indiana,
[00:19:07] Jones,
[00:19:08] Space Mountain,
[00:19:10] Jungle Cruise,
[00:19:11] like half empty boat.
[00:19:12] Like it was,
[00:19:13] Oh yeah.
[00:19:14] It felt very lush.
[00:19:16] Man, that sounds,
[00:19:17] that's the experience that I want.
[00:19:19] That's almost like the experience we talk about.
[00:19:20] We used to go like,
[00:19:21] oh, you know,
[00:19:22] if you go,
[00:19:23] um, in like,
[00:19:24] you know,
[00:19:25] February or January,
[00:19:26] there's nobody there and it rains.
[00:19:28] Oh my God.
[00:19:29] It's the best thing in the world.
[00:19:30] That's what it sounds like.
[00:19:32] Yeah.
[00:19:33] And as an adult,
[00:19:34] I've been seeking.
[00:19:35] I've been seeking the perfect,
[00:19:37] the perfect weekend there.
[00:19:39] Um, since I started taking a Mari,
[00:19:42] when she was like four or five,
[00:19:45] I've always been seeking.
[00:19:46] And I think,
[00:19:47] I think I finally found it.
[00:19:48] So we were,
[00:19:49] we were like going on rainy days in February
[00:19:51] and middle of the week and all that stuff.
[00:19:54] And it was,
[00:19:55] it was good,
[00:19:56] but this was special and nighttime.
[00:19:59] Um,
[00:20:00] and then like there were these surprising bonuses
[00:20:03] that we weren't expecting to enjoy.
[00:20:06] No offense to babies, but the lack of,
[00:20:09] all the babies listening right now,
[00:20:11] please cover your ears.
[00:20:12] Skip forward.
[00:20:13] Please.
[00:20:14] Yeah.
[00:20:15] So the lack of babies and little children.
[00:20:18] What's the one?
[00:20:19] Yeah.
[00:20:20] Okay.
[00:20:21] I get it.
[00:20:22] I get it.
[00:20:23] I get it.
[00:20:24] That's,
[00:20:25] that is absolutely,
[00:20:26] especially if you're trying to just cruise through rides,
[00:20:29] you do sort of get at a lot of things.
[00:20:32] You sort of get at a loggerhead, I guess.
[00:20:34] Um, when you have people dealing with kids or there's a meltdown,
[00:20:37] you happen to walk through fantasy land and the kids too hot or whatever.
[00:20:41] Totally acceptable.
[00:20:42] You're there.
[00:20:43] And it's,
[00:20:44] yeah.
[00:20:45] And it's interesting because you know,
[00:20:47] framing this in the,
[00:20:48] um,
[00:20:49] sort of guerrilla,
[00:20:50] you know,
[00:20:51] style attack on the park that you pulled or yours.
[00:20:54] We're there to maximize rides.
[00:20:58] That is another bonus.
[00:20:59] You're absolutely right.
[00:21:01] Nothing to slow you down.
[00:21:03] Yeah.
[00:21:04] And we also weren't expecting this like vibe of very cult,
[00:21:10] like familial,
[00:21:13] like we're all,
[00:21:16] we're all in this together.
[00:21:19] We're special here at night.
[00:21:21] Yeah.
[00:21:22] It was like extra friendly among the people there.
[00:21:27] Weird.
[00:21:28] Okay.
[00:21:29] Star Wars was extra fun.
[00:21:30] Star Wars was extra fun because when it like showed who the spy
[00:21:35] I was,
[00:21:36] the people next to him just went that guy and then at the end
[00:21:39] all of us were just like, are you okay?
[00:21:44] Traumatized.
[00:21:46] Really calling a party five like throw the park.
[00:21:50] Yeah.
[00:21:51] Okay.
[00:21:52] Have you, so this is the Disneyland at night,
[00:21:54] uh, series.
[00:21:55] I guess had you done anything like this before these other
[00:21:57] little special ticketed events.
[00:21:59] Not since my own grad night.
[00:22:03] I mean, I went to school down there.
[00:22:05] So yeah.
[00:22:06] So yeah.
[00:22:07] That's what like,
[00:22:08] I don't want to say how long ago.
[00:22:10] That's fine.
[00:22:11] You don't need to couple years ago.
[00:22:12] It's fine.
[00:22:13] This is like a present for you.
[00:22:15] This is great.
[00:22:16] It sounds like it couldn't have gotten any better.
[00:22:18] What were the,
[00:22:19] what were the wait times like just that you were
[00:22:21] experiencing across the parks?
[00:22:23] It was there.
[00:22:24] Mwah.
[00:22:25] Chef's kiss.
[00:22:26] Mwah.
[00:22:27] Everything was like walk on maybe 15 minutes max.
[00:22:33] Um,
[00:22:34] sounds like a dream from 2003.
[00:22:36] I haven't gone on Peter Pan in like four years.
[00:22:39] Oh,
[00:22:40] right.
[00:22:41] And I finally got to go on it again.
[00:22:43] And then I realized why I wasn't going on it.
[00:22:45] Yeah.
[00:22:46] He didn't like it.
[00:22:47] It was so short.
[00:22:49] It was making really concerning freaking noises the whole time.
[00:22:52] It's definitely getting there.
[00:22:53] I didn't like that.
[00:22:54] Oh no.
[00:22:55] A little scary Peter Pan right now.
[00:22:57] That's how it's for, it's fine.
[00:22:58] I can't fly.
[00:22:59] No,
[00:23:00] I shouldn't be flying this is like flying a bowing these days.
[00:23:05] American Airlines like, um,
[00:23:07] interesting.
[00:23:08] Okay.
[00:23:09] Man short rides.
[00:23:10] Was that Peter Pan?
[00:23:11] Like a walk on cause that's like everyone's top tier,
[00:23:14] you know,
[00:23:15] it was a little 10 minutes 15 minutes,
[00:23:20] 15 max.
[00:23:21] Yeah.
[00:23:22] Were there any other rides?
[00:23:23] All those step and your hunt things.
[00:23:25] Sorry.
[00:23:26] Were there any other rides like that,
[00:23:28] that like you just don't normally go on cause their lines are too
[00:23:31] long,
[00:23:32] but this kind of gave you that opportunity.
[00:23:34] Well,
[00:23:35] it really gave us the opportunity to go on more than once.
[00:23:38] And that way I felt like as if we really gorged ourselves on
[00:23:42] the attractions.
[00:23:43] Um,
[00:23:44] instead of like petering out and fading out.
[00:23:46] So it was like,
[00:23:47] I always want to go on Alice more than once and I got to, um,
[00:23:51] and some things like we wouldn't bother going on snow.
[00:23:54] Like,
[00:23:55] we don't really like how.
[00:23:56] Yeah.
[00:23:57] I like the scary part.
[00:23:58] Yeah.
[00:23:59] Good to know.
[00:24:00] Yeah.
[00:24:01] And yeah,
[00:24:02] being able to end our night, um,
[00:24:04] was going on pirates again and literally having a vote to
[00:24:07] ourselves was,
[00:24:08] was the best thing that I've ever done.
[00:24:10] Um,
[00:24:11] I've been doing this for like a year or so.
[00:24:14] And it does feel like that's one of those things where you used
[00:24:17] to be able to do.
[00:24:18] Now you can't.
[00:24:19] Especially with,
[00:24:20] even with the reservation system, I guess.
[00:24:22] And,
[00:24:23] and yeah,
[00:24:24] that's like one of those rare moments for me.
[00:24:26] That's almost worth the price of admission for this special
[00:24:29] event.
[00:24:30] It sounds like this is the only way I want to go back to
[00:24:32] Disneyland.
[00:24:33] Right?
[00:24:34] You get a,
[00:24:35] you get a small window,
[00:24:36] but you pay full ticket price.
[00:24:37] But you get a small window,
[00:24:38] but you pay full ticket price.
[00:24:39] But you get a small window.
[00:24:40] But you get a small window,
[00:24:42] but you pay full ticket price basically.
[00:24:44] And you just slam it.
[00:24:46] Well,
[00:24:47] you pay double price, don't you?
[00:24:48] Cause you have to pay for admission and then this or is it
[00:24:50] separate?
[00:24:51] Oh, okay.
[00:24:52] You just, yeah,
[00:24:53] you just pay for this and you give in a little bit early.
[00:24:56] So you get those hours too.
[00:24:57] I think value wise,
[00:24:58] this is 110% the way to go.
[00:25:01] And my husband doesn't really dig going either because
[00:25:05] it's too crowded.
[00:25:06] Um,
[00:25:07] and when he heard about it and how it was, he's,
[00:25:10] he's going to come with us next time.
[00:25:12] I'm pretty sure.
[00:25:13] Cool.
[00:25:14] Just for the,
[00:25:15] just for the Disney channel one or you're going to just try
[00:25:18] to do these, this is how you're going to be going from
[00:25:21] now on.
[00:25:22] This is how,
[00:25:23] this is how I want to go from now on.
[00:25:24] Okay.
[00:25:25] Go to an after hours.
[00:25:26] I don't know if they're going to do Disney channel night
[00:25:28] again.
[00:25:29] I'm not sure it performed the way they were.
[00:25:33] Doesn't sound like it maybe did.
[00:25:37] There's just the empty.
