The Walt Disney Family Museum Needs Artists!

Walt Disney had a deep respect for the environment and its protection. His series of nature films called True-Life Adventures defined the genre. Decades later, we can still enjoy glimpses into the world of nature as filmed by Disney’s crew set to compelling storylines. Walt used his skills as a storyteller to spread the message of conservation, noting that our planet’s finite resources needed to be saved for future generations.

Our friends over at the Walt Disney Family Museum present a new effort to engage the community with a virtual art exhibit. Conserving the Magic of Our Planet continues the museum’s tradition of sharing professional and amateur art through a virtual rendering of the Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall. Even though the museum remains closed due to the pandemic, their efforts continue to entertain and educate guests with a wide range of virtual offerings.

If you are an artist, you can get involved! The museum is looking for 2D and 3D artwork as well as short films that fit the theme of conservation. According to the application site, artists can send in a wide variety of works as long as they do not contain Disney intellectual property or any other owned property. Short films must be two minutes in length or shorter. A jury will review submissions for selection into the virtual exhibit. Any art that passes muster will be displayed in a 3D rendered version of the museum’s hall.

This is a very interesting opportunity for artists interested in the natural world. On the flip side, this exhibit is going to be a very fitting tribute from the museum as it will be unveiled for Earth Day. If you would like to submit your own work, check out the submission rules at waltdisney.org/earth-day. Submissions are due by February 26th, 2021 at 11:59 PT. If you’re just in it to see the art, stay tuned to the museum’s site here! The show goes live on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021.
