UPDATE: Does Disney's Bob Iger Have A Way Out?

We reported recently that Bob Iger, the former Disney CEO who nearly threw in his hat for a presidential run, indicated his interest in joining the Biden administration. The President-elect had not yet reached out to Iger, according to the Bloomberg interview, but there have been rumors and suggestions since then. Iger gave $250,000 on his own to Biden’s election fund, according to public records, and big givers often get something back.

Today, The Hollywood Reporter posted a story that adds a little more fuel to this fire. According to their sources, the Biden administration placed Bob Iger atop the list for an ambassador post in either the U. K. Or China. Neither Iger nor Biden have commented on this leak, but it makes for some great conjecture.

If Iger accepts, he could finally secure a path out of the troubled corporation that keeps reeling him back in. A position in Britain would be a high-profile but simple job where Iger could finally kick back and relax. The China ambassadorship would be an interesting challenge, but perhaps one with which he is already comfortable. Disney’s relations with China have done nothing but improve over the past few years, and he would have some significant leverage with the country.

The same source revealed that Jeffrey Katzenberg of DreamWorks and the already-failed streaming service Quibi is also in the running for this position. If this is true, we are seeing yet another instance where Disney and DreamWorks can duke it out. That classic Hollywood rivalry continues today, but on a much different stage!

This story is far from over. It is also far from solid facts, but hey. Who wants to read another story about vaccines?