[00:25:38] What were some of the fun things that they have that you,
[00:25:40] that you totally ditched?
[00:25:43] Karaoke.
[00:25:44] I'm putting it out there because that sounds real weird with
[00:25:48] like a bajillion people.
[00:25:50] Yeah.
[00:25:51] Yeah.
[00:25:52] I'm not trying to do that in front of strangers.
[00:25:56] I guess,
[00:25:57] I guess what like what's with the wood songs really like
[00:26:00] Hannah Montana songs like Disney channel stuff or what
[00:26:03] like, yeah.
[00:26:04] I heard something.
[00:26:06] I don't know what I recognize it.
[00:26:08] They had dance parties.
[00:26:10] They had like life performances,
[00:26:12] lots of photo ops.
[00:26:14] Hmm.
[00:26:15] Yeah.
[00:26:16] Voice actors and stuff like actors,
[00:26:18] voice actors were there.
[00:26:20] Oh, okay.
[00:26:21] That's fun.
[00:26:22] How did you know who they were?
[00:26:24] No, no, no.
[00:26:26] Were there signs or something?
[00:26:29] Were there signs that said like,
[00:26:31] I'm the voice of captain?
[00:26:34] Yeah.
[00:26:35] And then like the guide map they give you has what all the
[00:26:38] what all the special events that you guys are.
[00:26:40] And on the other side of it is the all the special
[00:26:43] events for the food.
[00:26:44] That's another line.
[00:26:45] So, you know,
[00:26:46] people are waiting in lines for their photo ops and their
[00:26:49] meet and greets and they're waiting in line for the
[00:26:51] specialty food.
[00:26:52] And if you live there and that's what you want to do,
[00:26:54] that's fine.
[00:26:55] But if you don't live there,
[00:26:56] you wouldn't go on the rides.
[00:26:58] That's what you do.
[00:27:00] Yeah.
[00:27:01] So they also have the specialty food,
[00:27:03] photo ops, dance parties, karaoke.
[00:27:06] Oh, cosplay.
[00:27:08] So you can that's another big deal of the after hours
[00:27:11] events is people dressing up and people were just
[00:27:15] waiting it.
[00:27:16] It was someone in some insane college dress or something.
[00:27:20] Big ball gown.
[00:27:22] Yeah.
[00:27:23] Really?
[00:27:24] Yeah.
[00:27:25] They're crazy.
[00:27:26] They really are.
[00:27:28] Delta with expendable income.
[00:27:30] Yeah, they're children with money.
[00:27:32] Hey now.
[00:27:33] I'm a real children with money.
[00:27:36] I am an adult child.
[00:27:38] That sounds cool.
[00:27:40] Did you guys didn't dress up or anything?
[00:27:42] I mean, what would you dress up at?
[00:27:44] Okay.
[00:27:45] What did you dress up?
[00:27:46] I'm down, but I did.
[00:27:48] I got like this chief dress of Jack Skellington off of
[00:27:51] Amazon did some basic makeup and she was zero.
[00:27:53] Oh, how cute.
[00:27:55] Very cute.
[00:27:56] I love it.
[00:27:57] Yeah.
[00:27:58] And then we wore our true shirts the next day.
[00:28:00] Oh, yeah.
[00:28:01] Yeah.
[00:28:02] Yeah.
[00:28:03] Appreciate that.
[00:28:05] That's good.
[00:28:06] I appreciate that.
[00:28:07] That's awesome.
[00:28:08] I do have to give a caveat as we're all,
[00:28:12] I think we're all in the same major.
[00:28:14] And being at this event,
[00:28:19] I think the first two or three hours was like
[00:28:25] great prime energy.
[00:28:26] I'm singing and dancing and jumping and running from thing to
[00:28:30] thing.
[00:28:31] It's awesome.
[00:28:32] And then around 11 midnight,
[00:28:36] I'm not sure where I am.
[00:28:39] That's late.
[00:28:43] I'm three hours into my sleep by that point.
[00:28:47] Like that's yeah, you're drunk on power.
[00:28:50] Yeah.
[00:28:51] It's like the Cinderella thing,
[00:28:52] but instead of turning into a pumpkin,
[00:28:54] you turn into the age you really are.
[00:28:56] Fair enough.
[00:28:58] That's what Walt wanted for his park.
[00:29:00] Really.
[00:29:01] I'd like my tea now.
[00:29:03] I'm always like, let's get you back into bed mom.
[00:29:07] Okay.
[00:29:08] You got out once.
[00:29:09] Let's not, you know, let's strap you in.
[00:29:12] Yeah.
[00:29:13] That's actually what I was going to point out on your
[00:29:15] outline.
[00:29:16] You said that everyone got goofier and loopier as time
[00:29:18] passed.
[00:29:19] It sounded like that's kind of one of those things.
[00:29:21] I wonder what do you attribute that to just the dopamine hit
[00:29:24] finally wore off and everyone's kind of got tired.
[00:29:27] I think so.
[00:29:29] And maybe these people are drinking a lot of these very
[00:29:32] tall sugary beverages and probably drinking adult
[00:29:35] beverages.
[00:29:36] And once, once you burn that sugar off,
[00:29:40] you crash hard.
[00:29:42] Absolutely.
[00:29:43] Everyone had these like lays over eyes by the end
[00:29:47] of the night.
[00:29:49] So much stimulation.
[00:29:51] Yeah.
[00:29:52] It's the, yeah, the adult, uh, adult Disney fan zombie
[00:29:56] apocalypse.
[00:29:57] Yes.
[00:29:58] Yes.
[00:29:59] They're all happy.
[00:30:00] Yes.
[00:30:01] Right.
[00:30:02] Right.
[00:30:03] They want to, uh, yeah, I don't know.
[00:30:04] I was going to try to make a weird zombie joke,
[00:30:06] but it wasn't going to go anywhere.
[00:30:08] Well, we're getting to your, to the drawbacks
[00:30:10] section mainly because the first one just says
[00:30:13] I'm old and tired.
[00:30:14] And I don't know if I wrote that or you wrote that.
[00:30:16] I wrote that, but I feel you.
[00:30:18] I think you can relate.
[00:30:20] Yeah.
[00:30:21] Especially with the younger kid.
[00:30:23] Oh my God.
[00:30:24] Forget about it.
[00:30:25] Yeah.
[00:30:26] It's like, I just walked up from a nap.
[00:30:27] I'm like, I think I need another nap.
[00:30:29] Yeah.
[00:30:30] I don't know what's going on.
[00:30:31] And then on day two, you know, we woke up.
[00:30:33] That was terrible.
[00:30:34] Yeah.
[00:30:35] We were already, we woke up.
[00:30:36] I stayed up.
[00:30:37] Later.
[00:30:38] I didn't go to bed until three because I was
[00:30:40] texting a friend who was definitely supposed
[00:30:42] to be asleep because she had school the next
[00:30:44] time.
[00:30:45] And you didn't do what I was doing.
[00:30:47] I don't know what she was doing.
[00:30:49] He's robbing you of prime sleeping.
[00:30:51] I ended up with like four hours of sleep.
[00:30:54] Yeah.
[00:30:55] And then counter, like counterpoint to that.
[00:30:58] It was the food and wine festival.
[00:31:00] Oh my goodness.
[00:31:01] That's terrible.
[00:31:02] We started in there.
[00:31:04] So it sounds like just that.
[00:31:06] So you went from like nobody around
[00:31:08] to everybody and then dated with human beings.
[00:31:11] Oh God.
[00:31:12] I was killed.
[00:31:13] What a culture shock.
[00:31:15] Yeah.
[00:31:16] In hell or in credit coaster was closed in credit
[00:31:19] coaster.
[00:31:20] Oh, dude.
[00:31:21] Yeah.
[00:31:22] Why am I love that?
[00:31:23] Right here.
[00:31:24] See, Iger Giveth and Iger take it away.
[00:31:27] You know, he'll, he'll, he'll come down
[00:31:30] from his mansion and bless you with a
[00:31:32] good night, but then he'll take
[00:31:34] in credit coaster away and then pour the
[00:31:36] food and wine festival all over your trip.
[00:31:38] Oh man.
[00:31:39] I don't think it's what it'll do.
[00:31:41] But I mean, so you were there all day for the next,
[00:31:44] for the God.
[00:31:45] So what was your ride comparison between going on?
[00:31:48] Yeah.
[00:31:49] Yeah.
[00:31:50] Did we even, did we even do 10?
[00:31:54] I don't think so.
[00:31:55] Cause we left early.
[00:31:56] Yeah.
[00:31:57] Oh, yeah.
[00:31:58] On the after hours event we did and I'm,
[00:32:03] I'm a little stats oriented.
[00:32:06] I apologize.
[00:32:07] I know it's not about that for everybody on the
[00:32:09] Disney Channel night.
[00:32:10] We did 20 rides and walked 12 miles.
[00:32:15] Wow.
[00:32:16] Just around Disneyland around and around.
[00:32:19] Yeah.
[00:32:20] In Disneyland, just in Disneyland, not DCA,
[00:32:23] not through the Esplanade, not that 20 rides
[00:32:27] and 12 miles.
[00:32:29] I love that.
[00:32:30] And it's amazing.
