Disneyland Closes A Twitter Account

The Walt Disney Company today announced the closure of one of it's Twitter accounts, seemingly out of the blue. The popular @DisneylandToday posted the following message just hours ago:

"The Disneyland app is where it’s at! Operational updates for #DowntownDisney are moving to the app. You can now chat with us in the app or check http://Disneyland.com for the latest details before your visit. Follow @Disneyland for official updates on Disneyland Resort news!"

For visitors to the Downtown Disney shopping district in Anaheim, the DisneylandToday account was a great resource for updates, including area hours and parking information. Posts would be accompanied by a photo and, at least before the cutbacks, some clever pun or a Disney quote. It was a cute spot to see in your Twitter feed, and it seems that is all going away.

In it's Tweet, Disney is directing visitors to the Disneyland App, of all things, to get all the content usually seen in their account. To have a following of almost 800k people and then tell them to go someplace else to search out a different version of the content they want is bold, to say the least.

Reactions online have been fairly negative, with many people already missing the fun interactions with a place many cannot go to during this pandemic. Hopefully the app will have the same flavor as the Twitter account did.
