Order Ahead and Save time? (My Mobile Food Ordering Mishap)
This is my tale of two Disneyland App Mobile Orders. First, I’ll tell you the moral of the story: it's not wise to try new technologies when you're tired, hungry, thirsty, hot, overstimulated, or in a rush. Now try and think of a time you've been at Disneyland where you haven't been in one or more of those states.Disney is really pushing their new app feature- mobile food ordering. When I was at the parks recently, there were cast members handing out little instruction flyers encouraging guests to “Use the Disneyland app to place your order and save time!” Through the Disneyland app, you can select an available restaurant, a pick up time, order, and pay for your food, regardless of where you are. When your order is ready, the app notifies you and you show your phone at the pick up window in exchange for your food. In theory everybody wins with this system- we get to spend more time having fun at the parks and Disney is banking on us spending more money in our bonus free time. Despite the fact that I had that flyer with clearly written instructions, my first go at mobile ordering was kind of a mess. I somehow found myself indecisively adding items to my cart, changing my mind, hitting "back", and getting a payment error message, which resulted in my order being placed twice using two different credit cards. Did I mention I was tired, hungry, thirsty, hot, overstimulated, and in a self-induced rush? Perhaps I should have familiarized myself with the mobile ordering feature by purchasing a simple small ticket item, like a cup of coffee... Fortunately, the cast member at the pick-up window was able to cancel the duplicate order and my credit card was refunded later that night. Meanwhile, my levelheaded husband, Mike, was simultaneously placing an order from a different restaurant using his phone. He had cleverly entered his credit card into the app before we were even at the parks. So when it came time to order, he simply selected a time window, perused items from the comfort of a shady table, customized his items (ex: extra sauce), and his Annual Passholder discount automatically showed up on the check-out page. Mike clicked the magic words, "I'm here, prepare my order" and the app notified him in a matter of minutes that his food was ready. From start to finish it took under five minutes. Despite my rough start, I quickly got the hang of mobile ordering and highly recommend it. I can't stress enough how pleasant it was to order quick service food while sitting down with my family. I skipped the line and felt like I beat the system a little bit. I plan to chase that feeling by mobile ordering whenever possible in the future.