[00:32:31] That sounds like you had a fun time when
[00:32:33] you're like really walking through the queues.
[00:32:37] Actually walking and not standing.
[00:32:39] You can't.
[00:32:40] I'd never realized how long the queue line for any of those
[00:32:44] is until I have to walk through them without stopping.
[00:32:50] Yeah.
[00:32:51] You know what?
[00:32:52] One strikes me the most is Indy.
[00:32:54] I was just thinking that one.
[00:32:55] That one hides the queue very,
[00:32:57] very well because you think, oh,
[00:32:58] this you get to the safe, the safety spiel and then
[00:33:00] the rides are on the corner.
[00:33:01] You're not done.
[00:33:02] No, you're going upstairs.
[00:33:03] You're going downstairs.
[00:33:05] Yeah.
[00:33:06] That's wild.
[00:33:07] I think the start was starting to kill me by the end of
[00:33:10] the night.
[00:33:11] I love that ride, but that was a bit much.
[00:33:13] Yeah.
[00:33:14] It was like a workout.
[00:33:15] Yeah.
[00:33:16] You know, you're hitting the wall when a slow incline
[00:33:19] starts to bother you.
[00:33:20] It can't get any more gradual than this.
[00:33:25] So what's your normal?
[00:33:26] Because you were saying in an email the other day
[00:33:28] that you sort of do this or you track your rides
[00:33:32] on your trips.
[00:33:33] What's a normal day just to compare what you would
[00:33:36] normally do, how many rides and whatever compared to
[00:33:40] the Disney Channel night?
[00:33:42] I think the worst we've ever done is like 13 or
[00:33:45] something.
[00:33:46] Although this trip we probably did worse than that.
[00:33:48] Yeah.
[00:33:49] Yeah.
[00:33:50] And the best has been 20 and that's on like,
[00:33:52] that's across a 12 hour day of parking over.
[00:33:56] Oh right.
[00:33:57] Because this was only a couple of hours.
[00:33:59] Yeah.
[00:34:00] It was like eight to one.
[00:34:01] I think.
[00:34:02] Yeah.
[00:34:03] Yeah.
[00:34:04] Eight to one, five, six hours.
[00:34:05] Yeah.
[00:34:06] Wow.
[00:34:07] That's so cool though, honestly.
[00:34:10] Yeah.
[00:34:11] Wow.
[00:34:12] That's fascinating.
[00:34:13] See the bummer is this doesn't sound like they're
[00:34:16] going to do it again.
[00:34:17] I mean, maybe who knows, you know,
[00:34:19] maybe you guys got like a golden ticket.
[00:34:22] This once in a, I don't want to say once in a
[00:34:25] lifetime kind of things, but sort of feels like
[00:34:27] kind of.
[00:34:28] Yeah.
[00:34:29] I wonder what might come next.
[00:34:30] Like I hope, I hope if they don't do Disney Channel
[00:34:34] at night, night again, they do something else kind of
[00:34:37] weird because it was very niche seeming and weird
[00:34:42] and risky.
[00:34:43] And I definitely want to check out other after hours
[00:34:46] events, but, but I do definitely hope there's
[00:34:49] other kind of weird ones.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:53] Yeah.
[00:34:54] I mean the Disney Channel one seemed very just rooted
[00:34:57] in nostalgia.
[00:34:58] You know, for people who grew up, I didn't really grow up
[00:35:02] at Disney Channel kid, you know, because it was extra
[00:35:05] money.
[00:35:06] Oh yeah.
[00:35:07] And I just always wait for those free weeks, those
[00:35:10] free weeks.
[00:35:11] Oh, that was the best week ever.
[00:35:13] Even then what was even on it when you were
[00:35:15] watching it?
[00:35:16] What was on incorporated?
[00:35:18] I remember.
[00:35:19] I think kids incorporated was Disney.
[00:35:24] I could be wrong, but I think it was incorporated.
[00:35:28] And then the Mickey Mouse Club.
[00:35:31] Yeah.
[00:35:32] That's all I remember.
[00:35:34] I remember it like coming on and it's like, I don't
[00:35:37] know, I just never really into it.
[00:35:39] There was a show that was cool.
[00:35:41] There was still also too old.
[00:35:43] There was a there was a Alice in Wonderland
[00:35:48] show where that was so weird.
[00:35:50] The Mad Hatter wore skates.
[00:35:54] Like inline skates.
[00:35:57] Rollerblades.
[00:35:58] Rollerblades.
[00:35:59] Yeah.
[00:36:00] And inline skates.
[00:36:01] The, yeah, it was just a really wild show where the
[00:36:04] girl stepped through the mirror and like she was
[00:36:07] just like a teenage girl in her room and she
[00:36:09] stepped through the mirror and then like it was
[00:36:11] this live action.
[00:36:13] Didn't you show this to me?
[00:36:14] Yeah.
[00:36:15] Cause it's on Disney Plus.
[00:36:16] Oh yeah.
[00:36:17] That's right.
[00:36:18] I watched one episode and I was like, it's so bad,
[00:36:20] but I loved it for that one week.
[00:36:23] None of this, none of this, it calls to me.
[00:36:26] So that's why I would go like the Disney Channel
[00:36:28] night.
[00:36:29] I don't know.
[00:36:30] I mean who, who would, who would go?
[00:36:33] But well, I'll tell you what next time they have a
[00:36:35] weird ass one, I'm going to go.
[00:36:38] I'm going to be like, let's go.
[00:36:40] Yeah.
[00:36:41] Ears up field trip.
[00:36:42] Yeah.
[00:36:43] That's great.
[00:36:44] And again, like for the whole park to be open,
[00:36:46] I think that's, that's cool because I remember
[00:36:48] it's like we went to a couple of them.
[00:36:51] Terran, didn't we?
[00:36:52] And then like the sections of the park were closed.
[00:36:55] Yeah.
[00:36:56] I don't think that we did the proper nights.
[00:36:58] The only proper like nighttime thing that we did
[00:37:00] was the Halloween thing.
[00:37:01] And that was before they,
[00:37:03] like toon town was closed before they got big though.
[00:37:06] Like, oh, we were cool before it was big.
[00:37:09] No, I think we were dumb.
[00:37:11] Oh, nice.
[00:37:12] Before they like all we got was candy and
[00:37:14] all that was open was like Norling Square.
[00:37:16] Yeah.
[00:37:17] And like maybe something else, but like,
[00:37:19] it was smaller and it was less expensive.
[00:37:21] I think that's what I mean.
[00:37:22] That's what keeps blowing me away.
[00:37:24] That's what blows me away.
[00:37:25] The park is open the whole time.
[00:37:26] Yeah.
[00:37:27] It's super cool.
[00:37:28] Yeah.
[00:37:29] I think you guys got lucky.
[00:37:30] So what happens when it, when it's over?
[00:37:32] There's the breaks, like the record, the record.
[00:37:34] The magic is over promptly at 1 a.m.
[00:37:38] Oh, I bet.
[00:37:39] It was just gone.
[00:37:40] Yeah.
[00:37:41] Yeah.
[00:37:42] We got on pirates.
[00:37:43] It was magical all by ourselves.
[00:37:45] We walked off and it's like 104 a.m.
[00:37:47] As we're like coming around the corner,
[00:37:49] we're seeing the cast members cleaning up with garbage bags.
[00:37:53] Well, that was fast.
[00:37:55] Okay.
[00:37:56] Yeah.
[00:37:57] That's awesome.
[00:37:58] The masses of people walking out of the, come on.
[00:38:01] The masses of people walking out of the park.
[00:38:03] It felt like some sort of,
[00:38:05] like it felt like some sort of zombie apocalypse or something.
[00:38:08] Yeah.
[00:38:09] Just like, cause we looked like zombies.
[00:38:11] Yeah.
[00:38:12] I always feel for the custodial department.
[00:38:15] A night like that.
[00:38:16] Oh yeah.
[00:38:17] It's like, one o'clock.
[00:38:18] Can you guys just leave?
[00:38:19] You know, it's like being a bartender.
[00:38:21] Like I just want to close.
[00:38:22] I just, I just want to do the mochas.
[00:38:24] You know what I mean?
[00:38:25] Like get out of here.
[00:38:26] I don't want, I don't know, you know, whatever.
[00:38:28] Yeah.
[00:38:29] That sounds cool though.
[00:38:30] It really does.
[00:38:31] I appreciate you sharing your, your expertise.
[00:38:33] So what's your game plan moving forward for all this?
[00:38:36] Are you,
[00:38:37] it sounds like you're going to go back.
[00:38:38] Do you have,
[00:38:39] are you going to change things up in anticipation?
[00:38:41] Maybe of it not being so good.
[00:38:43] Or you just got to, you know, hope for the best.
[00:38:46] We,
[00:38:47] we processed and talked about it afterwards.
[00:38:51] And how could we improve upon this?
[00:38:53] We don't want to end with a bad day after like such a magical
[00:38:56] moment.
[00:38:57] And came up with the idea of going there and doing a rope
[00:39:02] drop on the first day.
[00:39:04] And yeah, leave early.
[00:39:06] And then we started to do a little bit of a,
[00:39:09] yeah, leave early and then go to this special event.
[00:39:13] Yeah.
[00:39:14] My,
[00:39:15] I had a very elaborate plan because I get to go for my 16th
[00:39:19] birthday and I want something extra.
[00:39:21] Nice.
[00:39:22] We're going to look into wait times for like,
[00:39:24] oh, you boogie bash cause I love California adventure.
[00:39:27] So whatever park we're going to for the night of event,
[00:39:31] we do rope drop at the other park.
[00:39:33] Okay.
[00:39:34] So we have a single no park conference one day at a
[00:39:37] park leave a little early so we can get to bed decent
[00:39:40] time take the next day and just chill and then go to
[00:39:43] the special event.
[00:39:44] Okay.
[00:39:45] That sounds good.
[00:39:46] I like that.
[00:39:47] Cool.
[00:39:48] That's a good plan.
[00:39:49] I like that plan because, you know,
[00:39:52] especially when,
[00:39:53] when Taren and I were going a lot,
[00:39:55] you know,
[00:39:56] there in like 2015 ish or whatever it was like,
[00:39:58] I'm just tired of the parks.
[00:40:00] You get tired of it after a while.
[00:40:01] So I think if you dose it out,
[00:40:03] I think that's the way to go.
[00:40:04] You know,
[00:40:05] you dose it out and you leave a little bit of a little bit of
[00:40:08] magic there.
[00:40:09] You don't squeeze all the magic out.
[00:40:10] Yeah.
[00:40:11] And I think that sounds like a solid plan to do that.
[00:40:13] I will say though,
[00:40:14] every single time we,
[00:40:15] we,
[00:40:16] we didn't squeeze all the magic out.
[00:40:18] We got halfway down the five and I'm like,
[00:40:20] should have just stayed another day.
[00:40:22] Yeah.
[00:40:23] What do we do?
[00:40:24] And then I would always help and go,
[00:40:26] just call your boss and say you're sick.
[00:40:28] I don't care.
[00:40:29] You know, whatever.
[00:40:30] No, I can't.
[00:40:32] All right then.
[00:40:33] What do you want from me?
[00:40:35] Well, I think it sounds great.
[00:40:36] It's not a successful trip.
[00:40:38] Disney channel, you know,
[00:40:40] theming aside, you know,
[00:40:44] but first I thought you went specifically for a Disney
[00:40:46] channel like stuff,
[00:40:47] like a nostalgia trip.
[00:40:48] And I was like,
[00:40:49] no, I'm sorry.
[00:40:50] We're looking forward to that.
[00:40:51] There was something about though,
[00:40:53] because to fit the theme,
[00:40:55] they're playing music that fits the theme.
[00:40:57] I heard the intro to Jesse over three times.
[00:41:00] Oh man.
[00:41:01] I don't want to hear it again.
[00:41:02] Yeah.
[00:41:03] I heard a lot of music for the first time.
[00:41:05] So yeah.
[00:41:06] Well, that's cool.
[00:41:08] I guess.
[00:41:09] Yeah.
[00:41:10] That does seem like a very niche thing, man.
[00:41:12] You know, it's not like sweetheart nights or.
[00:41:14] I wonder if like in 10 years,
[00:41:15] it's going to be movie themed.
[00:41:16] You know what I mean?
[00:41:17] Oh, this is the.
[00:41:19] I don't know.
[00:41:20] Cinderella night.
[00:41:21] Yeah.
[00:41:22] I guess or incanto night or something like that.
[00:41:24] I don't know.
[00:41:25] I'd go to that.
[00:41:26] Yeah.
[00:41:27] I do feel like they're like testing things out.
[00:41:29] That felt like a test for sure.
[00:41:32] I wonder if it passed.
[00:41:33] I don't know.
[00:41:34] I mean, the benchmark would be if all the tickets sold.
[00:41:37] Yeah.
[00:41:38] And then how much food and drink at, you know, at the.
[00:41:41] Well, in all the people they have to pay to be working.
[00:41:43] Yeah.
[00:41:44] That's what I mean.
[00:41:45] Right.
[00:41:46] Yeah.
[00:41:47] Yeah.
[00:41:48] If it didn't, I mean,
[00:41:49] if there was still available a few days later,
[00:41:51] that's already kind of a.
[00:41:52] Yeah.
[00:41:53] Not a good sign.
[00:41:54] Not what you'd expect.
[00:41:55] Well, it sounds great.
[00:41:56] I appreciate you guys coming on and letting us know about it.
[00:41:58] Thank you for letting us be here.
[00:42:00] And absolutely.
[00:42:01] Most people don't let us talk about Disneyland as well as me as
[00:42:05] much as I want to.
[00:42:06] So thank you.
[00:42:07] My friends appreciate you.
[00:42:10] Well, that's what we're here for.
[00:42:11] You guys want to come over and listen to my mom talk about
[00:42:13] Disneyland?
[00:42:16] My strategy.
[00:42:18] I'll tell you all about it.
[00:42:20] Print everything out on a dot matrix printer.
[00:42:23] Ream by Ream connecting.
[00:42:25] Yeah.
[00:42:27] Yeah.
[00:42:29] All right.
[00:42:30] We are going to take a quick break everyone.
[00:42:31] We're going to come back and we have some Disney news to run
[00:42:33] through.
[00:42:34] And that's it.
[00:42:35] Then we'll be at what?
[00:42:36] I have a segment.
[00:42:37] Oh yeah.
[00:42:38] Well, we talked about maybe not doing it.
[00:42:40] Oh, we had.
[00:42:41] Yes, we had with me with you.
[00:42:43] No, I didn't hear that.
[00:42:44] I'm not sharing.
[00:42:45] Well, yeah, Eric work wasn't here.
[00:42:47] But anyway, let's take a quick break.
[00:42:49] Everyone will be right back here on ears up.
[00:42:51] Don't go anywhere.
[00:42:52] Come back.
[00:42:53] Yeah.
[00:42:59] Back to ears up where the opinions never stop.
[00:43:03] Ever.
[00:43:05] All right, welcome back everybody.
[00:43:09] I said we're going to do news but Taryn basically beat me up.
[00:43:13] Whoa.
[00:43:14] She psychically berated me into doing her segment and I don't
[00:43:18] have your music Taryn.
[00:43:19] So I'll put it in.
[00:43:20] Okay.
[00:43:21] I'll put it in post but pretend this is it.
[00:43:26] Okay.
[00:43:27] That was it.
[00:43:28] All right.
[00:43:29] Did you like it?
[00:43:30] I did.
[00:43:31] Thank you.
[00:43:32] Okay.
[00:43:33] So today I'm going to talk about a lesser known character.
[00:43:38] And maybe that's not fair to say it's a very well known character.
[00:43:42] I think we just don't know a whole lot about this character.
[00:43:45] And this is Luxo junior.
[00:43:47] Oh, Luxo never heard of it.
[00:43:50] You will have.
[00:43:51] Yeah.
[00:43:52] So aside from the lamp that Steve Carell was referring to an
[00:43:57] anchor man when he famously stated, I love lamp.
[00:44:01] Luxo junior is probably the most famous and most recognizable
[00:44:05] lamp in modern history.
[00:44:07] It's the official mascot of Pixar studios along with its friend
[00:44:11] the ball.
[00:44:12] And it's become part of the opening for every single Pixar
[00:44:16] film.
[00:44:17] Now Luxo junior is a squeaky and curious little desk lamp with
[00:44:23] big feelings and a playful attitude.
[00:44:26] It's gray with a bright white bulb and articulating arm that
[00:44:30] adjusts both horizontally and vertically.
[00:44:33] And while quite similar in its overall makeup, Luxo junior is a
[00:44:38] significantly smaller version of the larger Luxo senior who is
[00:44:43] also a squeaky desk lamp with an adjustable articulating arm.
[00:44:47] Well, it's genetic.
[00:44:48] It's handed down.
[00:44:49] Multiple generations.
[00:44:50] Yeah.
[00:44:51] Yeah.
[00:44:52] You think it would skip a generation but it doesn't.
[00:44:54] The squeak stays.
[00:44:55] Luxo junior and senior were both seen for the first time when the
[00:44:59] short film Luxo junior debuted in 1986.
[00:45:03] Oh, so we got a nepo baby.
[00:45:05] Okay.
[00:45:06] Got it.
[00:45:07] SIGGRAPH which is an annual computer graphics conference.
[00:45:11] And the film starts with a Luxo senior kicking a ball out of
[00:45:15] the frame that bounced over to him.
[00:45:17] He does this a couple of times and then Luxo junior appears
[00:45:21] and playfully begins to jump on top of the ball.
[00:45:24] Unfortunately, the little lamp pops the ball and that makes
[00:45:27] him sad.
[00:45:28] That makes it sad.
[00:45:30] After a brief moment of grief, Luxo junior regains its childlike
[00:45:34] exuberance hops off screen and happily returns with a much
[00:45:37] bigger and much bouncier ball to which Luxo senior appears
[00:45:42] surprised and joyful if not a little perplexed at both the
[00:45:46] resilience and resourcefulness of Luxo junior.
[00:45:49] The lamps don't have like faces.
[00:45:51] Nope.
[00:45:52] They're just lamps perplexed.
[00:45:54] Have you never seen it?
[00:45:55] No, I don't know what you're talking about.
[00:45:57] Oh my goodness.
[00:45:58] Sorry.
[00:45:59] I missed SIGGRAPH that day.
[00:46:01] Yes.
[00:46:02] Well, it was so Luxo junior is you may be wondering why it's
[00:46:06] interesting.
[00:46:07] You may be wondering why that I don't know what you're
[00:46:11] doing listening to this show.
[00:46:13] So why is this interesting?
[00:46:14] It's been 50 minutes.
[00:46:15] Why am I still listening?
[00:46:17] This is how I categorize this segment.
[00:46:19] So Luxo junior as a character is interesting because at the
[00:46:23] time it was conceived, it was one of the most complicated
[00:46:27] characters to ever be animated.
[00:46:29] John Lasseter wrote and directed the film.
[00:46:32] Luxo junior was animated by John Lasseter himself and Ed
[00:46:36] Katmuell after they had both left Lucasfilm computer
[00:46:40] division.
[00:46:41] Now this two minute short films animation took inspiration
[00:46:45] from the classic animation principles popularized by the
[00:46:49] Waltz nine old men, which was kind of bringing an emotional
[00:46:52] life to otherwise inanimate objects.
[00:46:56] The difference however was that this animation was
[00:46:59] completed using only computer graphics and the short
[00:47:03] film took them four and a half months to complete and it's
[00:47:06] rumored that they worked tirelessly to complete it
[00:47:09] even bringing sleeping bags to the office.
[00:47:11] Oh sure.
[00:47:12] That's the story I would tell to you.
[00:47:14] I worked really hard on this.
[00:47:16] I worked incredibly harder than you would ever know.
[00:47:20] Also, I'm just realizing how I'm I shouldn't say this,
[00:47:25] but how creepy it is that John Lasseter was bringing
[00:47:28] sleeping bags to the office.
[00:47:30] I think I think you're reaching but that's all right.
[00:47:33] So Luxo junior received an Academy Award nomination in
[00:47:37] 1987 for best animated short film.
[00:47:41] There were three films in this category, but the film lost
[00:47:44] to a short called Greek tragedy.
[00:47:47] Hey, oh, hey.
[00:47:52] And even though it didn't keep a good film down, you know what
[00:47:55] I mean?
[00:47:56] Even though it didn't get the gold statue, it will always
[00:47:59] go down as the very first CGI film nominated for an
[00:48:02] Academy Award.
[00:48:04] Yeah.
[00:48:05] In 1999, the short was reissued as a short film
[00:48:08] shown before the screenings of Toy Story 2 in theater.
[00:48:12] Do you never saw, you never saw Toy Story 2 in theaters?
[00:48:15] I guess not.
[00:48:16] Oh, that's how I knew of this.
[00:48:19] Yeah.
[00:48:20] In 2014, the film was selected for the preservation
[00:48:23] for preservation by the National Film Registry.
[00:48:26] And oddly, Disney plus states that the release of the
[00:48:29] movie is 1999, not 1986, which is odd.
[00:48:35] So where else have you seen Luxo Junior?
[00:48:38] A cordless Luxo Junior is seen in the opening logo of every
[00:48:42] single Pixar film standing in for the eye.
[00:48:45] So you have seen that before.
[00:48:48] Yes, I mean, I know it's the lamp.
[00:48:50] Yeah.
[00:48:51] Yeah.
[00:48:52] Luxo Junior is what did it sound like?
[00:48:55] Like a bat.
[00:48:57] Okay.
[00:48:58] Got it.
[00:48:59] Luxo Junior is also at the end of Wally where he
[00:49:02] meets that lovable trash compactor.
[00:49:05] Luxo Junior's ball has appeared somewhere in every
[00:49:08] single Pixar movie.
[00:49:09] Easy.
[00:49:10] Easy.
[00:49:11] In Toy Story 2, Luxo Junior can be seen on TV when Ham is
[00:49:17] rapidly flicking through TV channels.
[00:49:21] And this is interesting.
[00:49:23] There was an audio animatronic version of Luxo Junior at
[00:49:26] Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
[00:49:28] But it was removed in April 2010.
[00:49:31] And this may have been due to a 2009 lawsuit brought about
[00:49:35] by Norwegian lamp company Luxo AS, who sued Disney and
[00:49:40] Pixar for trademark infringement.
[00:49:42] I vaguely remember this.
[00:49:44] When Disney started selling a limited edition Luxo
[00:49:47] Junior desk lamp.
[00:49:48] Yeah.
[00:49:49] Now the parties ended up reaching an amicable settlement
[00:49:51] in November 2009, but the timing seems a little
[00:49:54] weird so it's possible that those are related.
[00:49:56] Yeah.
[00:49:57] And why it left the park.
[00:49:59] I don't know.
[00:50:00] Let's get it started.
[00:50:01] Yeah.
[00:50:02] Let's go.
[00:50:03] In 1991, this is the last place that you may have seen
[00:50:07] Luxo.
[00:50:08] Yeah.
[00:50:09] In 1991, a series of four shorts were created featuring
[00:50:12] Luxo Junior and Luxo Senior for and aired on Sesame
[00:50:15] Street.
[00:50:16] Okay.
[00:50:17] Which I thought was pretty cool.
[00:50:19] Cute.
[00:50:20] Now who's behind the character?
[00:50:22] Luxo Junior and Senior.
[00:50:24] They don't have voices.
[00:50:25] However, Luxo Junior's composition is said to be
[00:50:28] based on a former Pixar employee Tom Porter's infant son.
[00:50:33] When Porter brought his son to work one day, Lasseter was
[00:50:36] playing with the baby and was fascinated by how huge the
[00:50:39] baby's head was compared to its body.
[00:50:42] Those are babies, John.
[00:50:44] All babies just are like this.
[00:50:46] Do all babies look like lamps?
[00:50:48] Yeah.
[00:50:49] I could see that.
[00:50:50] Like you're sitting there and basically he began to
[00:50:52] imagine what a small lamp might look like with those
[00:50:54] types of proportions.
[00:50:56] Maybe he thought it was a lamp.
[00:50:58] Maybe.
[00:50:59] I mean, I don't know the guy.
[00:51:01] Yeah.
[00:51:02] With articulating arm when your son is weird.
[00:51:05] Also, while there are no voice voices in the film, there
[00:51:09] are three composed pieces of music in the two minute
[00:51:12] short composed by David Lindup, Brian Bennett and
[00:51:15] Carlton Hall.
[00:51:16] Now in conclusion, if you're like me and have often
[00:51:20] wondered if the inanimate objects in your life have
[00:51:25] been broken, you know, like the things like does my
[00:51:28] pillow's bedside feel jealous of the head side?
[00:51:31] If I don't flip it often or does the oven feel down if I
[00:51:34] use the air fryer two nights in a row.
[00:51:36] That sort of thing.
[00:51:38] Then you will certainly hold a small piece of your heart
[00:51:43] for this adorable little lamp.
[00:51:45] I don't want to.
[00:51:47] Must.
[00:51:48] Oh.
[00:51:49] Did.
[00:51:51] Do any of you remember there was an IKEA commercial
[00:51:56] where do you remember the lamp IKEA commercial?
[00:51:59] Mm hmm.
[00:52:00] Okay, I do.
[00:52:01] Then I don't need to tell anybody about it.
[00:52:03] That's the.
[00:52:04] Well, you do.
[00:52:05] Go on.
[00:52:06] Okay, fine.
[00:52:07] It was one of my favorites because yes, I too have
[00:52:10] have imbued feelings onto inanimate objects for
[00:52:13] inappropriate reasons like.
[00:52:15] Yeah, but but we've we've had this.
[00:52:19] This.
[00:52:20] Stick.
[00:52:22] Where our entire our entire hiking trip.
[00:52:25] What?
[00:52:26] But it's part of our family now.
[00:52:28] Sort of.
[00:52:29] Yeah, yeah.
[00:52:30] It would be sad.
[00:52:31] Yeah, it's like in Goonies you live with me now.
[00:52:35] It's like everything you see.
[00:52:37] Yeah.
[00:52:38] Yeah.
[00:52:39] It was a great commercial because this this woman.
[00:52:41] Goes and buys a new lamp at IKEA and throws her lamp
[00:52:45] her old lamp out in the trash.
[00:52:47] And it's like pouring rain and the lamp is on
[00:52:49] the side of the road and it's sitting there and they're playing
[00:52:52] they're playing sad music.
[00:52:53] And then this Swedish guy steps up and says,
[00:52:56] perhaps you feel sorry for the lamp, but do not feel
[00:52:59] sorry for the lamp.
[00:53:00] It is just an inanimate object and it has no feelings
[00:53:03] and the new lamp is much better.
[00:53:08] That was a really good commercial.
[00:53:12] Lamps are important.
[00:53:13] Speaking.
[00:53:14] I don't know.
[00:53:15] Good.
[00:53:16] There's a lot of lamps to think about right now.
[00:53:19] Oh my God, you're spiraling.
[00:53:21] Are you?
[00:53:22] Oh my God.
[00:53:24] Just thinking about it.
[00:53:25] Next episode, let me get to work on it now.
[00:53:27] Yeah.
[00:53:28] Speaking of good commercials.
[00:53:31] Summer is just around the corner and our friends at the
[00:53:34] 21st Amendment Brewery are welcoming the warmer weather
[00:53:37] with open arms and a refreshing favorite,
[00:53:39] Hell or High Watermelon Wheat.
[00:53:42] Picture this.
[00:53:43] A sunny day, the smell of barbecue in the air and a cold,
[00:53:46] crisp Hell or High Watermelon in your hand.
[00:53:49] It's the ultimate summer time companion.
[00:53:51] Perfect for those unforgettable gatherings with friends
[00:53:54] and family.
[00:53:55] But what makes Hell or High Watermelon so special?
[00:53:58] It's not just its bright straw color or tight white
[00:54:01] bubbles.
[00:54:02] No, it's the subtle blend of wheat beer with a hint
[00:54:04] of sweet biscuit and a kiss of juicy watermelon that
[00:54:07] sets it apart from the rest.
[00:54:09] With its refreshing flavor and delightful light fruit
[00:54:11] notes, Hell or High Watermelon is bound to become your
[00:54:14] go-to summer beer.
[00:54:15] And at just 4.9% ABV, you can enjoy it all day long
[00:54:19] without missing a beat.
[00:54:23] So when you're looking for that perfect beverage to
[00:54:25] compliment those sunny days and backyard barbecues,
[00:54:27] look no further than Hell or High Watermelon Wheat.
[00:54:30] Find it wherever great craft beer is sold and make
[00:54:33] this summer one to remember.
[00:54:36] Yeah, do that.
[00:54:38] I feel like I need to clap after that.
[00:54:41] March in the past, present and future with all the news
[00:54:45] that's fit to cover.
[00:54:46] It's the Years of Disney News.
[00:54:49] Look man, I'm never going to say don't applaud.
[00:54:53] Let's start with some lighthearted humor.
[00:54:55] What do you think?
[00:54:56] Instead of the very, you know...
[00:54:59] Dense humor?
[00:55:00] Philosophically dense topic of what lamps would feel
[00:55:05] if they could feel things.
[00:55:08] That is an important topic though.
[00:55:10] Yeah.
[00:55:11] A California dad has recalled the day his 2-year-old son
[00:55:15] began repeatedly shouting a quote very inappropriate F word
[00:55:20] during a trip to Disneyland.
[00:55:22] Carrie, I think this goes back to your point of
[00:55:25] it's good that there were no little kids to curse at you
[00:55:29] apparently at Disneyland.
[00:55:32] The next sentence is great.
[00:55:33] Bad language is all around us in modern society.
[00:55:36] And while parents can lead by example, the reality is that
[00:55:40] by and large they can't prevent their children from
[00:55:43] eventually being exposed to it.
[00:55:46] I actually curse at my child.
[00:55:48] Literally true.
[00:55:50] Yeah.
[00:55:51] My child flips me off.
[00:55:53] Says F you dad.
[00:55:55] I go F you Alice.
[00:55:57] Let me laugh.
[00:55:59] Basically this guy has a twins and one of them was saying the F word.
[00:56:05] That's what he thought in Disneyland.
[00:56:07] Back in March, Brian was visiting Disneyland with his son Brecken.
[00:56:13] Brecken?
[00:56:14] Brecken.
[00:56:15] Brecken.
[00:56:16] Brecken.
[00:56:17] Brecken.
[00:56:18] Brecken.
[00:56:19] Brecken.
[00:56:20] Brecken.
[00:56:21] Brecken.
[00:56:22] Brecken.
[00:56:23] Brecken.
[00:56:24] Brecken.
[00:56:25] Brecken.
[00:56:26] Brecken.
[00:56:27] Brecken.
[00:56:28] Brecken.
[00:56:29] Brecken.
[00:56:30] Brecken.
[00:56:31] Brecken moved out of jail.
[00:56:33] Brecken moved out what tried to run on my car and we spoke
[00:56:35] about an accident that Donica Reed in the comments section
[00:56:38] yolked.
[00:56:39] Rick Louisiana.
[00:56:40] Frank Collins.
[00:56:41] Rita Limon.
[00:56:42] Dray Library.
[00:56:43] Ahhhhh.
[00:56:50] Brecken in one half.
[00:56:51] Roger Hasses the Great.
[00:56:53] Brian said he and his husband Chris have always made a point to avoid using bad language around Brecken and his twin sister London.
[00:57:01] Brecken and London.
[00:57:03] Oh, I mean, look, these are choices.
[00:57:06] But also this is one of the reasons why like I don't avoid using bad language around Alice.
[00:57:12] Like she knows these are at home words.
[00:57:14] And I feel like if you take the sting out of her, if you take the inconsistency, not inconsistency, but if you take the intrigue out, it's just another word.
[00:57:23] Yeah.
[00:57:24] I don't do that to every word. Just everybody knows them.
[00:57:26] But Brecken wasn't actually trying to say the word quote his favorite type of animal at the moment is frog.
[00:57:34] But if for some reason he won't say the word frog, it has to be frogger.
[00:57:38] So he has to say, oh, there's a frogger.
[00:57:42] I like a frogger or whatever.
[00:57:44] Okay.
[00:57:45] You know what I mean?
[00:57:46] Unfortunately, his G sounds a lot like CK and his R isn't very noticeable.
[00:57:53] So it sounds like he's just saying, I think F-T-C-K-E-R.
[00:57:56] Yeah.
[00:57:57] Yeah.
[00:57:58] And so he's like running around Disneyland saying that and everyone's like freaking out or whatever.
[00:58:02] I don't know.
[00:58:03] I thought it was pretty funny.
[00:58:04] That is funny.
[00:58:05] But also is that newsworthy?
[00:58:06] It's Newsweek.
[00:58:07] This is what I'm saying.
[00:58:09] Like people mine Reddit for stories.
[00:58:12] This was on TikTok.
[00:58:14] Okay.
[00:58:15] It's the new thing to mine for stories.
[00:58:16] I just thought it was a cute story.
[00:58:17] I mean, that's that made it far enough.
[00:58:20] Yeah.
[00:58:21] What are you going to do?
[00:58:22] It's a slow Newsweek.
[00:58:23] Next step.
[00:58:24] Nothing else is going on in the country.
[00:58:25] No.
[00:58:26] Yeah.
[00:58:27] Here's a very brief thing.
[00:58:29] It's not really a story.
[00:58:30] It's more of a photo that nobody can see, but apparently in Hong Kong and I want to say
[00:58:35] Tokyo, but maybe just Hong Kong, they have these basically customizable headbands and
[00:58:42] they're coming to the parks.
[00:58:44] They're coming to Disneyland this spring actually where it's basically just like
[00:58:49] a generic headband, but they have different like plushies for the ears.
[00:58:55] And there's a Velcro strap underneath so you can like put one here and one here.
[00:59:01] So you can do Chip and Donald or whatever.
[00:59:05] And it's very, very basic.
[00:59:07] And, but it looks cute enough.
[00:59:09] So that's coming.
[00:59:10] So if you're into headband stuff, but there's no real like decoration.
[00:59:13] There's a lot of people like Christina in our chat does the fancy headbands or
[00:59:17] what?
[00:59:18] It's not that detail.
[00:59:19] It's literally just two plushies Velcro on your head.
[00:59:22] Actually, you can do three.
[00:59:24] Oh, if you want, I mean, I guess you can do as many as you want, but that's coming.
[00:59:29] Okay.
[00:59:30] Creature on headbands and you can buy those.
[00:59:32] They'll be available.
[00:59:33] This always makes me laugh at Bing Bongs sweet stuff.
[00:59:37] Yes.
[00:59:38] Which kind of sounds, I don't know.
[00:59:40] It just sounds like like a strip club out of GTA.
[00:59:43] It just does.
[00:59:44] I don't know why the headbands are available at the
[00:59:46] The headbands are available at the candy store.
[00:59:49] Candy shop.
[00:59:50] Yeah.
[00:59:51] Meep meep meep.
[00:59:53] Yep.
[00:59:54] Sure are, buddy.
[00:59:55] They sure are.
[00:59:56] We talked, I think of the last show about Disneyland's
[00:59:59] Utopia going electric, but at the time there was no timeline.
[01:00:03] Oh, they've come out recently and said a 2026.
[01:00:07] So in like two years, they're going to be gone.
[01:00:10] They're going to be electric cars.
[01:00:12] I don't really think they know how they're going to sound yet,
[01:00:17] but there was a lot of backstory about the upgrades and why
[01:00:22] they're happening.
[01:00:23] You know what I mean?
[01:00:24] It's not necessarily just that Disneyland decided, oh, we're
[01:00:26] doing this thing.
[01:00:29] Disneyland, the Disneyland resort, they have an ultimate goal
[01:00:32] of net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
[01:00:35] According to the environmental protection agency, a typical
[01:00:38] vehicle emits 4.6 metric tons of just carbon dioxide annually
[01:00:43] mixing in gasoline produced methane and nitrous oxide.
[01:00:46] The continuous use of utopia's cars for the past few decades
[01:00:49] amounts to a high level of greenhouse gas emissions.
[01:00:52] Oh, Disney's commitment to environmental sustainability is
[01:00:55] a demonstration of the changes necessary to tackle this
[01:00:58] intimate global threat.
[01:01:00] I would say it's not intimate imminent.
[01:01:03] It's been here for a while.
[01:01:05] Carrie, when you guys were at the Disney Channel night, was
[01:01:09] utopia running?
[01:01:10] It certainly was in all its stinky glory.
[01:01:13] How many times did you go on it?
[01:01:15] Five, six times?
[01:01:16] Zero.
[01:01:17] Oh man.
[01:01:19] Apparently there have been investigations with the California
[01:01:23] Air Resources Board for air quality testing for utopia.
[01:01:29] And these people were complaining about the negative
[01:01:32] environmental impact of utopia and whatever, but the regulations
[01:01:36] were tying everything up.
[01:01:38] Apparently the amusement park is private property and visitors
[01:01:41] can easily take the necessary precautions not to go near
[01:01:44] certain rides.
[01:01:45] So they're like, look, people don't have to go here if they
[01:01:48] don't want to.
[01:01:49] It is a corner of Tomorrowland that you could easily not
[01:01:53] walk toward.
[01:01:54] Yeah, you could never go there again.
[01:01:57] Right.
[01:01:58] In its initial efforts to offset carbon emissions, Disney
[01:02:01] spent over $15.5 million in carbon offsetting schemes related
[01:02:06] to deforestation and reducing industrial gases.
[01:02:09] While the company claims the use of verified offsetting
[01:02:12] projects, most of them are not directly eliminating greenhouse
[01:02:15] gas emissions to combat Disney's pollution.
[01:02:18] Several companies have turned to offsetting projects as a
[01:02:21] way to continue unstable business operations without facing
[01:02:24] consequences.
[01:02:27] Yeah, which I never really understood.
[01:02:29] You should buy carbon offset credits like Al Gore was big in
[01:02:32] offset credits.
[01:02:33] And then people were like, well, you have a company that sells
[01:02:36] these.
[01:02:37] Well, yeah, but it's just still good.
[01:02:39] Yeah, but still do it.
[01:02:40] Yeah, you can still pollute.
[01:02:41] Just pay more for it.
[01:02:43] Just pay more for it.
[01:02:44] It's fine.
[01:02:45] But apparently Disneyland is like, yeah, that's probably not
[01:02:47] going to be great.
[01:02:49] So anyway, I thought there was a little more interesting
[01:02:51] backstory.
[01:02:52] So they're moving a little bit fast and apparently they've
[01:02:54] tried to get sued over the past.
[01:02:56] Hmm.
[01:02:57] A couple of things.
[01:02:58] Cool.
[01:02:59] Yeah, let's see.
[01:03:00] Let's go to a little bit of what's going on in the parks right
[01:03:03] now.
[01:03:04] Disneyland Resorts picks our fast begins this week.
[01:03:07] It's actually already happening, I think right now, but
[01:03:09] some fans aren't thrilled about the celebration.
[01:03:12] If you could imagine.
[01:03:13] Okay.
[01:03:14] Imagine a Disney fan, Eric, not enjoying a thing.
[01:03:17] I'm trying.
[01:03:18] Yeah.
[01:03:19] Why are you looking at my picture?
[01:03:22] Well, because it's it's the biggest one that I have mounted
[01:03:25] right above the wall is paint as a mural of you.
[01:03:28] Oh yeah.
[01:03:29] Yeah, you're me, but, but looking like Shrek.
[01:03:32] Yeah.
[01:03:33] Yeah.
[01:03:34] Or donkey.
[01:03:35] Maybe I don't know.
[01:03:37] Anyway, apparently people on the, I'm going to summarize
[01:03:40] this story because it's not that interesting, but I do
[01:03:42] think it's funny that I'm not the only one complaining
[01:03:44] about anything.
[01:03:45] People are going like, yeah, is there even a Pixar movie
[01:03:48] out right now?
[01:03:50] Like it's hard to really get excited about Pixar fast when
[01:03:53] there's just nothing really happening.
[01:03:55] I mean, never any good movies before ever, right?
[01:03:58] Right.
[01:03:59] Well, that one was good actually that I said I was going
[01:04:01] to hate and I was really mad about it.
[01:04:03] The fire and water one.
[01:04:05] Elemental.
[01:04:06] Elemental.
[01:04:07] Yeah, I actually liked it.
[01:04:08] Okay.
[01:04:09] I did watch it and I liked it.
[01:04:11] Is there even a Pixar movie out in theaters right now
[01:04:13] that we are doing this whole ass festival?
[01:04:15] Okay.
[01:04:17] Okay.
[01:04:18] I mean,
[01:04:19] and then someone says the real reason Pixar fast is
[01:04:22] disappointing isn't the decorations.
[01:04:24] It's the fact that there's no meat to the festival.
[01:04:26] It's entertainment cutbacks disguised as special events.
[01:04:30] Wow.
[01:04:31] Have you been to Epcot lately?
[01:04:33] Yeah.
[01:04:34] Well, yeah, right.
[01:04:36] I guess it's the decorations are weird.
[01:04:38] There is a story here I was going to read,
[01:04:40] but it sort of blends in right now.
[01:04:42] They have a basically a Pixar.
[01:04:47] Tower.
[01:04:48] I forget what it's called,
[01:04:49] but it's a their tribute to the tower of the four winds that
[01:04:53] Rolly crump did for the small world attraction at the New York
[01:04:56] World's Fair and I saw it and I was like,
[01:04:58] is this supposed to be the tower of the four winds?
[01:05:00] I don't know.
[01:05:01] And it just looks like a bunch of Pixar things glued on an arch.
[01:05:05] It doesn't look anything really like it.
[01:05:07] And I feel like if you're going to pay tribute
[01:05:10] to something like as legendary as this kinetic sculpture,
[01:05:15] at least do that.
[01:05:17] But this just doesn't, I don't know.
[01:05:19] It doesn't really look great.
[01:05:21] That's all.
[01:05:23] Like I said, it's not a whole lot of good things on that,
[01:05:28] but we're going to keep rolling.
[01:05:31] So we're talking about Disneyland forward.
[01:05:33] And I believe on the last show we talked briefly
[01:05:35] about Avatar land potentially coming.
[01:05:37] Yes.
[01:05:38] Now there's another rumor about an incanto themed land
[01:05:44] coming to Disneyland forward and I'm not upset about it.
[01:05:47] It would be very pretty, but I feel like it's not a big enough
[01:05:50] movie for a whole land while they're doing to,
[01:05:53] I mean, really a whole land.
[01:05:55] I think what these are going to do and what we really should
[01:05:57] do is get off our back sides, Taryn and do a what we would
[01:06:02] an armchair, imagineering of what we would want to see
[01:06:05] Disneyland forward because I think the way the parks are
[01:06:09] set now, we're never going to get a land as big as what we
[01:06:13] have like the New Orleans square or whatever.
[01:06:15] Even though it's relatively small.
[01:06:17] I think these are going to be small little land.
[01:06:19] So you can do like a casita and you know,
[01:06:22] like a town square thing.
[01:06:23] And that's kind of like, you don't really need a whole lot.
[01:06:26] But you need enough to want to pay to go in.
[01:06:29] Like I'm so, I'm so curious how this is going to,
[01:06:32] to pan out.
[01:06:34] I feel like it's going to be a third gate,
[01:06:37] but it's going to be a lot of smaller little stuff to do.
[01:06:41] Kind of like Super Mario world or whatever a universal.
[01:06:45] I've seen commercials for that.
[01:06:46] It's like, it's very tiny.
[01:06:48] Yeah, there's not a lot like that,
[01:06:50] but it's still really well done and people like it.
[01:06:53] Yeah.
[01:06:54] So I think you could do,
[01:06:55] and I think you could probably do a lot more with a
[01:06:58] smaller footprint honestly,
[01:07:00] because you don't have to flesh it out.
[01:07:01] You don't have to, you know,
[01:07:02] you can do like the house.
[01:07:04] That's either a ride or a walkthrough thing,
[01:07:06] like a, like a Donald Duck's house or a goofy house or something
[01:07:09] like that in toon town.
[01:07:10] People would be fine.
[01:07:11] That's fine.
[01:07:12] I don't know.
[01:07:13] I'm okay with it.
[01:07:15] I don't know.
[01:07:16] I'm on the fence.
[01:07:17] I'm on the fence because what the way that you just described
[01:07:20] that to me sounds like those pop ups where like you go sit
[01:07:23] on the friend's couch and take pictures for Instagram.
[01:07:25] Like that's what it kind of sounds like.
[01:07:27] And I'm like, why would I want to pay to,
[01:07:29] but not that that's what they're doing,
[01:07:31] but it's just,
[01:07:32] just seems so small.
[01:07:34] I'm just really curious.
[01:07:36] Here's a quote from tomorrow.
[01:07:38] He says,
[01:07:39] we will have enough room to build the equivalent of another
[01:07:42] Disneyland park.
[01:07:43] And so then you start to think about,
[01:07:45] well, what can we do here?
[01:07:46] We haven't told anything.
[01:07:47] Any stories are Wakanda.
[01:07:49] We haven't told any stories on frozen.
[01:07:52] Wakanda would be cool and frozen.
[01:07:54] I'm surprised that frozen hasn't come up yet.
[01:07:56] They have they,
[01:07:57] they got rid of mouse storm or mouse storm or whatever.
[01:08:00] That's over there.
[01:08:01] Yeah, yeah, but still, I don't know.
[01:08:03] Frozen here.
[01:08:04] You think about franchises like Coco and incanto.
[01:08:07] We almost have an endless stream of stories that we can tell
[01:08:10] almost.
[01:08:11] We almost have almost, I don't know,
[01:08:14] but for some reason we keep telling the same ones over
[01:08:16] and over again.
[01:08:17] We're not actually writing any new story.
[01:08:19] It's just the same things over and over again.
[01:08:21] Anyway, incanto.
[01:08:23] What do you think Eric?
[01:08:25] Hey, yeah.
[01:08:27] I mean there's a lot of potential on they've been
[01:08:29] talking about doing the same at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
[01:08:33] East coast as part of their like,
[01:08:36] let's let's rip out the.
[01:08:40] The dinosaur land USA area and put in something tropical
[01:08:45] and then making dinosaur into an Indiana Jones ride.
[01:08:49] Like really central America is pretty central
[01:08:52] and South America are pretty underrepresented in all
[01:08:54] of the parks.
[01:08:56] Epcot has Mexico.
[01:08:59] That's about it.
[01:09:01] So like with all these recent films, why not?
[01:09:04] Why not find some way to fit it in and the space constraint
[01:09:10] in Disneyland is what's interesting.
[01:09:14] They keep saying, well, we've got way more space
[01:09:16] than you than you think we have.
[01:09:17] Yeah, but we have to get to it.
[01:09:19] It has to be like it's it's.
[01:09:22] We still have to have a place to sleep at the
[01:09:25] end of the night.
[01:09:26] Like yeah, right?
[01:09:28] They they're not building a lot more hotels.
[01:09:31] Right.
[01:09:32] And that was part of the old Eastern expansion project
[01:09:36] where they were going to put in a fourth Disney hotel.
[01:09:40] That obviously didn't work, but.
[01:09:44] Yeah, I guess Disneyland can kind of trade on like
[01:09:47] there are plenty of hotels in the area and we can
[01:09:49] have some more people here.
[01:09:51] Like going over to the Toy Story lot is just such
[01:09:54] an interesting concept to me because how do you get
[01:09:57] there? It's part of the charm of Disneyland is just
[01:10:00] walking across the Esplanade between the two parks.
[01:10:03] Absolutely.
[01:10:04] And at Walt Disney World, you can't do that, but you
[01:10:07] also have you don't you don't have like a CVS in
[01:10:11] between you and the other.
[01:10:13] Yeah.
[01:10:14] Yeah, that's true.
[01:10:15] You have woods, you have forest, you have a road.
[01:10:20] Gators.
[01:10:21] You have gators that they inspire you to run
[01:10:24] faster to the next.
[01:10:26] So I've thought about this and I think it's going to be a bridge.
[01:10:30] I think there's going to be a bridge over Catella.
[01:10:33] Yeah.
[01:10:34] To connect the Esplanade to the new park.
[01:10:37] That's my that's my guess.
[01:10:38] I'm stating it.
[01:10:40] Yes, you sure are.
[01:10:42] I love about you.
[01:10:43] You're stating your things.
[01:10:45] Carrie, have you ever been to Disney World?
[01:10:47] I have actually.
[01:10:48] I found it too big, overwhelming and hard to get from
[01:10:52] place to place.
[01:10:53] Yeah, yeah, especially coming from Disneyland.
[01:10:56] It's very cumbersome.
[01:10:58] It's a lot.
[01:10:59] And yeah, I guess I was thinking about what Eric was
[01:11:01] saying about like, you just walk across the Esplanade.
[01:11:04] There's charm to it.
[01:11:06] There's a thing, but there's nothing charming about about
[01:11:09] moving parks.
[01:11:10] Yeah.
[01:11:11] You never lose the vibe when you walk across the Esplanade,
[01:11:14] but when you have to get into a tram or a bus or
[01:11:18] whatever, it's like, yeah.
[01:11:22] It breaks.
[01:11:23] Yeah, it breaks the flow.
[01:11:24] Kind of does.
[01:11:25] Yeah.
[01:11:26] Kind of does.
[01:11:27] That's all the stories I got.
[01:11:28] Oh yeah.
[01:11:29] Sorry.
[01:11:30] What were you saying?
[01:11:31] I said, unless you're taking the Skyliner.
[01:11:32] Oh, well, yeah, that's true.
[01:11:33] Wait, what?
[01:11:34] But yeah, I mean, having just been there this last
[01:11:37] weekend with David from puny pod.
[01:11:40] He's never been he and his kids have never been to
[01:11:44] Walt Disney World.
[01:11:45] So we're there for the race.
[01:11:47] That's fun.
[01:11:48] I mean, I think it was a really interesting and
[01:11:52] challenging experience working with people that have
[01:11:55] never been there.
[01:11:57] Like their lifetime Disneylanders, they go multiple
[01:12:00] times per year.
[01:12:01] David and his family.
[01:12:03] And it was, it was fun, but it was also a little
[01:12:07] stressful.
[01:12:08] Like, oh gosh, what do I, what do I do?
[01:12:10] How do I, how do you're like tour guide and
[01:12:13] everything?
[01:12:14] How do I teach them?
[01:12:15] Yeah.
[01:12:16] This is, because I was there with Mike from
[01:12:18] concierge and he and I have been going to Walt
[01:12:20] Disney World for decades.
[01:12:22] Sure.
[01:12:23] Yeah.
[01:12:24] And Disneyland is the foreign thing to us.
[01:12:26] And I've kind of had to learn that.
[01:12:28] I'm like, oh wait, you can just walk across.
[01:12:30] It's, it's get there.
[01:12:32] It's so easy for you guys.
[01:12:34] At 45.
[01:12:36] But yeah, like everywhere we went, it was,
[01:12:41] it was jaw dropping for them.
[01:12:43] And I loved, we'll have an episode of the
[01:12:46] Supreme Resort about it.
[01:12:47] We'll have, we'll have David on to talk about it.
[01:12:50] Cause it was just, it was, it was just wild and nice.
[01:12:54] I did see your, your Instagram post where he
[01:12:58] seemed annoyed with the castle that it was too
[01:13:04] big.
[01:13:05] Yeah.
[01:13:06] What is it doing there?
[01:13:07] Dan said, I need to see David's reaction to
[01:13:10] the castle.
[01:13:11] So David was playing it up a little bit, but,
[01:13:13] but yeah, like it's a, it's a big deal and,
[01:13:16] and adding in a layer of complexity to Disneyland
[01:13:19] that isn't this charming just, just walk there
[01:13:23] aesthetic, walking over a bridge.
[01:13:25] Okay.
[01:13:26] I guess you kind of do that with, with the
[01:13:28] parking structures if you're going to park there.
[01:13:30] I mean, I, I granted that's, that's a good
[01:13:33] ways away and you still might have to take a
[01:13:35] tram up to Disneyland and DCA, but it's
[01:13:40] all really close and tight.
[01:13:42] Yeah.
[01:13:43] You can't be immersed all the time.
[01:13:45] There's got to be a point where it breaks, you
[01:13:47] know, right?
[01:13:48] But what are you going to do?
[01:13:49] All right.
[01:13:50] That's it.
[01:13:51] We're done.
[01:13:52] We're getting out of here.
[01:13:53] Okay.
[01:13:54] What do you think of that?
[01:13:55] I think it's great.
[01:13:56] Where's my music?
[01:13:57] It was so nice to have another,
[01:13:58] another female voice.
[01:14:00] Oh yeah.
[01:14:01] Carrie, thank you very much.
[01:14:03] I appreciate you coming on and sharing your
[01:14:05] experience about the Disney TV, Disney Channel,
[01:14:08] whatever it is, Disney TV streaming
[01:14:11] service.
[01:14:12] That's the same way I talked about it before we
[01:14:14] went.
[01:14:15] Oops.
[01:14:16] Nope.
[01:14:17] Oops.
[01:14:18] Hey, we're back baby.
[01:14:21] Just pushing buttons like some weird
[01:14:24] gorilla on a switchboard.
[01:14:26] Yeah.
[01:14:27] I appreciate it.
[01:14:28] Thank you again.
[01:14:29] I did appreciate the way that you were
[01:14:31] like, you know, I kind of just went to
[01:14:33] just ride rides and game the system.
[01:14:35] Yeah.
[01:14:36] I think it's great.
[01:14:37] I think it's a fresh perspective on how to
[01:14:40] do these things, these ticket events.
[01:14:43] It's a different way to look at the ticketed
[01:14:45] event.
[01:14:46] It's not necessarily about what's going on
[01:14:47] in the event, but it's about the act of
[01:14:50] the event distracting everybody else.
[01:14:53] Yeah, basically.
[01:14:54] You know what I mean?
[01:14:55] I think it's great.
[01:14:56] That's awesome.
[01:14:57] Yeah.
[01:14:58] So thank you to you and of course,
[01:14:59] thank you to Amari as well for being
[01:15:01] your partner on that.
[01:15:02] I appreciate that very much.
[01:15:04] Everybody, you guys know what to do.
[01:15:06] I don't go to our website.
[01:15:07] Figure stuff out.
[01:15:09] I don't know until next time.
[01:15:10] We'll see you in the parks.
